here we go with another shout out Monday evening and this is in celebration of
daylight savings time and today's acronym is some ideas so let's get
started with this right now I'm Tom Kvichak and this is Toms Trains
and Things this channel was created to help other modelers who are in need of
guidance in pursuing their dream of building a model railroad let's get this
acronym out of the way it's some ideas shout out Monday evening imagine
developing every Arduino sketch why am I saying this because we're going to
feature the person who wrote most of the sketches that we use on our layouts
today he developed them over 5 years ago and they've been used by model
railroaders ever since in automation and lighting of their railroads so who are
we talking about I'll tell you in a minute right after this if you would
like to see more videos like this on model railroading go ahead and hit that
subscribe button and while you're at it ding that bell and that will notify you
whenever I have a new video coming out and go ahead and check out all the
playlists that I have on different categories about model railroading on my
playlist page you could find everything that I've done so far in those videos
there so let's get started with this right now who are we talking about today
it's none other than Jeff bonza there was one video that caught my eye Oh
almost about five years ago about the empty Arms Hotel DPM kit where it was
fully lighted and the lights were going all over the place I don't know if
you've seen it this video only has about 8,000 views on it but the one
that was in model railroad hobbyist magazine had more views on it and I
think that was the most popular video and the most popular issue of model
railroad hospital model railroad hobbyist magazine to date and it was
about arduinos and i'm going to talk about arduinos this month i have a few
projects on arduinos-- fact i got them on my workbench right now you can see a
few pictures of it and while you're at it go ahead and check out Walt World he
just put out a video of his workbench look at the difference between my
workbench and his workbench his is immaculate i don't know how he
does it but go check it out what world his latest video on his workbench and
organization that is too neat i can never get it that way but anyway we are
going to talk about he is the pioneer in developing the arduino for model
railroading and we're talking about Geoff Bunza i'll take you to his channel right
here so you could see some of his videos and he's also has a blog on model
railroad hobbyist magazine every month and you could check out his progress his
blogs his projects that he has on there let's go take a look at it right here on
the computer on the other screen right here okay okay here's Jeff's blog now it
starts with the newest to the oldest he's got 26 of them here and he does one
every month and as you can see he's got a lot of stuff here on DCC and lighting
everything that you want to do on your model railroad he as on here now here we
go this is the one video that caught my attention now that is the empty Arms
Hotel it's a DPM kit but what he did with the lighting on
there and the sound effects what is what got me started with Arduino about four
maybe four and a half years ago maybe a May I think it was about four years ago
when I saw this and I went I had to go out and buy an Arduino and start playing
around with it and I I know a lot of model railroaders have
done the same thing and while you're at it go on over to YouTube model builders
and go on their playlist for YouTube model builders Arduino workshop and you
can see I have it up on a screen right here and they have 20 videos on there
that you could go ahead and see what is going on let me bring it down to the
bottom here so you can see it and are we gonna have 20 videos already on there
about Arduino and they just go and do the sketches experiment with it and and
find out what people want to build with it and go from there and try it out and
do it but it's all because of this man right here and let me go to his page
scale model and a scale model animation Geoff Bunza now this month I'm going to
be doing some Arduino projects on there and I'm just like everybody else on
there I'm just starting out although I've done it like four years ago I I'm a
newbie at it still I did some experimenting with with the LEDs and
with the the servos and I have to find those I think I found those sketches
that I had and I brought them over to the new computer so I could work on them
but I've been working on some things on my workbench leading up to that you can
get the Arduino micros and them Arduino minis they're real
small and you could do the same thing with those as you can do on the you know
so we're gonna be playing around with that this month and next month and I got
some other projects and we're going to be playing around with but go ahead over
to Geoff Bunza's page his channel and hit that subscribe button
he's got seven hundred and thirty six subscribers right now let's see you
bring his subscriber rate up and watch these videos on here because he's got
good videos you can learn a lot about Arduino on between here on his webpage
and on his blog on model railroad hobbyist magazine so check him out you
won't regret it he's got a lot of good stuff since I did
the monorail running for beginners DC transformers I said that I was going to
show you how to convert that AC output into DC and I got that up on my
workbench I got some other projects going on with the just plugs
I got transistors in to make it and my potentiometers relate they should be
here sometime today so I could finish up that project right there and we're going
to be doing a lot of projects on trying to light up your model railroad I also
picked up a couple of switch machines that you could see right here that we're
going to be playing around with later on this month and I haven't forgot about
the hair my back is feeling better so I may be able to climb up on the layout
and cut some gaps in the rail so I could hook up that hit hair to my reversing
circle and we're going to work on the one end see how that works and if that
works good then we'll tackle the other end so and we got a lot of projects
coming up so go take a look for it and don't forget to go check out Geoff's
channel and subscribe to him and check out his blog on monal railroad hobbyist
magazine and go ahead and check out YouTube model builders Arduino workshop
they got twenty videos on there and you could start at the beginning and work
your way out and see the progress that they've made in over in the last year so
check all them up and don't forget to subscribe to Tom's trains and things
also and while you're at it ding that bell so you could be notified
whenever I have a new video coming out and we'll see you and his daylight
savings time is messing me up because I like the light at the end of the day but
in the morning I think it's nine o'clock and it's actually eight o'clock oh wow we'll see ya
