Waching daily May 9 2017

Woo!

It's getting hot out!

Squeaks and I are craving ice cream, but we don't have any.

So, we're going to make ice cream using science!

We know that ice cream is made out of cream and sugar and a flavor.

And we know that it's frozen, but it's not rock hard like plain ice.

It's more like very cold whipped cream!

So, we have cream and sugar.

We also have vanilla that we'll flavor our ice cream with.

And now we're going to take these three ingredients and turn them into ice cream!

And you can do this at home, too.

You'll need your three ingredients: sugar, vanilla, and cream.

Or you can use milk or half and half instead of cream.

You'll also need a measuring cup, measuring spoons, oven mitts or a towel, a small sealable

plastic bag, a large sealable plastic bag, ice cubes, a timer, and a grownup to help.

The last thing you'll need is the important one: salt!

First, take your three ingredients and put them into the smaller bag.

We're using a half cup of cream, a half teaspoon of vanilla, and a tablespoon of sugar.

And then, seal up that bag.

Next, put ice into the big bag.

We're putting four cups of ice in.

That'll make the cream cold.

But, here's the amazing scientific part!

We're going to add salt to the ice.

We're adding half a cup of salt.

It's important to add salt to the ice, because that will make the ice cream freeze much faster.

Here's why:

If you've ever put out salt on your sidewalk or driveway in the winter, you know that salt

can melt snow.

That's because when there's lots of salt in water, it needs to be colder than plain

water does to freeze.

Even if it's cold enough outside for /plain/ water to freeze into snow, it's probably

not cold enough for /salty/ water to freeze!

So when you add salt, the salty snow melts.

When you add salt to the bag of ice, the same thing happens.

The ice is cold enough to freeze when it's just plain water.

But it's not cold enough to freeze when there's lots of salt!

So the ice cubes in the bag start to melt!

That melting is /really/ important for making your ice cream really cold, really fast.

Because as the ice melts, it draws in heat, making the things around it much colder — including

your ice cream!

So, now that we've added salt to our bag of ice cubes, the ice is going to start to

melt and make the cream, sugar, and vanilla in the smaller bag REALLY cold.

While that's happening, we're going to make sure the ingredients in the bag become

ice cream!

This is where we need our oven mitts or a towel because this bag is really cold.

Protect your hands and hold onto the bag.

Now we're going to shake it!

It's good to have a friend to help you with this part.

Squeaks and I have made butter before, and we shook up the cream until it got hard and

turned into butter.

But before it turned into butter, it was soft and fluffy whipped cream.

Ice cream is harder than whipped cream, but softer than butter, so we'll have to shake

our cream /longer/ than we would to make whipped cream, but /not/ as long as we would to make

butter.

There are tiny pieces of fat in the cream, and as we shake the bag, they'll start to

clump together until the mixture becomes thick and creamy, just like ice cream should be.

If our salt water solution is as cold as if feels, that should take about five to ten

minutes.

Ready, Squeaks?

It's getting there!

It looks like whipped cream now.

Just a little bit longer.

It's looking a lot more like ice cream to me.

Let's open it and check.

Make sure you have a spoon handy to taste test!

What do you think, Squeaks?

Tastes good to me!

We did it!

And we hope your science ice cream is delicious too!

Make sure to ask a grown up help you with your experiments and share your results!

Squeaks and I want to thank our friends at Google Making Science who helped us with this

experiment.

Let us know how your ice cream turns out by emailing us at kids@scishow.com

Thanks and we'll see you next time here at the Fort!

Beautiful Cut - Bryant University - Duration: 3:09.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

The first thing a prospective student and their parents

see when they come to the campus isn't

the buildings, isn't the faculty, it's the grounds.

If you provide them with almost a golf course-like look,

you're going to provide, both the parent and the student,

a sense of security.

Well, my name is Jim Lucia.

I'm the Grounds Manager here at Bryant University

in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

I've been the Grounds Manager--

this is my sixth year, but I've been

an employee on the Grounds Department

for a total of 14 years.

And my responsibility here at Bryant

is to manage 13 members of the grounds staff,

including a mechanic, throughout each season--

spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Some of the guys that came from the landscaping

end of the business told me about Walker Mowers.

I, myself, came from a golf course background,

so I knew the bigger machinery.

But then I saw a fit with the Walker Mowers

and what their finish cut and the striping ability

can provide for curb appeal for any prospective student

and their parents that come to the campus.

The first thing that the students and/or

the parents talk about is how the grounds look,

so that ensures the fact that we're doing our job well.

And it takes a team to create a certain atmosphere

and a certain look.

And it takes machineries, such as the Walker Mower,

to provide that level of professionalism.

Because the campus is forested, we

need to get into a lot of the nooks

and crannies besides the big wide, open areas.

And the Walker Mower is able to provide

full coverage of mowing capabilities, whether on hills,

around canopies of trees, and around students

who are always looking at their cell phone these days.

Most landscaping equipment doesn't have the versatility,

the bagging system, the striping ability

that the Walker Mower can provide here on this campus.

And I can see it as I've gotten here.

I started with two, now I have four.

The numbers could become six in time.

You have vice president's, the president's house

that all need to be manicured in a certain way.

And this is the high end and the highest final cut

that you can get out of all the landscape

mowers I've dealt with.

This song is 11 months old.

Kinda crazy.

Most 11 month olds are a lot quieter than this one.

especially with a good sub

You know, cause with a sub, the normal teacher can take a break.

every once in awhile.

This song was used in the promo of a friend's Lego video.

Whenever I said Lego my Eggo as a kid, it was always Lego not Leggo.

Also I wasn't allowed to have eggo waffles as a kid.

Strange, right?

I thought one time, maybe I'll have an eggo anyway

At least my ID did.

But then my id and my super eggo talked it out and decided not to.

Which made my eggo happy.

Because I didn't have one.

Also, Legoless?

He's not an elf.

You know who is an elf?

That dentist from Rudolf.

I don't remember his name...

Barnaby... Yaber... Tony... Steve..?

I think it's Steve.

If you kept an elf, what would you name it?

How to Pronounce RUIN - American English Pronunciation Lesson - Duration: 1:39.

hey everybody Jennifer from Tarle

speech and language with your

pronunciation question

today's question is how do i say the

word ruin it's a very short little word

only four letters R U

I N four letters but we're going to

have two beats or two syllables in this

word so if we look at the syllables we

have Roo and then in roo is going to be

our long loud and the highest syllable

because this is our stressed syllable

and in is going to be very nice and short

and a little quieter and a little lower

in pitch so to say

roo you're going to start by saying an

R your lips might be a little more

rounded than usual for your typical R

because we have this very rounded oo

sound right after it

roo and then we're going to move to that

short in and your tongue is going to be

really high in your mouth for this ih

sound and then you're going to touch

your teeth the back of your top front

your tongue to the back of your top

front teeth for the n sound in roo in

ruin ruin ruin let's give that a try

How To Make Beef Breakfast Sausage ~ Homemade Breakfast Sausage Patties - Duration: 3:49.

Have you ever thought of making or

eating a beef breakfast sausage?

Hi everyone I'm Tess and I'm going to show

you in this video recipe how to make an

easy and delicious beef sausage that you

will love. (intro music)

If you don't eat pork or you have some

ground beef you need to use this is a

nice alternative breakfast sausage recipe.

And the answer to your question

is, yes. You can also use the same spices

for ground turkey, chicken or venison.

Before we get started, just a reminder

that you'll be able to find this recipe,

the list of ingredients and much more in

the show more section below and if you

have a chance, please check it out.

I'm starting by mixing all the spices

together. I have some brown sugar, salt,

black pepper, garlic powder, a little

crushed red pepper flakes, onion powder,

marjoram and lots of sage. Mixing all

those together until smooth. Just make

sure that there's no big chunks of

spices so they mix evenly with the beef.

I have 2 pounds of 80/20 ground beef.

You want the sausage to be flavorful and

juicy so you really don't want to use a

leaner beef for this recipe. If you do

have a leaner ground beef you may want

to add a little oil like a tablespoon of

avocado or safflower oil to keep it juicy.

Adding the spices and mixing well

with the ground beef. If you're not sure

of the spices, or the amounts that you like,

you can take a small portion of the

sausage like a tablespoon and fry it off

for a taste test. Just remember that you

can always add more spices but you can't

take away. After mixing, cover and

refrigerate the sausage for 24 hours so

all the flavors can marry together.

After 24 hours form the sausage patties.

I got seven nice size beef sausage

patties and it all depends on how big

you make them. At this point you can

freeze the patties. I'm putting some wax

paper between the sausage, placing in a

freezer bag and labeling. It is so

convenient in the mornings to get a

couple sausage patties out of the

freezer to make breakfast. To fry, I just

add a couple of beef sausage patties to my

oiled cast-iron pan. I fry on medium heat

for three to four minutes on each side

or until done. You could also break up

the beef sausage and make a sausage

scramble or, how about some biscuits and

sausage gravy?!

I love all the spices and flavors in the

beef sausage. You can make the sausage as

spicy as you like adding more pepper

flakes or some cayenne pepper. Some other

spices you could use would be some thyme...

poultry seasoning, oregano or even some

fennel seed. You will just need to

experiment with the seasonings that you like.

A couple suggestions on how I serve

the beef sausage, I serve with some fried

potatoes and eggs and the sausage

patties are great for breakfast sandwiches.

This morning I am making a

beef sausage egg and cheese bagel

sandwich. I hope you give this beef

breakfast sausage a try and enjoy.

Cidsa Talks About... Channel Status Updates for May 2017! - Duration: 1:30.

Hey all, just a quick update about all the various things going on with the channel.

First of all, you may have noticed that I haven't posted as many videos as of late.

The reason being is that I found the upload schedule far too difficult

and I honestly felt like if I kept pushing it then the videos would get shittier

and I'd stop having fun with it.

So I decided I would slow it down and do it at my own pace.

Secondly, if you don't know about it, I have a channel on Vid.me

which I have links to in the description and the card up here (which should hopefully appear..)

With a lot of changes to YouTube on the horizon,

I don't know if there will really be a place for me here, so Vid.me is a solid option.

I won't be going over there 100% yet

but follow me over there if you like the channel cuz it may happen in the future, who knows.

Also I really like the Vid.me community, so maybe you guys wanna go check that out.

Lastly, if you haven't checked out my Patreon, please head on over there.

Again, links in the description and cards.

I've changed it from a monthly into a "per video" dealie

so I'm not getting paid for doing nothing.

I generally don't shill this out all that much but if you want to support the channel

chipping in a buck or two helps a LOT.

I doubt this will ever become a full-time job for me

but Patreon money DOES help me get more games to review and all that good stuff.

Thank you all for continuing to watch

and I hope to bring out even better reviews as time goes on!

Why Is the Ocean Blue? - Duration: 3:02.

"Why is the sky blue?" is, like, the classic curious-kid question.

People wonder about it all the time.

But for all those people asking why the sky is blue, for some reason you don't get too

many questions about why the ocean is blue.

Maybe that's because the ocean sits under the sky.

So you might just assume that the oceans look blue because they reflect the sky.

But if science has taught us anything, it's that just because something seems obvious,

that doesn't mean it's true — like in this case.

Because the real reason the ocean is blue has more to do with the fact that water is

just … inherently blue.

The sky is blue because of Rayleigh scattering, where bluer light bounces off air molecules

better than redder light.

And some of that blue does reflect off the ocean's surface, but that's not the main

reason the ocean is blue.

The ocean is blue mostly from absorbing light, not from reflecting it.

Different types of light can make water molecules vibrate different ways.

When light, like from the sun, hits water, light on the redder side of the spectrum has

just enough energy to get those molecules wiggling.

So water absorbs red, yellow, and green light better than blue.

Most water molecules can't do much with blue light, though, so it basically just goes

right on by.

A small amount of water, like in a cup, might look like it lets every color through equally

well, since it's transparent.

But that cup of water actually lets slightly more blue light through than red.

And in the ocean, by the time you get to about a hundred meters deep, almost all of the red

light has been absorbed, so the water is a deep blue color.

Water still absorbs some blue light, though, which is why the oceans are completely dark

below about a kilometer deep.

Some blue light also gets reflected back toward the surface instead of absorbed on its way

down, giving the Earth its beautiful blue oceans.

There are some places with water that's a different color — it might be blue-green,

for example, because of algae that reflects green light.

And near mouths of big rivers, the ocean can look brown because of all the dirt and silt

in the river.

But no matter what's in it, deep water looks pretty blue, because that's the only color

of sunlight left after the other colors were absorbed.

Some animals have even evolved to take advantage of this by being red instead of blue.

Blue animals in deep water will reflect that blue light, so they'll be easier for predators

to find — or for prey to avoid.

But with little to no red light to reflect off of red animals, animals with red skin

or scales or whatever just look black in deeper water, which makes them harder to find.

So, no matter what the sky looks like today, just remember that deep water is always blue.

Thanks to patreon patrons Arraffa Piédiferro and someone who just put their name as a pair

of brackets for asking this question, and thanks to all our patrons, who keep these

answers coming.

Then I come back...

Hey!

...and I wipe the floor

Guys!

Chris: Today, we're putting superfan Evan in the same spot.

I'm Rachel.

Evan.

Hi, how are you? Are you excited?

What do you know

about Bill?

to help out his superhero

in a razor-blade commercial shoot,

but he's about to find out

what life is like in the center of the ring.

This is day two of the shoot.

It's been a little bit of a disaster.

Bill and our director are not really gelling.

I would love to have you be the liaison

between the two of them.

I'll make it work.

Hey, Rachel.

So, Bill, Evan.

Evan, Bill.

What's up, Evan?

Nice to meet you.

It's a pleasure, man.

Nice to meet you.

Um, yesterday was a little bit rough

between

the director and I.

You're gonna have to help quite a bit.

You're kinda like my right-hand man.

I want to be -- I want to help.

Yeah, you don't think like, what I do, the wrestling thing,

you don't think that's fake, right?

No.

This guy continues to make

these little snide comments about it being fake,

and I want to wrap my hands

around his neck and strangle him.

Did you go to makeup yet?

I'll go.

Speaking of. Hi, sir.

Did you go to makeup yet?

I'll go. What's he doing for us?

I'm a production assistant today.

Has she told you about Bill Goldberg?

She has.

He's a nightmare.

Isn't he?

Mm-hmm.

Talks about

how wrestling's real.

You know wrestling's fake,

right?

Mm-hmm.

It's good to have someone on my side finally.

Okay.

Razor Factory.

Rrahh.

God, this guy

and his attitude already.

All right. I'm gonna walk over and show you what it's like.

Just put it right here...

slam it down.

Mm-hmm.

Right in front of his face.

I wouldn't do it just like that.

Right in your face, eh?

Right, buddy?

Right in your face.

Evan. Can I talk to you for a second?

Just don't snap it in my face.

'Cause I'm already gonna kill him.

Okay? Thanks, man.

What's he talking about?

He said that he didn't want it right in his face,

but I'll try to get it as close to him as possible.

Why don't you just do it

how I told you,

and get it real close?

Okay. Thank you.

Quiet on set! Rolling!

Take one!

That was you, wasn't it?

Next times, guys, uh, just not the snap is the face.

Please?

Could you just call "cut"?

Cut!

Same line

as yesterday, correct??

Please? I mean, it's not rocket science.

You know what, guys? I'm gonna take a five.

Why don't you take 500?

So, let's just get

this thing done, man,

and move onto bigger and better things.

Evan: All right.

Derrick: This will be the wardrobe. I'm gonna give this to you.

You need to make sure he gets it on.

Okay?

Okay.

Everything they ask me to do is a joke.

What the hell is that?

Um, he told me that you need to put this on.

I think you're supposed to put it around your waist like this.

I'm not sure.

Obviously,

you're not the issue.

It's this moron

right here.

Did you just call me a moron?

Yeah, I did.

Do you have a problem with this?

What did you think I was gonna do

when you handed me a tutu?

This is the wardrobe for the shoot.

You're kidding, right?

You've got to be joking me!

Breathe. I want...

Okay, I want both of you to just take a second and breathe.

Now what?

I know you don't want to wear the stuff,

but if you just wear it for one take,

and if you do it for me as a fan,

we will be able

to get it over with.

You know what? For you, I'll do it.

And it's only because you said you were on my side, okay?

So, give me the bag and I'll do it.

I am not on anyone's side.

You said you were on his side?

No. I'm no--

You know what?

Hand me the bag, and I'll figure this out.

Thank you.

Thanks for helping out

with that.

You really kinda saved the day back there.

We're gonna do a focus check real quick, guys.

You're kidding, right? Like, seriously?

You're serious, right?

This is what you want me to wear?!

You're next, dude!

Come on.

Seriously!

Come on.

Calm down? Calm down?

The director wants to do this?

You're kidding me, right?!

Men: Whoa! Hey!

Okay --

Now it looks like you're next!

Breathe.

Please, Bill, for m--

As your fan,

I need you to calm down.

The character of Chelsea Marlowe is at an interesting place in her life.

She is a reporter and, in a lot of ways,

I think she has spent her life living for other people.

"But I refuse to strand you..."

"...without a proper view"

"of your side of the story"

"You need a fighting chance"

And so she comes to an interesting crossroads

after meeting and getting to know Joshua.

She is forced to start thinking about herself and the things that she is missing

and how those things align with what Joshua thought

he was missing and the reason that he went

into the woods in the first place.

"Who is he, who is he?"

"This riddle in the night"

So in addition to the two leads,

North Pond has a four-person chorus

and a small instrumental ensemble,

so in many ways it's a combination of a musical

and a chamber opera.

And the instrumentalists play music

that combines jazz and classical

and concert music and traditional musical theater

and the chorus sings in a way

that kind of fuses the two styles.

There were a couple of songs where I had

a tune in my head and then you sent me the music

and I was like, "Ben, that's wrong!"

*Ben laughs*

Because that's what I had in my head but I was like "no wait, he's writing it."

But that only happened a couple of times.

I think mostly it was rhythm.

When I said earlier, I talked about the differences in rhythm between Chelsea and Joshua - that

odd counterpoint of that sad cello and that

eager little piccolo having a conversation was nice.

You should come to see North Pond because it's

a relevant and contemporary story told

with relevant and contemporary sound and this

is a collaboration of lot of people that are

really passionate about what they do.

North Pond will be premiered at MATCH,

a brand new space for theater, art, and music

located here in Midtown Houston and is sponsored

by MUSIQA, a new music organization

here in Houston.

"I just like silence..."

"Silence...."

"silence..."
