Hello, brothers and sisters!
The duties of a Jewish man towards his wife were very free.
He could kick her out of the house and send her to her father by any small reasons
The Gospel changes this
And obligates the husband to treat his wife completely differently.
Which is very difficult for the sinful man.
His students are telling Him
"If this is a man's duty to his wife, it is better not to get married."
A Jewish man, as well as a Roman one or Greek, was free.
He could have concubines, i.e. she shared a bed but not property.
Children from a concubine could not be heirs.
That was completely fine for common people.
There were legitimate wives for procreation and that's it.
And for people, for those pegants whose main enjoyment in life was in iniquity,
there were a lot of different questionable ways of how to make their life marrier.
It was just like this by Jews only hidden with Religious law.
And here Christ says that you can't get divorced.
You are Adam, she is Eve. There are only two of you on Earth.
Forget that there is someone else.
There are no men for a husband-loving wife except for her husband.
There are no women for a loving husband except for his wife.
There is no one. You are Adam and Eve. "Let's return to Heaven." says our Lord.
And when the Apostles heard that, they said, they exclaimed:
If the man has such duties in front of his wife, maybe it's better not to get married at all?
Of course, it's better not to get married if a man had such duties towards his wife.
Love her, respect her, take take of her, kiss her, etc.
And don't leave her and "till death takes us apart"
What a noble soul one should have. A broad soul like the sky and deep like the ocean.
Who has such souls?
Souls are shallow. There are lots of passions and sins.
And souls are pitiful like sand on the beach.
That's why one wants to marry 15 times in his life.
And dream about the 16th till death.
Christ is answering the question whether it is better not to get married.
He says, sure it is but not all of us can do it.
It's interesting that Paul was saying that if you get married, you will have grief of the flesh.
And I fell sorry for you. If you can, be like me.
God is telling you, not me: "Be like me."
But then everything is to your abilities.
Marying your daughter is good and not marrying is good too.
Do according to your faith.
In this part of Gospel, we can see that marital life is hard.
It is a Holy Cross. It is a Salvation Cross. But it is not easy.
One should treat marriage as a blessing and the Cross at the same time.
Eastern poets compared marital life with a rose.
It savors but stings too.
Nothing can sting like a rose. But nothing is as beautiful and savoury as a rose.
The marriage is like this. If you can stay single, if you are a son of Heaven, be a monk.
But if you cannot, check yourself. If you're a weak person, then get lawfully married
And love your wife as God ordered.
That would be your Cross. It won't be smaller that the monastic Cross.
It's a pity we don't have a lot of time because I have so much to say. Good bye.
