Folks, I have a little interaction for you - leave a comment - what is the best 1*18650 box mod in your opinion?
It's very interesting to read what are you using. And what box mod will be Top 1
I will not prolong the beginning. So let's go to the review. Intro...
Hopochki hey!
Hello everyone! Alex from VapersMD is here
And i'm glad to welcome you on my channel
And today our guest is the box mod by Joyetech, which was released in honor of 10th anniversary of Joyetech
From myself, I'd like to congratulate Joyetech with staying this long on the vape industry market
Joyetech partially built this industry and gave us a lot of good products
So Joyetech - my sincere congratulations and wishes of success
Okay, friends, today we're going to talk about Espion Solo box mod, to be exact of the kit, with the 21700 battery
Previously I had a review on Espion box mod which is powered by 2*18650
I've used this box mod for a long period of time, I'm totally satisfied with it and it's one of the few mods that is still on my table
And now Joyetech has presented another box mod with the same name, but add Solo - that means this mod is powered by a single battery
Previous version didn't had support of 21700 battery type, new version on the other hand - does
Okay. Let's not delay the beautiful moment of close up. Let's dive down
Okay, friends. It's time to unbox this package. Espion Solo is written on it, a sticker that says 10th anniversary of Joyetech, Sample not for sale. Also it says that this kit includes 21700 battery with 4000mAh capacity
Also there's a picture of the device itself and a Joyetech logo
On the sides we have standard information regarding the mod name and social media links
And on the rear side we have kit contents, manufacturers info, scratch codes and certificates
Under the cover we are welcomed by the device itself - it's Rainbow color
A kilogram of different manuals
ProCore Air atomizer, replaceable coil head with single coil, spare glass, 18650 battery adapter
Another huge back drip tip. Hell, it's really funny
A bag with spare o-rings, MicroUSB-USB cable for charging or firmware update
Okay, now it's time for technical specs. This mod is made out of zinc alloy and available in 4 colors - Black, Gun Metal, Pink and Rainbow
It features atomizers fit up to 25mm, powered by 1*21700 or 18650 with adapter
Main feature of this box mod is board with sensor screen and standard list of functions
It support all familiar modes - VW, Bypass, TC with fine tuning
Also this mod supports charging via MicroUSB with 2A current and firmware upgrade
Also, this kit is including ProCore Air sub ohm tank, which is available in two versions - 2 and 4.5ml, it have top fill and works with ProC Series coil heads
Another nice touch is that we have a 21700 battery included in the kit, but in certain circumstances this kit might not include it - depends on delivery service you are using
And from words to the deeds, let's start with sub ohm tank. On the top we have honeycomb drip tip with metal inlays
This kit includes two types of drip tips - this violet one, in Black version - its black. And this kit also have this funny and huge black drip tip - it's 810 with o-rings and its made out of delrin
Yes, non-o-ring drip tips will not fit in this slot
Even this one is barely fitting. I guess it's necessary to lubricate the o-rings to make it fit
But I will not use this drip tip anyway, it's too big for me. I'll be using this one, and it inserts perfectly
Next. This tank have top fill. There is an arrow - this is slide top cap - slide it and we get access to the fill slot. Slide it back and we close it
Further. Everything is simple - unscrew the top part - the shaft is screwed on the coil head and the coil head is screwed into the deck. As you can see in the kit we have 2 same coil heads with single coil
These coil heads supports wattage of 40-80W and their resistance is 0.4Ω
This is a ProC A coil head. Also Joyetech provides several types of coil heads which you can now see on the screen
And that's it. Here we have the airflow adjustment ring with a stopper and on the bottom we have a pin which you CANNOT use on the mechanical mod with hybrid connection
To not get burn hit right away saturate the cotton in advance. Let it soak so you will be sure you won't get burn hit
Saturate it well all around and let it soak
Fill the tank and put it to the side, while we will review the box mod. I think it will saturate well during that time
And we're getting to a detailed look on the box mod
And as always we start from the top and in order, where metal 510 connector with spring-loaded gold-plated pin
It have pretty wide fit, since the kit atomizer is 25mm in diameter the fit is the same
If you screw down something bigger - 26mm for example - we will see overhang. Some of you might not like this overhang - me for example
Lower we have a control panel - a Fire button with 10th anniversary of Joyetech engraving. Besides that it is written it's Limited Edition
Also big touch screen, control button and MicroUSB slot for charging and firmware update
On this side we have the Espion Solo nameplate and ribbed surface
Here we have battery door and opposite side is mirror copy, but with Joyetech nameplate
On the bottom we have several vent holes and certificates
Battery door can be removed like so. It held by 8 magnets - 4 magnets on the door - on that protruding parts - and 4 magnets on the both sides of the body
As I previously said this version is includes Avatar 21700 battery. This battery is comes with a tape where is written Remove
We, obviously removing this tape and now this battery is fully functional
As manufacturer claims this is 4000mAh battery, 3.7V and 30A. The company name is Avatar Controls, and I'm assuming this is daughter company of Joyetech
The contact group is look like so. Upper contact is spring-loaded. Also we have a correct polarity marks, as well as few screws that is holding that plastic part and hides the chip
Slide in the battery - it doesn't rattle nor play inside - and after that close the battery door. The door is sits firmly as well and doesn't play
If it starts to play, then you will have to bend a little those edges and it will fit even more tightly
But besides 21700 this mod supports 18650 batteries. This is official statement of Joyetech
We'll be using 18650 with this silicone adapter. Insert the battery, for example, negative side up and install it into the mod
After installation it sits firmly and doesn't rattle. Put the battery door and as you can see everything is working
Also, though unofficially, it's possible to use 20700 batteries. Though this mod doesn't support it - you can use it
Install the battery, mod is working, but unfortunately this type of battery will rattle. As you can see it's not sits firmly and plays right and left
And if you shake the mod a little, you will feel how 20700 battery is rattle. I guess that's why this battery type isn't supported here, even though you can use it
Okay folks, we're getting to the most interesting part - touch screen
Once you turn on the screen you get into desktop - it says the wattage is at 20W, date & time, voltage, resistance and battery life
If we touch the screen - mod is telling us to click that button. If we click it one time the box mod will unlock and show us settings screen
If we swipe right or left we will scroll though the screens. It have 3 screens in total. Main settings screen, menu screen and additional information screen
On the setting screen we can adjust the wattage - when we tap on these white arrows we are adjusting the wattage with 0.1W increments
If we tap and hold the wattage will be adjusting in turbo mode
Swipe left and we're getting into menu screen. First setting is the Mode - in here we're selecting the Mode. For example Power mode - the desktop is looks like so
RTC mode is what we saw previously
TC mode. Here we're selecting the wire we're using - for example SS. The desktop in TC SS mode is looks like so
Next is TCR mode - it's not much different from TC mode - in this mode you can fine tune the TC, but the desktop will look absolutely the same
And last mode is Bypass - in this mode the mod is giving constant voltage depending on voltage of the battery
At the moment it can deliver only 3.4V
And after any action you will have to unlock the mod
Next menu item is Information - in here you can check voltage of your battery, firmware version and exit from this menu
Next is Settings menu - in here you can lock the resistance - this works only in TC mode
Next entry is Wattage adjustment for TC
Next is Subpara - it's the information that will be displayed on the screen - for example Puffs, Time or Amperage
Next menu is Time adjustment. In here we will stop for more details - for example 14:52. Let's adjust it. 14 hours, 52 minutes, 2018, 3rd month and 18th day
And unfortunately there is no button to apply these settings. If i press Fire it won't apply
I did same adjustments and click & hold menu button. Nothing happens. If I just click on it - the mod locks and the setting isn't applied. Sadly
On this mod I managed to adjust the time as you can see - I adjusted the time, but I couldn't adjust the date
There's a bug somewhere. I hope Joyetech will fix this with with new firmware upgrade
If we scroll down we will see the Preheat, Timeout and Exit. And last is return to the main screen
You can change the modes like so - press & hold menu button and you will see it changes on the screen - for example now it's M2. Hold
M3
Power mode
Bypass mode
Another screen for Power mode
TC Ni
TC Ti
TC SS
As you can see, the settings is saved - in previous modes the resistance wasn't being locked - in this mode it is
Yes, switching the modes takes a lot of time. If i switched the mode by mistake it will take a ton of time to get back. And now it's Power mode
Here is a pleasant moment - when you hit Fire button box mod will auto-lock - right now you are unable to do anything besides the firing it - even if you touch the screen this pop up window will appear
And we need to press that menu button to unlock it. Pressing Fire button will lock it again
If this info on screen is interfering you - double click the menu button it will switch into Stealth mode - box mod will continue to work, but the screen will be blank
One two and the screen is on again
So, folks, it's only left to compare it size wise. And I'm gonna compare it with good old Evic, which is powered by 1*18650. As you can see Evic is even a little bit taller
Width and length is about the same, but this box mod supports 2 type of batteries, even 3, and this one supports only one
So, folks, owners of the old Evic - I think it's time for you to buy a new mod
Okay, it's time to finish the close up and get back to face-time, where we test this kit and speak of its pros and cons
Thanks for your attention in close up
Let's roll
Well, coil head of ProCore Air works like all of them - nothing exceptional.
This is standard sub ohm tank, with various replaceable coil heads and top fill - who like such tanks - use it
I'm not a fan of such big clouds sub ohm tanks, though I know a lot of people who uses such atomizers only
Overall this tank is fine, but I don't like those drip tips. Other than that it's good and standard. I don't know what to say about it more. Only if there will be second 510 pin
The most of the time will be devoted to a box mods. We will speak of its pros and cons, so let's go
By the way, I'm using setup like this - Black with Gold color Berserker. I'm using this setup on the daily basis. I switched the old Espion to a new one
Anyway, I found two cons. Let's discuss them
Both cons of this box mod is related with Fire button. First con - this button is plays a bit
When you press it - it starts to wobble like this and you feel it
I don't like it. When I press Fire button I can feel how it plays - it's a weird feeling. I want that button was more monolithic
Next con of this button - big gaps all around of that button. Some dirt and dust will accumulate in those gaps, it's very unpleasant and you can't clean it, since the button isn't removable
So be prepared for it
I've just vaped Berserker at 80W. Good job, Alex
First nitpick goes for that ribbed surface. Dirt is accumulating between these ribs. Same issue was with previous version, which was powered by 2*18650, as well
It's not critical issue, it's possible to live with that. But you should know about that
Next nitpick goes for lack of official support of 20700 batteries - it's seems Joyetech have failed to do an adapter or the battery slot that would fit 20700 without issues
On the other hand you can still use 20700 batteries, though you will be feeling that rattle inside if you shake the mod
Other than that it works and performs perfectly
Next nitpick goes for date & time adjustment. The mod simply don't apply the settings
Maybe it's my mistake somewhere, but then Joyetech should've done this menu more convenient and simpler
Because it's unclear how to apply the settings. So eventually I set up the time, but date settings don't saving
I'm done with cons and nitpicks. Let's talk about pros
First pro i'll give for quality of manufacturing. Everything is made good, in Joyetech style. Joyetech sharpened the quality of their products for 10 years - great job
Next pro goes for compact size, especially for a mod with 21700 battery type support. This mod is even smaller than a box mod which is powered by 1*18650
Yeah, it's smaller than Evic and it's a major pro of Espion Solo
Another pro I'll give for a great chip with familiar functional - it have everything you need and box mod works great
And don't forget - it have 0.1Ω limitation in Power mode. Though for a single battery mode a resistance below 0.1Ω is unnecessary
Next pro I'll give for nice and responsive touch screen. It's convenient in many situations. As well as that Menu button - you click it and mod is unlocked
You don't need to swipe anywhere or click something 3 times - single click and job is done
At the same time this button is stiff enough to accidentally press by itself. It's convenient to use that touch screen and it's a pro
Next pro I'll give for fitting atomizers up to 25mm in diameter. Though even 22mm atomizers looks good. It's definitely a pro
Another pro for support two types of batteries - 21700 and 18650
A pro for fast charging with 2A current
And last pro for firmware upgrade feature
It's a wonderful box mod for MTL. It's compact, it have wide fit - it's great for MTL devices
But let's discuss the price of this box mod. Right now on the screen you can see the price on heavengifts.com with 15% discount by coupon code ALEX15
As you can see box mod alone - without battery - cost 37$. And I can say it's inexpensive and it's great price for a great mod with big amount of pros and with not that critical cons
And to the question - Will I recommend this mod? - I will answer - Yes, I will, because it's a good and quality made mod
So, friends. It's another top device by Joyetech appeared on the market and I think many people will love it
Overall, I want to congratulate Joyetech with their 10th anniversary one more time
I wanna thank YOU for your attention
