The Untold Truth Of Hugh Hefner - Duration: 4:47.

Hugh Hefner, the founder of the iconic, if controversial, Playboy magazine, died September

27, 2017 of natural causes at his famed Playboy Mansion.

In light of the news of his death, we're taking a look back at his life — and some little-known

facts about a man who left an indelible impression on the cultural landscape, mainly while wearing

fancy silk pajamas.

Origin story

Hefner was born in the "Roaring Twenties" to conservative parents he called "very repressed."

As a young man in a newly post-World War II America, Hefner expected the cultural climate

to resemble the post World War I landscape he grew up in, with its jazz and Great Gatsby-like

revelry.

But "when the skirt lengths went down instead of up," as Hefner put it, he knew America

was in for what he called a "very conservative, serious period."

But Hefner sensed there was a widespread urge for an alternative way of living, telling

the Telegraph in 2009, quote, "Under all the conservatism and the repression there was

this yearning for something different.

That's the reason the magazine was successful, why people embraced it from the very outset."

In that same interview, Hefner also insisted that Playboy was never strictly salacious,

blaming his competitors for ruining his rep: "When Penthouse and Hustler came along they

confused what I was trying to do.

Before they arrived, we were perceived as a sophisticated men's magazine."

"I'm on the side of the angels, and always have been."

Peter Pan in PJs

Believe it or not, Hugh Hefner was actually a bit of a late bloomer — and always a self-confessed

boy at heart, even in his 80s and 90s.

Following what he later recalled as a frustrating two years of wooing his soon-to-be first wife,

Millie Williams, the pair consummated the relationship when Hefner was 22.

It was his first time — but not hers.

She was with another man while they were engaged.

He later called learning about the affair "the most devastating moment" in his life.

Given his lavish and pampered lifestyle, it should surprise no one that Hefner liked to

live his life with a boyish heart.

He told CNN in 2009, quote, "I'm never going to grow up.

Staying young is what it is all about for me."

He echoed similar sentiments in his 1992 interview with the New York Times.

"Like the Great Gatsby, my view of my life was very much as an adolescent boy.

The child in me was always the best of who I am.

I've never let go of that."

Strange bedfellows

At the height of its powers, the Playboy empire was reviled by many, particularly feminists

like Gloria Steinem, who famously went undercover at Hefner's Playboy Club in New York City.

But if Hefner is to be believed, their contentious relationship almost became something else.

He told the Hollywood Reporter in 2011: "Gloria and I go back a long ways ... but it's more

personal than you probably know … We actually exchanged phone calls and came very close

to dating."

Incidentally, Hefner also mentioned that criticisms from feminists like Steinem cut deeper than

most: "Being attacked by right-wing Christians did not bother me ... Being attacked by liberal

feminists did."

"I think there's kind of a, almost a Rorschach test sort of quality about writing about Playboy."

"So that what comes out in the press is often not so much about me as it is about society."

Bad review

In 1985, Hefner suffered a mild stroke, and, oddly enough, blamed it on a book: The Killing

of the Unicorn by Hollywood director and writer Peter Bogdanovich, released the year before.

The book covered the murder of former Playmate Dorothy Stratten by her estranged husband,

and it heavily criticized Playboy and how the magazine treated women.

Hefner said in a statement that the stroke, quote, "resulted from stress developed over

the last year in reaction to the pathological book written by Peter Bogdanovich," adding

that his recovery was "total, and something of a miracle."

Bogdanovich told Hefner in his own statement to the Chicago Tribune that he was sorry if

forcing Hefner to confront how he treated women made him sick, adding, quote, "It would

be a real miracle if his life would change to benefit women."

Full circle

Hefner decided decades ago where he wanted to be buried: next to Marilyn Monroe, who

was on the cover of the very first issue of Playboy.

Hefner purchased the crypt next to Monroe's at the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los

Angeles, California for $75,000 in 1992.

In a 2000 interview with his own magazine, Hefner called the decision "poetic," but,

true to form, also cracked wise about his eventual demise, relating a bawdy joke from

a famous friend: "Jay Leno suggested that if I was going to spend that kind of money,

I should actually be on top of her."

Jokes aside, Hefner saw the move as an elegant ode to the woman who kickstarted his career

"Well, it certainly has a, very, kind of, completion notion to it."

"I will be spending the rest of eternity with Marilyn."

Mutual Fund Q&A--September 29, 2017 - Duration: 7:58.

Ashutosh Bairagi has invested in the ELSS of Axis, Reliance, DSP, Birla Sun Life mutual funds

He wants to invest Rs 10,000 in SIP in debt and mid-cap fund to diversify his mutual fund portfolio. He has a time horizon of three years

Three years is too short for investing in equity funds since there is often fluctuations in the value of investments in this period which might unsettle you

A better way would be to figure out the need for which you are trying to make this investment

3-4 years might just be good enough for a debt fund

If the need for something like child's primary school admission, you might not want to take high risk of equity funds and debt funds might work better for you

In the investments of about 5 years, the equity component can come in

There you can look at balanced funds like HDFC Balanced Fund and L&T Prudence

If you are looking at equity funds, we suggest you look at large--cap funds and have a horizon of 8-10 years

In case of large-cap equity funds, we suggest Aditya Birla Frontline Equity Fund

Even for mid-cap funds, have a tenure of 8-10 years

We would suggest Sundaram Select Midcap if you are looking at a mid-cap fund

Christopher Nolan Movies Ranked Worst To Best - Duration: 6:07.

From ambitious, mind-bending sci-fi movies to murder mysteries and war epics, Christopher

Nolan has put a unique stamp on Hollywood during his two-decade career as a director

— and proved that ambitious, original ideas can make just as much box office bank as comic

book superheroes.

"If you're good at something never do it for free."

With a level of critical and commercial success that most filmmakers never come close to,

Nolan's only real competition in the industry is himself.

But how do his movies stack up against each other?

Here's our ranking, starting with number ten.

Following

Even Christopher Nolan's worst movie is pretty darn good.

But more than anything, it stands as a testament to his early promise as a filmmaker.

Clocking in at just over an hour, this super-short movie revolves around a man whose hobby is

following strangers — which it turns out is pretty weird when you're doing it in real

life and not on Twitter.

"When it stopped being random, that's when it started to go wrong."

With a narrative that jumps around between the future and present, it's no surprise that

critics see Following as a harbinger of the great work Nolan would produce in years to

come.

Insomnia

Nolan's breakout as a filmmaker came with Memento in 2000 — but it's the movie he

made after that one that's next in our reverse ranking.

This suspenseful crime thriller is a remake of the 1997 Norwegian film of the same name,

and Nolan used his Alaskan setting to spectacular effect.

And in addition to the kind of intricate plot that would become a trademark of his work,

the director also proved that he could wrangle a talented cast of A-listers; Insomnia is

led by Al Pacino and Robin Williams, who delivered one of his most chilling performances.

The Prestige

Smart, mysterious, and featuring a totally underrated cameo by David Bowie, this period

piece pulls off one of the best twists in modern cinema.

The story follows a pair of dueling illusionists, played by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale,

as they battle to rule the magic scene in late 1800s London.

Hey!

Where'd he go?

We won't spoil the big reveal, but let's just say that this movie has a lot up its sleeve,

making it a memorable and ambitious entry into Nolan's catalogue.

The Dark Knight Rises

The final entry in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy is a fantastic film.

It's just not as good as the first two, which is why it's here on the bottom half of the

list.

Nolan brought his series to a rousing end by turning the entire city of Gotham into

a war zone, with imposing bad guy Bane, played by Tom Hardy, as the villain-in-chief.

Along with Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, The Dark Knight Rises brought a brand of spark

and wit the franchise had been missing.

And even if the formula was arguably stretched a bit thin by now, the director still managed

to send his Batman out with a bang.

Interstellar

Nolan walked a tightrope with this sci-fi flick, combining a space adventure with a

metaphysical message about the transcendent power of love.

Ambitious!

But Nolan worked hard to get the science right and create a stunning blockbuster spectacle,

while also never losing touch with his story's heart.

At the middle of it all is a mission to save humanity — and a poignant performance by

Matthew McConaughey as a hero on the verge of a life-changing sacrifice.

Memento

We're into the top five, with the movie that first put Nolan on the map — and a textbook

example of what makes him such a great filmmaker.

Starring Guy Pearce as the world's most unreliable narrator, it forces the audience to piece

together its story one tiny detail at a time, backwards, using only a bunch of polaroids

and tattooed clues on the skin of its protagonist… who hasn't the foggiest idea how his own story

began.

"Look, I'm sorry I don't remember you.

It's nothing personal."

Fortunately, nobody has amnesia when it comes to recognizing Memento as Nolan's first cinematic

masterpiece.

As both writer and director, he showed Hollywood he had the chops to take big, original, high-concept

ideas and turn them into something critics and audiences alike would rave about.

Batman Begins

"He's here."

"Who?'

"The bat man!"

This superhero franchise was in shambles when Christopher Nolan's pitch for a back-to-basics

approach put it back on track, and reinvented the genre in the bargain.

Batman Begins nailed the classic character's origin story and introduced a whole new generation

of fans to the Dark Knight — and it put Batman back on top of the box office for the

first time in ages, proving that its director had the chops to helm blockbusters that were

so much more than simple popcorn flicks.

Inception

Let's be honest: for most directors, setting an action-packed heist film inside multiple

sub-layers of an increasingly complex dreamworld would have resulted in a mess of epic proportions.

But for Christopher Nolan, that premise made for a mind-bending masterpiece.

With an all-star cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Ellen

Page, Inception may still be the director's most remarkable project: a dizzyingly complex

story and jaw-dropping visual effects extravaganza in one.

What might be most impressive, though, is that Nolan is one of few directors who Hollywood

would dream of trusting with a non-franchise picture this ambitious.

Dunkirk

Despite the uncountable number of World War II movies that have come out of Hollywood,

Christopher Nolan still managed to give the military conflict a fresh spin with this story

about the daring real-life evacuation of Allied troops from the French city of Dunkirk.

Instead of a big, sweeping battlefield epic, Nolan got right up close to the action with

multiple perspectives across three different timelines — featuring a talented ensemble

cast that included a few familiar faces from Gotham City.

Critics were seriously impressed, and this inspirational film is the director's best

yet… with one exception.

The Dark Knight

If Nolan's Batman trilogy is the best superhero franchise ever made, this movie is its crown

jewel.

"Hiiiii."

The late Heath Ledger stole every scene with a mesmerizing, Oscar-winning performance as

the Joker, and Christian Bale was in full command of the caped crusader's cowl — not

to mention his memorable bat-voice.

"WHERE ARE THEY?!"

Critics and audiences alike loved The Dark Knight, and many people were furious when

it was snubbed in the Best Picture category, and for good reason: it's not just one of

the best superhero movies of the past decade, it's one of the best movies, ever, period

— and that's why it's number one on our list of Nolan's greatest hits.

No clowning.
