FIREBEATZ HAS SHOCKING NEWS - TONY JUNIOR EXPLAINS LIFEWORK - THE BEAT #5 - Duration: 15:16.

Jurre, thank you for sparing me!

AAH!

Can you show us your tattoos? - Of course.

[ TITLE SONG ] Oh, you gotta follow,

Follow, follow The Beat!

Hey guys! My name is MOST and welcome back to The Beat!

Every single week we give you an unique insight within the dance industry.

And today is already our fifth episode, so let's get it started!

[ MUSIC BY FIREBEATZ ]

The boys of Firebeatz met at the School of Arts.

They discovered a similar interest in music.

And so by that: Firebeatz was born!

But, let's find out if their friendship is strong enough to stand a shocking interview.

Hi guys! Welcome to a new episode of 'Too much to ask'.

I'm Elise. - I'm Vita.

And we are the Blonde Tigers.

Yes! And in 'Too much to ask' we'll be interviewing DJs,

while they are in very uncomfortable situations.

And today, it's all about DJ duo Firebeatz.

Yes! Let's go!

Ok guys, we're here with DJ duo Firebeatz.

[ MUSIC BY FIREBEATZ ]

Hi guys! - Hi!

[ LAUGHING ]

This is not your regular interview.

Because you are wearing a shock collar.

And you can control it and give him the shocks.

While we are asking the questions.

Sounds good!

[ SHOCK COLLAR BUZZING ]

[ LAUGHING ]

Ok, well, it's working! - It's definitely working.

So, let's start at the beginning.

When did you become DJs?

Together, as Firebeatz, we met each other in 2008.

At the School of Arts,

and we had an assignment to work on a track together.

And from there actually, we went on 'till today.

And did you have like, back in the days, a big inspiration?

Like a DJ you really looked up to?

Yeah! We both have different backgrounds I think.

AAH!

No, for me it was - AAH -,

[ LAUGHING ]

It was DJ Roog with Sneakerz and Housequake.

That stuff, that was for me inspirational.

Erick E, Tiësto, Gregor Salto, Fedde le Grand.

And Carl Cox! - Yeah, of course!

To name one that is not Dutch.

Yeah, he's good!

What are your goals or dreams?

What would you really want to accomplish?

We talked about doing a tour, like a full on stadium tour.

That would be great!

And of course, we have our own label right now.

So like, hosting label nights,

with the producers and DJs that are on the label.

We're going to do it in Miami actually, we're going to host one there.

Nice! - Cool!

So that's going to be pretty cool! - MIAMI!

So that's a check!

And after that, I think yeah,

just working on the label,

and especially building a YouTube brand.

And you also had some pretty cool collabs.

With Calvin Harris for example...

[ CALVIN HARRIS FT. FIREBEATZ - IT WAS YOU ]

Yeah! That was a good one, I woke up just as now,

it was shocking news!

I woke up and we received an email from Calvin Harris,

like, do you want to work on a collab with me?

It was like, shocking, yeah!

[ LAUGHING ]

So, that's going to be payback for him right? - Yeah, yeah, yeah!

AAH!

So, you guys switched now.

Now you have the shock collar,

and you are in control! - Yeah!

Yes! Let's do it! - Let's test it out.

[ SHOCK COLLAR BUZZING ]

Oh, ****.

[ LAUGHING ]

You guys are travelling a lot,

what is the thing you absolutely hate about travelling?

Waiting!

Yeah, just waiting.

So about the travelling.

You guys are playing all around the world.

Do you have like, a crazy, fun story,

about what happened once?

We had a crazy bus tour in Canada once,

and there was this girl, and she was like,

she was crazy, she asked us to sign her butt.

Like with an permanent marker,

We were like, ok, she'll put on a string or something,

but everything went out! - Yeah! That was weird!

And it was the non-eraseable kind.

Blonde Tigers: Permanent marker?!

Guys, the interview was very special!

Jurre, thank you for sparing me.

[ SHOCK COLLAR BUZZING ]

Ah, fuck!

Oh sorry, was it that button?

[ LAUGHING ]

Especially that, that was the most fun part!

Girls, thank you for having us! - Yes thanks!

No, thank you guys!

I'm awake now! - Haha yes, we're awake now!

It was a shocking interview!

You saw one of my friends earlier in Fast Track.

It's the one and only Dante Klein.

And of course, we cannot get enough of him,

so we had Joëlle ask him out on a Talent Date.

Have fun guys!

Hi guys! It's Joëlle again.

I'm about to have a date with the upcoming DJ talent,

and I want to know everything about him!

Hey! Max, nice to meet you!

So, welcome!

Thank you, thank you!

What would you like to drink? - I would like to have a beer!

So tell me, where can people know you from?

I think people can know me from 'Let me hold you'.

The track I did together with Cheat Codes.

[ CHEAT CODES FT. DANTE KLEIN - LET ME HOLD YOU ]

It already has over 300 million plays on Spotify, it was my first hit.

The only musical guy in the family, that's me.

So your parents arent playing...

My parents, no. They don't play any instruments or.. They just have normal, boring office jobs.

Do they like your music? - They love it!

Is there a favourite venue or club you like to play?

Uhm... I don't play that often in Amsterdam,

or in Holland.

I loved Tomorrowland!

I played at Tomorrowland three times already. - I can imagine!

Where can we wake you up for at night?

You can always wake me up for food! - What kind of food?

Everything, but especially Thai food!

That's why I tattood a knife and a fork on my arm.

Tell me about your tattoos, do they have a story?

Most of them do!

My sister has the same one.

It means you have to take risks in life and do what you want to do.

I got this one last week,

it's a wing, stands for freedom.

I always had freedom from my parents when I told them I want to make music.

When I dropped out of school, they were like: well, ok.

What is like your biggest dream, what do you want to accomplish?

For now my biggest dream is to make an album.

I really want to work with big, recording artists in America.

And make an album with all kinds of music,

and all kinds of styles.

That I wrote together with them and produced.

Who do you want to write with?

Coldplay! Justin Bieber of course!

I think everybody wants Justin Bieber for some reason!

Because you know you have a hit record then!

Within two days!

We want to know your last WhatsApp!

Don't lie! - I'm not gonna lie!

Max can you transfer some money? - Haha what?!

It's a question from a friend, he payed for pizzas.

And he's like, can you give me ten euros?

So I was like, ok cool, done!

Ok!

You're lucky! - Yeah, I'm so lucky.

So I think I know enough, let's go to the venue and make some music!

Perfect! I'm super excited!

[ DANTE KLEIN FT. THE 87'S & BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY - COKE & HENNESSY ]

I'm proud to announce my new friend, give it up for Dante Klein!

[ DANTE KLEIN FT. THE 87'S & BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY - COKE & HENNESSY ]

I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Yeah, of course I loved it! Good beer, party people, it was good!

Great! I hope to see you soon! - You too!

Trance fans are some of the most loyal fans out there!

They have so much love for their music.

And I'm pretty sure one of our hosts is at a giant festival right now.

Ira please, tell us, where are you?

Hi guys, my name is Ira and today we're in Prague,

in the beautiful capital of the Chezch Republic.

[ MUSIC ]

We're here to show you one of Europe's biggest trance music events.

Which is being held in the enormous O2 Arena!

This festival provides a spectacular audiovisual dance experience,

that every trance lover should visit.

So fasten your seatbelt,

you're about to experience it right here,

right now,

this is Transmission 2017!

[ MUSIC ]

The best experience of life.

It's the night that I look forward to the whole year, you know?

And after it finishes, I'm watching Facebook when the next tickets come online.

It's a feeling inside me, from the middle of my heart.

This was Transmission 2017!

And what a spectacular festival it was!

If you're into trance music and love a unique festival experience,

with lots of CO2, fire, lasers and everything around it,

Transmission is the place to be!

So make sure not to miss any of this next year,

thanks for watching guys, and we'll see you soon!

From Rock to House, this guy has covered it all.

I'm talking about the one and only Tony Junior.

So Joëlle went down to his studio to see him,

and together they took a trip down memory lane.

Hi guys, I'm Joëlle, and I'm about to meet a guy with a very energetic personality.

When he performs he's a real entertainer,

and shows this on stage.

[ TONY JUNIOR PLAYING ]

Today I'm going to visit him in his own studio,

I'm gonna ask him all about his personal life and his youth.

And I brought some surprises as well!

This is back in time, with Tony Junior!

I brought a basket full of memories. - Oh oh!

The first one, little Tony.

Oh, oh!

What do you see when you look into this little boys eyes?

That I was super unhappy, but you cannot see this.

Because the picture is bigger,

one or two days before, my thumb was infected.

I was like a wild kid. - I can imagine that you were a wild kid.

Haha yeah, I really was!

And I had this splinter, piece of wood under my nail.

Mom and dad had a photoshoot and they were like, I want some pictures of my son as well.

So next one,

Who is this? - Ah yeah, this is super important.

This is my grandpa,

he's the man that made my dad and me get into music.

We had some family issues,

and I wasn't able to see him that much.

I won this big band competition in Utrecht,

and I remember him coming into my room and he said:

'Little guy, you did great!'.

I was able to show him before he passed away,

that I was doing good.

How important is drumming for you? Your dad was a famous drummer.

I gained so much experience by touring with my band,

I have so much knowledge because of that.

It will always be the basics of my career.

Can you show me something?

Like, play the drums or? - Yeah!

Yeah, of course, I'm a little rusty maybe. But let's do it!

Hey!

I started playing music when I was like three years old.

My father was a drummer, my mom was a model but she was always like, singing,

more for fun,

and when I was 21, I made the transision from being a drummer to a DJ.

Bacause my band split up.

I fell in love with house music.

That time it was with, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano,

Leroy Styles, and I was like, that's what I want to do.

And tell us about your first track 'Loesje'.

[ TONY JUNIOR FT. NICOLAS NOX - LOESJE ]

My dad, he came to me and was like,

'Dude, you should make a remix of this song!'

And I was like.. dude?

My granddad played the harmonic,

and my dad played Loesje when he was younger,

because of that I was like, ok, I'll make a remix.

I finished it in two days, gave it to my dad as like a funny joke,

and two weeks later it was signed to a label, Spinning Records.

The radio picked it up..

Now, your back tattoo.

Yeah!

O M G, that must be painful as hell!

I'm not gonna lie,

it's painful as fuck!

How long did it take? - 7 hours straight of tattooing.

This is an old picture, it's me as a baby,

and this is mom and dad.

I had a pretty rough youth with my mom and dad,

this picture resembles the moment that everything was still good.

Like, we were a little happy family.

Can you show us your tattoo? - Oh yeah, of course!

Wow, god!

Yeah..

Yeah, it's real...

Thank you so much for this look in your personal life!

No problem! You had some good pictures with you!

It was fun to talk about!

Alright guys, that was it.

Another episode of The Beat and now it's time for a real party!

But first, head on over to our socials,

don't forget to follow, but most importantly,

ALEM'S WEST SIDE (SKYPE VERSION) [BONUS] - Duration: 5:42.

Hi all and welcome to this new video on the channel A Cappelover

And no, no usual intro today because as you've seen in the title

It's a bonus video which is finally the sequel of Alem's interview

Today I have a present for you, but in the aim for you understand the impact of this gift

I have to tell you something first

In fact I'm recording this video with total improvisation, there is no script [For those who are in a hurry, skip to 3:43 ! :) ]

'Cause it's really a video to thank you first for the welcome of the video about Alem [For those who are in a hurry, skip to 3:43 ! :) ]

It had clearly and by far more views that I usually do

But well, when you see the guest I knew it a bit, I'm not gonna lie

In fact at the end of the interview with Alem we make a silence to cut, in my side I stop my mic

And here Alem, him he continues to record and he says

Yeees ! Excellent ! Do you want me to do a little freestyle to finish ?

So you will not have my direct answer, but I was standing there, obviously

Surprised and honored, like a kid, so finally I say yes, of course !

So we talk about things and stuff and he says :

"Here we go, I'll start by a little West Side it will be nice, alright hum hum"

Well, among the things we keep in our minds of Alem 's beatbox stuff, there is West Side

It's like one of his key covers in a way

He had the occasion to do it several times and even at key moments I'd day

I give you few examples here

And yes indeed, the first excerpt I gave you, it's the finals of french beatbox championship 2013

The finales he won, so obviously it's classy

And yeah we can say in a way that he won thanks to West Side which was pretty insane at that time

And what we observe, if we listen carefully and entirely of course [By the way the video with numbers : - 80h of work - 143 differents videos used - A transcription of 10409 words - A translation of 8970 words - 400 views the first 24h - An infinite gratitude]

It's that there are always little modifications, small details here and there [By the way the video with numbers : - 80h of work - 143 differents videos used - A transcription of 10409 words - A translation of 8970 words - 400 views the first 24h - An infinite gratitude]

So each time he does West Side it's always a bit different [By the way the video with numbers : - 80h of work - 143 differents videos used - A transcription of 10409 words - A translation of 8970 words - 400 views the first 24h - An infinite gratitude]

So here it's exclusive I had the right of Alem's West Side Skyper Version

So yeah I've found the name well, it's.. it's my thing

But at least I decided to share it to you, as the kind person I am

Grateful for all your comments on the video or elsewhere

It's, well we can consider it like that, it's my Christmas gift

So, I will no longer talk now that you know what West Side represents for Alem

And his beatbox carreer, I wish you a good listening and mostly a merry christmas

ASL SIGNS : CHRISTMAS - Duration: 7:05.

Happy Holidays!

I can't believe that Christmas is coming around the corner.

Like...wow!

It's about time!

This video, of course, it's going to be an ASL video.

I want to show you some Christmas signs.

And, maybe, you might want to use it.

Right off the bat, I'm going to start with MERRY CHRISTMAS.

You go like this, which means HAPPY.

MERRY

CHRISTMAS

Go like this—

and you go like, a C.

Turn it around.

CHRISTMAS

MERRY. CHRISTMAS.

Or, HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

You go like that—

That means HOLIDAY. Or HOLIDAYS.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Me? I am super pumped that I am going to have 11 days, including the weekends, off on WINTER BREAK.

WINTER

You make a W.

And go like that. WINTER.

And then BREAK.

It's like, scrunch up your fingers.

I mean your index finger.

And then you go like that—

BREAK

SANTA CLAUS

Pretend, like, you're making a beard.

Pretend that you're making an imaginary beard.

SANTA CLAUS

Yep.

And, he gives out PRESENTS.

You go like this, like you're giving it to someone.

But not really.

Like, you're giving presents to someone.

So, PRESENTS.

SANTA CLAUS usually says, "HO, HO, HO"!

ELVES

You go like that.

You make, like, a pointy ears.

'Cause they have pointy ears. So ELVES.

Go like that. WHOOP!

You go like this—

and then, like that.

BELLS

Just one hand has to go like this—

BELLS

CANDY CANE

Like, make a candy cane.

So CANDY is like this—

Easy.

CANE

Well, this next one is somebody's name.

Guess who has a red nose?

RUDOLPH, of course.

You make an R, and you go like this, onto your nose.

Like you're poking it.

So, RUDOLPH the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

This is the sign for REINDEER.

Make an R, but you also need your thumbs.

So it goes like this, REINDEER.

Not all the reindeer have a sign name though.

I don't know why.

CHRISTMAS TREE

Like, pretend this is a TREE.

And have your hand go out like that, 'cause, it represents sticks.

So, yeah TREE.

CHRISTMAS TREE

SNOW

You go like that—

You move your fingers as you go down.

SNOW

Or it could be SNOWY.

CANDLES

This one is easy.

Have your index finger onto your wrist, like you're checking for your pulse, but not that.

Goes like that.

And then, your other hand goes like this—

Waving.

That means CANDLES.

FIRE PLACE

This one, you go like that, FIRE.

Pretend you're making fire.

And then you do a P.

And then you go like this—

make a circle going back to you.

PLACE

I think I'm explaining that right!

FIRE PLACE

COOKIES

You go like that—

Move your hand around a little bit.

This one doesn't have to do anything. Just pretend it's a plate.

So, COOKIES.

And then, MILK.

You go like that—

COLD

I hope I don't get frost bite. Nuh, uh, uh, uh!

COLD weather.

Like, pretend you're shivering.

That's how cold it is.

SNOWMAN

The same as the sign is before, SNOW...MAN.

You go like this—

And then, go down there. MAN.

MAN

MAN

SNOW MAN

GOOD

BAD

GOOD. You go like this, onto your chin. GOOD.

BAD. This one, you go like that. BAD.

I don't know how to explain that one either.

So, BAD.

GODD. BAD.

NEW YEAR

You go like this, NEW

NEW

You're letting this hand move against your other hand.

So NEW...YEAR.

You go like this, with an S.

Have one down here, and then go like, YEAR.

Like a circle.

Pretend you're making like, a quotations.

So you go like this—SLED.

Like it's an actual sled.

SLED

That was all the signs I had to show you today,

for the Christmas one.

And, I hope you liked this video.

Give it a big thumbs up, and subscribe.

I really, honestly, can't wait for Christmas!

Like, I am SO happy that it's Christmas time!

We "Recreated" Alissa Ashley's Holiday Makeup - Duration: 8:42.

- Hey, Naturally Curly World.

I'm Nikki.

- And I'm Evelyn.

- And today, since we're beauty gurus,

we are gonna be recreating a holiday look for you guys

that was created by Alissa Ashley.

- I don't know too much about Alissa Ashley.

- Are you a real beauty guru or just a fake one?

- I'm more underground, as evidenced by my new wig.

New video, new wig.

- [Nikki] She made this holiday look like a year ago.

So, we're right on time.

So, we're excited to try it out

and hopefully. - Hopefully it's good.

I mean, y'all gassed us up in the comments of the last one.

Y'all were like, 'Don't talk bad about y'all selves,

y'all did really well.'

So, we back.

First step, obviously, for me is to put my hair up.

- Okay, yes please.

Oh, what do you use to moisturize 'cause this is...

- Well, we published a video

that's The Best Ever Hair Moisturizers recently,

so you can check that out to see what I use to moisturize

my hair. - Oh, I don't need to know.

That's okay.

- It's hard being like a 4a, like a 3c, 4a.

(laughing) - Oh my god.

- Let's start with the tutorial.

She's putting concealer on her eyes.

- Okay. - Or primer.

- I'm using the Too Faced Shadow Insurance

24 Hour Anti-crease Eyeshadow Primer.

- And I'm gonna use

Fenty sticks, the sticks,

in suede.

She has a deep olive.

- Okay.

We have the Smashbox Cover Shot Smoky Eye Pallette.

The color I'm gonna use is Rock Me.

- And I have Make Up For Ever

and the color I'm using is this dark green olive

because I don't know the color names.

Hopefully, you know,

we can inspire you to give things a try.

You know what I'm saying?

You don't have to know what you're doing

to give it a try

because we don't.

- Oh, mine is much darker.

Why - Mine's much darker.

- She started off very dark, how did it get...

- That's the wrong color, baby.

- God!

- I'm just gonna mix them at this point.

- Yup. Oh, look at.

Look, look. - Oh, now she goes darker?

- Okay, I'm also using the Make Up for Ever eyeshadow

in highlighter yellow.

Put it in that crease thingy

to make it not so harsh.

How does she get that precision?

- Is it 'cause she's closer to her camera?

This is...

- I think...

- None of this is right.

We have an Anastasia Beverly Hills Tiger's Eye.

- Okay.

- It's kind of like a goldish yellowy greenish thing.

This is real nice.

- I don't know what I'm doing.

Let's move on.

So, I have this Urban Decay Liquid Moon Dust Eyeshadow

and it's in the color Zodiac.

She used Mac pigment.

- In emerald green. - Emerald green.

Well, we don't have that.

- We don't have...

I'm using the NYX glitter in oh five.

It is not a green glitter, it's a gold glitter.

- But you gotta improvise, you know what I'm saying?

I feel like that's... - You don't have, you just do.

- I feel like I need more vibrancy.

(slurping)

Lashes?

How gentle do I have to be?

- Mucho.

- I see some of y'all walking around Target with these on.

I'm just like

- [Both] where we you going?

- Lashes. - Lashes are on.

- Lases are on, shout out to Grace.

- When he put her lashes on did she put on liner?

- Oh no, baby.

I gotta put on liner, what?

- Liner's gotta happen.

- No, that's mascara. - She put on mascara.

- Nope, she didn't put on no eyeliner.

She is reckless. - Alright, well we gon'

have to go ahead and say no to that.

Avon True Color Glimmer Sticks

and it is in black and green vert.

- This one is...

(laughs)

- Black.

It's black.

I think that that makes he happy.

- Okay, now she puts on foundation and ting.

- Her face looks like she has foundation on it.

That's why I was like, 'Oh, did she start with foundation?'

You're like, 'No, that's her face.'

- That is her God-given face. - Geeze.

I'm gonna use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.

- We have the exact same primer in different forms.

I'm almost done, ha ha.

- Conceal and bake.

- Mm, yeah.

- Alright, I've done the best I can do with that.

Oh, I think she bakes it. - Oh, she bakes.

Got my NYX Studio Photogenic.

- Oh, photogenic?

I have Bare Minerals...

Oh, it's a foundation.

I had a foundation this whole time

- That's what I told you.

- In medium beige, but it's not my color.

So, it's like much brighter than my actual color.

What I tell you?

I bet you thought I was gonna be medium beige,

but your girl probably a nice tawny.

You know what I'm sayin'? (laughs)

We ain't goin' nowhere after work.

- Nowhere. (sighs)

What next?

- No.

I'm not doing this. - What is that?

Oh, she set her whole face?

I don't have that product.

- I'm not setting my whole face.

- Whatever that is, I don't have it.

- Not trying it, it's an Anastasia product

and we're not doing it, skip.

- Oh, now she puts the green on the lower.

- Oh, ooh, that's a pretty green.

Yes. - Its the same green

that we did not have.

So, keep that in mind. - Oh, dang, okay.

Well, I'm not mad at this.

I look like the Grouch, you know?

And that fits my personality perfectly.

- She doesn't have lower eyelids.

I have a whole lid. - (laughs) No.

That's not a lid. - Underneath.

So, what I'm doing is I'm balancing...

Bouncing between the yellow crayon and the green shadow.

And what that does

is it creates an effect.

(laughter)

- It's not Alissa Ashley. - It's not.

- It's Nikki Chanel and that's what it's gone be.

- Why is there gunk underneath my eye?

What is that?

- And we're both using

the Shea Moisture Ultra Curl and Define Mascara.

- Yup.

This is not an everyday makeup look,

but we're not everyday girls.

- Wow, it does not look like her at all.

- At all.

(inhales) She looks great.

- Oh, she does look great.

- So, you got your contour.

- I may have done too much on the nose contour.

- Oh. (laughs)

Light skin friend look like Michael Jackson.

- Did too much on the nose contour.

- Snatched.

Okay, she went in with a berry blush.

- You know, I make fun of Evelyn,

but I feel like I'm gonna be Evelyn today

and rock an eyeshadow as blush.

- I never know when to stop putting on blush,

so I just keep going.

- That too much?

Do I look like a elf?

(laughing)

- Oh, I love this berry, y'all.

- Y'all.

- Anybody watching who's like dark-skinted,

- You gotta be dark-skinned,

this berry look real dumb on me.

(laughing)

I look like - You look like you in the

you know the girls in the marching band

that twirl. - The Dancing Dolls.

- After the blush, what she do?

Okay, now she's putting on highlight.

So, I'm using the Fenty Beauty Kilowatt in Hustla Baby.

- Hustla baby.

Just want you to know

(singing) it ain't where I been

but where I'm bout to go - Where do I put this again?

- Okay, went a little to heavy on the highlighter.

- Look at her highlight.

Did you?

'Cause look at hers.

- Oh, her highlight is pearlescent, y'all.

It is glowing.

- You know what, let's do it.

Lips.

Home stretch. - Yup.

We've done our eyes,

whole eyeballs,

our face contour, highlight, blush, concealer,

(groans)

everything.

- Yeah, I'm gonna use this Tarte.

See how it's kinda purply? - Oh, yeah.

Yeah, so imma use this Tarte.

I don't know the color.

- I have a Sephora lip color, it's the number 14.

- So, I'm gonna use the Urban Decay

- Oh, Vice. - Vice Liquid Lipstick

in Purgatory because it has a little bit of glitter to it.

- I'm gonna take the Stila - Oh, yeah!

(laughing)

That's your finished look.

- My look looks costume-y.

And her look looks like

she's going to meet her boyfriend's family

at Christmas dinner.

- Speak for yourself.

(laughs)

- This is a lot. - Yeah.

(laughs)

In terms of matching her...

- Zero outta zero - That's a zero, like.

- She does have very beautiful hazel eyes or whatever.

- Yeah.

- You know, we didn't have a budget for contacts.

- Contacts weren't in the budget.

5 Days Of Cold Showers | Try Living With Lucie | Refinery29 - Duration: 8:13.

Im Lucie Fink and this week is 5 Days of Cold Showers.

Hey guys. What's up?

If you are new to our You Tube channel, please subscribe here.

And if you are a returning viewer then welcome back to Try Living With Lucie.

Im Lucie.

Hi.

Before I start comment below and let me know

what other five day challenges you want to

see me try on this channel.

In fact this episode idea came from multiple comments that I try five days of cold showers

and decided that I'd take the plunge until it was

one of the coldest months of the year.

Go Big or go home.

So here we are. And now it's time.

If you google "Potential benefits of cold showers,"

you'll see that the internet makes some pretty bold claims.

Really?

So let's get into it.

Today on Day One, I woke up, I turned on my shower and I just jumped right in.

I didn't give myself too much time today to plan or figure out the proper way to do this.

I just kind of got in there and screamed.

Oh No!

Ahh!

I'm rarely in those situations that I'm just so physically uncomfortable that I'm finding it hard to remember

to breathe.

That's exactly what happened in the cold shower.

When you are facing that stream of water and it's coming down on you landing on your legs,

you just constantly push your butt back to avoid getting the water on your shoulders,

and on your chest, and your stomach

because those are the most sensitive areas.

But I made sure to scoop up the water and to throw it on

all of those areas so that I got the cold water everywhere.

But the moment I turned the water off, I felt like an internal heater came on and I'm not

sure if that's because the air was warmer than the water was,

but either way, my hands and feet were still really cold when I got out and I essentially stepped

out of the shower and I wrapped the towel around me and I just shivered into a pile on

the floor.

I will say though, the shower woke me up.

I was definitely alert in the morning after that one.

Yeah, way more alert.

Day Two.

I came across an article on Refinery29 about Miranda Kerr and her everyday routine.

What do you know? Girl takes cold showers.

She wakes up at 6 a.m., she puts a tablespoon of coconut oil in her mouth for 20 minutes,

and while she's swishing it around, she rubs coconut oil all over her body and then hops into a

cold shower.

I tried oil pulling before during 5 Days Of Coconut Oil

and I didn't love the texture of the solid coconut oil in my mouth.

But I spooned a tablespoon of coconut oil into my mouth, then I rubbed the oil all over

my body.

Once I was all lathered up, I turned on the cold shower and I stepped in.

Because I was swishing the coconut oil in my mouth,

I could only breath through my nose, so I actually had to remember to breath more frequently

if I wanted to get oxygen to my brain.

When I got out, I spit the oil into my garbage can and this is very important because if you spit

the oil anywhere else it can clog up your drains.

And that was that.

I spent the same exact amount of time in the shower today as I did yesterday but

because today I was focused on swishing the oil and massaging it into my skin, it really

helped the time pass faster.

It felt more like a morning ritual than a torturous shower experience, so that was good.

I think that a lot of people that try this cold shower experiment are doing it to see

if it gives them better hair.

R29's senior sex and relationships writer, Maria Del Russo, did an experiment for us on site

where she rinsed her hair with cold water for 30 days to see what type of effects

it had on her.

So before I tried washing my hair today, I asked here to send me some of her thoughts.

She explained to me what her hair looks like microscopically and how cold water can supposedly

have an effect on that.

Hey Lucie, it's Maria.

A lot of people think that their hair is a solid tube and it's not. It's actually made

up of these tiny microscopic layers that lay on top of each other.

If hair is healthy, the shingles

lay flat and they reflect light really well which is why healthy hair looks super shiny.

Cold water is supposed to make it so that the cuticle lays completely flat.

Number one thing that people complain about when they are washing their hair with cold

water is that it doesn't feel as clean and kind of more difficult to work up a lather.

I promise you that your hair is getting clean, but dont pile on extra product.

When you are finished, dont use as much hair product as you usually would in your hair.

Good luck and try not to shiver too much in the shower.

So with Maria's advice in the back of my head,

I just got in there.

And oh man!

Ahh!

This experience was actually pretty hilarious.

Whoa!

Eee!

Ah!

Okay!

My back is cold!

I followed Maria's advice and used less shampoo that I normally would.

Then I lathered it up really quickly and just sort of screamed and huffed and puffed

and scrubbed until the entire thing was over.

When I got out of the shower, I took her advice again and I didn't use any product in it.

I just brushed it, put it into a braid, and I left for my shoot.

Now I'm on my way to my shoot for the day.

I'm letting my hair dry naturally in a braid

and I'm going to hope,

crossing my fingers, that it's looking nice and shiny.

Now I'm back home and we can see how my hair dried.

It does feel pretty good.

I guess it looks slightly shiny.

But I'm not sure how noticeable this shine would be as compared to how my hair looks

everyday after a warm shower.

What do you think?

Do you notice anything different?

Huh?

So this morning I turned my cold shower experience into a bit of a spa morning.

I came into the bathroom wrapped into a warm, huge, fluffy blanket.

I started by using a dry brush, which as I read in another Refinery29 article, has a ton

of benefits.

It speeds up the transport of oxygen to the body's cells and tissues which stimulates

your lymphatic system.

It exfoliates your skin, eliminating clogged pores and ingrown hairs.

I followed it up by putting almond oil onto my skin.

Finally when I was all warm and brushed and oiled up,

I got into the shower.

This time I followed specific directions for what you're actually supposed to do in a cold shower.

I spent the entire time under the water

vigorously massaging myself.

This definitely helped me stay warmer because I was active the entire time and I was keeping

the blood flowing and circulating.

I even followed directions of an article that told me I'm supposed to take short breaks in

the middle of the cold shower where I turn the water off but I kept massaging my skin.

When I got out, I felt that warm sensation again that I had previously felt when getting

out of the cold shower.

And I was very curious about it

so I decided to look it up.

There is an ancient Indian term for this:

There is a whole science and grace to it, but essentially, it's hydro therapy.

When the cold water hits your skin, the blood comes rushing to the surface in self-defense which

leaves you feeling warmer on the spot.

I was in and out of the bathroom in just 15 minutes this morning, but I somehow felt like

I had a full on spa awakening experience.

Ah!

It was amazing.

Day 5: my last cold shower of the week.

I'm starting to notice how efficient I've been over the past few mornings.

Put some more oil on, did a quick soap and water rinse in my cold shower, got out very

quickly. I noticed that I even had extra time.

Time to brew a pot of coffee, make myself something to eat, and even to sit down and

make a mood board to help me plan for the next episode of "Try Living With Lucie."

I'm not going to tell you what it is,

but based on some of the mood board items…

got any guesses?

So while I can't tell you if the cold showers really did improve my skin or my hair or make

me more fertile,

I can tell you that adding a ritualistic aspect to my morning did make me feel more efficient

and the cold water definitely energized me and woke me up.

Comment below letting me know if you love or hate taking cold showers and as always,

let me know what you want to see me try next time

for five days at a time.

What The Walking Dead Cast Looks Like In Real Life - Duration: 11:08.

Making it through the zombie apocalypse means putting your survival instincts to the test—and

putting your weekly manicure on hold until things blow over.

But while these survivors on The Walking Dead look like they haven't seen a hot shower in

a while, the actors playing them are doing just fine in the personal hygiene department.

"I hope you don't mind me saying this, but you smell very very good."

"Oh thank you!"

"… do you shampoo?"

"I do, I do!"

Stick with us while we check out what the cast of AMC's The Walking Dead looks like

in real life.

And in case you were wondering, there are some minor undead spoilers for Walking Dead seasons 1-6 ahead.

Andrew Lincoln

As the first character introduced in the series premiere of The Walking Dead in 2010, Rick

Grimes started his undead odyssey as your typical clean-cut Sheriff's Deputy.

But being constantly brutalized and watching your friends and loved ones succumb to the

horrors of the apocalypse can change a man—and Rick's difficulty coming to grips with the

world's encroaching chaos is physically embodied by his hair and beard, which grew increasingly

more disheveled before reaching its magnificent peak in Season 5.

Fortunately, the dashing Andrew Lincoln has little in common with his tormented character

beyond his rugged good looks.

Where Rick is a hard-boiled guardian, Lincoln is a fun-loving guy who likes to play pranks

on his castmates — and who keeps his facial forest well under control.

Norman Reedus

Daryl Dixon is more comfortable on a hog than in an armored car, and his appearance parallels

his no-nonsense approach to survival.

With scraggly locks and that trademark squint, Daryl's look is a post-apocalyptic take on

biker chic… except when he's wearing this fabulous poncho.

In real life, Reedus is pretty much indistinguishable from his character… albeit with slightly

less dirt and blood caked on his clothing.

It doesn't take much effort to transform Reedus—who, like Daryl, really takes his motorcycles seriously—into

his fictional, walker-whacking counterpart.

But in real life, Reedus is a sweetheart who loves to surprise his castmates with kisses.

Lots of kisses.

Chandler Riggs

This young actor has undergone major changes since Season 1—both as a result of the nightmare

unfolding around him, but also as a result of puberty, which is a whole different kind

of nightmare.

Riggs was first cast as Carl at the tender age of 10, and seven years later, he's got

some battle scars — like the gaping hole where his eyeball used to be.

"Have you seen it?

Have you looked in the mirror? That is gross as hell!"

But take away the bandage (or the gruesome prosthetic), knock off the cowboy hat, and

here's what Chandler looks like in real life — complete with that signature shag haircut,

which he's contractually obligated to keep.

Danai Gurira

This sword-wielding warrior took the screen by storm in season 3 — and forget what we

said about putting fashion on hold in the apocalypse, because Michonne kicks walker

ass in style, slicing and dicing in distressed skinny jeans and her signature sleeveless

leather vest.

Gurira really brings her character to life—so it came as a minor shock to super fans everywhere

when they realized that the actress has always worn her hair short, even shaving it for her

role in Marvel's Black Panther film.

That's right—those locs are a wig, and while they're not the most comfortable thing to

wear while filming in the Georgia heat, Gurira says they have their perks.

"It's one of the most user-friendly styles a black girl can have during the apocalypse."

Steven Yeun

Glenn may be best remembered for the skull crack heard around the world, but he was also

the group's moral compass.

His practical, no-frills style was an echo of his attitude — but in real life, actor

Steven Yeun is a much more dapper dresser, and much less likely to show up covered in

zombie guts.

At his most casual, though, he still has a lot in common with his character, right down

to the baseball cap.

Melissa McBride

Thanks to her friendship with early Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont, this casting

director-turned-actress was a shoo-in for the role of Carol.

A fan favorite for her cunning and loyalty to the team, Carol's short, silver hair has

become an emblem of her journey from an abused wife to an ice-cold killer.

When it's time to transform McBride into a camera-ready survivor, it's just a question

of mussing up her hair, popping a rifle in her hands, and smearing a little dirt on her

face.

The rest is pure acting talent.

Lauren Cohan

From farmer's daughter to tough-as-nails widow, Cohan's character Maggie has transformed since

her season two debut into a savvy leader of the Hilltop's militia — and traded in her

farm-friendly look for baseball caps, hunting jackets, and handgun holsters.

But in real life, Lauren Cohan is all glitz and glamour—at least compared to her kneecap-busting

counterpart.

Cohan, who modeled for Richard Branson's failed apparel company Virgin Clothing before hitting

it big in Hollywood, regularly opts for designer clothing and elegant makeup rather than the

apocalyptic rags in Maggie's wardrobe.

Hey—nobody wants to take their work home with them, right?

Lennie James

Between his mental breakdown, his fling with pacifism, and his chaotic collapse back into

homicide after Richard's betrayal of the Kingdom, Morgan is a ticking time bomb in makeshift

armor.

But actor Lennie James, on the other hand, is one dapper son of a gun.

After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the English — yes, English!

— actor had a long career on screen before finding his way to The Walking Dead, although

there's at least one coveted role he still hasn't gotten to play.

"I would like to have been Batman."

Meanwhile, like the caped crusader, Morgan's looking a little wild around the eyes these

days — but James is out and about rocking a pair of dark frames and a single earring.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Whether you hate to love him or love to hate him, this man changed the game as the zombie

apocalypse's Louisville-slugger-swinging sociopath — and we'll be darned if he doesn't look

awfully stylish, even in that dastardly debut that had fans sobbing into their barf bags.

In his role as Negan, Morgan rocks a leather jacket that suggests a pre-apocalypse penchant

for punk rock and a red scarf that has inspired countless articles speculating about its meaning.

In real life, Jeffrey Dean Morgan doesn't share the same sensibilities as his character—

and with good reason, since he's confessed that he finds the role itself extremely emotionally

taxing.

That might be why he grows out his whiskers during The Walking Dead's off season, the

better to distance himself from the villainous, clean-shaven Negan.

Josh McDermitt

As the zombie drama's most knowledgeable survivor, Eugene can make poison and craft bullets—

and betray his friends to become Negan's right-hand man.

Happily, the actor who plays him is the total opposite of his TV counterpart.

Let's do this one rapid-fire: Actor Josh McDermitt's natural hair color is blond, that's not his

real voice, and the mullet he sported when he first arrived on the show was a wig—

"I have this other acting job called my personal life that I not wanna have the mullet on."

— although recent photos suggest that he's starting to embrace Eugene's hairdo as a way

of life, if not his penchant for cargo vests.

But most importantly, Josh McDermitt is nothing like the cowardly Eugene, which means that

if you see him on the street you should be nice and not yell at him.

Khary Payton

As the show's scenery-chewing community-theatre-actor-turned King, Payton has undergone a dramatic makeover

himself to play Ezekiel one of the series' most polarizing characters.

The King sports a mane of gray dreadlocks and regal garments fit for an Elder Scrolls

emperor— a look that's totally in contrast with Payton's stripped-down, casual aesthetic.

In real life, this actor keeps things simple—with a shaved head and the best beard this side

of Game of Thrones.

Christian Serratos

It's hard to believe that Christian Serratos shared a cafeteria with the Twilight vampires

before stealing our hearts as the feisty Rosita Espinosa when she joined the cast in season

4.

After the decimation of two of her besties at the hands of Negan, Rosita quickly became

an outspoken proponent of slaughtering the Saviors— and swapped out her trendy traveling

outfit and youthful pigtails for a more practical look.

Meanwhile, off-camera, Serratos is right at home on the red carpet and usually wears designer

duds that would be totally impractical in a zombie apocalypse.

Michael Cudlitz

Let's face it: Abraham's got a face only a mother could love.

Well, and Rosita.

And Sasha.

And his late wife Ellen…

OK, so the big lug actually gets a lot of love.

But between the signature scowl, the iconic mustache, and the orange box cut, Abraham's

lucky he's got charm — and a gift for self-expression.

"Maybe I'll let you shave me down all over - dolphin smooth."

In real life, fans of Abe will be shocked to learn that actor Michael Cudlitz is actually

a natural blond— and he's nowhere near as averse to sleeves as The Walking Dead costume

department would have you believe.

Austin Amelio

After a botched attempt at stealing medical supplies, Amelio's character Dwight had a

close encounter with a burning-hot iron— which is Negan's preferred punishment for

disloyal Saviors, when he doesn't just straight-up beat them to death.

Fortunately, that melted face is purely prosthetic.

In real life, Austin Amelio lacks both the disfiguring injury and the haunted look of

his Walking Dead character.

And when he's not cleaning up to walk the red carpet, his preferred style is skater

chic, in keeping with his first career as a semi-professional skateboarder.

Sonequa Martin Green

Before being cast on Star Trek: Discovery, this actress spent five seasons playing Sasha

— the Walking Dead character who just couldn't catch a break.

First, she lost her brother Tyreese; then her boyfriend Bob met a bad end; and, finally,

her romance with Abraham was cut short before it could even begin.

At the end of Season Six, Sasha sacrificed her life to help turn the tables on the Scavengers

and the Saviors… and to boldly go where no man had gone before, of course.

In real life, Martin-Green is just as devoted to her family as Sasha, particularly the son

she gave birth to shortly after the show's fifth season.

But don't be fooled by her laid-back apocalypse style and permanent ponytail; off set, this

actress is all about experimental glamour and gravity-defying hairstyles.

David Morrissey

This actor's performance as Philip Blake—better known as the Governor—reminded audiences

that zombies weren't the only thing to be afraid of during the end days.

With a clean-cut appearance that masked some seriously twisted sensibilities, the Governor

was a sinister figure even before he put on the iconic eyepatch that marked him as a true

villain.

But while David Morrissey is just as handsome as his Walking Dead character in real life,

the similarities end there.

For one thing, he's a much snappier dresser.

But more importantly, the British actor is such a warm, friendly fellow that his co-stars

considered it a privilege to be hunted by him.

"That was the funnest scene, I think, when he was trying to kill me"

Seth Gilliam

For all of his errors in judgement, Gilliam's Father Gabriel has since turned out to be

a loyal, solid moral force within Rick's band of survivors — not to mention the only person

capable of frightening Negan just by showing up.

"Hoooly crap!

You are creepy as s---!"

Needless to say, Seth Gilliam doesn't wear a clerical collar in real life — but he's

no stranger to playing characters who share Gabriel's complexity.

You might have seen him on The Wire as Sergeant Ellis Carver, who epitomized the potential

for positive change both as a human being and as an officer of the law.

Pollyanna McIntosh

Season seven of The Walking Dead saw the introduction of a new group to the mix—the Scavengers,

a group of survivors with a love of recycling and all things hooded.

Unfortunately, this crew eventually betrayed Rick's collective during a massive shoot-out

with the Saviors.

But we're glad they showed up just for the pleasure of meeting McIntosh's character,

an oddball named Jadis who collects junkyard art and staunchly refuses to conjugate her

verbs.

"Our guns to take our deal still on."

Offscreen, McIntosh is practically unrecognizable as Jadis, except for the blunt bangs and post-apocalyptic

dye job that somehow manages to still look glamorous.

And unlike her character, the actress speaks in complete sentences — and with an English

accent.

"It was really exciting from start to finish."

How to Leverage Your Personal Brand for Business - Duration: 1:12.

- I think from your perspective man, this is

why we're talking about your story and making sure that

the real Bradley attaches back to light speed in a clear way

because people want to follow you, they want your bombs,

they want your knowledge and then, oh, by the way,

I own a company that helps give bigger knowledge

to everyone, then through you they find it.

It's already happening, but if you get that more clear,

it's going to happen a lot faster.

And so then as you scale your personal brand,

it scales the business brand.

And then if you've got something specific,

whether it's your own training or a client's training

to a specific audience, then obviously does a lot of

digital social marketing, he's targeting people

who want sales training or other types of training,

so then a specific instance like that, you target

those people but not a general sense, like I'm not

putting any dollars behind marketing Bold Worldwide.

I'm putting marketing dollars behind Brian Cristiano

and growing Bold because my story is very clear

that I'm growing this ad agency that's doing

things differently and getting real results.

And so through that is how we're generating the success.
