Waching daily Oct 5 2017

Members of a remote tribe from the Amazon were murdered, according to the Brazilian

agency on indigenous affairs.

In an audio recording obtained by the agency, gold miners bragged about the massacre at

a bar near Colombian borders, saying it was a kill or be killed situation.

Joining me now to talk about this is RT correspondent Simone Del Rosario.

Let me ask you this.

First of all, what's the full story in this case, and how has it developed so far, Simone?

Where do you see this?

Well, Mike, Brazilian authorities are investigating reports, like you said, of a massacre up to

10 people that are from an isolated tribe in the Amazon, and this massacre was allegedly

carried out by illegal gold miners in the area.

This happened in the Javari Valley, which is the second largest indigenous reserve in

Brazil, and it allegedly took place in August.

Now, authorities only learned about it after these miners were caught bragging about it

a bar.

They spoke about cutting up these people's bodies, throwing them in the river.

The men also had a handmade paddle and a small bag that these tribesmen used for carrying

food, and these gold miners claimed they took it from their victims.

According to a government coordinator, there's a lot of evidence here, but this case still

needs to be proven.

A prosecutor did confirm the investigation is going on, but we're talking about a territory

that is vast.

The access to it is extremely limited.

Now, because these tribes are uncontacted, you can't just swoop in and investigate, bring

all of your law enforcement and authorities into this situation.

It's a very precarious situation.

It's going to require heavy involvement from Brazil's agency on indigenous affairs, FUNAI,

and as they work together with law enforcement to figure out if they can come up with these

bodies to prove this alleged massacre.

Simone, is this a first of its kind, or is this becoming a pattern that we're seeing

down there?

Well, according to the prosecutor in the region, this is the second case that he's seen this

year, and before that, he had never seen a case in this region before.

The first case that he saw happened in February of killing of uncontact indigenous people,

but just because he hasn't investigated cases before doesn't mean it hasn't happened elsewhere

in the country and in South America.

Earlier this summer, the UN warned that indigenous people in Brazil are specifically at risk.

They noted the country has seen the highest offenders of any country in the world over

the past 15 years.

They were averaging one murder a week, and then you have your recent figures.

They're even more startling.

According to Land Pastoral Commission, because of land disputes, more than 50 people have

been killed this year from January through July.

That's compared with 61 all of 2016.

That's indigenous groups, rural workers, and land activists that are being targeted here,

and usually it is from these illegal gold miners or loggers, though in some cases police

and the government are to blame for the violence.

Simone, you've reported, you've seen these cases firsthand, reported on them, basically,

these types of cases in a lot of places around the globe.

I'm wondering about this.

Brazil's President Michel Temer, he's getting a lot of heat for this incident.

Why are they blaming his government?

What are the grounds for pointing the finger at his direction, especially in this case?

Again, I say you've probably seen similar situations in other cases that you've followed

around the globe, but this is an interesting twist, let's blame the government rather than

the people who carried out the murder.

What's your take on this?

Well, people are starting to see a trend here, and they're making these connections.

A lot of people are making the connection to Temer's administration.

Now, the reason that could be is because FUNAI's funding, the group that oversees this, it's

been slashed, the agency on indigenous affairs.

Now, FUNAI was forced to close five of 19 bases that they use to monitor and protect

these isolated tribes, and then in the bases where they didn't have to close them, they

had to reduce the staffing.

Now, three of the closed bases of the five were in the Javari Valley, which is exactly

where this alleged massacre took place, and it's also home to 20% of the country's uncontacted

tribes.

To give you a picture of the slashed funding, in 2014, this group had a $2.4 million budget.

Now their budget is less than $650,000, and the director's saying, 'What do I do with

$650,000 to take care of all of these isolated tribes?'

On top of that, aside from just slashing funding, Temer is taking cover because of a corruption

scandal, something that we've been covering a lot of in Brazil, and he's doing so with

the help of the agriculture, ranching, and mining lobbies, and he's using them to be

able to push through economic reforms in Brazil, but to kind of pay them back, he's been making

policy changes that are really impacting deforestation and land rights happening in Brazil.

He also tried opening up a large reserve in the Amazon to mining.

Now, the judge blocked that, but mining and logging here are really the biggest threats

to indigenous communities right now, and as the president is trying to allow them into

this land, the constitution protects this land for these tribes that have been here

for longer than we can even imagine.

You know, Professors Robert Walker, I think, and Kim Hill coauthored articles that promoted

the need for controlled contact with these kinds of tribes, these remote tribes, they

believe to prevent incidents like what happened here.

What are they advocating, and what is your take on what they're advocating, Simone?

Well, Mike, according to Walker and Hill, this no-contact approach is not sustainable,

and actually they speculated that massacres like this alleged case would happen without

a controlled, peaceful contact.

In one paper the professors coauthored in 2015, they wrote that by refusing authorized,

well-planned contacts, governments are simply guaranteeing that accidental and disastrous

contacts will take place instead, and then this month, Professor Hill telling America's

lawyer that unfortunately, that speculation came true.

What they're advocating is that the governments initiate contact only after conceiving a very

well-organized plan.

I mean, previously, there's been poorly-planned contacts that have had devastating effects,

especially for these tribes, including death.

They need healthcare professionals and round-the-clock monitoring for more than a year after these

people were to give contact, so that's medical supplies and also food.

We're talking about really vulnerable populations.

They have no immunity to present-day diseases and infections.

They have not been affected by this yet.

In the '70s and '80s, there were a lot more contacts that was made with these tribes,

and that's when the population really suffered and the numbers of those populations were

slashed, so according to the professors, it has to be an incredibly orchestrated effort,

but they believe that isolated populations are not viable in the long-term, particularly

as their lands continue to be encroached on, as we're seeing happen now.

You know, Simone, you've got great experience down in this part of the world.

What do you think?

How does this end?

I mean, these tribal members were massacred, the worst kind of massacre, and so we're saying

this investigation is going to cure this?

How many times have you seen in third-world kinds of countries where there's been any

justice?

What is your personal take on whether there's going to be justice here, Simone?

Well, I can tell you this prosecutor that now has two cases, the ability for them to

be able to solve it is going to be very hard.

That first case they've been working on since February, and now we have a new case that

goes back to August, and it's taking miles and miles by boat even to get into these areas,

so it's a very challenging position, and the opinions on what is best for these tribes

really vary.

The UN and Brazil are on a no-contact approach, unlike what these professors are advocating

for, and it really depends on how you want to approach the situation, but there's arguments

for and against both.

The ability to get justice is going to be a little bit hard.

The fact that these miners were bragging about it might make it a little bit easier to track

them down eventually, but as long as you keep seeing the illegal activity happening in the

Amazon, and as long as outsiders can keep coming in and using this land for their benefit

and not paying respect to the people that live there and have their own way of life,

you're going to continue to see this happen.

It's probably going to be increasing, Mike.

Simone Del Rosario, thank you for joining me.

Thank you for being out there covering stories like this.

Trying Expensive vs Homemade Dog Toys - Duration: 7:55.

Hey Everybody

Welcome to another video where I do whatever I want

And today, i wanna test out expensive dog products

versus homemade

They're toys, not products. Well they're both

before we begin, this is my merch

Can you see it? It says Ballinger 91

go to my website, links below, and that will direct you to my merch shop if you guys want this

They're super comfortable. And it makes it look like you maybe care about sport!

But anyway! I've spent a lot of money on toys for my dog

And then he eats them, or destroys them in 5 seconds

And then I saw these homemade ones I could do, and I was like, are they really better than the ones I spend money on?

So we're gonna test it

I bought 3 toys, that were highly rated and stupidly priced

And I'm going to make 3 toys

And see which ones he likes better

He's currently trying to get at the ones I'm holding

Ready? Let's begin

Okay so this one, is a feeder

It's supposed to... he is staring at it

you have a booger, get your booger out. Stop having a booger

you put the food in here, then they have to like pat it

And then theres little holes on both sides

And the foods whoots out of it and that's how they get their food

Also there is this annoying bell on top

Great!

He has a ball, that's kind of similar. But we're gonna test this one and see if he likes it

It's supposed to help them not be bored

So it takes them a long time to get their food out

So they're distracted and entertained while also getting fed

I didn't invent it, don't ask me

Okay I don't know how to open this

Oh! I did it

Alright, it's got food in it

So let's see how he likes this

Alright Blaze, Oh he did it!

Good job! Hit it again

Good job! There ya go! There's some food

Good job buddy

Oh! Thanks for the butt. Thanks for the butt

That's basically the same concept as his ball, that has two holes and he spends it around

And I thought, why can't you do the same thing with a water bottle with some holes cut in it?

Also, a good toy is apparently you stick a water bottle in a sock

And they just chew that. But then you're teaching your dog to eat a sock and water bottles

I don't know

Alright so I got a thick water bottle and I've cut 3 holes in it

The size of dog food

And I'm gonna fill it with some food, and then he's just gotta push it around like all the other toys and get his food out

I've discovered a flaw though, the hole is quite small to get all the food into

Oh, I'm already spilling

So now, lid it up

And teach him how to use it

roll it

There's already a flaw in my system

It doesn't roll very well

No not like that, like this

Like that!!

Don't lick the holes! Push it!

There ya go!

There you go!

It went over there

Oh see there ya go. You're getting the hang of it now

See my version is just more challenging than the balls and the little half balls

Mines for a smarter dog

That's all it is

uhhh it's been about 10 minutes, and I came back out here

And he has destroyed this toy already

oh goodness

I think it still works, just the bell needs to be taken out now

Alright now this

stick. It's really hard to get a view

You untie this and it's basically a stick with a rope attached

And then there's a thing at the end

And you go back and forth and he tries to eat it

Let's see if he wants to play with this

You're sniffing a light bulb. That has to be hot

You wanna play with this? You wanna play with this? Maybe a little bit?

Okay Blaze, you wanna play with this toy?

Play with the toy

play with it

Oh, there ya go

Oh my God he's strong

This thing is dangerous

I don't get the point of this

This is not fun

I just wanna know...

What I'm supposed to be doing here

And why this is fun for anybody

I mean, can't you just do the same thing with a rope?

Come here! I guess it is...

pretty durable

this is such a stretchy rope

ow. Gah! It keeps hitting me

I got a big one!

Reel it in, there it is

He will not let go of this thing

I think maybe, if I had a dog that wasn't as strong as a Pitbull

It wouldn't be so jarring and difficult

And like I'm reeling in a shark

Got it!

So he jumps more for the hose

but this he can chew on I guess

I don't knwo

Alright, the last expensive product we have

is this one

I know there's a cat on the box!

Do not eat my wreath! NO!

Not in a million years are you allowed to eat my wreath

Good boy.

Anyway, I know there's a cat on the box, but it said for dogs or cats

it's a laser thing? What is it?

*burp*

Automatic hands free play for all cats

Okay! this is already lying to me because on Amazon it said for cats and dogs

It's this laser that just shoots around and they follow it

Dogs like lasers too, I've played with lasers with him before

So hopefully he likes this one as well because this one was $30

Stop licking the blanket. You are so weird

Okay. Ready?

no. Look at the laser

Stop! No. Don't eat this! Look at the laser!

Look at the laser!

Look at the laser. Look at the laser. Look at the light

Look at the light. Follow the light

Are... Are you hiding from it? Where are you going?

Play with this laser! l spent $30 on this laser. Don't make me give it to Gus

No, don't. You don't need your bone right now

You need to get the laser

Why is this also the loudest toy on earth?

Like obviously any animal is going to be scared of that noise

And be more concerned about the noise than the laser

Let's try this again

I know that's supposed to be, for like, people who don't wanna play

But like, just a regular laser pointer is so much cheaper

No don't eat that!

There ya go! Good boy!

Don't figure out that it's coming from my hand

Look at the ground

He knows it's coming from this

But I will say, this captured his attention more, and scared him less

I know this isn't homemade or whatever but like...

All growing up, we had theser in our house

This is just more common than that thing and this costs like what? $5?!

Alright so that's it for today! I hope you guys liked this

Obviously he liked what he liked and that's everything. He likes to eat everything

I have a chewer, eater, destroyer

Destroyer of hearts! Eh-ooooo!

Get it? Cause he's like a cutie? With a little booty!

Where are you? Show them your butt. You're sleeping. Okay

What Most People Don't Know About John Cena - Duration: 5:04.

WWE champion John Cena is the undisputed face of modern professional wrestling. And with

a growing film career, Cena is steadily turning wrestling fame into Hollywood gold as well.

But the road to triumph wasn't easy for Cena. The superstar champ worked and hustled his

way into show business after experiencing some surprising setbacks in the start of his

career. Here's a look back at John Cena's tough journey to the top.

Childhood bullying

Although you'd be hardpressed to find someone who'd pick on Cena now, as a kid he was on

the receiving end of some serious bullying.

"I remember the walk to the school bus, at the very least five times, shoved down."

In his younger years, he was relatively scrawny, so he started to pack on some muscle as a

means of defending himself from his attackers.

"By the time I showed up at high school, I was big. The guys who were pushing me down

in high school were kinda like, 'we cool?'"

Sports selection

While growing up in Massachusetts, Cena's father was a huge fan of professional wrestling

and he loved taking his sons to see WWF matches in the "cheap seats" at Boston Garden. But

while Cena enjoyed watching the greats and reenacting their moves like a lot of young

boys growing up in the '80s, he told the Huffington Post that he was actually more interested

in "proving himself on the baseball diamond or football field than in the wrestling ring."

Despite the fact that he'd become a WWE giant in later years, he wasn't big enough for the

professional gridiron. So he set his sights on California where he unfortunately learned

that there were way more careers than football that weren't the best fit.

Odd jobs

After graduating with a bachelor's in exercise physiology, Cena headed to Santa Monica at

21 years old to be around the bodybuilding scene in Venice Beach and also to prove himself

to his father — who'd said he wouldn't last on his own for longer than two weeks.

He told ABC News, "I left with 500 bucks and an Army duffle bag, and hit ground in Santa

Monica and just started working. No career, just working a job to make money to stay out

there to spite my father and the jobs were taking me nowhere."

In addition to trying to make it as a limo driver and failing the highway patrol exam,

he picked up a position as a bar bouncer.

"Early twenties and I was a d**k."

"I'm sitting at the front door in a Hawaiian shirt that's six sizes too small and a blonde

mohawk just like this"

Perhaps the strangest gig Cena found himself doing to make ends meet was his brief stint

as a competitive eater.

He explained, "I'm a Zeppy's pizza-eating champion. [...] I was broke and didn't have

any food, and they had a promotion, they had really thick dish pizza, if you ate a whole

pizza, you'd get the pizza free. So, I went in there on a lunch break and crushed a pizza

in about 20 minutes and the [pizza parlor] guy's face dropped. He didn't realize that

I was broke and hungry, so I went back the next day and did the same thing. Finally,

he pulled me over and he's like, 'Man, I kind of know what you're doing. Just stop by for

a free slice any time you want.'"

Near-enlistment

This next part of Cena's early history can be a controversial topic for some wrestling

fans and veterans. To promote his 2006 movie, The Marine, Cena began incorporating dog tags

and military elements into his WWE uniform and entrances, making fans question for years

what branch Cena served in. The answer is none.

However, he did say he almost joined the Marines while struggling to make it in California.

He explained, "I just thought because, of all the service branches, it kind of exemplified

who I was as a 22-year-old. You think you're bulletproof, and you can handle any sort of

resistance put in front of you, and you're gungho to the hilt."

But according to Cena, the very same weekend he made the decision to enlist, a chance encounter

changed his life forever.

Toilet to Tinseltown

Cena landed a job at a Gold's Gym cleaning toilets while living out of his car. Despite

working his way up and even starring in a commercial for the Gold's Gym franchise, Cena

was about to enlist in the Marines — until fate stepped in.

A patron of the gym overheard him discussing wrestling. Since he was training to become

a wrestler himself, he made Cena the offer to train with him. Cena told ABC News, "I

was already up to my eyeballs in debt, but I leveraged every credit card I had… paid

a promoter out in southern California, and learned the trade. Had we never had that conversation,

I would have probably been honorably discharged or medically discharged from the Marines."

And with that, a star was born …

Cena still had to work his way through the ranks at the WWE, but while Vince McMahon

wasn't sold on him right away, his daughter Stephanie McMahon saw some serious potential

in the budding wrestler. She gave him the gig that would become a superstar career.

The rest is wrestling history.

Tell Me About: A5 Stream Bidet Toilet Seat - Duration: 4:38.

That right there is about a sleek a design as you'll ever get.

That's our A5 from Bio Bidet.

You stay tuned, I'm going to tell you all about it.

Greetings Bio Bidet fans, this is Alan your media and marketing executive at Bio Bidet

coming at you with another great Tell Me About.

Today's Tell Me About is on our A5 Stream bidet.

So here's the A5 Stream bidet, as you can see, very very sleek, stylish design.

Very compact.

It has a slow close lid as well as seat.

As you can see on the underside here the two spray nozzles for the bidet function.

So this bidet, unlike some of our other bidets attachments would replace your current toilet

seat and lid.

This is going to be hooking up to your cold water source.

So the common toilet supply line is going to be able to hook directly to this with a

T adapter.

It operates very very simply.

Dunno if we can zoom in on this right here, this has a lever and it's going to have two

different directions you can put it.

One towards your feminine wash via the feminine nozzle and the other direction towards your

posterior wash.

Having it set in the middle here is off.

Dialing it ever so slightly is going to increase your pressure towards either of the functions.

So this is full blast posterior and this would be like half posterior.

The A5 Stream is going to attach onto your toilet a little bit differently than some

of our other no-electric attachable bidets.

Let's flip this over to the backside here.

As you see it has a large rectangular section here that is going to be locked onto a catch

plate.

As you can see it has the word "FRONT" on it so you know how to place it onto your toilet,

and then you simply slide this unit into it.

So you would have this catch plate installed already and you would slide your bidet on

to the catch plate.

Make sure not to tighten the bolts all the way down immediately.

Position the catch plate, place the bolts down and then lightly tighten the nuts so

you can also position the catch plate back and forth several times before you attach

the bidet on.

Once you snap the bidet into place you can still position it one last time to make sure

you have a good fit around the rim of the toilet before finally tightening the bidet

all the way down.

So this bidet is going to come with a set of plastic bolts as well as a metal locking

bracket.

These are to be used when installing the catch plate on to your toilet.

Simply put the bolt through the metal bracket, slide that down through the catch plate.

On the underside you will tighten the nut down to secure the catch plate to the bidet.

On the right hand side of the A5 Stream you have a catch plate release button.

When you slide your unit onto the catch plate it's going to lock and this button is going

to press out.

In order to release your bidet unit from the catch plate you press and hold this this will

release these little locking mechanisms that are moving and you can remove the bidet.

What's also included in your hardware kit is some top mount bolts.

If you have a toilet that has smooth sides or does not have bolts that go all the way

through to the other side to tighten it down, you can use these instead.

I have a specific video that shows just how to install these.

The link for the is going to be in the description.

You also have your bidet supply line, Again, one side here is going to have your funky

little "L'" angle on it and this is the side that secures to the bidet and this is the

side that secures to your T adapter.

The T adapter that comes with this unit is 7/8" at the top, 7/8" at the bottom and 3/8"

compression thread for the branch piece.

That means the location of this is going to be install onto your toilet's fill valve.

These are going to come with a single, cone-shaped washer.

This is going to be inserted in here with the cone face facing up.

Just like with all of our bidets if any of the attachments, the T adapters, the supply

lines anywhere seem to be having any kind of leaks you can always use thread paste tape

or compound on any of those threads.

Well honestly that's about it for the A5 it's a simple non0electric bidet but it's at a

very great price, $99 on biobidet.com As always like, comment, subscribe, links are in the

description for any supporting material and as always I'll see you never time.

We are located on 11-mile corner which is about 60 miles south of here, 11 miles east

of Casa Grande, 11 miles north of Eloy, 11 mile s south of Coolidge.

Have been farming for 6 generations of my family and we are pretty much in the same location.

I've been selling at this market since 2005.

Coming from a small town, you don't see a lot of people.

I get to see different cultures, different people.

People watch.

The program has helped us considerably so far.

We've noticed an uptake in our sales since that.

Right now, we are big into our okra season.

And we are picking lots and lots of okra, we still have beets left, green onions, leeks,

apples and the list goes on for quiet bit.

I like cooking okra rellenos I call it.

It is where I slice them, stuff them with cheese and jalapeno bits, you do them with

egg wash, cornmeal and roast them.

400 degrees for 40 minutes.

Okra rellenos.

Staying Plugged In - Duration: 4:54.

Welcome back to Beyond the Pew. My name is Matt Rice, and we're continuing with

our series on teens and technology. And while this video is going to be a bit

about technology, it's gonna be a kind of a play on the word of being plugged in.

We want you to be plugged in with your child. We want you to be plugged in with

your youth. And yes, some of this absolutely because of where we live or

how we live these days is definitely connected to technology. A lot of it

isn't though. A lot of it is plugging it as a parent into their daily life,

into their sports, into their school. But first on the technology bit actually our

photographer that's here today, he said one of the things he does as a parent is

he follows his kids on every single social media outlet that they're on. And

that's a really good way for a parent to stay plugged in because sometimes your

kids come home and you say how was your day and they won't say a single word. But

you hop on Instagram and you see a photo of them with a friend that you haven't

seen them with in a long time, and you can ask them, "Oh! Hey, how's that friend

doing?" Where you might not have had that conversation point at another time

without that photo. So stay plugged into their social media accounts.

Honestly stay plugged into them with their video games. I know this is

kind of dorky and maybe it's because I like to play video games, but I think

it'd be a lot of fun at least I think it would be, if you ask your kid, "Hey,

what video game are you playing now? You want to teach me how to play it?"

Because parents playing video games sometimes looks pretty silly, and I think

the kids could have a lot of fun with that.

So stay plugged in with your kids in that way and other ways to stay plugged

in with your kids is in their sports, going to their events. Of course I know

that sounds like almost stupid to mention, but a lot of parents don't

realize how valuable that is, even if they're sitting on the bench, even if

they're you know second string, being there and being present and again being

their biggest fan connects you to them. So why is all this important? Why is

being plugged into their life important? Your goal as a parent in a

certain way is to help them grow up, to be productive adults that you enjoy

to be around. That's actually a definition that Trey Cashion and Stephanie

Cashion over at the Mystery of Parenthood used when they talk about raising their

kids. And if they want to raise kids that they

enjoy being around as adults. Another reason that you want to be plugged in

with your kid and what's going on in their life, is you want to be able to

know who they are, so that you can sense changes because sometimes things will

happen in their life that you don't know what happened, whether it's an abuse

situation or if it's bullying, and if you don't know who they are as a person, if

you don't know their personality, it's gonna be a lot harder for you to sense

the change in them when they react to that. So as parents we want to love our

kids as best we can, and the best way to do that is to stay plugged

in their lives and know what's going on in their life so you notice the changes

in them, and you can address them as they come up. One of the reasons to stay

plugged in with your kids and to do their hobbies with them, go to their

sports with them, is that these become so natural, so normal that other

conversations happen around them. So let's say your kid loves to

throw the frisbee or go play frisbee golf or is on a sports

team, the ride to and from there becomes actually a natural place for

conversation to happen. Or while you're playing the sport, while you're

participating in whatever it is, conversation can naturally happen. And

it's not an awkward, kind of forced conversation. You're actually enjoying

each other's company, and at that same time, you're sharing your lives with each

other, and it's in its natural state, because a lot of times, when you sit a

kid down and ask them how their life's going, they draw a blank just like we do.

But if you're doing something with them, if you're participating in something

with them, then all the walls are down, and their life just comes out.

Another way for parents to naturally stay plugged in with their kids is,

and I hate to say it, no no I don't hate to say it, this is the shameless

plug for youth ministers all around the world, they need you. They need you to

volunteer in their programs. And if you volunteer in the middle school program,

the high school program, where your kid is, you can ask them not to be in

their small group, that's perfectly fine. But you get plugged into that age group,

you know what's going on in their lives, and you get to see what's actually

taught at the class because the kids aren't gonna necessarily tell you when

they get home. Other natural ways to get plugged in is volunteering to coach

their sports teams, to assistant coach on those teams. Our prayer from Beyond the

Pew is that you do something concrete to invest in, to plug into the

life of your young person, so that you get to know them and just love on them.

God bless

Marimekko Meet the Designers - Design Process - Duration: 1:52.

Minna: And we start our collection work as a creative brief,

which gives it a goal and direction, visual direction, for the collection.

More than 3,500 patterns already

we select for different collections, couple of prints from there.

But then, at the same time we are asking print designers to create something new.

Sami: As a designer it's always a really interesting day when you get the design brief.

Minna: Because we are a lifestyle brand,

we have all those categories: home, ready-to-wear, and accessories.

Sami: And it's a really natural way to start this collaboration

and working together match the patterns with the products.

And then, of course, since we have also the printing mill in the same building.

So, it's really part of the doing things together that we can always,

whenever we meet, we can go on that side, on the factory side. We can discuss with persons there.

They have so amazing knowledge of everything that they're going to help us in.

Minna: If you don't find the perfect colors in some reference.

It could be some plants or even stone or piece of wood or whatever.

Take that and go to the colour kitchen and ask for the special tone to fix the color off set.

You would like to have exactly that tone today and for that collection.

That tells quite a lot about the way how we do things here together.

A lot of creative people trying to find the best way to do things together.

We find the perfect goal for everybody, then something like this can happen.

Marimekko Meet the Designers - History of Marimekko - Duration: 1:07.

Minna : Marimekko is the first lifestyle brand in

world, founded 1951 by really visionary woman Armi Ratia. Her dream was bring the joy for

the people everyday life, through dress idea, floral prints, and vibrant colors.

Sami: The way how she did it was quite unique, she went to art schools and different places.

She gather together a group of young female artists they were ceramist, and ladies from

different fields of art and they ... she wanted them to do something else.

If you have been just her normal textile designer maybe their result would have been the same,

but somehow it was something more.

She gave them free hands to do something totally different.

About the Cochlear Implant - Duration: 15:03.

Hi everyone welcome back to my youtube channel so today I wanted to talk about

Cochlear implants so if you guys know me, or if you're new to my channel

Then you should know that I have a cochlear implant on my right ear

I was born profoundly deaf

And I got this cochlear implant when I was two and a half years old the reason why I wanted to talk about this

It's because

Not many people out there who are famous or well-known have cochlear implants. There's my friend jazzy

She also has a YouTube channel. I will put her link at the bottom of this and

I hope you guys go and follow her cuz she's really really awesome and

You guys would like her she's more of a beauty blogger so if you're into beauty and stuff you should go follow her

anyways

besides

Jazzy, and I think there's few other

People with cochlear implants on YouTube, there's not that many people out there. Yes, there's deaf people

There's lots of deaf people and there's people who do ASL

And there's people who do BSL and there's people who don't do the ASL or BSL and

We just for cochlear implants to communicate and so I want to be that kind of person that people can look up to

so I

Decided that I want to educate people on cochlear implants because not many people know about it

And I don't expect people to know about cochlear implants. It's not something

That's well-known and talked about so I want to say thank you for watching this and please don't forget to Like and subscribe

Because that will make me so happy and please comment below

What you guys want to see for me because that's really awesome, and I know what to film because you guys want that

And I will put a link to my Instagram my snapchat

and

Let's go into the video. We're gonna start with a definition of a cochlear implant, so

cochlear implant is

Electronic device that is surgically implanted into the inner ear

And it provides

sound simulations to the hearing nerve with just an eighth nerve in your head by the way and

It gives a person with no hearing

sensations of hearing

People with severe to profound hearing loss, which I'm in that range

Who cannot hear with hearing aids are

most likely required to have cochlear implants and we

Are proper candidates for it because we have no hearing whatsoever

Like hearing aids who amplified the sound cochlear implant are like mini computers that sit on our ears and

They provide the electrical impulses to the damaged part of the inner ear which is the

Cochlea most likely for most people and it will provide sound signals to the brain. I'll show you guys

What a cochlear implant looks like?

Now we can go into the history of cochlear implants, so

Man that goes by dr. William F

House who was born in Kansas City and raised in Witter

California was a dentist who turned into ear specialist when he took an interest in his family's business

For research he wanted to somehow

stimulate

hearing for a deaf person

so he thought it would be a

Right idea to do it with you electric sound

He was heavily criticized by

Other surgeons and doctors, and they all thought that he was crazy. He officially invented the cochlear implant in

1961 he had put the electrical metal into the patient's

Cochlea, but the body rejected that it became successful in 1969

When the longer-lasting model was successfully developed and the patient's body didn't reject it

It was introduced to the world completely in

1972 by Graham Clark an Australian doctor invented the bionic ear

It's a multiple channel cochlear implant in

1981 and that's how I really know about the history there's

Wikipedia and whatnot, but that's just a small part of the history of when it was invented and who is invented by

Now I'm going to the degree of hearing loss, so

Everyone with the hearing loss have different degrees of hearing loss a person who is an audiologist

Checks everyone's hearing and oh and check deaf people is hearing to see the amount of

Hearing loss that they have so a audiologist would sit in a sound booth and

they would test the individual's hearing the audiologist would mark how you hear on a chart and

it's called the audiogram it tells you how you hear different sounds and

Speeches at different pitches and loudness levels, so those are the two main things loudness

pitch

Hearing is measured by decibel levels which is dBHL

Right there remember this and the number represents the softest sound

Someone can the lower the number is the better you can hear quieter sounds I'm going to start with

normal hearing yeah, so you have 20 decibels and

Lower, so you can hear super quiet sound then the mild hearing loss is from 25 to 39 decibels

so this person

tends to struggle following speech and noisy situations, then a moderate hearing loss

where Hearing Aids are approved at this rate are

40 to 69 decibels

So this person would struggle falling speech without hearing aids

There's a severe hearing loss, which at this rate. You can be certified for a cochlear implant

Which is it's a possibility?

But you could be from 70 to 89 decibels so this person typically struggles

Hearing and this person would need a really really strong hearing aid in order to hear those things um

Almost those don't work bender qualified for a cochlear implant a person profound hearing loss you

Definitely can get a cochlear implant

It's from 90 decibels and up

So a person would rely on lip-reading or ASL without a cochlear implant

I'm definitely in the 90s, and up so there's the audiogram

so

People with normal hearing are in this section you have no

your normal

So this is mild right here, so you can see the 40 so the 20th up is normal hearing

See the smaller your numbers. Here are the better you can hear. This is called the speech

the beach

Wave you think and so this is for letter I with Stan for and

Pitches are from low to high here and from quiet to loud

So I it's a very low pitch

where as

Ths are very high pitch and a quieter on this chart because they're on you're higher up

First the lowest one. I think it's ng or L and rs

Because they're low and you're louder to pronounce the moderate hearing loss

this being this degree here and

Remember, this is low pitches. These are high pitches and the lower that you get

The more severe your hearing losses so I without

Without my cochlear implant I

Can't hear all of this

This question does come up a lot and I would like to clear

It is why can't all deaf people just get hearing aids

You know solve a problem as I said in the chart

There are different levels of hearing loss and some of them were more severe and others

The reason why for a cochlear implant is because the hair cells inside the cochlea

are

Damaged in the sense that they can't pick up sound the hairs are supposed to pick up the sounds in the vibration

But for me and for a bunch of other deaf people they don't really do that job what the sounds

Would do it would get picked up by the hair in the

Cochlea, and it would get sent through the eighth nerve which is the audio nerve and it would be into the brain so you guys can

Hear, I want to talk about requirements to get a cochlear implant

So not everyone can get a cochlear implant

And as I said you need a severe to profound hearing loss in order to get cochlear implant for example a person who

Has no hearing in one ear and hearing in the other ear. They're not qualified to get a cochlear implant because

That would be too much work for the brain to have

natural hearing and an electric hearing and that be two very

different sound

competing in their brain

And that would be too much work for them to hear and it would be quite annoying if someone's hearing starts decreasing

They should be very

very closely monitored by

Audiologist to see if they can be qualified for a cochlear implant

this how the cochlear implant works, so

the sound processor

captures

the sounds that get captured into the microphone by the cochlear implant and

It does a conversion of the sounds into digital

codes

then the sound processor transferred the digital code into the coil which is this part here the

outside maintenance of the cochlear implant

And then we get transfer into the impact which is actually inside my head so the magnet that's it inside my head

would get this sound

And that maintenance right under my skin, it's not in my skull. It's not on my brain. It's just right

I just go on my implant got inside

So just to let you know

the implant converts the digital codes to

electrical signals and it proceeds through the electrode array which is inside the cochlea and

Then the electrode array stimulates the cochlea hearing nerve fiber, which is the eighth nerve

Which passes the sound signals into the brain to produce a sensation of hearing. Now I'm going to talk about

How does hearing loss happen so there's four parts of it here

The outer ear the middle ear and the inner ear and then the brain

So I'm going to start with the outer ear sometimes children born without a pinna

which is this thing here that will curve inside here or an outer ear this whole thing a

person can lose their ear in an accident that can cause a hearing loss a person can have surgery to

Build an outer ear or they can get bone

construction for a hearing aid that is surgically placed

Into the bone in the ear which is called a mastoid bone. The Middle Ear

There's a problem with the eardrum or the middle ear bones

So usually surgery can fix the eardrum or the middle ear bones

This can improve a hearing loss

This is called a conductive hearing loss now the inner ear which is

The hearing loss damaged I have and a hearing loss in the inner ear in the cochlea is called

sensorineural hearing loss, and it cannot be fixed with surgery whatsoever

And the hair cells in the inner ear are damaged and they cannot be regrown

But scientists are working on an experiment right now to try and grow your hairs inside

Birds which is scary children and adults who?

Have inner ear damaged are most likely the one to wear who wear cochlear implants are hearing aids

To help them hear and then my final part is what can cause a hearing loss so

Many children are born without

hearing and

the reason is

most of the time unknown

Sometimes a hearing loss can be a part of the family genetics

and they can be passed on and

It's called a genetic hearing loss and for example the famous deaf person that you've probably heard of Nyle

Nyle yeah, Nyle. His family is genetic has genetic hearing loss

And those families are the ones who are more into ASL because us how the rest of their family grew up to be

sometimes children and adults can become sick with a very very powerful illness

Toxic drugs that are used to help heal them can also take away their hearing loss that can be one of the side effects

Sometimes a hearing loss is caused by illness like meningitis, or a tumor which is really unfortunate

So that's all for my video today. Please give a big big thumbs up and please

comment like subscribe and

if you know someone who has a hearing loss, or if you know some some parent to children who are born deaf I

Would love to have conversations with them, please comment below, please

Ask me anything. I am willing to answer questions

I'll see you guys next time
