Should you ever want to write a letter to the devil,

we are able to give you his address:

Of course today the devil is not anymore living in that Baroque palace

overlooking one of the most beautiful avenues of the city,

but many witnesses swear he lived there for most of the 17th century.

The devil arrived in Milan in 1615

under the guise of the marquess Ludovico Acerbi.

Soon disturbing rumors about bonds between the marquess and the devil started spreading around.

It should be said that the noble wasn't doing anything to stop the rumors.

He was going around Milan on a carriage drawn by his black horses.

He was always surrounded by sixteen youngsters, pale as vampires.

And his same aspect, characterized by a full black beard,

was not helping improving his reputation.

Milanese cleared up any doubt about the real identity of the marquess Acerbi

when the outbreak of plague started in 1630.

While the aristocrats, to escape the disease, moved towards their countryside possessions,

leaving Milanese people dying in agony in the streets,

the marquess remained in his palace and started organizing opulent parties.

While the corpses were piling along Corso di Porta Romana,

on the other side of the windows at number 3 you could hear people laughing and toasting, playing and singing.

Obviously at the end of the plague that killed more than half of the people of Milan,

nobody in Acerbi's house had been infected.

After all, the devil in person was living there.
