Part 5. The border with Myanmar
We are eating again
What are we eating this time?
Same as yesterday, omelette with rice.
Where are we heading today?
50km north somewhere.
We are heading towards the border with Myanmar
through the valleys
and there will be climbs
and it will be warm
what are you eating?
and egg with veggies
very, very salty. On rice
They don't use knives here
or very rarely there are knives
so you have to eat with a spoon and a fork
with spoon you can only shovel the food to your mouth
and the fork is only an air to load food onto a spoon.
No stabbing with a fork allowed
it's not polite apparently
loaded and straight to the mouth
We are at the Sri Sang waterfalls
Wan - I forgot about the last bit
In the Nam Dang nation park
The waterfall is about 50m tall
divided onto few cascades
You can have a nice cooling down bath.
and close by, there are hot springs
but these stink of an old egg too much.
There are thousands of waterfalls in Thailand
but not enough places to take a dip
on the other side, the scenery balances it out.
I have a dryer for my pants
200 bahts saved on the entry fee.
A man is watering his rice field, so it doesn't get too dry.
A rice likes to 'swim', snakes also...
He has a large piece of machinery, which spits out the water forward
it's just a standard pipe with an engine.
but able of long distance watering.
so he just waters it all day long.
nothing exciting
That mountain you see behind me is going to disappear shortly
in about a month, the burn out will start
people will burn everything by the roadsides
so the mountains will be in fumes.
Ecology first.
What is the aim of that?
A biker who passed us told us that
it is about mushrooms.
If you burn a piece of land and a rain will wet it, the mushrooms will grow there.
and you can eat them...
but
we also heard
they simply destroy all the insects and snakes
and burn the rubbish
so the spring
will bring clear roadsides
to pollute one more time
The smoke is from that field, I think it's pretty much done there.
and there is a man with a stick
to unleash the fire further
and control it
It is great to see the passing by and changing scenery.
From the mountains few kilometres ago
and very overgrown area
and here we have a valley
a beautiful valley
with fields
with a bit yellow and warm feel
and ginger ground
it is the beauty of slow travelling by bike.
Another reason why a tent is quite useless in Thailand.
For 250 baht
so about 5 pounds.
we have a tent with pillows and a spectacular view.
on some sort of a platform
with a fireplace
everything prepared
and the pillows are very soft.
oh this view.
I didn't see such a moonrise for a long time.
I was just thinking, what is the real temperature in the sun
if it's 35 in the shadow, what is it in the sun?
45?
well, now it is 27, but very pleasant.
Myanmar is just there.
Actually, I don't know how to name. Burma, Myanmar...
Anyway it's 10 km away.
We cycled only 50 km today.
but it was very pleasant
we took in the waterfalls today only
and we got there for free, hehehe
and we still had the time to take a dip and walk through all the park.
Something went wrong after this food.
and my digestion is really hardcore
maybe it was the food earlier on
maybe the eggs in the morning
10am, free breakfast
Ada ate some rice.
rice soup again
and we are getting ready
something is not quite well with my stomach
and I have an urge to puke.
but I only puke with rice
and stuff from 3 days ago
the worst climb is in front of us
We are riding through Ban Arunothai.
A village where traders from Myanmar, China and Thailand met
every Friday morning.
The last village at the border with Myanmar it is.
we have some climbing to do and I'm going to puke
I smell of puke and I hate rice
Yup, You smell of old, fat rice.
Szymciu got some stomach problems
so we don't ride very fast
actually, we are riding in my tempo now
but I prefer to be the slower one
I think I have a butterfly on my hat.
I gave him Coca-Cola, maybe it will help
Oh, I would eat nutella with bread now.
The closest to that is the chocopie - some local cookie.
and coke.
I think we are done with the climbs
maybe one, small one left.
The Chinese autochthons live here.
They are not far from the border.
It is maybe 200 km.
15 kilometres done in 3 hours.
It would be faster to walk
at least we have an excuse
that I have a heartburn or something.
It is quite annoying in thai drinking water, that the bottles are usually leaking.
sometimes it is even hard to close it.
it is a weird patent.
this time it worked...
this one is special then
we climbed from there today.
in such a big mountains.
3 hours of climbing for this few moments of going down
What's the point.
Done
My front break have stopped working at some point
this weird hydraulic systems
but it came back and I'm still alive.
and I didn't crash my face at one of the U-turns.
the brakes are back - it's good
No I have to wait for Ada
After the flight my discs were bent, now they are pretty straight.
nearly on fire
but are not hissing
20 odd kilometres to do
Are your breaks on fire?
How to check that?
If these are hot, it means yes.
oh shit.
I think the pads started to melt
After 10 days of the monkey bite I gave up with being stubborn and we went to a hospital.
I got shitloads of tabs and 2 injections. It was great:D
We are 600 kilometres from the hospital we were supposed to be in.
What?
Should I tell everyone how irresponsible you are?
How?
I paid around 10 pounds
and I got 2 injections.
in two arms.
and got some fancy food.
So much stuff for a monkey bite and food poisoning.
For puking, high temperature, hydration, antibiotics
and paracetamol...
About 200 km done. I don't have rabies, but I started to enjoy jumping around trees.
Actually, what is the point in this vaccinations?
If you have to take it after a bite also?
I don't fully understand how it works.
