Light Transport on Specular Microstructure | Two Minute Papers #193 - Duration: 3:14.
Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.
Using light simulation programs, we are able to populate a virtual scene with objects,
assign material models to them, and create a beautiful, photorealistic image of this
digital scene.
The theory of light transport follows the physics of light, therefore these images should
be indistinguishable from reality, and fortunately, they often are.
However, there are some cases when we can tell them apart from real images.
And the reason for this is not the inaccuracies of the light transport algorithm, but the
oversimplifications used in the geometry and material models.
The main issue is that in our mathematical models, these materials are often defined
to be too perfect.
But in reality, metals are rarely perfectly polished, and the classical material models
in light transport can rarely capture these microstructures that make surfaces imperfect.
This algorithm is about rendering new material models that can represent the imperfect materials
like scratched coating and metallic flakes on carpaint, a leather sofa, wooden floor,
or a teapot.
Just look at these phenomenal images.
Previous techniques exist to solve this problem, but they take extremely long and are typically
limited to flat surfaces.
One of the main difficulties of the problem is that these tiny flakes and scratches are
typically orders of magnitude smaller than a pixel, and therefore they require a lot
of care and additional computations to render.
This work provides an exact, closed-form solution to this that is highly efficient to render.
It is over a hundred times faster than previous techniques, has less limitations as it works
on curved surfaces, and, it only takes 40% longer to render it compared to the standard
perfect material models.

It is truly incredible that we can create images of this sophistication using science.
It is also highly practical as it can be plugged in as a standard material model without any
crazy modifications to the simulation program.
Looking forward to seeing some amazing animations using more and more realistic material models
in the near future.

Mine-Crafty 4: How to make banners in Minecraft - Duration: 7:27.
Hello everyone, welcome to The Ultraboot Gaming.
This is Mine-Crafty, where I teach how to build and also give easy tips for Minecraft.
Let's start and today I'll talk about…
BANNERS!
Flags or banners have been around for some time in Minecraft,
they were added in 2014 in the 1.8 update, which is known as The Bountiful Update.
They are used to decorate and can be put in various places depending on the use you want to give them.
For example, they can be used as a symbol of a player,
They can be placed at the entrance of a house, base or castle to indicate who owns it,
They can also be used as a symbol of a village or kingdom, among many other uses.
Banners are decorative objects and their fabric can be made with 16 colors. They're all in front of you.
The Banner's fabric can also be customized with patterns or colored designs.
In this video, I will focus only in the banners, therefore I'll talk about the patterns in a next video.
Banners can be placed on blocks and in many directions
They can also be placed on the walls
Banners can be picked up faster with an axe
They'll fall if the block where they are placed is moved or destroyed
Water and lava flow around them, without taking them out of place
AWESOME!!
Banners do not burn with lava or flames. Sometimes you can see flames when they are near lava, but the banner never burns.
Banners can be placed on shields to decorate them
They can also have a custom name which is chosen by the player
They can be used for fuel in the furnaces
but I do not recommend it because it's a weak fuel and will process fewer objects.
Some banners can be found in the world, for example in the Woodland Mansion and also in The End buildings
nevertheless we need to find these places, which can take a long time.
Also, they do not appear with all colors or with all patterns.
The best way to get them with the colors and patterns we want is to make them on a crafting table.
I will teach you how to make banners with all 16 colors for its fabric,
I'll also show how to place them on shields and how to name them.
About the patterns and designs I'll talk in a next video.
Let's see then how we can do the banners?
First, let's talk about the materials we need.
Banners are made on a crafting table,
and for each banner, we will need a stick and six blocks of colored wool.
Sticks are very easy to get: just pick up wooden logs, which we use to make planks and then the sticks.
I taught how to do the colored wool in a previous video. If you didn't see it yet, you can see it after this one.
There are 16 blocks of colored wool and I have them already prepared.
I'll get the sticks and the wool
and we'll make the banners on this crafting table.
I put the stick here, I put the wool in the blocks above and now we can make the banners.
AWESOME!!
They're easy to craft, aren't they?
For each banner, we have to use wool with the same color.
But we can use all 16 wool colors to make banners with those fabric colors.
Now I'm going to make one of each

I shared before with you a casting tip
about keeping your keeping your arm in while you're casting.
One of the most important casts, and one of the most useful and easy cast
you can learn, is a roll cast.
Everybody should know how to roll cast.
It was the way I was taught to fish thirty years ago.
Just simple roll cast. You don't have to be fancy with it.
And you can really shoot the line out there.
We're going to have the camera go behind me here,
so, you can get a really good idea of how to do it
One of the great things about roll casting is I can fish in tight areas.
If I was behind underneath this tree here. I could get underneath this tree, with no back cast, I can cast it just about as far as I want to.
With no back cast and worry about getting stuck in the tree.
So, let's get the camera behind me and I'm going to show you how to do it.
Okay, this is a very simple cast. There's only a few keys to remember.
You want to keep your line on top of the water,
so, it has less resistance coming up.
So you get a lot more left coming off the water.
Another thing is, you're going to lift the rod straight up.
You can even hold it there.
I can cast from right here.
You don't have to have a back cast on this.
That's right there.
So, we're just going to roll that line over.
The line is made, so it just rolls right over.
By line doing its job, it's going to roll over on its own.
So, we'll see how far I can roll cast this.
I can roll cast it almost as far as I can cast it overhand.
And I can be pretty accurate with it too.
That's how simple the roll cast is.
And it's a tool that you need in your arsenal when you're out fly-fishing.

Jurgen Klopp has made four changes to his Liverpool lineup for Sunday afternoon's Premier League clash away to Newcastle United.
The Reds take to St James' Park for their final outing before the October international break, looking to build on their win away to Leicester City in the league last time out.
Held to a 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow in midweek, however, Klopp's side will be feeling the intensity of a gruelling night in the Champions League.
And the German has once again shuffled his pack, with Daniel Sturridge among those to come back into the side.
Simon Mignolet takes his place in goal, shielded by a back four Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno.
In midfield, Jordan Henderson is set to operate in the No.
6 role in his 250th game for the club, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho given more progressive duties.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Sturridge will line up as Klopp's three-man attacking unit.
Liverpool have not taken on the Magpies since the end of the 2015/16 campaign, when goals from Papiss Cisse and Jack Colback cancelled out efforts from Sturridge and Adam Lallana.
This time out, Klopp will be eager for a better result than that 2-2 draw at Anfield.
For Newcastle, Rafa Benitez has named two ex-Reds in his starting lineup, with Javier Manquillo at right-back and Jonjo Shelvey in midfield.
Dwight Gayle, who often proved a scourge for Liverpool during his time at Crystal Palace, is on the substitutes' bench.
