- [Chris] From The Rivers Property
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this is Poker Night in America.
(upbeat jazzy music)
- Hello and welcome to Rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I'm one of your hosts, Chris Hanson
alongside the other one, Joe Stapleton.
- On tonight's show the deuce is loose,
the seven deuce that is.
- Seven deuce?
Seven deuce?
- Anyone else wanna throw too? - Oh, you have a flush?
- Oh my God!
- [Chris] Welcome to Day 2, here at Rivers Pittsburgh,
a table with some holdovers from day one,
and some brand new players, and if you're playing
in Pittsburgh, you gotta have a Jack Schanbacher
in the band, that's just how it is!
- He thought it was better
to finish there than to go for it?
- [Joe] Shaun Deeb straddling this hand.
Putting in 100 darks so he gets last action
before the flop.
- I mean, I guess if he's...
- [Chris] And here comes the aforementioned Mr. Schanbacher.
- [Joe] Looks like he's the early front runner
for person with unhealthiest regard for money.
- [Chris] Bowker with eights.
He calls.
- [Joe] Brunson's gonna have to call with his sevens,
try to hit a set.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, we could've switched, yeah.
We could've switched to ...
- [Chris] Kalas with his tens, raises to 1,575.
Oh yeah, pocket pairs all over the place here.
- [Joe] Not a bad raise,
trying to thin the field a little bit.
(player laughs)
He is not to know that he's got everyone beat,
and doesn't have to fear over cards.
(pokers chips clank)
- [Chris] Bowker makes the call,
Brunson's getting a good price, so he's gonna see the flop.
And everybody thinking of very specific flops here.
- [Joe] It's not very often that pocket sevens
is the third best hand.
- [Chris] Jack, nine, four, the first flop of the day.
- [Joe] This checks around.
- [Chris] Another jack on the turn.
- Kane's got even less reason to fear
of someone having a jack now.
Brunson bets 2,200.
I think tens are too strong to fold at this point.
- Kane Kalas does call.
So we head to the river.
Heads-up with Brunson and Kalas.
- [Joe] That feeling when you're trying to rep a jack,
but the board's like, Nah.
Brunson's checked,
time for Kalas to bring it on down the Valueville.
It's just such a great river for Kane Kalas.
Even a set of nines is losing to him now.
- Now we're back into blasting.
- [Joe] Todd is only beating bluffs
and I don't think Kalas would ever turn a flush
into a bluff here.
- We'll get Dave over here for sure.
- But he's in the tournament still.
- No, he's playing 5, 10, 20 right now.
- He bust the tournament already?
- I guess, I mean, he's in the cash game.
- [Chris] Call from Brunson is the wrong one.
You make the call
and you see your opponent grab for his cards that quickly,
things are about to get real bad.
- [Joe] You're done.
- [Chris] Poker Night in America,
brought to you by Kimo Sabe.
- [Joe] Schanbacher straddling.
- [Chris] Action's on Shaun Deeb.
- [Joe] He raises to 300 with queen, deuce.
He must be really bored.
- I was gonna say, Shaun,
I'm almost never folding this time.
- Made it smaller, 'cause I knew you wanted to call.
- [Joe] Shaun on Schan action.
- [Chris] Ten, king, ace, with two clubs.
- [Joe] Pretty much the nuts for jack, seven of clubs.
Flush draw and a straight draw.
- [Chris] And somebody betting into you.
Deeb bets 350.
- [Joe] Schanbacher raises.
Now, of course you don't wanna fold
to this raise from Shaun Deeb,
but the idea of calling and breaking the turn,
I just hate it.
- You can still talk while we're playing.
- (laughs)
- [Joe] And a brick.
- [Chris] 4,225 from Deeb.
- [Joe] Still with just queen high.
This is why I like shoving the turn.
A hand like queen high has to fold.
Schanbacher does call.
- That old quarter tilts the (beep) out of me,
by the way.
- [Chris] There's now 14,800 in the pot.
- [Joe] Welcome to Bricksville, baby.
Population: you.
- All in.
- [Chris] You're Jack Schanbacher, you gotta be thinking,
How did I miss that on the turn or the river?
Happens everyday, Bob.
- [Joe] So Schanbacher ends up with Jack for a first name
and for a hand, and Shaun Deeb shows us
that fortune often favors the bold,
but definitely not the beautiful.
- Please let me bluff you once, come on.
- [Schanbacher] You're not that good.
- (laughs)
- If you checked, I would've went all in, so good bet.
- [Chris] In November 2016,
the Poker Night in America crew filmed all of the action
at the Pittsburgh Poker Open.
122 players battle it out in front of our cameras,
and they were chopping up $177,000 in our prize pool.
The first player to go home from our final table
was David Ferringer from Brookville, PA.
His fifth place finish got him just over $13,000.
Fourth place at the final table went to
Mark Bowersock from Youngstown, OH.
That paid him over $15,000 in cash.
Congratulations, Mark.
Zachary Mullenix, from Pittsburgh,
took home third place,
and, yes, Zach, it's not first place,
but I know $18,000 should soothe a bit of the pain.
And finally we were heads-up between
Stan Fudor from Seven Fields, PA
and Jeremy Halaska from North Olmsted, OH.
In the end, it was Stan going home in second place,
with just over $30,000,
and that meant that the title
for the Pittsburgh Poker Open Championship
went to Jeremy Halaska and a payday of $49,700.
Whenever Poker Night in America is on the road,
great tournaments and, of course,
our celebrity cash game will follow.
More Poker Night in America when we come back.
- [Chris] Thanks for having the attention span
to stick around for so long.
It is Poker Night in America.
Back to the No Limits poker here at Rivers in Pittsburgh.
- [Joe] Did you just congratulate people
on making it through a 22 minutes show?
- [Chris] Yeah, that's about right.
In this day and age, that is a miracle, isn't it?
- [Joe] Got a new player at the table:
Mark Pyooma in the one hole.
- [Chris] I think it's Puma.
- [Joe] I'm gonna say Pyooma.
Looks like we're finally gonna hear something
from Austin Wentling,
Who has two knaves.
Unortunately, they are not as good
as Kane Kalas' lady kings.
- [Player] They'll probably play big today.
Kessel's here.
- [Joe] That is another raise.
- He's in the room now, or?
- [Player] Yeah, he's playing No Limit right now.
- You know Phil Kessel's one of the few athletes
I've ever talked to about poker
who actually know what he's talking about?
- [Chris] Wentling would have to put
all the rest of the chips in with jacks,
if he wants to call.
- I was trying to get a decent sports star here.
I was so close to getting him.
- (grunts) Nice hand.
- Thanks.
- Nothing you can do.
- Yeah.
- Sorry, I'm feeling lucky.
A little bit.
- [Player] Come one, baby!
- [Another Player] Alright, look at that.
That's a good flop.
Not bad, not bad.
- Not as good as it should be, but...
- Hit me, Stacy, one more time.
(laughs)
Ahhh!
Nice game, nice hand.
- Thanks.
- [Joe] He came-ling and then he Wentling.
- Yeah, just hand them cash so you can stay at the table.
- [Joe] Oh no, he's stay-ling.
- Sounds good.
- [Chris] Kane Kalas is doing a good job
of trying to recoup some of the money he lost from day one
Got a double straddle here.
- [Chris] Mark Puma calls the 500.
- [Joe] Kyle Bowker with queen, six.
You old dog, you.
- [Chris] Flop is eight, five, seven.
Bowker bets 900.
- [Joe] Only Kyle Bowker can raise queen, six,
flop an up and down draw,
and now have Todd Brunson drawing nearly dead
if he makes his set.
- [Chris] Call from Brunson.
- [Schanbacher] If they score a touchdown,
get an extra point, and I win.
- Okay.
I'm bad at betting.
I assumed you had to win by two.
- No, plus two.
- [Wentling] Vikings are plus two?
- Vikings are minus two.
- [Wentling] Sorry.
- I have Cardinals, plus two.
- [Wentling] Aw okay, alright.
- [Joe] Think there
he can protect his hand
and he can always make a straight.
Plus, in his mind, his nine's probably live, too.
(poker chips clank)
- [Chris] Well, he just calls.
Bowker, Brunson, to the river,
and there's the set of nines.
But that gives Bowker the straight.
- [Joe] Hit him with the nine!
- All in.
- [Dealer] All in.
- Bowker puts Brunson all in.
- Do you wanna join us?
- [Deeb] Think I'm gonna turn down a meal?
- I just did a Yelp search of the best seafood in this city.
- Where?
- I gotta get a reservation.
- What was the seafood place? - Jack knows a place,
you should ask him.
- Mitchell's?
- No, the name of the place is Monterey Bay.
- I don't know what my obligations are with the family,
but possibly.
- You wanna join us?
- Monterey?
- [Joe] Folding a set is hard.
- We could probably talk, but right now..
- Depends on how you do in the tournament?
- Yeah, right.
- I gotta straight.
- [Chris] Yup, that's Kyle Bowker, that's queen, six,
and that's $32,000.
- Nice hand, Kyle.
- Thanks.
- [Joe] The Todd-father just got gunned down
at the tollbooth.
Worst river ever.
There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling.
Welcome back to Rivers in Pittsburgh, P. A.,
where the seven, deuce game is so in right now.
- You're going to the electric chair.
You can only choose one meal.
One meal, no sides.
- Like, a really, really good miso sea bass.
- Sea bass?
- Yeah, I love...it's just always good.
- Throw over the left shoulder, sea bass.
- [Chris] Poker Night is brought to you by

- [Joe] Shaun Deeb playing the seven, deuce game.
- What's your death meal?
- Death meal?
I'm like getting a filet, 16-20 ounce.
That's what I can handle.
- Okay, what temperature?
- A1 on the side.
Medium, I like it a little pink.
- Medium.
- [Chris] Did he say he just wanted like a 20 ounce filet?
- [Joe] This guy. (laughs)
- [Wentling] It has to be a good cut.
I mean, you see these people that are shoving out filets
that aren't filets. - Yeah.
- Ruth's Chris is obviously...
- Oh, Ruth's Chris is awful.
- Really?
- Ah, (beep)
- Shame on you.
- Depends on if you like the charcoal taste.
- [Wentling] Shame on you.
- [Schanbacher] The temperature gives it
like a real charcoal...
- [Wentling] I love the firmy-ness.
Yeah, the firmy-ness charcoal burn on the outside.
- [Joe] So Deeb flops a flush with seven, deuce.
Bowker's got a better draw to a bigger flush.
- I really don't care.
I just wanna listen to them talk about restaurants and meat.
- [Chris] Is it just me, or does he look like the Salt Bae
when he puts those glasses on?
- [Joe] Who is the Salt Bae?
- [Chris] Oh boy.
Did I just win the prize?
Did I just drop a reference that Joe Stapleton didn't get?
I win!
Game is over!
- Oh man, worst card ever for Kyle Bowker.
- [Chris] And he makes a straight on the river
that has not been good since the flop.
- [Joe] Bowker's betting at 5,900.
- This always (beep) happens...
- [Joe] He does look like the Salt Bae.
I'm seeing it now.
- [Chris] (laughs)
That guy is definitely a Wentling.
- (laughs)
- Straight?
- What the (beep)?
- [Joe] Oh no, he's doing it.
- [Chris] Here it comes.
- [Joe] It's epic slow roll time.
I do not condone this.
- How do you always do this to me?
- 'Cause you're always so mean to me.
Retribution.
- Hold on.
Leave this hand out.
(commentators laugh)
You understand how little chance
you had of winning this pot?
- What, did you have diamond or something?
- I do have a diamond.
Maybe I have two diamonds.
- Called it with ace, queen again?
- [Joe] Shaun Deeb is luck he plays during an era
where no one carries a gun anymore.
- [Chris] (laughs)
- Seven, deuce, seven, deuce?
- Oh, you have a flush?
- Yeah, seven, deuce of diamonds.
- Seven, deuce with a flush?
(players laugh)
Oh my God!
Jesus!
- I did have outs.
- [Deeb] Huh?
- I did have outs.
- [Deeb] Just not the ones you thought you had.
- [Chris] Ace, king for Kane Kalas.
Kalas comes out with 350 bucks.
- [Deeb] Nice hand.
- [Bowker] Thank you.
You thought I wasn't gonna be able to slow roll you?
You were so convinced.
- [Joe] Looks like Schanbacher is also playing
the seven, deuce game,
but he's opting to just call with it pre-flop.
- Seven, deuce comes into play.
- It was a nice river, though.
- He was gonna probably bet more if he didn't get it.
- You think?
- And then what, what do you do?
- [Deeb] Same exact result,
but I don't get the slow roll back.
He was like, queen high you got it.
- [Chris] Ace, nine, ten.
Kalas hits the ace.
- [Joe] This is the other side of the seven, deuce game,
and it is gonna be pretty tough
to take Kane Kalas off top pair, top kicker.
But something tells me he's gonna try.
And there it is.
- [Chris] 1,900 is the bet from Schanbacher.
- [Joe] This bet sounds irresponsible at best.
There's just so few hands that could value raise this flop.
- [Chris] Alright, 4,600, with a king on the turn.
- [Joe] Kane Kalas makes two pair.
Nine, 10 would have been one of the hands
that would have raised on the flop.
And Kane's beating that now.
- 3,400 to bet.
- [Joe] It is always an uphill battle
when you're trying to rep your opponent's hand.
And this is where the seven, deuce game
really changes the whole dynamic of a game,
because each time you're in a hand like this
it makes bluffs a so much bigger part of all the ranges.
Costs folks a lot of money trying to win with it,
and it costs folks a lot of money trying to hero
because of it.
Schanbacher drawing stone dead.
Jack on the river.
He's got one last chance to go for this.
Why stop now?
It's actually a really good board to bluff.
- [Chris] Yeah, I think another $5,000 or so might do it
to try to win the 1,200 from winning with seven, deuce.
Bad news is, Kalas is calling,
I'm guessing, whatever he bets.
- I don't know, there's a four card straight board.
- [Chris] Here we go.
7,700 is the number.
He so wants to win this seven, deuce prop.
- [Joe] Schanbacher's been telling a consistent story.
- [Chris] Wow.
- [Joe] See ya!
- (laughs) Well done, sir.
- Thank you, thank you.
- He's got chops, he's got chops.
- You just get keep pinching your folds,
and then we're all gonna win with seven, deuce.
- It's seven, deuce again?
- [Joe] Play continues as Schanbacher stacks
all his seven, deuce money.
- It's always nice, the biggest pot you play is a bluff.
- Now, that's a beautiful thing right there.
- [Joe] Todd Brunson straddling.
- [Chris] Wentling raises to 300
with six, seven of diamonds.
- [Joe] You know, I thought Angelina Jolie
was simply masterful in The Wentling.
Oh, now he gets aces, come on.
I actually don't hate a call here in position.
You get super sweet implied odds,
if you can crack aces with this hand.
- [Announcer] Alright, tournament players,
you have a minute left on your break.
Make your way to your seats.
- [Chris] Queen, seven, queen.
- [Joe] So Wentling does make a pair.
And he is gonna be tempted to call with this pair,
but he has got almost no equity.
Small bet, so I can see calling it,
but if your opponent doesn't give up after this,
I'd say it's time to get out of dodge.
- Did you fold the winner that hand, Kane?
- Perhaps, perhaps.
- [Joe] Check, check.
And this is why that flop sucks.
Two pair, no good.
I'd say this is a pretty easy fold,
if it weren't for the fact that Schanbacher
just got done blasting off
for three straight to seven, deuce.
I do think the key here is him checking the turn.
It's usually a little bit of an indication
someone's got something.
Nice little run for Schanbacher.
- Can three pair beat that?
- Yes.
- Does three pair beat that?
That's all I wanna know.
Nice hand.
- You get aces a lot.
- Yeah.
- Seven, deuce to aces.
A couple of big hands here at the end
to get Jack Schanbacher back to relatively even.
He's up 1,075 bucks,
but Kane Kalas, Shaun Deeb and Kyle Bowker
beat the table for substantial amounts.
- [Joe] Also, Mark Pyooma.
