Tezos is an all new smart contract platform built from scratch

with security and future growth in mind.

Smart contracts reduce costs, save time, and provide new options for automating complex transactions.

In the future, smart contracts will allow you to check-in to your hotel as you unlock the door.

Or allow internet routers to dynamically negotiate and allocate bandwidths.

Smart contracts can help manage access rights to your healthcare records.

They might let you insure your picnic using micro weather insurance.

But all blockchain platforms face a big challenge.

How does everyone agree on changes to the protocol and upgrades to the platform itself?

When participants can't come to consensus on the direction of the network, growth stalls.

Or, worse, hard forks split the network.

Tezos solves these problems.

Unlike other smart contract platforms,

Tezos has a formal governance mechanism on the blockchain itself.

We enable token holders to make decisions about how the protocol should evolve.

All decisions are made transparently on the blockchain.

Once a decision is made, the Tezos platform pushes the upgrade automatically to the network.

Tezos starts with a rich seed protocol.

But its governance mechanism allows token holders to upgrade all aspects of the platform.

It can even change the rules for decision-making.

Because Tezos starts with a unique modular design, with cleanly separated layers,

upgrading the protocol is as simple as changing out one layer for another.

There is no need need for hard forks.

Tezos is written in OCaml, a statically-typed functional programming language.

Formal verification can ensure the security of the platform by proving the correctness of its code.

It's typically a difficult process but writing in OCaml makes it much easier.

And Tezos also features a new smart contract programming language called "Michelson", also designed to facilitate formal proofs.

When your smart contract is handling high value transactions you want it to perform as intended.

Michelson makes sure of that.

This is Tezos.

A smart contract platform built with formally-verifiable code

and integrated self-governance.

How To Improve A Muddy Mix In Under A Minute - BehindTheSpeakers.com - Duration: 5:20.

Do your mixes sound like a muddy mess?

If so, keep listening to learn how to add clarity and separation to your tracks in sixty

seconds or less.

Hey, this is Jason Moss from BehindTheSpeakers.com and today we're going to talk about how

to eliminate muddy mixes.

In order to fix your muddy mixes, the first thing we're going to do is figure out where

the problem is.

And most of the time, this is going to be one track in your mix that has an excess buildup

of frequencies around the lower midrange or something in that area.

The problem with this is that trying to find out where that track is in a mix can often

be pretty difficult, especially with modern sessions where you're dealing with fifty

or a hundred tracks sometimes.

What a lot of people do is they'll start throwing different EQs randomly across different

tracks, hoping that they'll stumble upon the problem.

Or they'll throw an EQ over the mix bus and try to cut the lower midrange there.

And that may quickly solve the problem, but the problem with that is that you end up cutting

out a lot of good stuff from 99% of the tracks in your mix that don't actually have any

problem at all.

So your mix will oftentimes end up sounding thin or bright or brittle.

The solution is something that I call The Mute Button Method, and this was a trick that

I learned from my mentor, Grammy Award–winning mixer Bob Power.

And what it does is allow you to quickly find the source of the problem, the source of that

muddiness in your mixes, without spending a ton of time or aimlessly throwing EQs on

things hoping you'll find the answer.

I'll show you how it works.

So we're here in Pro Tools.

I have a track called Out Now by Leah Capelle pulled up.

And in this last chorus there's a lot of stuff competing for space.

We have background vocals, stacked guitars and I'm just hearing some muddiness, but

I'm not quite sure where it is.

It sounds like there is a lack of clarity.

Let me play you the track so that you can get a sense for what I'm talking about.

See…it's just sort of unclear.

I'm not sure what's contributing to that problem, but it sounds like it may be something

in the lower midrange somewhere that's too thick, it's kind of taking up too much space.

So, to find the track that is causing the problem, I'm going to flip over to the mix

screen here.

And what I'm going to do is I'm going to go through the mix, and just sort of start

muting tracks one by one.

I'm going to listen to see if that problem disappears or if it stays.

If it stays, I know that the problem isn't that track.

So I'm going to unmute it and then move on.

And I'm basically going to move through the tracks in my mix one by one, muting and

unmuting them, until that problem disappears.

And when it does, I know I've found the track that is causing that problem.

Let me go ahead and start with the guitars here.

So I'm just going to go from right to left here and kind of work backwards.

Ah, that's interesting.

So, right when I muted that track I felt like the whole mix opened up.

It just felt like that kind of cloudiness just disappeared.

We could hear things more clearly.

This is telling me that it is this track that is causing the problem.

Now I can add an EQ to this track and solve that problem.

So, with the mix playing, I'm going to go ahead and play this back, and just dial in

a cut around the lower midrange to see if I can clear up some of that muddiness.

So much better.

It feels like the whole mix just totally opened up.

So let me play you this again, first without my processing, and then I'm going to kick

the EQ in so that you can hear the difference.

So the mix just sounds cleaner and clearer.

We can hear things more clearly because this track isn't competing and taking over that

area of the mix.

So again, the trick is to go through each track one by one in your mix, mute the track,

and see if the problem is solved.

If the problem isn't solved, then unmute it and move on to the next track and stop

when the mix opens up.

And then you know you've found the source of the problem.

And so you can apply EQ confidently to that one track, knowing that that is the one track

that you need to EQ to fix the problem.

So if you've found this helpful, I've put together a free PDF with five more of

my favorite mixing tricks just like The Mute Button Method.

So this is going to make a massive difference in the quality of your mixes.

If you want it, click the link in the description below, or in the video, and you'll get free

instant access.

Thanks so much.

The Truth About Skin Aging | Presented by Olay and 23andMe - Duration: 2:37.

People think how well their skin ages

is all about their genetics.

It turns out they are wrong.

It all started with a big study and a little serendipity.

Olay was on a mission to understand every detail

of skin aging, and that's when we found them.

The 10% of women who are exceptional skin agers.

Exceptional skin agers are women who look

over 10 years younger than their real age.

These women have skin that is completely

breaking the rules of aging.

We became a bit obsessed with them.

These women in their 40's, 50's, even their 70's

had skin that was behaving so much younger

because their genes were so active.

But we wanted to dig deeper.

Is it nature?

Were they born with it,

and the rest of us are just out of luck?

Our scientists teamed up with 23andMe,

the leading Silicon Valley genetics company.

They helped us grow our study from 2,500 women

to over 150,000.

Olay analyzed the daily habits and genetic profiles

of our exceptional skin agers

to figure out what makes them different.

Skin aging is incredibly complex

so we were pretty blown away when we discovered

that just two genetic variations are linked

to exceptional skin aging.

And guess what?

About 2/3 of us regular people

have those variations too.

So, why aren't we all exceptional skin agers?

Because that variation is not the fountain of youth.

It just gives you a slight chance of becoming

an exceptional skin ager.

Picture getting a head start in a race.

You have an advantage, but it doesn't guarantee you'll win.

What Olay found was that the habits you form,

things that you control, are more impactful

than what's written in your DNA.

You can have those exceptional genes and throw away

that advantage with bad choices.

Your skincare habits, your SPF,

and your moisturizer are actually huge drivers of

exceptional skin aging.

Proof that what you put on your skin makes a difference.

At Olay, we put millions of dollars worth of science

into our jars,

and turn insights into products.

Since we know that the future of your skin

is quite literally in your hands

we created a tool to tap into it.

Our Skin Advisor can help every woman analyze

her current skin age,

and pinpoint the most personal skincare regimen from Olay.

It took 10 plus years, hundreds of thousands of women,

and countless dedicated scientists,

but we made a game-changing breakthrough.

Genes don't define your destiny when it comes

to being an exceptional skin ager, you do.

8 FREDERICK RUCKSTULL | How They Succeeded by Orison Swett Marden | Animated Book Summary - Duration: 4:21.

How They Succeeded – Life Stories of Successful Men Told by Themselves

By Orison Swett Marden Chapter 8 Giving Up $5,000 a Year to Become

a Sculptor Frederick Wellington Ruckstuhl was one of

America's leading sculptors, but it was not until he was 32 years old that he started

that particular profession.

Born in France, he and his family moved to St. Louis when he was a young boy.

Between the ages of 14 and 19 he worked in a photography shop.

He spent the rest of his time reading relentlessly and writing poems.

He then began studying philosophy, which he continued for a decade.

During this time, he also wrote for a newspaper but still did not know his calling.

Into his twenties he drifted from job to job and moved from Colorado to Arizona to California

before returning to St. Louis.

Still not knowing what to do, he turned to art.

He saw a clay sketch and thought he could do just as good a job and copied it.

His second sketch got him into the St. Louis Sketch Club.

He told his friends he would become a sculptor and was laughed at and ridiculed by them.

This was the first of many obstacles Ruckstuhl had to overcome to achieve his aim.

He got a job in a store but still found time to occasionally work on his sculptures.

He won a competition to create a sculpture of a famous general but when the awarding

committee found out that he was only a store clerk, they argued he wasn't able to do

the job.

His mother and father kept moving him from room to room to stop him working on his sculptures.

He wasn't even able to work in the attic.

At work, Ruckstuhl had advanced to Assistant manager earning $2,000 a year when he told

his boss that he wanted to become a sculptor.

His boss offered him $5,000 and the manager role to stay but he had found his life calling.

He was fully aware he would have to battle through poverty until he achieved fame for

his work but had confidence in himself.

He went to Europe for five months, travelling and visiting various pieces of art to see

what he could do and what he couldn't.

Returning to America penniless but with an improved knowledge of art, he decided that

a further three years of studying in France would be adequate to develop as a sculptor.

He secured sales of seven busts for $200 each.

The confidence people saw in him, increased his own confidence and he returned to Paris

as a student.

During this time, he spent nine months creating a piece of art called "Evening" – a

nude female figure.

This was his first significant success which resulted in his name mentioned in the Paris

newspapers.

Taking his "Evening" to St. Louis resulted in his father congratulating him and he went

up in his family's estimation.

Returning to Paris, it was displayed in the Salon, the greatest art event in the western

world at the time.

It then went to Chicago for the World's Fair, where it had the place of honour.

This success paved the way for further success.

In 1892, he began work on a new piece called "Wisdom", which still sits at the entrance

to the Courthouse in Manhattan, New York City.

Despite this success, Frederick Ruckstuhl said he was continually discouraged.

Some days he would finish his work and be satisfied with what he's done.

Then the next morning he'll look at his previous days' work and consider it vile.

He is his worst critic and may redo the work he considers inadequate until he is satisfied.

This process continues until the task is accomplished.

For Frederick Ruckstuhl, art was in him since he was a child but he was discouraged to travel

down that path even when it tried to summon him.

Eventually it claimed him, despite many stumbling blocks on the road to success in that field.

On being a sculptor he said "You strive to create the imagination of your mind, and

it comes to you as if sent from another world" and that is his secret to success.

Put more simply: "You strive".

Lucidchart vs Visio - An Unconventional Comparison - Duration: 1:48.

Would you rather work with this saw?

Or this saw!

This computer?

[Have you checked your email?]

Or this computer.

Would you rather work with this diagramming software?

Or this diagramming software.

Lucidchart is just a better diagramming tool

designed to make your job easier.

I mean, work can be tough enough.

Deadlines, meetings...

Janice always reheating her leftover salmon in the company microwave

Not ok, Janice.

On top of all that, I don't need lackluster software

getting in the way of me doing my job.

Case in point: Microsoft Visio.

Let's face it. It's annoying.

like if Jar Jar Binks was reincarnated as a diagramming software.

[Meesa Microsoft Visio!]

So if you're like me, stuck using terrible software...

What do you do?

Eat your feelings?

Tweet your feelings?

Leave your tech job, join a monastery, and take a vow of software celibacy.

[Hallelujah]

Yeah, you could do those things.

Or you could just use better software.

For starters, you could stop using Visio

and try Lucidchart instead.

I mean, it's not going to solve all your work problems.

Janice.

But when you need a diagramming application,

Lucidchart will save you time, energy, money...

and your life.

[In very rare, unverified situations.]

Visio's just lagging behind.

I mean it's pretty bad when you've got

more 1 star ratings on Amazon than 5 star.

But even worse when you consider you're getting beat

by this movie.

Meanwhile, the people using Lucidchart

are loving it.

Maybe that's why more than

2 million people

have switched over

from Visio to Lucidchart.

It's just a better diagramming tool.

An incredibly intuitive, cloud-based software

that works on every operating system.

Which means you can collaborate on documents in real time because

it's 2017.

Visio.

And if you've already got a ton of Visio files, you're not stuck.

Lucidchart can import and export Visio diagrams

with just the click of a button.

So if you're sick of terrible software,

click to check out Lucidchart and try it for free.

Go ahead.

Click it.
