Inspiration Pørn | Deaf Awareness Month - Duration: 4:57.

Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome to the last video of Deaf Awareness Month.

Today, I want to discuss something that is a big problem...everywhere.

Today, I want to talk about inspiration pørn.

Most--a lot of people in the disability community know what this means.

I want to let you know, I modified the captions a little bit, and the title because this is not actually pørn, it's not.

So I don't want YouTube to be taking away the monetization because of that.

So I'm using other ways to do that, I hope that works?

This term was coined in 2012 by Stella Young, a disabled activist.

What does inspiration pørn mean?

Being inspired by disabled people just by the fact that they exist.

Why is this is a problem? It objectifies disabled people and looks at them as something to be inspired by,

when they're not doing anything except living their daily lives.

I will link the TEDTalk by Stella Young, she explains why she coined that word, and how she feels about it.

I will link that below. Also, a few other videos about inspiration pørn.

Now, this is not saying you can't be inspired by disabled people who are doing activist work,

doing great things in the world, for work.

But this is saying that you should not be inspired by a disabled person who is just living their everyday life.

Stella coined this word because of two, several experiences really, but two main ones she mentions.

The first one: she went to a school, presented about law.

And one student asked, "So when will you start your inspirational speech?"

What are you talking about?

"You know, disabled people in wheelchairs usually come here and give inspirational speeches.

It's usually in the big room."

Ah. That kid had never seen a disabled person as anything other than as an object of inspiration.

That's a problem.

Second: when she was fifteen, a woman wanted to nominate her for a community achievement award.

And her parents responded, "That's great, but she hasn't actually done anything."

The woman wanted to nominate her because, wow, a wheelchair, she still gets up every day

and goes live her life, blah blah. No.

If she had actually done some big contribution to the community, like, I don't know, host a food drive.

Or...donated something. Great! That's fine. But...

It's kind of creepy when you think about it.

It happens with deaf people too. People will be, "Oh, wow, you've really persevered through life, blah blah."

Like. I'm just living my life.

You know, people look at me and be inspired that I get along even without hearing.

Understand this. Many of us grew up... This is what we know. We...know being deaf.

But that's not anything to be inspired by.

Yeah, we have to figure out ways around it, but that's not something to be inspired by.

I don't think I can really say anything in addition to Stella's TEDTalk so I will let you watch that.

And end here today. Short, I know. But... I just wanted to say this if you didn't know about this.

So I guess that's the end of Deaf Awareness Month.

Dez Bryant CRUSHES Racism with a Message That Stuns Liberals | Top Stories Today - Duration: 2:24.

Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys shared his thoughts on race in America recently on Instagram.

Bryant said that black people are unsuccessful because of other black people and that all

races should focus on personal accountability.

Bryant said: First and foremost, I would like to say I

do a great job of minding my own business, but it's pressing on my heart to share my

thoughts about white Americans and black Americans (racism).

I saw a person quote Charles Barkley when he said, "We as black people, we're never

going to be successful not because [of] you white people, but because of other black people."

I hate to admit it, but I understand that quote.

I've been [racially] profiled on numerous occasions, but not once has it influenced

an ill feeling inside me about anyone outside of that issue.

REAL SLAVERY is different from what's going on in our world now.

We all (every ethnicity) have the opportunity to lead by EXAMPLE.

Instead of making videos about the history of racism that get applause or people with

influence merely doing things to post for social media, we should focus on individual

accountability to be better as a whole.

I recently ran into a guy I grew up with who spent his adulthood dealing drugs.

While we were catching up, he shared with me that he wished that he chose a different

and better path.

He said seeing my success was inspiring and that it encouraged him to do better with his

life.

Real question: What is wrong with being sophisticated and black?

Why do we associate those who choose the straight-and-narrow as not being "black enough?"

Why was it that I was one of the first examples of success to my friend?

We focus hard on fighting the realities that exist instead of creating our own reality.

The ones who came for us (Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X) paved a new path for

us to follow.

The struggles and hurt they endured created new life for us today.

It is not our job to carry the burden, but it is our job to lead by example.

Not that my opinion matters, I'm just sharing my thoughts.

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert Received Racist Voicemails After LeBron/Trump Tweet - Duration: 1:35.

Following last weekend's tweet from LeBron James where he called Donald Trump a "bum"

for withdrawing the Golden State Warriors' invitation to the White House, Cleveland Cavaliers

owner Dan Gilbert says he received a ton of jaw-dropping racist voicemails directed at

his star player.

Telling CNBC's Squawk Box on Friday,

"The thing is, I mean, some of the most disgusting things I've ever heard people say, and you

could hear it in their voice—the racism.

It wasn't even really about the issue, and that's what really got me, because they went

to who they really are, some of them."

The voicemails opened Gilbert's eyes to the racism that still exists today.

"I received voicemails after LeBron tweeted that were some of the most vile, disgusting,

racist[messages.

There's an element of racism that I didn't even realize existed in this country this

much."

Gilbert admits to saving the voicemails, but has yet to tell LeBron about them—though

he presumably knows now.

Earlier this week, Gilbert, whose company donated $750,000 towards Trump's inauguration

and who allowed him to use the Cavaliers' Quicken Loans Arena for the 2016 Republican

National Convention, released a statement addressing his relationship with the president

of the United States.

"Our interests are in the policies at the federal level, and not the politics surrounding

the elections.

We have often supported both political parties in the same election so that we have the ability

to impact positive change, regardless of who occupies the offices."

Gilbert and his wife did give a much smaller donation of $75,000 to Hillary Clinton's failed

presidential bid.

5 Mysterious and Strange Events Caught on Tape - Duration: 11:12.

What would you do, should you realize that you just captured an unexplainable object..

or even worse, figure, on your camera ? Would you freak out ? Or look for logical explanations

? The people in the following clips, have chosen

the second option.. which is quite understandable to be honest.

And now, without further ado.. lets dive in, into 5 Mysterious and Strange Events Caught

on Tape.

The first video was recorded by 2 young explorers from Germany, who like to investigate old

abandoned places.

These were the same 2 guys, that were also investigating the old run down asylum in one

of my earlier episodes.

Another lonesome explorer, who made his way out, to investigate an abandoned house.

Locals mentioned, that they could hear screams, stemming from the place, once in a while.

These two girls were home alone, when they noticed a strange happenings, that were suddenly

unfolding themselves in front of them.

What could have caused that ?

While these two girls were preparing a little song, unexplainable activity started to take

place in the back of the room.

This young man was exploring an abandoned civil hospital.

His friends told him that sometimes things can be seen there, that no one has an explanation

for.

Could he capture one of the former patients ?

Hello everybody and welcome to The Paper Booklight!

My name is Laura Munoz and today's review is going to be a nonfiction and

it's "Strong looks better naked" by Khloe Kardashian She doesn't need

any presentation but if you are not familiar with her, she is a businesswoman

entrepreneur, celebrity and the member of one of the most mediatic families in all the world

So this book's been released a couple of

years ago. It was released first on Hardback in 2015 and in paperback a year

later and it's published by Simon & Schuster

So basically, we've got this

book in the bookshop and well, part of our job as er... booksellers is to know

what we are selling and also to be in touch with pop culture as well and

what's going on in media. Er...indeed, if someone comes to the shop and ask us

like latest book of Charlotte Crosby let's say, or Scarlett Moffatt from Gogglebox

you really need to know

Khloe Kardashian is one of my favorite Kardashians

I really enjoy watching the Kardashians... I'm super excited because

it's gonna be ten years since its first airing. I was like "yes! I definitely need to read it!"

So, What would you find in this book? OK. So, this book is basically

divided in three different parts: Body, Mind and Heart.

At the end of these

chapters, where she basically tells you like how she approached exercise

a journey towards a really healthy life. Also, more personal insights as in like when

she divorced Lamar or when her father died... How she approached this grief

Towards the end, Khloe mentions as well how she lives

Caitlyn's (Jenner) transition, what she felt... Because that it is indeed a difficult subject, it is

something difficult for a family to to go through that

And also, you will find that

at the end of each part you will find a chapter written by er.. The personal trainer, the Doctor

and her pastor telling you what they do and also what is the relationship

with Khloe and the Kardashians themselves

I think it's a really really really

interesting book because it's really entertaining you know? it doesn't contain

any like you know tips as in... "oh, you need to do this"... No..

It's more as if, like you know, she's opening you her heart and basically the

tone is as if you celebrity older sister is speaking to you

it's really easy to read, it's really entertaining. Ideal for when you are commuting if it's a long commuting.

I mean, I ended this book in two days. So if you want to read a different memoir this is your book

Here in the UK loads of people were asking me about

this book. "Like have you read it?" "How do you find it?" You know, it's like what does it

make it ,you know, this phenomenon...The Kardashians phenomenon so popular in

the UK? And I myself was asking this as well. Because you are in your house, you

know you're watching TV and it's like the Kardashians are on the TV... You find yourself

like binge watching it for hours, like What is it behind this phenomenon?

And this is something that I studied at uni

For those who don't know, I studied Audiovisual Communications

at uni which is Media Studies. One of the things that

your study is like the psychology and sociology behind these TV shows, the type

of narrative and also you know like the different archetypes within the family

well you've got the wise person... In this case it would be like Kris Jenner you

know? because she's the "Momager" she's the wise person she's the one that

everyone look up to, you know? Then you've got... I don't know maybe the comic relief

Scott Disick can be a good example, no?

You also, you can see like how conflict is

developed throughout the seasons... It is also like really interesting how we are

incorporating different types of doing different narratives in media as well as

you can see like how you can use this platform to make a change how you

incorporate different technologies such as virtual reality and also how do you

use it as a platform ,you know? Because when you are an influencer... Going

back to Khloe's case.. If you're doing this book and you're basically knowing you're

telling your personal experience you may be influencing someone like to project

what they're thinking when reading this book, to project their situations on the

text of this book and say "Hey maybe I can apply this to this" so you know it's

like the different ways that you have to use narrative

how we're changing that is what I find fascinating

If you'd like you know to see

like how media works as well, I will do a post in my blog with some good reads

that I had to read at uni. But at the moment I can recommend to you "Ways of seeing"

by John Berger. It is a book that changed my way to see media and also

like how my vision towards art, and my vision towards media changed completely

and I think that's a really really cool thing that when you start studying Media

you stop watching TV and you start seeing TV. And yes, I find it pretty

interesting because if you apply this theory to any docudrama, tele-reality

talent show, you know. You will find that it is really interesting to see the

behind the scenes of television, you know?

And also like, another author and Sociologist

that I really like to recommend is Henry Jenkins, he does a really extensive

job on what is like the "fan phenomenon", the fan fiction and what is behind all these

concepts. I will leave you some recommended books as well in the

description box because I think it's a really really really interesting way to

approach... You know, media is constantly evolving and...

And in the other hand the book

I'm gonna recommend you now is "Selfie" by Will Storr it explains how throughout history we

we changed the concepts of self-image. I think it's a really

interesting read to see because as well as you find the upsides as it is like

it's a really good platform is a really good thing, you will find the downsides

as in everything in life. And I think there is a really really really interesting reading to do as well.
