2017 香港蜆殼義工隊回顧 Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team 2017 Review Video - Duration: 2:48.

Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team, upholding the slogan "To Serve, To Share, To Sustain"

has always been committed to serving the community

and contributing to the society with love and passion of its members.

Organising a variety of initiatives and activities throughout the year

the dedicated team spread its love and care to a wide range of beneficiaries

including children, elderly, and youth, as well as the environment.

In February 2017

Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team organised the "Hiking x Eco Clean-up" activity

Participants helped clean the environment while enjoying the beautiful nature

In April and May

two service sessions were organised with Food Angel

Shell volunteers prepared hot meal boxes for the elderly and the underprivileged families

promoting the message of "Waste No Food" at the same time

During the Easter

Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team partnered with

the local NGO Pei Ho Counterparts in Sham Shui Po

They injected positive energy to the society by giving away food

and daily consumables to those in need

The Bring A Book & Share carnival was held by Read-Cycling in late April

Shell volunteers have been supporting the event for years

In June, Shell volunteers accompanied some elderly to the Ocean Park

and enjoyed a happy day together

During the summer, the volunteer team organised a day trip

with St. Christopher's Home for the children

All the participants played together, learned together, and laughed together

In September, the team celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with the elderly

Shell volunteers were happy to spread their love and care to the senior citizens

In the same month, the 36th "Shell/ Island Jaycee Scholarship for the Disabled"

organised a diversified art workshop to promote social inclusion

Shell volunteers shared the happy moments with students with special education needs

through their creativity

During the scholarship presentation ceremony held in November

Shell volunteers also provided support on site and shared the joy with the SEN students

In December, Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team organised a Christmas party

for in-patient children in United Christian Hospital

bringing gifts and happiness to the kids in the festive season

"Shell Run for the Future", which has been welcomed by Shell volunteers

has launched its third wave in late 2017

Under this mentorship programme

Shell volunteers shared their experience with teenagers during the training sessions

and run together for a better future

The success of Shell Hong Kong Volunteer Team depends on all of you

The volunteer team is committed to further spreading its love and care

How did you start using clopidogrel

In December 2015 I got a brain stroke

I was playing rink ball with my friends

And the stroke came when I was in the locker room

After that I spent eleven days in a hospital

The doctors ordered me to use a blood thinner called Marevan

But when my levels were not right

After six months

It was changed to a medicine called Plavix

I continued taking Plavix for a year and a half

Did you receive information about the possibility of reccurence of a stroke?

I was given a lot of written information

For example a stroke recording book

But I did not receive much oral information

The medical language is full of terms, so it was at times quite difficult to understand

How did you end up taking a pharmacogenetic test?

My wife was in a local Duodecim doctor association's meeting

There was a doctor from Abomics giving a presentation

About the possibilities of pharmacogenetics for medical treatment

Some drugs were a topic of discussion

And blood thinner Plavix that I was taking at the time was one of these

Luckily, I happened to have an appointment with my doctor the very next day

I told him that I wanted to take a pharmacogenetic test

He wrote me a referral and I took the test

My results came within a month and the drug was switched to another within a month

The sample showed that Plavix did not work for me

How did the results affect your life?

Of course, it was a relief

That I would not need to take a drug that does not work for me

I feel more secure now

I know that my current medication probably works better for me than the old one

Alongside my other medication

If I would have continued taking Plavix not knowing that it does not have an effect

It would have just been placebo for me

Would you recommend taking a pharmacogenetic test?

Yes of course

There are also other drugs that can work similarly, that they do not work for the patient

So, it would be definitely good to take the test
