Algorithms & Data Structures For... Web Developers? - Duration: 7:00.
Hey, what's up?
John Sonmez here from simpleprogrammer.com.
Hey, I just wanted to give a quick thanks to one of our sponsors at Simple Programmer
which is DevMountain Bootcamp.
You should go check them out.
The link is in the description.
They are a coding bootcamp and they can teach you web development, iOS development, UX design,
a lot of good stuff.
I get a lot of feedback from a lot of you out there that email me have told me about
DevMountain, so I decided to check them out myself.
I like what I found.
I like their programs.
They offer some 12-week intensive programs.
They also offer some after-hours programs which I know that some of you will like.
Go check them out.
You can see the link in the description below, DevMountain Bootcamp.
A big thank you to them for sponsoring Simple Programmer.
I got a question about algorithms and data structures in web development.
This is as popular topic.
You can check out all the videos I've done on algorithms and data structures and learning
algorithms here.
I should have a playlist for that.
This question is from Vinny and he says, "Hi John, I would like to start off by saying
your content is incredible.
Your work is much appreciated.
Now, my question (and I'm sure is a question many developers ask) is: How important is
it for a web developer to know data structures and algorithms?
If they are important, how are they used mostly?
Thanks, Vinny."
I'll be totally honest here.
As a web developer needing to know algorithms and data structures, the need for it is not
as high as if you're a backend developer.
If you're not sure what a backend developer is or what a frontend developer is you can
check out the video here I have on what is a backend developer.
It doesn't mean that you don't need to know it and it doesn't mean that it's not going
to help you at all.
Let's think about this for a little bit here.
If you're working mostly as a web developer and mostly on the frontend, what you're going
to be doing is a lot of stuff with the user interface.
You're going to be creating a lot of controls and the visual aspect of it and not maybe
crunching data as much, but that doesn't mean that you're never going to do something that
requires an algorithm or data structure.
The thing is like if you think about it, algorithms and data structures it's like having a really
good toolbox with a lot of tools in it.
Now, you might be able to get by with just a hammer and a screwdriver and a few things.
You might be able to figure out how you can use nails and hammer and screwdriver and screws
for just about anything that you need, but it's not going to be the best and it's not
going to be the most efficient thing.
As a web developer, yeah, you might not need a complicated toolbox, but if you have those
things, if you have that, you're going to have more possibilities.
You're going to have more things—and here's the other thing is that, like I said, as a
web developer, you might not need this stuff and you might see ways that you can use your
existing tools and what you know, but until you understand this stuff, until you actually
take a study and you really understand data structures and algorithms you're not even
going to see the opportunities where you could use them.
You're going to be a little bit naïve.
As a web developer not knowing this stuff you might be getting by on your job and you
might be doing just fine, but you don't know what you're missing.
This is one of those unknown unknowns because you don't—once you see things differently
because you have that ability then everything—they always say that when you have a hammer everything
looks like a nail.
That's sort of the mentality that you can get into when you don't have this larger repertoire
of skills in software development.
I would basically say this, if you're starting out, if you want to get into web development,
maybe don't worry too much about the algorithms and data structures.
You don't have to have necessarily a really, really solid computer science background.
This is where the web—the bootcamps come into play.
A lto of developers go through bootcamps and then a lot of senior developers or experienced
developers say, "Oh the bullcamps—" the bullcamps, they call them bullcamps, right?
"The bootcamps are bullshit because you're not actually learning the real software development
computer science stuff.
You're not actually learning how to create algorithms and data structures and all the
fundamental stuff.
You're just learning how to do the web development part of it which is not—you're not a real
programmer."
Not true, okay?
But you can't stop there.
It's a great boost.
It's a great starting point if you can go through a bootcamp, if you can get enough
knowledge and experience to actually start working in the field, but then you're not
done.
Now you go back and now you learn the data structures.
Now you learn the algorithms.
Now you learn this kind of stuff that is going to make you better and give you a deeper more
thorough understanding and knowledge of your field.
Now this toolbox you're going to know how to use it.
I think a lot of developers that go through college, one of the problems that I see is
that they learn data structures and algorithms or they sort of learn them.
They get through the test and then by the time they get into the real world they've
forgotten most of that stuff because they haven't seen how to actually use it.
If I show you how to use a bunch of tools, if I pull out this—someone who's a real
good woodworker and I pull out their toolbox and I show you the lathe and all the stuff
and I show you how to use all that stuff just in a demonstration, but you're not actually
building anything of real use with it it's not going to stick and it's not going to be
useful to you, right, when you start doing some simple stuff.
If you're already working, if you're already working as woodworker or something like that
and now I introduce some tools to you and I show you how you can use these tools to
make your job easier, wow, that's going to stick with you.
It's going to make a lot of sense.
You're going to understand that stuff and it's going to be more valuable to you.
It's really about expanding your abilities and being able to see problems better through
the lens of someone who has the capability, who has the toolbox that's going to allow
them to be more effective.
That's what you've got to think about.
I'll just basically say this, I'll end with this and I'll say, "Look, if you're a web
developer currently, you should probably invest some time in learning data structures and
algorithms.
If you're not a web developer currently and you want to become one, don't worry about
that stuff for now unless you need it for an interview, but get your web development
skills.
Start working, start actually building stuff and then start learning some of these data
structures and algorithms and you're going to see how you can use them and that's going
to benefit you.
All right, I hope that helps you.
If it did, go ahead and click that subscribe button below.
I do about 2 to 3 videos a day.
If you have a question you'd like me to answer you can email me at john@simpleprogrammer.com
and I'll talk to you next time.
Take care.

Papantonio: The Jeff Sessions Crime & Carnage Pitch - Duration: 8:17.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions raised eyebrows last month with his comments on police reform.
According to Sessions, the agreements between the federal government and many cities across
America to reform corrupt and dysfunctional police departments are reducing the morale
of police officers and leading to an increase in crime.
As a result, the Justice Department has ordered a review of all consent decrees reached during
the Obama administration to examine whether these pacts are undermining the Trump administration's
goal of fighting violent crime.
RT America's correspondent Anya Parampil sat down with Mark O'Mara to discuss his views
on this issue.
Take a look.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a major review of all existing or contemplated
police consent decrees.
Can you explain for viewers what exactly that even means?
Sure.
When there is a problem with a police agency ... Discriminatory practices, failure to properly
deal with there community ... Then there is a possibility that the Department of Justice
will come in, look at the police department, look at the frailties of it, and then say,
'We're going to help you fix it.'
That 'we're going to help you fix it' is somewhat voluntary.
They enter into what is called a consent decree, which says as long as you do these things,
and fix your problems, then we'll leave you alone.
That really is what consent decree itself is.
It sounds almost so basic in itself.
It's not even that overbearing.
It's not as if the federal government is coming in and exercising extreme control over these
departments as is.
No, at that point it really is advice and some input.
Certainly, they may help them with increasing their diversity within their police department.
Like you only have 3% of blacks or minorities.
You should have 30%.
Let's get it up to 10 or 15.
That type of stuff.
Recommendation.
Absolutely.
In making this announcement, Sessions actually said that consent decrees increase crime.
Is that true?
I don't understand what his basis for that would be.
A consent decree occurs when the Department of Justice looks at something and says, 'This
is bad enough where it needs some federal oversight.'
Granted, Attorney General Sessions' perspective, the administration's perspective, seems to
be get the federal government out of everything they can, and that includes law enforcement,
which, generally speaking, I'm okay with local agencies and local governments governing themselves,
but when it becomes a problem, just like with Board of Education back in the days of Brown
v. Board of Education, when there are problems that the federal government has to step in,
then they should have the authority to do so.
Another major announcement Sessions made recently, one of many ... It seems that there have been
endless policy changes daily coming out from Sessions.
He was on the border and announced that he directed prosecutors to charge undocumented
immigrants caught crossing into the country unlawfully for a second time with felonies.
How has the Trump administration changed the definition of what it means to be criminal?
The problem that we have is we have federal laws that exist.
I wouldn't even call it a problem.
We have federal laws that exist that allow for strict immigration enforcement.
He didn't create a new law by saying second time in is a felony, but the reality is most
of those people who are coming across, most, are coming from the southern border and they're
coming here generally for decent reasons.
They're coming here to work.
They're coming here for a better life, and I understand that they are violating immigration
law.
But the idea of further criminalizing an event that is based, generally speaking, on poverty
and need doesn't seem to make sense.
If you want to have a stricter border control, let's do that, but we don't need more created
felons.
It's just a way to, in my opinion, be less sensitive to the realities that we have to
deal with rather than more sensitive.
What do you do in a situation like with our immigration laws?
As a lawyer, you're sitting here saying that they are basically impossible to enforce,
and that's what we hear.
What do you do when the law doesn't match with reality and the situation that we have
in the country?
The administration can come forward and say, 'Well, we're just enforcing law here.'
It's difficult because in a case like that, for example, you're not going to have a federal
judge come in like they have in response to several of the executive orders.
You're not going to have a federal judge come in and say that enforcement is illegal because
it is simply not.
You can enforce certain laws more strictly, and I think the administration is on good
grounds doing so.
The problem that I have with it is a little bit more holistic.
It's looking at the entire problem that we have and trying to spend the limited resources
we have a bit more, in my opinion, rationally rather than drastically.
We're already seeing in the administration's attempt to enforce some of these laws local
revolt, especially in the case of sanctuary cities, I would say, is an example of cities
saying, 'Well, we're going to make this decision, even if the administration is coming
in and saying that we have to enforce these laws.'
Again, it's a difficult razor's edge because those sanctuary cities are getting some federal
funding.
We all know that purse strings help maneuver behavior, but the idea that the administration
is going to walk in and say 'You won't have money for roads,' or 'You won't have money
for this because you, as a local government, have decided that you're going to spend your
police dollars on other matters than enforcing federal law.'
It's a little bit, not only antagonistic between the two, but senseless.
Finally, looking back at the first day of the Trump administration, remembering Trump's
inauguration speech, something that stuck out to me was when he said 'We're living
in an era of American carnage.'
That phrase ... To hear a president say that in an inauguration speech was insane, but
then he said that we were going to respond to this era by creating a law and order society.
Judging from the first 100 days of this administration, what do you think that society is going to
look like?
First of all, I'm not sure what he meant by carnage because I've done criminal defense
for 35 years and I know it, quite honestly, better than most.
I also know that violent crime is generally down in this country.
We still prosecute people for crimes that we probably don't need to, but generally speaking,
crime is down.
I don't get the era of carnage to begin with, but, since that is a premise from now the
most powerful man in the universe and leader of the free world, if that is his perspective
and the response to that is law and order, I'm very troubled because I'm very troubled
by an administration that is going to say to us 'We are in such dire straits, virtual
national emergency, that we're going to have to react to it.'
Quite honestly, those are the same words said by people in the past that have led us into
martial law.
I'm very concerned.
We have problems with crime in America still.
It's not perfect, but there are much better ways to deal with it than consider it carnage.
It sounds like the Trump administration's solution so far is to put all this decision-making
in the hands of police themselves at least.
That is a problem.
I represent police officers.
I like police officers.
They do a great job.
I would not want to risk my life every day protecting us from ourselves, which is what
cops do, but systemically, we have problems with law enforcement.
Implicit bias exists and it exists within police departments, and they need to be better
trained for community policing and how to interact properly and more collaboratively
with the community rather than this law and order, because that doesn't work.
The cops are here to help, let's let them help, not become militia.
Mark O'Mara.
Thank you for your time this afternoon.
Great to be here.

DECLASSIFIED CIA DOCUMENTS SHOW AGENCY'S CONTROL OVER MAINSTREAM - Duration: 13:26.
DECLASSIFIED CIA DOCUMENTS SHOW AGENCYS CONTROL OVER MAINSTREAM MEDIA & ACADEMIA
A declassified document from the CIA archives in the form of a letter from a CIA task force
addressed to the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency details the close relationship that
exists between the CIA and mainstream media and academia.
The document states that the CIA task force now has relationships with reporters from
every major wire service, newspaper, news weekly, and television network in the nation,
and that this has helped us turn some intelligence failure stories into intelligence success
stories, and has contributed to the accuracy of countless others. Furthermore, it explains
how the agency has persuaded reporters to postpone, change, hold, or even scrap stories
that could have adversely affected national security interests or jeopardized sources
and methods.
Although it is a document outlining their desire to become more open and transparent,
the deception outlined by various whistleblowers (example) requires us to read between the
lines and recognize that the relationships shared between intelligence agencies and our
sources of information are not always warranted and pose inherent conflicts of interest.
Herein lies the problem: What is national security, and who determines that definition?
JFK bravely told the world that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of
pertinent facts far outweigh[] the dangers which are cited to justify it. He also
said that there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will
be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official
censorship and concealment.
National security is now an umbrella term used to justify concealing information,
but who makes these decisions? You can read more about our world of secrecy and the Black
Budget here.
Not only are countless documents classified every single year in North America, but false
information and fake news are routinely dispersed, mainly by mainstream media outlets
a reality that is clearly conveyed in this document and has been expressed by multiple
mainstream media journalists themselves. And as with the NSA surveillance program that
was exposed by Edward Snowden, its a global problem.
Dr. Udo Ulfkotte, a prominent German journalist and editor for more than two decades, is one
example. He blew the whistle on public television, stating that he was forced to publish the
works of intelligence agencies under his own name and that noncompliance with these orders
would result in him losing his job. (source)
Sharyl Attkisson and Amber Lyon, both well-known mainstream media reporters and journalists,
have also exposed funded movements by political, corporate, and other special interests, and
have revealed that they are routinely paid by the U.S. government as well as foreign
governments to selectively report and distort information on certain events. (source)(source)
Lets not forget about Operation Mockingbird, a CIA-based initiative to control mainstream
media.
The document not only outlines the CIAs role in media, but also the entire entertainment
industry in general, lending further weight to revelations offered by celebrities like
Jim Carrey. He appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, saying that, For years now,
talk show hosts, people on television, people in sitcoms have been, hired by the government
to throw you off the tracks, to distract you, to make you laugh and stuff like that, make
you happy and docile so you dont know whats really going on.
While some question whether he was merely joking, the facts still remain. Another celebrity,
who was clearly serious, is Roseanne Barr, who referenced the CIAs MK Ultra mind control
program a previously classified research program through the CIAs scientific intelligence
division that tested behavioural modification and perception manipulation on human beings.
What we seem to have here is an attempt to manipulate public perception of global events
through mainstream media and news publications. But whats perhaps most interesting is the
fact that a lot of people are now waking up and seeing through many of these lies and
manipulation tactics. Instead of just blindly believing what we hear on television, more
people are starting to think critically, do independent research, and examine a wide array
of sources and information.
So many opportunities have emerged within the past few years allowing others to see
this more clearly. One was the recent fake news epidemic, where evidence surfaced
exposing information that threatened the global elite. Wikileaks is perhaps one of the greatest
examples. For mainstream media to basically label everything else as fake news was
quite ironic, given that it seems the majority of people consider mainstream media themselves
to be the real fake news, and this is now even more evident given the information
presented above in this article.
The documents also touch upon the fact that they are constantly in touch with the entertainment
industry, giving advice on scenes and direction, as well as how things happened in certain
situations. Personally, I feel the industry is largely used to push propaganda, like patriotism.
Patriotism is pumped into the population to support a large military in the name of national
security. We are being fooled, wars are not waged for defence, but for offence and
to push forth political agendas.
So you see, there are multiple reasons for these CIA connections to various industries.
Academia
From a young age were taught that getting an education is the key to living a good life.
Getting a decent job, making good money, even finding the right partner all depend on
following a certain path. Yet many concepts and topics are, as previously illustrated,
kept from public viewing, and this includes plenty of important science.
The U.S. intelligence community investigated parapsychology (ESP, remote viewing, telepathy,
etc.) for more than two decades, for instance. Russell Targ, a physicist who has spent several
decades working in a U.S. government program exploring these concepts, recently shared
his experience doing so in a TED talk that is now approaching 1 million views.
Another great example of Black Budget science comes from Ben Rich, the second director of
Lockheed Skunkworks, who worked there from 1975-1991. Hes been called the Father of
Stealth, having overseen the development of the first stealth fighter, the F-117 Nighthawk.
Before his death, Rich made several shocking open statements about the reality of UFOs
and extraterrestrials.
We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked
up in black projects, and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit
humanity. Anything you can imagine, we already know how to do it.
We now have technology to take ET home. No it wont take someones lifetime to
do it. There is an error in the equations. We know what it is. We now have the capability
to travel to the stars.
There are two types of UFOs the ones we build and the ones they build.
To read more about those comments and examine the sources, you can refer to this article
that goes into more detail about it.
Information like this, including testimony from hundreds of others, suggests that the
classified world is much more advanced than our mainstream one.
This particular document states that the agency exposes administrators of academic institutions
to the agency on a regular basis.
Obviously, as with any other job, the CIA would be looking for what they consider to
be qualified individuals. But the document does outline its close relationship with academia
in general.
This is because certain developments and information that stem from academia could threaten national
security and therefore must be kept out of the curriculum, and the public domain.
Take, for example, documents obtained via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that
reveal how the U.S. government has been using a secret system to withhold the approval of
some applications.
This 50-page document was obtained by Kilpatrick Towsend & Stockton, LLP, who commonly represent
major tech companies that include Apple, Google, and Twitter (to name a few). You can view
that entire document here. (source)
The program delaying patent applications is called the Sensitive Application Warning System
(SWAS). Usually when an application is submitted for a patent approval, it requires a couple
of examiners who work with the Patent Office to go through their process of approval. This
process usually takes one to two years, but applications that are filed in SAWS must be
approved from several people, and can be delayed for a number of years.
One great example (out of many) of delayed patent applications comes from Dr. Gerald
F. Ross, who filed a patent application for a new invention he had devised to defeat the
jamming of electromagnetic transmissions at specified frequencies. It was not until June
17, 2014 (almost 37 years later) that this patent was granted. (source)
Its important to note (as reported by the Federation of American Scientists see
annotated bibliography) that there were over 5,000 inventions that were under secrecy orders
at the end of fiscal year 2014, which marked the highest number of secrecy orders in effect
since 1994. (source)
Steven Aftergood from the Federation of American Scientists reports:
The 1971 list indicates that patents for solar photovoltaic generators were subject to review
and possible restriction if the photovoltaics were more than 20% efficient. Energy conversion
systems were likewise subject to review and possible restriction if they offered conversion
efficiencies in excess of 70-80%. (source)
This is all thanks to an act many people are unaware of. Its called the Invention
Secrecy Act, and it was written in 1951. Under this act, patent applications on new
inventions can be subject to secrecy orders, which can restrict their publication if government
agencies believe that their disclosure would be harmful to national security. (source)(source)
Final Thoughts
So, as you see, science and academia in the mainstream world can only go so far. We continue
to rely on government institutions to define truth and reality for us, to outline the limits
of what is possible. In many instances, these places to which we go to learn are actually
diminishing, not supporting, our creativity and critical thinking skills. Thats not
to say that there arent good aspects of the experience, but overall, we are not accessing
our full potential.
When information is hidden from us as well as manipulated at the same time, its only
going to spark more curiosity among the people. And thats one aspect of the current shift
in consciousness thats happening on our planet. Were beginning to see the human
experience in a different light, and starting to recognize that the time
for change is really here. What are we going to do about it?

Beaver Themer: Create Post Layout with Sidebar - Duration: 3:23.
Beaver Themer by default makes single
post layout in a full-width format like
this. How do we add sidebar to this
layout. Let's find out. Hello everyone I
am Davinder. In this video we will see
how to create a single post layout with
the primary sidebar. Now this is the post
layout that we created
in the previous video where it is by
default full width. So, let's go to builder,
theme layouts. Let's create a new
single post style and select singular.
Let's add this new theme layout. Now let's
select the location. Let's select a, say
minimum living post for this type of
layout, publish and now let's launch the
page builder. Now, by default your layout
would appear like this. So, let's start
and create the layout from scratch that
will have a sidebar. So, let's add a two
column row here and let's now go to post
modules and add post title,
done. Now, let's add post content, done. Now
Now, let's add sidebar. Well, you need to go to
advanced modules and look for sidebar.
Here you need to select primary sidebar
or any other sidebar locations that
you've registered in your theme, save and
you can make this adjustment, make the
sidebar column smaller and this is the
layout with the sidebar now and let's
delete these items. We can have the post
info added, even the author module can
be added back. We can delete this. So,
let's publish.
let's preview the post for which we
added this new layout. See this is how
the default layout of single post will
appear in Beaver Themer. Obviously you can play
around and make changes and this is how
you can manually make it you know with
the primary sidebar. Obviously, you can move
this to the left or right with simple
drag-and-drop.
That's the power of Beaver Themer. Hope
you liked it, if you liked it, click the
like button on this video. Subscribe to
this channel for more. Thanks for
watching.

Key rounds: Na`Vi vs North on Inferno @ SL i-League StarSeries S3 (ENG SUBS) - Duration: 5:00.
Hello everyone, my name is Evgeniy "Chaiwhy" Chayka and today I'll show you the key round of game vs North, on de_Inferno map.
Victory in this game allowed to pass the group-stage at StarSeries Season 3 LAN Finals.
Inferno pick looked quite risky, because the day before North won Astralis on this map,
but in the end we saw that yellow-black feel themselves very confident on the new version of this map,
and they are ready to show their prepared rounds, for example double fake during 14th round, which we will discuss now.
To make this strategy work it's necessary to control Mid, so defense can't read terrorist rotations.
That's what Na`Vi were doing until they had 40 seconds left.
After that they pushed Banana and exchanged the nearest player.
After a while Na`Vi went back to A, splitting defense between two points.
Even three players can't always stop push towards large plant, and they had only two after the rotation.
Guardian flashed double Mid, but received Smoke in exchange.
After the Smoke faded off, Guardian had to molotov the Patio, so S1mple from Boiler could catch running player.
However the second smoke blocked his vision and the Slovakian missed his Molotov.
Then he rotates to Banana, checking further positions of defense, and dies to the player up-close.
Flamie grenades Car and flashes Mid, against early defense aggression.
After that he controls Banana push with Edward, during fake push towards B he molotovs CT and retreats.
In Short he smokes off the Pit, and rushes into Edward's smoke, but there was a player waiting for him at the Plant.
Flamie did it too early, because neither Edward nor S1imple were in position to exchange immediately,
and Seized was far away, to cover the last seconds of the bomb plant.
Edward flashed Mid and threw Molotov towards Car, after that he held Underpass.
When CT isolated Mid, he switched to control Banana.
After making some noise he rushed towards Mid, and enters Short with the Flashbang, there already was a Smoke from S1mple.
It was made to create an illusion of B split push via Long.
After checking close positions Edward isolates plant with a Smoke, and climbs up to the Balcony.
After killing player who came from B in the Library, he died immediately to the player in Plant.
S1mple, walking through Second Mid, throws Molotov towards window.
Then he covers Guardian, throws Flashbang towards Long for him and controls the Apartments.
The first try of controlling the Patio was a fail, the second was with the help of instant Flashbang from Seized.
S1mple checked the corner and returned to Boiler, to control the Apartments once again.
When there was a clash at the Banana, S1mple isolates Short and scares off the player from Long.
Entering from the Balcony, he checks all the positions and kills the CT player in Pit,
who didn't peek before he heard the drop sound, to win some time for the player from the Library.
After jumping to the Graveyard, he finally kills Aizy, and after the bomb plant he holds Short.
I don't think it's necessary to comment his next action.
Seized positions himself at the Bridge in the beginning of the round.
At first he controls Boiler, then for a while he shoots towards the Appartment.
Then with Guardian's help he throws Smoke towards Long, HE and then a Flashbang for S1mple.
After picking up the bomb, he with Guardian becomes the main player,
and while checking close positions he wastes some time, that's why he had to exchange his sniper.
The further actions also look like an unnecessary risk.
With grenades in his hand he runs through a few potentially dangerous CT positions,
Then he throws Flashbang and Molotov while carrying bomb all alone on that half of the map.
Then he moves towards A, throwing smoke to cover their backs and plant the bomb at default.
Seized controls the Library, and after info from S1mple he hides in the Graveyard, to exchange him, if necessary.
I hope this video was useful for you and you will turn around a lot of games, with those strategies.
Thanks for your attention and see you soon.
