On the go with EF #46 – Kendra feasts on lobster in Boston - Duration: 4:50.

Hey everybody! Welcome to "On the go with EF".

My name is Kendra and we're in my home town, Boston, otherwise known as "Beantown" or the "Hub".

Have you ever heard of the Boston Tea Party? It wasn't as awesome as it might sound.

It was the beginning of the Revolution,

which was actually the beginning of the United States.

A group of men boarded a ship, kind of like the one over there,

and threw over a lot of tea – about three million dollars' worth in today's currency.

This all happened in 1773 and was the beginning of the U.S.A.

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, so it's known for its history.

It's also known for something else: lobster.

So, I figured I'd take you to my favorite restaurant to get some!

Let's go!

Let's get some lobster!

This is my favorite lobster place in Boston.

Some of you might think lobster is something super fancy

and you have to have it in some super fancy restaurant.

But that's not true in Boston. We have it everywhere and this is the best place.

So, here's our lobster.

Nowadays, lobster can be a bit expensive,

but back in colonial days, it was actually a food for the poor.

Let's break this down because I'm hungry.

First, the butter.

Let's set that aside for a moment. Give us some space!

I'm going to start with the claws. Let's break these guys off.

You just twist it and it comes right off. There's stuff in there. Take the other one off.

Good. This is a critical moment.

Here you have the lobster tail and here you have the head.

Some people get inside of the head and eat the brains and what not,

but I'll spare you guys from that.

The most important part is actually this: the tail.

All you have to do is twist, wiggle and try to do this as gracefully as possible.

We do have our bib. Here we go. Lovely lobster meat.

This is what the big bucks go to.

All you have to do is take it, dip it in the butter and it's time to eat.

It's super good.

The tail is my favorite part, but there's also a lot of meat in other parts, like the claws.

I'll show you how to get these open because these are actually a little harder to get open.

You take the claw cracker and put this baby in there and squeeze.

Don't squeeze too hard or you'll squish it.

Here you go! This is not going to make any more trouble.

Don't forget the butter.

Good. That's all!

That was a great start to my Boston trip.

I'm coming back next week, but first I have a little prize.

This little guy. It's a little lobster!

To win it, tell me what your favorite seafood is, if you eat seafood.

Comment below and one of you guys will get this. See you next week!

Why does government grow? | reTHINK TANK - Duration: 5:45.

BENJAMIN: The Trump budget for fiscal year 2018 has been described widely as dead on arrival.

JOHN MCCAIN: We are facing challenges on a level we haven't seen since the Cold War and this

budget is totally inadequate.

BENJAMIN: It attempts to cut only $30 billion from total federal discretionary spending

of almost 1.2 trillion, so one would think that that small a cut would not be difficult

to achieve or even controversial.

But in fact, it is difficult to achieve and that raises an interesting question.

Why is it so hard to cut federal spending or to say the same thing a bit differently,

why does government grow?

One explanation for the increasing size of government is been the fact that government

produces mostly services produced heavily with human capital - policing services, education

services.

Those kinds of services are not affected as much by technological advances, as, for example,

manufacturing in the private sector which has been affected in important ways by robotics

and computer-assisted processes that have improved its efficiency markedly.

The second factor has been a decline in the importance of families, particularly in terms

of providing social insurance for period during which some family members experience economic

downturns.

As the role of families has declined, it is not very surprising that the demand for government

as a source of social insurance has increased as a substitute.

The third hypothesis is the increasing role of international trade as a share of the economy

in the aggregate.

That is increase the effect of exchange rate risk and it's not very surprising to believe

that a demand for social insurance from government is increased as a result of the increasing

risks introduced in the economy by the increasing role of international trade.

Another factor is the effect of rising taxes which has the effect of reducing work effort

but not uniformly across the economy, so those who work less as a result of higher taxes

rationally vote for more redistribution through government as a means of preserving their

incomes in a world in which higher taxes has had the effect of reducing their work effort.

Another factor, ironically enough, is the effect of the increasing size of the economy

which has yielded more specialization, which has a good effect - increasing productivity,

and also another effect, which is more hidden, the increase in the number of interest groups

demanding favors from government.

One factor that I think undoubtedly plays a role is the increasing cost of government

combined with what is likely to be the inelastic demand for government.

In other words, the demand for government that is not very responsive to its cost.

When cost rises, in the context of inelastic demand, the size of government total spending

will grow.

Another factor is the role that bureaucracy is an interest group.

The bureaucracy has a preference for budgets bigger rather than smaller.

As budgets get bigger and more complex, it's more difficult for Congress and Congressional

committees to monitor the minimum cost for the bureaucracy to provide a given basket

of output.

And so as that monitoring cost rises, it is easier for the bureaucracy to hide from Congress

the efficient budget that would be required to produce its required output.

And so the size of government grows because of this preference for the bureaucracy to

hide the cost of government from Congress.

Another factor is the decline in agricultural employment relative to the economy as a whole

as workers have moved from farms into cities into manufacturing, in other words, in the

sectors that is easier for government to monitor, it is easier for government to collect taxes.

And then finally, one factor I think has received insufficient attention is the effect of the

17th Amendment ratified in 1913 which provided for the direct popular election of senators.

Before the 17th Amendment, U.S. senators were appointed by the state legislatures and hadn't

had very powerful incentives to defend state prerogatives.

Once senators were elected popularly, they had much more powerful incentives to respond

to the demands of interest groups.

Those are the hypotheses that relevant literature offers to us.

I think each of them has some validity in terms of explaining why government grows,

although we certainly do not know their relative importance.

One thing that can be noted is that to the extent that we believe that these are the

hypotheses that can explain why government is so difficult to cut, they do not offer

much hope for those of us who prefer to see smaller government rather than larger.

Let us know in the comments what you think about the growth of government and about the

explanations that I've provided.

Also, let us know what other topics you'd like AEI scholars to cover on reTHINK TANK

and be sure to subscribe for more videos and research from the AEI.

Why It Takes So Long To Get Off An Airplane - Duration: 5:24.

- Passengers welcome to Los Angeles.

The time here is 6:40AM and the temperature is lightning.

As we approach the gate

we asked that you please stay seated

with you seat belts fastened

until we have turned off the that seat belt sign.

We know you have choices when you fly.

We want to thank you for choosing planes.

- Oh thank God.

I can't wait to get off this Goddamn airplane.

Honey, put the book away so we're ready.

- Patience dear.

It's gonna take awhile.

It always does.

- They literally have to open a door.

- [Captain] Flight attendants please prepare the cabin door.

- Oh wow.

Alright - Yeah

- My first time.

Hey doors.

Listen can I just tell you guys

watching y'all work,

it's just a real treat.

You really held that airlock so tight

it really took the cabin pressure right off my shoulders.

(laughs)

Seriously though.

This plane was up real high.

Going real fast and y'all held on real tight.

And for that,

we want to sincerely thank you.

We have, however,

reached out destination.

And the passengers are ready to de-board now.

So, would y'all please open up?

Would y'all please open up?

Just open.

- It's okay.

- I feel like I did a bad job.

- That's okay. Don't take it personally, Okay?

I know these doors.

And they put up a lot of walls.

- Okay.

- What is going on?

We've been sitting here for like 45 minutes.

- It's kinda normal on flights.

(sighs)

Let's let the professionals do their jobs.

- Hey doors.

Sorry about Claire.

She is fun with a pun and

you're gonna learn to love her

but she's new, right.

She doesn't know that around here.

It's a gang.

It's a family.

It's a little bit of a trust thing, right?

You feel that guy behind you?

The jet way.

That big ole tube that people walk through

to get to the airport.

You guys want to team up?

Do this thing?

- Just lift the handle.

I think there's literally instructions

written on the plane door.

- I mean, I've never open a plane door

so I don't know what it really entails.

- I get it, alright.

You're scared.

Yeah, I'm scared too.

Okay, cause it's like

we ask you to open up.

All these people leave

and the what?

What next?

I'll tell ya.

I put new passengers inside this plane.

I close you up super tight.

Then we fly again.

So whatta say?

(door handle squeaks)

I have a picture of you in a locket, man.

- Okay you know what guys.

I didn't wantta do this.

Okay, but I'mma have to.

I gotta get physical.

- Hey remember that time the pilot fell asleep

and we drew dicks on his neck?

That was fun.

Right now you're embarrassing me.

So I'm gonna ask you

to bare with me.

- Gettin' to know each other now.

- Up, up, up, up, up, up and up.

Up, up, up, up and up.

- Guys.

- Please, please, please, please, please, please, please.

- Just open up.

- You're an asshole.

(door handle squeaks)

I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to,

that was wasn't cool to use names.

I have never seen doors so closed off.

I am frustrated.

I am thirsty.

- I have chappy lips.

And an idea.

(dramatic music)

- Look, the jet way is attached.

We have not moved in the last 45 minutes.

I am going up there.

- It's lit.

The seatbelt sign is lit.

- We have not moved in like 35 minutes.

- It doesn't matter. - This is not dangerous.

- If something were to happen I would never forgive myself.

- Oooo, it's off!

It's off and I'm alive.

Unbelievable.

- Honey, please, don't.

(dramatic music)

- Hey doors.

I don't know much but

you see this?

All this shit.

It's not your fault.

- Look at me son.

It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- [Claire] It's not your fault.

- [Male Flight Attendant] It's not your fault.

- [Flight Attendants] It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

(door grunts)

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

- It's not your fault.

It is not your fault.

- Excuse me, there's a plane full of--

- [Claire] It's not your fault.

It is not your fault.

(dramatic music)

(door crying)

(uplifting music)

- [Male Flight Attendant] He's opening.

- Okay.

- [Door] Thank you.

(seat belt sign noise)

- Great.

(door crying)

Top 30 Popular Wechat Stickers! - Duration: 16:08.

Hello everybody, welcome to my channel

Today we're gonna talk about some funny wechat stickers

I know most of you who are watching this video have wechat, right?

So when you're chatting with your Chinese friends,

They may send you some stickers that you don't understand

Usually is a picture with Chinese characters below or around

You can't copy and paste these characters

and let your translation apps help you translate, right?

So it would be awkward

So today we're gonna have a look at the most used and popular stickers

that from my (foreign) friends , I asked them...

to send me some stickers that they like but don't understand

So I can explain them in my video

I only can explain some of them, because...

You know there are too many wechat stickers

so it's impossible to explain each one

But if you guys like this video

I can make episode2

Ok let's get started

"secretly observing" is

I'm watching you chatting

usually used in a wechat group

Maybe it's your class group....class group?

You don't have Chinese classmates, do you?

in a class group, they are chatting happily

message by message, scrolling up very fast

You send this sticker to say "I'm online too"

I'm watching you chatting

"棒棒哒" is a cute way to say

Very good, awesome, cool

"The baby is the cutest"

The "baby" here is NOT...

an infant

The ''baby' here is "me"

is "yourself"

If you say "the baby is blah blah"

This is an odd expression, but it's very popular to say

Girls sometimes would call themselves "babies"

I haven't seen any guy would do that too

But...hm...if

If you're a guy and you like to call yourself "宝宝"

It's fine

So "the baby is the cutest" means

"I am the cutest"

We use "不错" when speaking too

It just means "good"

"Come on, hit me" The person who says this is like a bitch

Because they knew that

The person who is chatting with them is far away from them

not being with them

can't hit them

So they send this on purpose

"嗯嗯嗯"

It means "ok ok ok", "yes yes yes"

When you agree with someone

"Yes go on", this means

I'm listening, please go on

"Me to blame?"

It actually means "It's not my fault (at all)"

It has nothing to do with me

How does this relate to me?

"So angry"

I use it a lot

"好气哦" means "so angry"

I'm so angry

"It's very late, I'm gonna sleep"

"碎" and "睡" are pronounced simlilar, right?

"碎(suì)" is alveolar and "睡(shuì)" is retroflex

But do not use "碎" (when you want to say "sleeping") in writting

Use the original one -"睡"

We sometimes (deliberately) change the original characters to something else

They are acually misspellings

to make ourselves sound cuter and funnier

This is actually playing cute

So this sentence means

It's very late, I'm gonna sleep, let's speak tomorrow

"Don't stop sending red packets", I like this one haha

I said Chinese people love sending red packets before

Especially when it comes to new year or festivals

For example, in a family group

People keep sending red packets

First it was your uncle, then it was your aunt, and your dad

They are keeping sending

You can send this - "Don't stop sending red packet"

So that you could get a lot money

"bear grudges" means "harbour bitter resentment bear grudges"

But

You're not really going to "bear grudges" against someone when you send this sticker

Right

Because if you really harbour bitter resentment bear grudges

What's the point sending this sticker

This is usually in a joking way

When someone said something or did something makes you unhappy

then you can send it

"喀嗞喀嗞"

It's an onomatopoetia, simulate the sound of eating chips

When you're eating chips, you make the sound

"喀嗞喀嗞", right?

Look at the sticker

The small bear is eating chips, right?

喀嗞喀嗞喀嗞喀嗞

"懒得理你" means I just want to ignore you

It can be used in...for example...

The person you're talking to are saying something like

"I'm so beautiful"

Then you can send this sticker

means "ok..I just want to ignore you"

It is, ofcourse, in a joking way

Because if you really want to ignore someone

Why sending this sticker

Just ignore his or her messages

"frosty" is similar with the last one

It can be also used in the example I said in last sticker

The meaning of "冷漠" is

It literally means

Someone shows coldly, frosty and indifferent attitude towards something.

"full marks" just meaning literally

Very good, perfect

"mwah" is an onomatopoetia

It slimates the sound of

kissing

It's "mwah", kinda sounds like "么么哒"

It's a new word that becomes popular recently

You can't find it in a dictionary

It shows you like someone when you send this

I like you

so I send "mwah" to you

"So beautiful"

Every word ends with "哒"

sounds very cute and...

Girls use quite often

As for guys...it's fine to use too

So if you want to know the meaning of "xx哒 "

just ignore "哒", see what characters in front of it

so "美美哒" just means "beautiful"

So you think someone looks beautiful and pretty

The word "懵逼" is interesting

It means you are stunned

Don't know what to say

Like this...

shocked by something, you know?

Don't know what to say, speechless

That's "stunned"

also can be used in

When someone tells you something

you're like "what?", "what the hell?","I've never heard of it"

Like I don't know what you are talking about

You can send this "一脸懵逼"

"You 484 stupid"(literatlly)

"484" is "yes or no"

"是不是"

Because they sound similar (in Chinese)

We often use numbers to...for example

A well-known one is 520, it means "I love you"

FIVE TWO ZERO(五二零),I LOVE YOU(我爱你)

FOUR EIGHT FOUR(四八四),YES OR NO(是不是)

There are many like this - numbers can relate to specific characters, I'll stop giving example

If you need, I can make a video too

So it's so easy, just change "484" to "是不是", then it becomes...

Are you stupid?

Ah! "Your baby is online now"

I love this one!

I use it a lot

"Your baby" is "me"

So you can see that

it is used with someone close to you, because

You're his or her baby, so you're close with him or her

I means "I'm coming", "I'm online now"

"I got your messages"

"brag again"

Hmm...this one...

You need to know what "吹牛" means first

"吹牛" means you say something that is not based on the facts

or bragging

For example...

Someone can't do something

But they say they can do it

This is called "吹牛"

"brag again" means...

Go on

I know you're bragging

I know you can't...

do something

or you can't be so rich... something like this

"You're so beautiful, you're right on everything"

The key point is the first half of the sentence

"You're so beautiful"

You say someone is beautiful

and pretty

"说什么都对" means

I totally agree with everything you said

Because you're soooo beautiful

"Oh god, so scary"

This one is literally

but when you send this sticker

It's not necessary something scared you

or you think something is scary

usually is an exaggeration

"屁都没抢到"

It's a little bit rude

Becasue the "屁(fart)", kinda like

swearing words

It's used when snatching red packet

For example: in a group, they have sent three or four red packets

and you haven't gotten anyone

You can send this sticker

It means I get nothing

I didn't get a penny

"I'm foodie, who am I scary of"

Firstly, you need to know what "吃货" is

"吃货(foodie)" is the people who love all kinds of food

Like me

It says "I am foodie, I am not scary of anyone"

"smile", actually...

The smile expression

I always want to talk about it

There are many people

They like to use this one

But in my (Chinese) friends circle

Many of my friends who are around me, think that this expression is an...

ironic expression

it's like

"whatever" in English

some of my relatives

and...

foreign friends

they really like use this expression (as a normal "smile" expression)

To me, they're not nice stickers

but...

You can use it as a normal smile expression

Those are only my personal thinkings

"I am the most intelligent"

"机智" is...

smart

sharp mind, intelligent

So "我最机智" can be used in...for example

You've solved a problem

You helped someone slove a problem

you can send this sticker

"I'm the most intelligent"

"心塞" is actually...

short for "心肌梗塞(myocardial infarction)"

But the one who send this sticker is not neccessary has this disease

Don't think like that

It's usually used in

when you feel distressed

frustrated

something frustrated happened

and I feel sad

I can say "心塞"

it can also be used when

you're speechless and don't know what to say

you know

Let me give an example

wtf, power failure in my school again! so sad!

"how wide your heart is, how big the red pocket is"

you can send this to your boyfriend

it means

how much you love me, how much money you send in the red pocket

This is so good

Ok, that's all I want to talk about wechat stickers

If you like this video

please give me a "thumbs up" or comment below and tell me

hmm..

I can make another episode

if you think it's not enough

if you don't like this one, it's unnecessary to make another one haha

Those are all my understandings for these wechat stickers

and how I use them

not every Chinese use them like I do

I'm not the representative of every Chinese

if you're Chinese

please excuse me

I hope this video is interesting

and helpful to you

Thank you for watching

see you next time, bye

PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot makes interesting admission about Liverpool - Duration: 3:49.

PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot makes interesting admission about Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot admits he would like to play in the Premier League, and that he was a "big Liverpool fan" growing up.

At just 22, Rabiot is a very forthright character, as he proved in 2015 when he asked PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for a loan move "if my time on the field is insufficient.

The Frenchman ultimately seized a key role at Parc des Princes, making 39 appearances in all competitions last season, including 30 starts.

But while he has maintained his prominence in Paris this term, Rabiot would not be averse to a move away from the club in the future.

Speaking to French radio station RMC Sport this week, he revealed his desire to turn out in the English top flight.

And encouragingly, while he stressed he is "happy at PSG," Rabiot named Liverpool as his favourite club as a child.

"There are a lot of very good leagues.

It's also enriching to go elsewhere, but for the moment I'm happy at PSG," he explained.

"I would love to play in the Premier League.

There's not necessarily any club in particular, even though when I was young I was a big Liverpool fan.

"Yes, I can understand that my ambition, my impatience can annoy some people.

"But the main thing is that it has been useful to me, today I am here, sometimes you have to dare to say things.

Though he spent his youth career shifting around, including a short spell with Man City, the midfielder has been on the books with PSG since 2010.

After a productive loan move to Toulouse in 2013, he has proved himself invaluable in Paris, and if he did opt to leave, it is unlikely Liverpool would be alone among those interested.

He is likely to reach the milestone of 200 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants this season, including considerable Champions League experience and, to date, three league titles.

A tall, strong, box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal, Rabiot would be an excellent addition to any top Premier League side.

And he isn't content with his current output, either, insisting he needs to "improve on a statistical level, to be more present in front of the goal, to score more, to make more passes.

"For a box-to-box midfielder, it's essential to be decisive," he added.

"I could also make progress in terms of my aerial game in front of goal.

There are a lot of things, but I feel that I'm making progress.".

If Rabiot feels his progress isn't best served at PSG, Jurgen Klopp should jump at the chance to sign the boyhood Red.
