Sometimes it's just easier to chill out, relax, and pass on adulting.
But what if Sunday Funday hangs around till Wednesday?
If you're feeling like you're living in lazy land, check out these hacks to get your life
back on track.
Take off
Perhaps you work late — a lot.
With about four out of 10 Americans saying that they work over 50 hours a week, it's
no wonder everyone's exhausted!
Courtney Hubscher, National Board certified counselor at Ground Work Counseling, says,
"Taking time off is important.
It's easy to get behind if you're feeling exhausted from your week."
If you're feeling guilty about not getting every single thing done, don't stress — decompress!
Make a list
Laziness is an easy habit to fall into.
But finding motivation to get up and do what you need to do is easier said than done.
Hubscher advises starting each day with an intention and specific goal in mind to help
you focus.
And not only a to-do list, but a "done" list, to celebrate those tiny victories.
Dr. Amy Cooper Hakim, principal consultant at The Cooper Strategic Group, recommends
focusing on why you want to get your work done.
For example,
"Do you want to showcase your talents, earn a bonus, or get a raise?
Or, are you more interested in working to pay the bills and get on with the other aspects
of your life?"
How you answer those questions will ultimately help you achieve your goals.
Be accountable
Once you've decided to get moving, your best course of action is to keep yourself accountable.
Dr. Hakim says,
"Make sure to have clear and measurable tasks that you can actually accomplish, like make
5 phone calls, instead of something arbitrary, like find some new customers."
After you've met all these goals, add a few more to your to-do list for the following
day.
Telling your friends and loved ones about your goals can also help hold you accountable.
Manage your time
Jessica May Tang, founder of Damon Wellness Consulting, says if you're feeling like you
never have enough time to do anything, ask yourself,
"Out of everything on my to-do list, what are the top three things that I NEED to do
today to feel successful?"
According to Tang, we often underestimate how much time it takes to complete a task,
so having more than 3 high priority tasks to do in a day is unrealistic.
Get help
Use the people around you to help take some of the pressure off yourself, whether it's
asking your partner to grab the dry cleaning, or ordering in.
Dr. Hakim says,
"Don't be embarrassed to ask for help...Know that you are deserving of the guidance and
direction that any employee receives in a traditional office setting."
You just might be surprised at who's willing to offer a helping hand!
#Goals
When you're feeling lazy, focus on your goals.
Do your goals speak to you?
Are they relatable to you and your life?
If not, you may want to adjust them.
Dr. Hakim says,
"Make sure that your goals are specific, measurable, and attainable.
And make sure that you have the necessary tools and support to meet your goals."
Having a lot to get done can stress you out and make you feel exhausted before you even
start, so cross things off your list, as you go.
And don't forget to treat yourself!
Hakim says it's the little things that make the difference, professionally recommending,
"A manicure or a bubble bath when you meet your goal."
Now that's some motivated me-time we can get behind.
