Waching daily Oct 5 2017

Welcome, I'm Kerri and today I'll be showing you how to crochet this car.

You'll need small amounts of four colors of cotton or wool, a crochet hook, thread

to sew the car together, a sewing needle, scissors, and also a darning needle to

weave in the ends. I'm going to start with the body, and my main color and work

35 chain.

Now I miss my first chain and I work one single crochet into each chain to the

end.

For row two we work one chain and turn, and we work a decrease single crochet

into the first two stitches. So we go into our stitch and pick up a loop, and

then go into the next stitch and pick up and loop, and put our yarn round and

through all three stitches, and that's a decreased single crochet. Now I work one

single crochet into each stitch to the last two, and I'll work a decrease single

crochet in those. So I'll work across to the last two stitches and I'll be back.

At the end of the row, over our last two stitches we do another decrease single

crochet into the last two stitches. For row three we start with one chain and

turn and we work one single crochet in each stitch to the end. So I'll work

those and I'll meet you at the end of the row. For row four we start with one

chain and turn and we work a decrease single crochet over the first two

stitches, and then one single crochet into each stitch to the end. So I'll work

this row and I'll be back. Now I've worked my two decrease single crochet at

the end, then I work one chain and turn, and for row five I just work one single crochet

into each stitch across. So I'll crochet the row and I'll be back.

For row six we start with one chain again and turn, and work a decrease

single crochet over the first two stitches, and then we work one single

crochet into each stitch to the last two. And for row seven we work one chain and

a single crochet into each stitch to the end. So I'll work rows six and seven, row

six a decrease single crochet at each end, and row seven is just one single

crochet into each stitch. So I'll work those two rows and I'll come back. For

row eight we work one chain and turn and work a decreased single crochet into the

first two stitches, and then one single crochet across to the last two, and then

we'll work a decrease single crochet into those two. So I'll complete row eight

and I'll be back. For row nine we work one chain and turn, and then we work two

decrease single crochet over the next four stitches.

A decrease single crochet over the first two stitches, a decreased single crochet

over the next two stitches, and then a single crochet into each stitch to the

last four.

Over the last four stitches we work two more decrease single crochet.

For row ten we start with one chain and turn, and then we work two more

decrease single crochet over the next four stitches, and then we work one

single crochet into each of the next four stitches, then we work one chain and

turn. Now we're going to neaten the car body by working a single crochet into

each stitch all the way around.

I just finish into the corner here, just in there and fasten off. So I'll work

my neatening row and then I'll be back. And there's my body finished. Now I'm

going to start on the wheels. I start with my main color and a magic

loop. Into my magic loop I work four chain and thirteen treble.

And then I pull my circle tight and slip stitch into the fourth chain, and I'll

fasten that one off.

Now for the contrasting colour, I can join my cotton anywhere on the circle. And I

start with three chain, and I work one double crochet in the same spot as the

chain, and now I work two double crochet into each stitch around. I'm

crocheting in my end.

So I'll work around the wheel and I'll be

back. And I join with the slip stitch into the third chain, and fasten off.

Now I'll work the folded roof now. I'll start with the eleven chain,

and I work two treble in the fifth chain from the hook,

and then one treble in the next chain,

now I work one double crochet into the next stitch, a half double crochet into

the following stitch, and then single crochet into each of the remaining

stitches.

For row two I start with one chain and then I slip stitch over the first six

stitches.

Next I work five chain, and work a half double crochet in the third chain from

the hook.

Now I work a double crochet into the next stitch,

a half double crochet in the following stitch,

then another half double crochet into the slip stitches, and now I single

crochet down to the end.

For row three start with one chain, and

then slip stitch

over five stitches, and then we work six chain,

and we work a double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook, a double

crochet into the next stitch,

a half double crochet into each of the next two stitches,

and then a single crochet in the next, and then slip stitch to the end. At the

end we're going to work three chain, and a four double crochet cluster evenly

over the end,

and fasten off. The cluster at the end just gives you a bit of a point to go on

there, and that's your folded roof. Now we need the two bumper bars. So you

start with four chain, miss the first chain, and single crochet into each of

the other three,

and then one chain, and we work two rows of single crochet into each of the three

stitches,

and fasten off.

And you've just got a little kind of square. I'll just stitch that in a bit when I

stitch it, and I'll need two of those. For the door handle I just work three chain,

I leave ends to stitch it in, and just work three chain.

Now for the black under the wheels I just attach my black, just so that it

will fit under the wheel. And work one chain, and a single crochet

into each stitch.

And that should be enough, so I'll fasten that off.

For the outline for the doors I just work chain.

The front one starts just in this corner here, and we'll go down to under the

wheel, so just enough chain to fit it under the wheel.

It's too many that one will fit for the back door, so I'll fasten that one off

and I'll make a smaller one for the front.

That will be plenty.

So I'll stitch these on, and I'll finish off my endings, and I'll come

back and we'll do round the wheels and the other parts.

Now I've stitched the door strips on. Next I'm going to crochet around the black on the

top of the wheels. I start just after the join, and join my thread on, and start

with one chain, and I single crochet around to halfway.

I'm crocheting in my end.

Now that looks like half way, so I'll fasten that one off, and I'll work the

other one the same.

For the back of the seat I join just in near the door, just behind the door strip,

and I work five chain.

I work one half double crochet in the third chain from the hook, a double

crochet in the next chain, and a treble in the last chain,

and then slip stitch into the car body, and fasten off.

For the windscreen I use gray for this part and I join just down this side of

the car, the strip.

And I start with twelve chain,

I miss the first chain, and I single crochet into each of the next two chain,

and then I half double crochet into the next two chain,

and double crochet into each of the next four chain,

and then I treble into each chain to the end.

And then I slip stitch into the body of the car, just up in there, the top, and

fasten off.

For the light I make a magic loop, and work three chain, and I work a three

double crochet cluster into the loop.

Pull the loop tight and fasten off. Now I'll finish off my endings and stitch

around my other wheel and I'll be back. Next I'll stitch the wheels on, the front

one goes just over the door strip, and the black bits just touch the bottom. And

the back one goes just behind the door strip. So I'll stitch those on, I'll also

stitch on the door handle. I'll crochet on the steering wheel now. I

join black about four stitches up on the windscreen,

and just crochet about three chain,

and then I slip stitch into the car body,

it's a bit fiddly, and then I single crochet along to the windscreen, just in

the bottom there and fasten off.

And that's the steering wheel. Now I'm going to attach the folded roof, it goes

just behind the seat. And the two bumpers one at the back and one at the front, and

the light. Now if you're having trouble with the placement of anything I've got

my patterns on my website, the details are in the description below. I'll just

stitch these on and I'll be back. And there's the finished car. Unfortunately

from next week I'll have to cut back to just doing one video a week. So I hope

you can join me next Friday for another video, thank you for watching, I hope to

see you next time. Bye.

Mercedes-Benz presents: Beat the Legend - Duration: 2:01.

Please welcome Bernhard Langer onto the 10th tee.

Okay, Bernhard. 96 players, 45 on the green.

Wow! I'm impressed. Well done!

156 metres, I'm going to go with a six iron.

Not too bad.

Not too bad. Thank you.

Who's going to be my caddie?

He's a good caddy, huh?

Well that was very fortunate. I'm sorry about you guys, I'm still unbeaten.

Have to do it next year or the year after.

So let's talk a little bit about a flop shot.

Some of you might have ended up over here.

This shot has to go high and stop quickly

because I don't have a lot of green to work with.

The key is to not scoop it and then also follow through this way.

See where the belt buckle goes through and you don't just…

Some people they just kind of quit and do that.

I need to make a pretty big swing

like a bunker shot.

Goes nice and high and comes down soft.

Thank you.

Musical Performances Guaranteed To Make You Cry - Duration: 6:56.

Some musical performances will make just about anybody cry.

Whether the performer got emotional or because the song itself is so darn sad, sometimes,

you can't help but be moved to tears.

The following are musical performances that are guaranteed to make just about anyone cry.

Ashly Williams on The X Factor USA - "I Will Always Love You"

Ashly Williams performed "I Will Always Love You," a song written by Dolly Parton and made

popular by Whitney Houston, on The X Factor.

When Williams was just 14, her mother was murdered, and Williams performed this song

just before what would have been her mother's birthday.

She soars through the song, and at the end, among thunderous applause, she points to the

heavens and mouths "for you" to her mom.

If that doesn't get you, what will?

Williams went on to compete on Kelly Rowland's reality show Chasing Destiny in 2016, and

her girl group, June's Diary, just released a mixtape called Male Edition that features

covers of "Hey Jude," "Poison," "Stay," and other songs by male groups.

This performance, though, dedicated to her Guardian Angel, is what led the way to her

success.

"Love… you!"

Kelly Clarkson on American Idol The Farewell Season - "Piece by Piece"

The first winner of American Idol, vocal powerhouse Kelly Clarkson, performed "Piece by Piece"

during the final season of the show.

Clarkson wrote the song when she was pregnant with her first child, River.

It's about how she was able to discover love for herself even after her father's abandonment

when she was young.

"He'll never walk away, he'll never break her heart, he'll take care of things!"

She told the Huffington Post,

"A lot of the reason why I wrote 'Piece by Piece' was I guess I didn't realize the gravity

of the situation until I had a child of my own, and until I experienced love like I do

with Brandon on the daily."

It's no surprise that Clarkson got choked up during the song, and practically everyone

in the world cried along with her.

Especially Keith Urban.

He looks positively wrung out, emotionally speaking, by the end of the song.

Us too, Keith.

Adele at Brit Awards 2011 - "Someone Like You"

James Corden, when introducing Adele and "Someone Like You" at the Brit Awards 2011, said,

"If you've ever had a broken heart, you're about to remember it now."

And he's not kidding.

The song is so loaded with emotion that even the album version makes tender-hearted people

cry.

"Sometimes it lasts in love and sometimes it hurts instead..."

Adele makes it through the performance, but she falls apart right after.

It was, after all, the first performance after her throat surgery.

But it's a tearjerker of a song nonetheless.

So much, in fact, that psychologists from the University of London studied it to find

out why.

Turns out that if we like that song, we're nostalgic people with a penchant for suffering

through someone else's pain.

Ouch.

Connie Talbot on Britain's Got Talent - "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"

Little Connie Talbot was only 6 years old when she performed "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

on Britain's Got Talent in 2007.

"Somewhere over the rainbow…"

As if hearing an adorable little girl with a British accent sing wasn't enough, her voice

is otherworldly.

She has no front teeth, and isn't sure how she'd feel about singing in front of the Queen

— but she holds the judges and audience in rapt attention during her a capella performance.

Talbot came in second on the show, and she's still singing.

Lady Gaga on Howard Stern Show - "Edge of Glory"

Before Lady Gaga sang "Edge of Glory" on the Howard Stern show, she got a little choked

up saying what the song was about:

"It's about also knowing in your heart that you might never reach that glorious moment

until you die.

So live life on the edge."

Then, she sang the living heck out of the song and it is so soulful, so emotional…

"I'm on the edge of glory and I'm hanging on a moment of truth."

...that by the time she hits the last note your heart will be beating fast and you may

have to fight back some tears.

Norah Jones at Detroit Fox Theatre - "Black Hole Sun"

A tribute to the fallen musician Chris Cornell, Norah Jones uses her otherworldly voice to

wrench the hearts right out of the folks at Detroit Fox Theatre on May 23, 2017.

"Black hole sun, won't you come.

Won't you come..."

Her cover of "Black Hole Sun" came just days after Cornell's death, in the same theatre

where Soundgarden played their final show.

Simon & Garfunkel at The Concert in Central Park - "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

Simon and Garfunkel were a popular singing duo before they first broke up in 1970.

They reunited a few times, most notably perhaps at The Concert in Central Park in 1982.

Art Garfunkel got up and performed his famous song — with tears in his eyes — perfectly.

One YouTube commenter said,

"I was at that concert.

When he sang this you could have heard a pin drop."

"Like a bridge over troubled water."

That's quite a feat for an event that had 500,000 attendees.

Watching it all these years later, you can see why.

Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV - "The Star Spangled Banner"

The sad fact that Whitney Houston is no longer with us is enough to make most music fans

cry, but emotions were especially high during this performance in 1991 because of the Persian

Gulf War, and patriotism was strong.

Add that voice, and it makes you cry for a country in crisis.

"Star-Spangled banner yet wave!"

Houston's crystal clear, pitch perfect performance came ten days after Operation Desert Storm

started in the Persian Gulf.

She was already a star, but in that moment she was so much more.

Jordan Runtagh, in a remembrance for People, said,

"armed with no more than a song, Houston galvanized an uncertain nation."

"And the home of the BRAVE!"

Music moves us, and that's a good thing

It's a magical thing when a song, or the performance of a song, can elicit strong enough emotion

to make people cry.

So don't be ashamed as you sit there clutching a handful of soggy tissues.

Those are tissues filled with the magic of gifted songwriting and passionate performance.

Juvenile Fight Club Entertains Prison Guards - Duration: 2:55.

An Ohio juvenile detention center is being taken to court by four former inmates who

say they were forced to participate in organized fights.

Their lawsuit alleges that these brutal and bloody brawls were hosted by detention officers

Freddie Hodges and Joshua Zimmerman, with complacency from others.

Joining me to talk about this is the executive editor of The Trial Lawyer Magazine, Farron

Cousins.

What's the full story with this lawsuit, Farron?

Basically, what these guards at this juvenile detention facility were doing was every Friday

they had what they called fight night.

They would get these juveniles in there, force them to fight, and some of the ones who refuse

to fight, they would then pick the largest inmate there and make that person just go

beat the heck out of whoever refused to actually come down into these fights.

This was a huge ... only two people resigned as a result of this, but there was complacency

among the other guards.

There was complacency among the medical staff who would attend to these and make sure that

nobody had visible bruises or injuries.

In fact, they actually encourage them to hit each other in the bodies, so that other guards

who were not participating wouldn't be able to see the injuries.

So I take it that these two main guards are gone.

Yeah.

I mean, they resigned after the initial investigation.

Okay.

They resigned rather than being prosecuted.

Hopefully, they are going to be prosecuted.

But the rest of the story is it's impossible for the other guards and the other management

people not to have known this is going.

Is that your take on this?

Oh, absolutely.

Look, there are security cameras all over the place.

Tons of people knew about this.

Every inmate there knew about this.

We don't know yet to what extent they tried to warn anyone else, or if they had spoken

out about it.

But that's something we see a lot at juvenile detention facilities is that they do not speak

out about the abuse.

They are children.

They don't know what rights they're entitled to.

In many cases, not just this one, but in others, they get threatened with further retaliation

if they come forward with any evidence of abuse from the guards.

That's why 46 states and Washington D.C., investigations found systemic abuse at juvenile

detention facilities.

Almost all across the country, every place.

Farron, how long was this going on?

That's the first part of the question.

The second part, what alternative really does a juvenile inmate have?

Because if they've been in that situation, there really are no alternatives to them are

there?

Absolutely not.

They have absolutely no power, no authority to say.

And when they did say no, again, the guards would set the largest inmates on them.

This was going on for years.

The guards, in fact, would refer to the good old days, they called them, when they could

have fight nights, and have the medical staff involved to get down there and kind of keep

kids healthy enough to keep fighting.

The good old days is what the guards called it.

Yeah.

Hopefully, somebody goes to jail on this one.

New York Times Spike the Food Supply with Sterilization Chemical - Duration: 11:48.

New York Times Spike the Food Supply with Sterilization Chemicals to Cause Global Infertility

and Depopulation

by Edward Morgan

A November 4, 1969 New York Times feature article authored by Gladwin Hill called for

sterilization chemicals to be added to the food supply in order to achieve globalist

goals of human depopulation.

That article, entitled A Sterility Drug in Food is Hinted came with the byline,

Biologist Stresses Need to Curb Population Growth.

Until the New York Times memory holes the article, you can still find it in the NYT

archives at this link, in fact.

You can also see a partial photo of the NYT article below.

Most people living today especially younger people have no idea that a key agenda

of globalism is the elimination of undesirable humans from the gene pool.

They believe that ideas of eugenics and genocide were only carried out by the

Nazis, not by American university professors and presidential science advisors.

So they have no grasp of the context in which Planned Parenthood, for example, operates

today as a depopulation engine to eliminate blacks from society.

(Planned Parenthoods founder, Margaret Sanger, was a black-hating eugenicist whose

ideas directly inspired the genocidal goals of the Third Reich.)

The New York Times article, shown below, quotes Dr. Paul Ehrlich of Stanford University, a

depopulation advocate, as well as President Richard Nixons chief science adviser, Dr.

Lee DuBridge, who said that population control should be the prime task of every

government.

Compulsory family regulation run by government

In the article, shown below, Dr. Ehrlich laments the fact that biologists believe, compulsory

family regulation will be necessary to retard population growth. In essence, he is arguing

that the government should be in charge of reproductive rights, determining who is allowed

to reproduce and who must be sterilized.

To achieve the sterilization goals, he urged establishing a Federal Population Commission

with a large budget for propaganda, reports the New York Times.

He also called for, the addition of a temporary sterilant to staple food, or to the water

supply in order to cause mandatory infertility.

Dr. Barry Commoner of Washington University in St. Louis added to the discussion:

Can we not invent a way to reduce our population growth rate to zero?

Every human institution school, university, church, family, government and international

agencies such as Unesco should set this as its prime task.

This agenda is already well under way

Most Americans have no awareness that this agenda is well under way.

Flu shots, for example, are now scientifically confirmed to cause spontaneous abortions,

a form of infertility and population control.

This explains exactly why the CDC began pushing for flu shot vaccines during all three trimesters

of gestation in expectant mothers.

Sperm viability is also plummeting across the modern world, according to dozens of published

scientific studies.

One such study conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem found that sperm

concentrations have plummeted more than 50 percent from 1973 to 2011.

According to the abstract of this study as reported in Science Daily:

These findings strongly suggest a significant decline in male reproductive health that has

serious implications beyond fertility and reproduction, given recent evidence linking

poor semen quality with higher risk of hospitalization and death.

Covert vectors for depopulation that are being pursued right now

The depopulation goals from 1969 are in full force in America today.

Some of the vectors for covert sterilization and depopulation now include:

Covert genetic modification of crops to grow RNA interference fragments that nullify male

fertility in humans.

The continued use of toxic mercury in flu shots in order to cause spontaneous abortions

in pregnant women.

Planned Parenthood abortion centers that target minority communities for eugenics cleansing

of the gene pool.

Inoculation of all vaccine recipients with hidden, cancer-causing viruses that are deliberately

allowed to contaminate many vaccines.

(See the SV40 Simian Virus fiascoaffecting 98 million Americans via the polio vaccine.)

(Also, read the book Plague by Judy Mikovitz.)

The planned, deliberate use of cancer-causing ingredients in the popular food supply, including

sodium nitrite in processed meat, inducing widespread cancer and early deaths (the clueless

population then eats itself to death, while enriching the cancer industry).

Spiking public health vaccines with covert sterilization chemicals, exactly as has been

confirmed in African vaccination campaigns that target young black women for sterilization

without their knowledge or consent.

If you do not know that mass sterilization efforts are underway right now to eliminate

human fertility and drastically reduce the global population, then you are not yet well-versed

on reality.

Even Bill Gates openly talks about achieving the correct amount of population reduction

by using vaccines and other vectors, saying:

The world today has 6.8 billion people thats headed up to about 9 billion.

Now if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services,

we could lower that by perhaps 10 or 15 percent.

For the sake of preserving the historical record, we are reprinting the NYT article

here, knowing that they are very likely to attempt to memory hole this article in another

swipe at Orwellian-style revisionist history.

A STERILITY DRUG IN FOOD IS HINTED

Biologist Stresses Need to Curb Population Growth

By GLADWIN HILL Special to The New York Times

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 24 A possibility that the government might have to put sterility

drugs in reservoirs and in food shipped to foreign countries to limit human multiplication

was envisioned today by a leading crusader on the population problem.

The crusader, Dr. Paul Ehrlich of Stanford University, among a number of commentators

who called attention to the population crisis as the United States Commission

for Unesco opened it 13th national conference here today.

Unesco is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The 100-member commission, appointed by the Secretary of State, included representatives

of Government, outside organizations, and the public.

Some 500 conservationists and others are attending the two-day meeting at the St. Francis Hotel,

devoted this year to environmental problems.

President Nixons chief science adviser, Dr. Lee DuBridge, brought up the population

question in his keynote speech last night, calling the reduction of the earths population

growth rate to zero the first great challenge of our time.

Godfrey a Speaker

His comments went beyond recent statements of President Nixon, who in a message to Congress

stressed the provision of birth control information to underprivileged women.

But the Federal Governments willingness to come to grips with population limitation

was questioned by another speaker, Arthur Godfrey, radio-television star and a conservation

campaigner.

Dr. DuBridge rightly said that population control should be the prime task of every

government, he said.

But is there anyone here anyone who thinks that this Administration, or the next

of the next, will act with the kind of force thats necessary?

Dr. Erlich, who is a biologist said:

Our first move must be to convince all those we can that the planet Earth must be

viewed as a spaceship of limited carrying capacity.

I think that 150 million people (50 million fewer that there are now) would be an optimum

number to live comfortably in the United States.

Alternative to Armageddon

Some biologists feel that compulsory family regulation will be necessary to retard population

growth.

It is a dismal prospect except when viewed as an alternative to Armageddon.

He urged establishing a Federal Population Commission with a large budget for propaganda,

changing tax laws to discourage reproduction and instituting mandatory birth control instruction

in public schools.

He also urged changing the pattern of Federal support of biomedical research so that the

majority of it goes into the broad areas of population regulation, environment sciences,

behavior sciences and related areas rather than into short-sighted programs on death

control.

If such steps are unavailing, he continued, the nation might resort to the addition

of a temporary sterilant to staple food, or to the water supply, with limited distribution

of antidote chemicals, perhaps by lottery.

Although it might seem that such a program could be started by doctoring foods sent to

underdeveloped countries, he said, the solution does not lie in that direction

because other people already are suspicious of our motives.

Economic Pressure Urged

Rather, he suggested, the United States should stop economic aid to countries that do not

try to limit their populations.

Dr. Barry Commoner of St. Louis, Washington University ecologist, in an ensuing discussion

period differed with Dr. Ehrlich.

He said that he thought the urge to multiply was rooted in the sense of insecurity.

And that the better way to reduce reproduction was by increasing the well-being of peoples.

He also opposed chemical strategems on the ground that every technological trick like

that weve tried has caused disaster.

Recapitulating the environmental problems stemming from population, Dr. Dubridge said:

Do we need more people on the earth?

We all know the answer to that is no.

Do we have to have more people?

Also no.

Can we reverse the urges of a billion years of evolving life?

We can.

We know techniques for reducing fertility.

We are not fully utilizing them.

Citing a widespread attitude, he said: We have the right to have as many children as

we can afford, we say.

Do we, today?

No.

Can we not invent a way to reduce our population growth rate to zero?

Every human institution school, university, church, family, government and international

agencies such as Unesco should set this as its prime task.

Never met her in my life.

And you never paid her any money?

I never gave her a dollar.

But-

Except that I gave her a cool shirt.

So, you know, this is like-- when stuff like this happens

it's like selling a million shirts to me.

Now, you know, you get all these people of value

that respond to your-- to what you're doing to your brand,

and they start wearing it,

and they start getting photographed--

it's priceless.

It's forced me to, like, really go after it,

and turn this brand into something more than just a hobby, you know,

out of the back of my trunk or the back of my garage.

Staying Plugged In - Duration: 4:54.

Welcome back to Beyond the Pew. My name is Matt Rice, and we're continuing with

our series on teens and technology. And while this video is going to be a bit

about technology, it's gonna be a kind of a play on the word of being plugged in.

We want you to be plugged in with your child. We want you to be plugged in with

your youth. And yes, some of this absolutely because of where we live or

how we live these days is definitely connected to technology. A lot of it

isn't though. A lot of it is plugging it as a parent into their daily life,

into their sports, into their school. But first on the technology bit actually our

photographer that's here today, he said one of the things he does as a parent is

he follows his kids on every single social media outlet that they're on. And

that's a really good way for a parent to stay plugged in because sometimes your

kids come home and you say how was your day and they won't say a single word. But

you hop on Instagram and you see a photo of them with a friend that you haven't

seen them with in a long time, and you can ask them, "Oh! Hey, how's that friend

doing?" Where you might not have had that conversation point at another time

without that photo. So stay plugged into their social media accounts.

Honestly stay plugged into them with their video games. I know this is

kind of dorky and maybe it's because I like to play video games, but I think

it'd be a lot of fun at least I think it would be, if you ask your kid, "Hey,

what video game are you playing now? You want to teach me how to play it?"

Because parents playing video games sometimes looks pretty silly, and I think

the kids could have a lot of fun with that.

So stay plugged in with your kids in that way and other ways to stay plugged

in with your kids is in their sports, going to their events. Of course I know

that sounds like almost stupid to mention, but a lot of parents don't

realize how valuable that is, even if they're sitting on the bench, even if

they're you know second string, being there and being present and again being

their biggest fan connects you to them. So why is all this important? Why is

being plugged into their life important? Your goal as a parent in a

certain way is to help them grow up, to be productive adults that you enjoy

to be around. That's actually a definition that Trey Cashion and Stephanie

Cashion over at the Mystery of Parenthood used when they talk about raising their

kids. And if they want to raise kids that they

enjoy being around as adults. Another reason that you want to be plugged in

with your kid and what's going on in their life, is you want to be able to

know who they are, so that you can sense changes because sometimes things will

happen in their life that you don't know what happened, whether it's an abuse

situation or if it's bullying, and if you don't know who they are as a person, if

you don't know their personality, it's gonna be a lot harder for you to sense

the change in them when they react to that. So as parents we want to love our

kids as best we can, and the best way to do that is to stay plugged

in their lives and know what's going on in their life so you notice the changes

in them, and you can address them as they come up. One of the reasons to stay

plugged in with your kids and to do their hobbies with them, go to their

sports with them, is that these become so natural, so normal that other

conversations happen around them. So let's say your kid loves to

throw the frisbee or go play frisbee golf or is on a sports

team, the ride to and from there becomes actually a natural place for

conversation to happen. Or while you're playing the sport, while you're

participating in whatever it is, conversation can naturally happen. And

it's not an awkward, kind of forced conversation. You're actually enjoying

each other's company, and at that same time, you're sharing your lives with each

other, and it's in its natural state, because a lot of times, when you sit a

kid down and ask them how their life's going, they draw a blank just like we do.

But if you're doing something with them, if you're participating in something

with them, then all the walls are down, and their life just comes out.

Another way for parents to naturally stay plugged in with their kids is,

and I hate to say it, no no I don't hate to say it, this is the shameless

plug for youth ministers all around the world, they need you. They need you to

volunteer in their programs. And if you volunteer in the middle school program,

the high school program, where your kid is, you can ask them not to be in

their small group, that's perfectly fine. But you get plugged into that age group,

you know what's going on in their lives, and you get to see what's actually

taught at the class because the kids aren't gonna necessarily tell you when

they get home. Other natural ways to get plugged in is volunteering to coach

their sports teams, to assistant coach on those teams. Our prayer from Beyond the

Pew is that you do something concrete to invest in, to plug into the

life of your young person, so that you get to know them and just love on them.

God bless
