so I'm checking out another budget
tablet this time around from
Teclast it's the 98 octa-core it's
called the mode. It has 4G which is
quite interesting normal you don't see
that and it has two SIM slots on it so
full size SIM slot and a micro SD card
slot and the bands of support will work
for me at least here in Europe which is
band one and three and also the 3G 2100
megahertz band which is going to work
for me but this in the u.s. I don't
think it's going to work so I picked
this one up from Light in the box and
yeah typical DHL packaging you can see
also the first time I have used this
retailer so I'm going to have a little
review at this service here that they
sent it out quite quickly it's about 120
us and also their packaging so double
box but it looks like it has taken a bit
of a beating so there's some bubble wrap
there so the seals on the box have been
broken so no doubt they've really gone
through and put it in English check to
see if it has any faults so on the side
okay a micro USB to cable it looks like
we're not going to have a power supply
with this but that's not a problem
because any mobile 5 volt 2 amp or at
least has two arms charger will work
perfectly fine on these tablets so this
green speck of this one is 1920 by 1200
resolution very common screen that I've
seen in the pipo w3 it's an IPS panel
it's got 2 gigabytes of RAM 32 gigabytes
of storage and it does have a GPS
support but I believe that it doesn't
have a compass function so just your
standard GPS so it feels really light in
hand the weight of it is 492 grams and
just under 10 millimetres thick which
isn't bad up the top here there is a
front-facing 2-megapixel camera so on
the back
there's a five megapixel autofocus
camera and we have the two speaker
grilles down the bottom this part here
is metal but the top and the whole frame
of it is made out of plastic which is to
be expected for this price range and
here there is a cover for our micro SD
card slot and then the two standard
sized slots there for our SIM cards for
4G internet and 3G the quality of the
SIM slot here and the cover feels a
little cheap to me the micro SD card
port there for charging and data is in
an unusual location on the top
right-hand side top right side of the
tablet you'll find the 3.5 millimeter
headphone jack the volume buttons power
button and a reset button now these are
made out of plastic and they've got a
little bit of play to them they
certainly aren't super high quality but
as long as they do the job of course so
let's have a look and see how long it
takes to power up now I went to power it
up and it had no charge whatsoever
connected it up to my 5 volt 3 amp
charger and in 1 hour and 40 minutes got
almost 80% charge so that wasn't too bad
ok so straight away you can see some
bloatware applications there is a tick
last over-the-air update system I'll
check out later on and see if we do have
any Ron says can see what 79% battery
life screen looks reasonably good not
actually not bad at all quite sharp
another panel is glass it does have a
pre applied screen protector and of
course there is a gap between that glass
and then the IPS panel below so there's
the gap as expected it's reasonably
large around 1.5 millimeters or so now
looking at the lower sitting on the
brightness which is very dull this is
going to be great for nighttime use it
does get quite bright but I've noticed
down on 100%
brightness see how we have this IPS
bleed leakage around the side there
so it's not a super top end premium
screen that I've put in here it's still
good sharpness and the colors seem vibrant
enough and even in the settings menu
here you can still see on the side of
the screen there so the version it's
running this is Android 6 ROM and see
what other bloatware we have on there so
there's a few applications there now
something here called sim toolkit I'll
just check that out very quickly okay I
need a sim cat in there which I'll do
soon just uninstall that so most of
these apps I would say you can remove
normally that's the case and we no
longer have that custom launcher that
teclast
used to use so there is a phone dialer
you can see so we'll be able to make
phone calls and use this just like a
large mobile phone obviously it'll be on
speakerphone I guess there's a
microphone which is located just down
the bottom here tiny little dot there I
remember someone commented and said that
looks like someone's jammed a
screwdriver and they're trying to pull
up the screen no it's just to get so the
sound can get into the mic of course
free available storage 24.3 5 gigabytes
so connected up to the internet now no
wireless updates available at this point
and I highly doubt it will have an
Android 7 update at least not over the
over-the-air system you probably have to
download that from teclast website that
is if they ever do release it onto the
camera so the front-facing camera the
quality looks reasonably good to me not
bad at all and the rear camera well it
looks like it's doing some over
sharpening straightaway it's not kind of
take a brilliant photo 5 megapixels it
might be OK at least it's got autofocus
so if you wanted to take for example a
photo of some text or something it'll be
able to do that
but for everything else use your mobile
phone it does have FM radio on there now
that's not just a streaming application
there is hardware FM support so there's
a tuner built into the tablet there
because they've got Play Store Gmail's
re on there and messaging app there too
for your text messages so the wireless
it has wireless in five gigahertz band
and these are the speeds they just got
out of it testing it on my fiber line
which can get 300 megabits per second
it's doing okay via that's definitely
faster than what I got from the cube I
play ten and I'll struck a rather major
problem can't get it to detect any of my
SIM cards that I've put in there so I've
got a couple of 4G SIM cards and he
keeps saying no SIM cards if the reader
is just not reading it I don't know what
I'm doing wrong maybe it's my model here
so I'll put it in flight mode I pulled
them out put them back in I've tried SIM
slot one sim slot to power down the
device powered it back on it just
doesn't seem to want to read it for some
reason for the most part the ua does
feel fast and fluid but we do have
limits of course with only two gigabytes
of RAM place cores working there's no
errors and no problems with that the
performance you can see a little stutter
II but of course it's got a load in all
of those icons there so it's mentioned
in the start it's a mediatek mt6753 well
the maximum turbo of 1.5 gigahertz
we've got eight cores
their arm cortex a53 now that's an old
process of course 28 nanometers and you
can see that the governor there will
turn off some of those cores in fact
most of them it's only running at the
moment on one core to save battery there
but at the moment my battery from the
start was about 79 now I haven't done a
full charge or a full battery cycle yet
and the screens been on 100% but I'm
already down to 65% just running on 2-2
now and as you can see the GPUs
struggling with this very choppy but I
will test a game out just a second and
the result well quite low as expected
33,000
so the weaknesses the GPU the Mali T720
just like the cube I play 10 I reviewed
as expected these speakers sound very
tiny they're not really that great
they've got a little bit of volume to
them there now there probably is good
maybe slightly better than their cube I
play 10 speakers but still quite poor
GPS does work but it's not perfect
I noticed that now and then it will just
completely lose the position and there
doesn't seem to be a compass so it's not
a gaming tablet that is clear to me
because look at this performance that it
is so slow it's only running about 10
frames per second if that just like the
cube I play in which means game play is
going to be quite painful on those more
modern demanding games now modern combat
5 what I'm playing right now at the
moment isn't the most demanding game so
if you've got a game that was even more
demanding than this then, game over. You
would just end up getting so frustrated
with this so this tablet unfortunately
doesn't warrant any more of my time the
GPU performance as you just saw then is
very poor so this is not a tablet you
would buy or buy for someone that wanted
to game so you wouldn't get this for a
ten-year-old if you say want to play
some games out there because they're not
going to like it they're not going to
enjoy it sure they'll be able to play
the games though will it actually be
playable probably not the framerate is
just so laggy there apart from that okay
we've got GPS on there we have 4G dual
Sims it looked so promising but my unit
there seems to be a problem with the
slide I don't know what is going on but
it's just not accepting any of my sim
cards and I'm not going to waste any
more time on this I already spent about
half an hour turning it on turning it
off putting into flight mode swapping
Sims from one slot to the other it just
won't work there. So the build quality is
as expected for around 120 us it's okay
really I like how light it is I like the
fact that we do have
the 10, sorry 16 by 10 ratio which is
good to see I get a little bit tied
sometimes of seeing so many 16 by 9
aspect ratio screens. The sceens good but
as I pointed out in the beginning the
video we've got this IPS glow that's a
little annoying I'm used to seeing
better screens again what can you really
expect for the price so who would this
tablet suit. To me if that does work with
the 4G SIM cards then it'll be good for
maybe two something for traveling
checking emails the CPU performance
seems adequate enough for those basic
kind of things and now it will play
h.265 codec sorry vp9 won't play that
but it does play most video file formats
so does it come recommended from me well
I would go for something like the FN
iFive Mini 4S that I reviewed you get
much better hardware and it has a
written a screen in there but of course
it's seven point nine inches four by
three aspect ratio and it doesn't have
4G so that's possibly something that
people aren't even looking for but I
find it really hard to recommend this
one after seeing those issues there and
a GPU performance. Thanks a lot for
watching this video and I do hope to see
you back in the channel with
up-and-coming reviews of hopefully
tablets that are better than this one
