CORON TO EL NIDO PHILIPPINES JOURNEY (GOODBYE ROBYN!) - Duration: 8:00.
- Montenegro is the boat
that's gonna get us back to El Nido,
and at first glimpse we were both shocked
at how amazing this boat is.
(upbeat music)
- [Brad] Are you okay lifting that?
(Robyn speaking inaudibly)
That's some mighty guns you have there.
Alright, we're off to the port.
We're off to the port.
Alright everybody, it is the fourth of May 2018.
We're in a tricycle on our way to the port
here in Coron, Philippines to head back to El Nido
on a five hour fast boat back to El Nido.
And it's a super hot day.
Now unfortunately yesterday it was raining the whole day,
so we did nothing in Coron except meet
amazing people in the breakfast area.
So, it wasn't too unfortunate after all.
(upbeat music)
- [Brad] We're super early.
It's like 20 past 10 in the morning, but maybe catch a cafe
or something like that, check in, do whatever we have to do,
and then, yeah, look forward to the amazing
five hour boat ride ahead of us.
You sure you don't want me to take your suitcase?
- You're a good gentleman.
(speaking inaudibly)
- Evidence of me offering to take the suitcase.
Thank you.
- [Robyn] Thank you, gentleman.
- No, I changed my mind, you can take it.
(laughing)
- Such an idiot.
(laughing)
(ticket person speaking inaudibly)
- We have to pay a terminal fee before we leave.
20 pesos per person.
11:30, we're about to board the ferry back to El Nido.
Not looking forward to this five hour boat ride.
You're not looking forward to it.
Nobody else is, either.
(laughing)
Sh.
So, it's an overcast day.
Weather's changing again.
Unfortunately we never got to see
a lot of the beauty of Coron due to the rain
that we had yesterday.
Thunderstorms we had the night before last night,
and yeah, so we'll definitely come back to Coron,
maybe for a bit longer
so we can really check this place out.
There's some diving here,
there's a lot of good rec diving here apparently.
And there's always another day, another time.
Life is long, so I'm not too fussed.
Yeah.
It's been an amazing trip.
Here we go, on the boat we go.
Right there.
(upbeat music)
- Alright, quick update.
We just boarded Monte Negro.
Monte Negro is the boat
that's going to get us back to El Nido,
and at first glimpse, we were both shocked
at how amazing this boat is compared to the boat
that we caught to get from El Nido to Coron.
Check out this, first class.
With plants.
(laughing)
What do you think so far, first impressions of this boat?
- It's luxury.
This is amazing, I'm so happy right now.
Three or four hours, worse, I can do this.
- [Brad] Make sure you book Monte Negro.
- They even cushion, there are even cushions on the seats,
you know?
- [Brad] We never had that on our trip.
- It's comfort.
- We've never had that coming here, did we?
- [Robyn] No, no, no, didn't have none of that.
- Just real quick, check this out.
(upbeat music)

we've just arrived back to El Nido from Coron, Philippians.
Don't really have much of a voice.
The air conditioning was terrible.
It was so cold in the cabin.
I've lost my voice, and everybody was freezing.
And so, so cold, and that's why I don't have a voice.
So yeah, I'll update you again.
(upbeat music)
Alright, we just arrived at our accommodations.
Stay here tonight, it's the final night here.
Back at Ashtock Homestead.
I have no voice thanks to the air conditioning on the boat.
- [Receptionist] Robyn.
- Robyn Whale.
- Robyn Whale.
- How was the boat ride?
- To be honest, it was kind of rough.
It wasn't rough, it was just fricking cold,
it was like ice cold, it was like riding an iceberg.
- It was freezing, freezing, freezing, freezing.
I told the guys, like, four times, can you turn the
- It's like so hot now, okay.
- Yeah.
- After being so cold.
- It's like being in a sauna now.
- Yeah, hot cold, hot cold.
- Yeah, it was crazy.
- It was very freezing, our voices.
- Voices.

- Yeah, thanks to the air conditioning.
- It's awesome.
- Sounds like we've been to a massive.

but we didn't.
Anyway, stay tuned, we'll check in,
drop our stuff off, head back out into the town of El Nido.
So stay tuned!
(upbeat music)
- Hey everybody, how's it going?
Quick update for you.
Sorry about my voice.
(clears throat)
The air conditioning was terrible on the boat,
and that's why I don't have a voice.
(upbeat music)
- Alright everybody, quick update.
It is the, whatever day it is,
that I have flashed up on the screen.
Friday night.
And we're off to have dinner here in El Nido,
back in El Nido, I have no voice.
And this one's all dressed up.
Look at her, makeup, pretty eyes, look at her!
(laughing)
Do you have anything to say, Pretty Face?
- I'm hungry.
- She's hungry.
- I'm hungry.
- She's hungry.
- So hungry.
A pita and some Mexican, and some good conversation.
Looking forward to it.
- Me too, me too.
So we're back in El Nido tonight,
we'll go and get some Mexican.
I'll show you that, and I want to show you some of the menus
and stuff like that, and you can price, plan,

What would happen if all birds suddenly disappeared? - Duration: 2:46.
what would happen if all birds suddenly disappeared?
Ask Mao ze Dong he knows best!
During his crazy reign in the '60s & '70s, he had some brilliant ideas.
In addition to erasing Chinese culture
and to sacrificing big chunks of the population
he wiped out the sparrows of China.
During the Four Pests Campaign of 1958–1962,
the population was ordered to kill the following pests
mosquitoes, rodents, flies and sparrows.
The first three of them are somewhat reasonable
as they are carriers for really nasty diseases or plagues
The sparrows were hated, because they picked the seeds after the peasants had sown the fields.
Logically, killing all the sparrows equals higher yields, right?
Let's do it!
It is just an actor!
The people actually hunted the birds by all means
Peasants made a constant noise around trees, to prevent the small birds from landing
The exhausted sparrows just fell down to the ground, as they couldn't find safe places to rest.
It is estimated that 2 Billions of them died in a short time.
With the sudden extermination of the species, a never-seen problem arose.
Indeed, the sparrows were eating a part of the seeds
But, what they actually ate the most were insects – e.g., grasshoppers
After the peasants rid the sparrows overnight – a natural predator –, the number of grasshoppers exploded
Billions of them swarmed over the fields & destroyed whole harvests with their immense appetite.
The crops were bitterly needed during the Great Leap Forward.
and an estimated 30 million persons died
The Grasshoppers made things even worse and it took years to control this special pest.
Even today, the sparrow population hasn't completely recovered.
As you have seen
the vanishment of a single species may cause years of famine
and this is just an example of what happens when man tries to turn the environment in his favour
without taking into account every single detail.
We could list many other examples
For those who wish to do further investigations about this topic,
I suggest to take a look to the introduction of the rabbit in Australia and the 1931 Dust Bowl in america and the cloud seeding.
And what if mankind ceased to exist?
Answer in the comment section below.
That's all for today!
Bye!

Avengers 4 Rumors And Spoilers That've Been Leaked So Far - Duration: 7:57.
Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo went out of their way to implore fans
and critics not to spoil the film's many twists.
So it's surprising that we've already learned a great deal about what might take place in
2019's Avengers 4.
While some potential spoilers are just rumors from questionable sources, others are slip-ups
from Marvel actors, or even appear in official Marvel publications.
Here's a look at all the Avengers 4 rumors and spoilers leaked so far.
Time travel
Leaked set photos from the filming of Avengers 4 have shown actors wearing some vintage outfits
- namely, their costumes from 2012's first Avengers film.
In fact, Marvel has even recreated sets from the film's epic Battle of New York sequence.
This has led many to speculate that Avengers 4 will involve time travel.
"Great Scott!"
And that makes sense.
We know from Avengers: Infinity War that Doctor Strange used the Time Stone to peer into possible
futures and set a kind of plan in motion - and we also know that in his own film, he used
the Time Stone's powers to reverse time and save the world.
Hey, they don't call him The Doctor for nothing!
Hawkeye will become Ronin
Thanks to leaked set photos showing Jeremy Renner wearing some black and gold boots under
his trenchcoat, it's been all but confirmed that Clint Barton will shed the Hawkeye moniker
and adopt the Ronin persona in Avengers 4, something he did in the comics back in 2007's
New Avengers #30.
Renner, of course, was infamously missing from Avengers: Infinity War, after his character
took a plea deal following the events of Captain America: Civil War in order to protect his
family.
Fans are speculating that when Thanos snapped his fingers, Hawkeye's wife and kids were
among the victims, leading him to return to action in his new, dark identity.
Tony Stark builds his own Infinity Gauntlet
The plot of Avengers: Infinity War contained so many shocks and surprises, nobody could
possibly have guessed them all.
Yet an anonymous user on the website 4chan came pretty darn close, correctly predicting
such specific details as the return of the Red Skull, and the fact that Thanos would
sacrifice Gamora to obtain the Soul Gem.
Some believe that the user must have inside sources, so people are paying close attention
to the mysterious user's latest batch of rumors for Avengers 4.
"Iron Man reassembles the Avengers and decides to build his own Infinity Gauntlet to undo
everything that Thanos did.
They recruit Ant-Man to help them travel through time and space using the Quantum Realm to
retrieve the Infinity Stones from different time periods.
Thanos finds out about their plans and becomes hellbent on stopping them.
The movie revolves around the relationship between Captain America and Iron Man."
This claim seems to be backed up by set photos showing Ant-Man alongside 2012-era Cap - or
is it possible the theory is simply based on the photos to begin with?
Hmm.
So what does Anonymous claim will happen with Stark's new Infinity Gauntlet?
Glad you asked…
Professor Hulk will wield the 'Stark Gauntlet'
One piece of promotional art for Avengers 4 has supposedly been leaked online.
Whether or not it's real is a matter of speculation, but a potentially interesting detail is the
portrayal of the Hulk, who is wearing clothes and looks almost human.
This supports fan theories that the internal battle between Hulk and Dr. Bruce Banner that
raged throughout Avengers: Infinity War will end up with the two personalities merging
to create Professor Hulk, a version of the character from the comics that combines Banner's
mind with Hulk's body.
And according to 4chan tipster Anonymous, Professor Hulk plays a vital role in Avengers
4.
"Hulk's subplot centers on Banner and Hulk finally merging to become Professor Hulk.
He is the one that ultimately wields the Stark Gauntlet against Thanos, losing his arm in
the process."
The death of Steve Rogers
The death of Steve Rogers has been rumored and anticipated for years.
Star Chris Evans has been forthcoming about the fact that his contract is up and he wants
to do other things.
Most fans expected Captain America to die during Captain America: Civil War, since that's
what happened in the comics.
So far, though, he's still going strong.
But many expect Steve Rogers to finally meet his end in Avengers 4, and the anonymous 4chan
spoiler claims to know how it's going to happen.
"At one point, Captain America and Thor fight Thanos.
Timeline alterations have restored Mjolnir, and Cap wields it against Thanos to allow
the others to escape, and is killed holding Thanos off."
These are just predictions and rumors at this stage, but the way Cap's arc has been going
seems to indicate that he's going to go out with some kind of grand sacrifice, and dying
in order to save half the universe certainly fits the bill.
Iron Man has a kid
Seeing as this Avengers 4 leak came directly from the mouth of Gwyneth Paltrow, it seems
almost certain that Tony Stark will be a daddy in Avengers 4.
In an interview for the official Avengers: Infinity War magazine, Paltrow revealed that
her character, Tony Stark's longtime love interest Pepper Potts, was destined to become
a mother.
"Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together.
She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now
this decade later they're married, and they have a child.
Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve."
The first question raised here is, "How did this spoiler make it to print in an official
Marvel magazine?"
The second question is, "Does this mean there's going to be a time jump?"
Sure, the baby might be born at the end of Avengers 4 as a symbol of renewal and new
life - and if that happens, bet the house on the kid being named Steve in honor of Captain
America.
But it's also possible that Avengers 4 will start some years in the future, with Tony
and Pepper already parents.
If so, jumping back in time to change the past could carry devastating implications
for Tony: changing the timestream might save half the population of the universe, but at
the cost of erasing his own child from existence.
Group shot
In April, 2018, Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan accidentally dropped a spoiler for Avengers
4 when he revealed there was a scene featuring every character.
"There was one scene, I think, we had where everybody was there.
I can't really talk about that scene, but I knew it took them three months in planning
this scene to have everyone there.
You look around and you just saw everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas
to Michelle Pfeiffer.
Everybody was there."
Stan wasn't the only one who mentioned filming this sequence, either, as Scarlett Johansson
mentioned it as well during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
"I think in one particular scene, there's like thirty-two of us.
There's a lot.
There's so many of us, I don't even know who's a Marvel character and who's like, a crew
member."
Since there was no scene like this in Avengers: Infinity War, it must take place in Avengers
4.
And since Winter Soldier - and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury - both died from Thanos's finger
snap in Infinity War, we have to wonder just how they manage to bring everyone together
at all.
Hmm!
Did Zoe Saldana spoil the title?
Marvel Studios head honcho made it clear early on that the title of Avengers 4 was a closely
guarded secret.
But that went out the window when Zoe Saldana seemed to accidentally reveal the title of
Avengers 4 on the red carpet, saying
"Infinity War is the first part, and we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year."
James Gunn told Yahoo! that she simply had her wires crossed.
"It's not the title.
My guess is that Zoe just misspoke.
I'll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying Infinity
Gauntlet instead of Infinity War."
4chan's anonymous tipster indicated that this wasn't the case, though, writing,
"The title was Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet at one point, but it might be changed after
Zoe Saldana accidentally leaked it."
Back from the dead
The fact that Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther were wiped
out by Thanos despite both having sequels on the way pretty much confirmed that at least
some of the departed heroes will be brought back to life in Avengers 4.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been doing their best to throw us off the scent
by implying that the mass deaths at the end of Infinity War are permanent, but it's hard
to keep up that pretense when many of the actors themselves are contradicting them.
For instance, Drax actor Dave Bautista said
"I got a lot of texts saying, 'I can't believe you're dead, your character is dead.
They were really like heartbroken and I was like, 'I'm gonna be in four, I'm gonna be
in Guardians 3.'
I don't know how they're bringing me back, yeah but somehow I'm going to make it because,
as far as I know, I am going to be in Guardians 3, so I have to be back."
And Zoe Saldana told E! Live From the Red Carpet that being sacrificed by her father
Thanos felt like a "see you later" rather than a true goodbye.
"I knew that we will have to all come back, at some point this fall, and finish up the
fourth installment of Avengers."
We can't wait to see how that finish plays out.

Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling: When everything is a "sincere religious belief" - Duration: 12:17.
Hey everyone, Zinnia here.
Last week's Supreme Court ruling in favor of a homophobic Christian baker who refused
to sell wedding cakes to same-sex couples is very disappointing, and not for the reasons
you might think.
This wasn't a catastrophic blow against the LGBT community – instead, this is a
ruling so narrow that it almost seems evasive.
What it left in place isn't all that great, and what it does address is concerning.
First, the good: The court's opinion does recognize that such religious objections can
conceivably be outweighed by the need for LGBT citizens to be served equally in the
area of public commerce.
Quote:
"The Court's precedents make clear that the baker, in his capacity as the owner of
a business serving the public, might have his right to the free exercise of religion
limited by generally applicable laws."
Continued:
"And any decision in favor of the baker would have to be sufficiently constrained, lest
all purveyors of goods and services who object to gay marriages for moral and religious reasons
in effect be allowed to put up signs saying "no goods or services will be sold if they
will be used for gay marriages," something that would impose a serious stigma on gay
persons."
While this recognition is significant and very important, what little time is spent
on acknowledging LGBT people's rights in such scenarios gives the impression that this
is no more than lip service.
Merely acknowledging that religious beliefs must be weighed against the need for LGBT
people to be free from discrimination in an open market isn't particularly helpful given
that the court's opinion entirely neglected to offer any useful guidance as to how such
conflicts might be resolved.
Rather than engaging with the substantive issues of where religious objections must
end and LGBT rights begin, the court's opinion focused narrowly on the finding that the Colorado
Civil Rights Commission showed "clear and impermissible hostility" toward the "sincere
religious beliefs" of the homophobic Christian baker.
In documenting this "hostility", the court cited remarks on the Masterpiece Cakeshop
case from a member of the commission.
Quote:
"Freedom of religion and religion has been used to justify all kinds of discrimination
throughout history, whether it be slavery, whether it be the holocaust, whether it be—I
mean, we—we can list hundreds of situations where freedom of religion has been used to
justify discrimination.
And to me it is one of the most despicable pieces of rhetoric that people can use to—to
use their religion to hurt others."
The court's opinion construed this statement as directly disparaging the baker's religious
beliefs, quote, "by describing it as despicable, and also by characterizing it as merely rhetorical
– something insubstantial and even insincere."
According to the court, stating that religious grounds had been used to justify atrocities
such as slavery and the holocaust, quote, "is inappropriate for a Commission charged
with the solemn responsibility of fair and neutral enforcement of Colorado's anti-discrimination
law".
This only raises further questions: Would the court not have overturned the lower court's
ruling had the commissioner not made these remarks?
Certainly officials will take this finding as cause to be more cautious in their language
going forward so as not to offend the court's delicate sensibilities.
But is there any way in which officials can point out that religion has been used to defend
the indefensible that wouldn't run afoul of the court's standards in this area?
What kind of language might the court take umbrage at next time?
Embedded in this standard is an assumption that religion functions as an unalloyed good
in society, and that government officials are obligated to act accordingly.
But how would the court expect officials to regard a case where, for example, a business
owner does forthrightly state that their faith entails the belief LGBT people should be routinely
deprived of any and all services that are available to others?
How could officials meaningfully address an instance where a religious business owner
openly admits that, on the basis of their religion, they believe that LGBT people should
be harmed?
An assumption of good faith is a starting point that can be disproven by later conduct;
it is not a perpetual mandate to be upheld even in the face of contrary evidence.
There are no grounds for conceiving of religious faith as universally well-intentioned and
compassionate – the desire to cause harm does not inherently fall outside the scope
of religious views.
Many conservative religious advocacy groups routinely call for disaffirming approaches
and conversion therapy for LGBT people, something which is known to be harmful.
Pastor Steven Anderson of Arizona's Faithful Word Baptist Church infamously made an intercessionary
prayer for President Obama to die of brain cancer, and also voiced the belief that gay
people should be executed by the state.
In what way can agents of the government address cases of religious belief clearly being used
as grounds to hurt others?
This is a significant issue given the court's tacit acknowledgment that some exercises of
religious belief by business owners could indeed place an unacceptable burden on LGBT
people's ability to participate as equals in the public sphere.
How can officials articulate that fact in a way which is acceptable to the court?
The failure to address the limits of free exercise of religion in the context of nondiscrimination
law is especially worrisome given just how broad the category of "sincere religious
beliefs" can be.
An extensive body of case law has established that "religious belief" can encompass
nearly anything, and the sincerity of such beliefs is something that courts may not question
too closely.
To get a sense of just how expansive "religious belief" can be, just look at labor law under
Title VII, which requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for the religious
beliefs and practices of employees.
Based on a 1965 ruling in which conscientious objectors sought an exemption from the draft,
the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's compliance manual states that a belief is
religious if it "occupies in the life of its possessor a place parallel to that filled
by … God".
The manual notes that "religious belief" can consist of "beliefs that are new, uncommon,
not part of a formal church or sect, only subscribed to by a small number of people,
or that seem illogical or unreasonable to others".
"Religion" can also include "moral or ethical beliefs as to what is right and wrong
which are sincerely held with the strength of traditional religious views".
What does this look like in practice?
Under these broad definitions of religion, veganism has been found to be a protected
religious belief in some cases.
Atheism has also been found to be a religion for these purposes.
A claimed "Universal Belief System" followed only by an employee and his mother was found
to be a religion.
Membership in the KKK is *not* considered a religious belief – however, membership
in the "World Church of the Creator", a white supremacist group which reads the
"White Man's Bible", is considered a religion.
In one case, an employer was found to have discriminated against an airline worker who
claimed that an accident on the job was unavoidable because of a dream his wife had.
This, too, was considered a religious belief.
What about the sincerity with which someone holds a religious belief?
This is an important question, because if someone does not actually hold a given belief,
then their free exercise of religion is not being burdened or constrained at all.
Courts do have a valid interest in judging the sincerity of a religious belief, given
that some individuals may dishonestly claim to have certain beliefs for the purpose of
receiving exemptions from the draft, gaining special accommodations in prison settings,
engaging in the illicit trade of endangered animal products, consuming illegal drugs,
and so on.
Courts may examine whether an individual's claims of religious belief may be motivated
not by genuine faith but by nonreligious interests, such as simply wanting to consume drugs or
engage in illicit trade of animal parts for its own sake.
They may also look at an individual's history of religious beliefs and practices, potentially
revealing whether this contradicts their current claims of belief or was adopted only after
the legal advantages of claiming a religious belief became apparent to them.
Yet there are very stringent limits on a court's ability to inquire into the sincerity with
which a religious belief is held.
Many legal scholars, as well as Supreme Court justices, believe that courts have no business
assessing the sincerity with which religious beliefs are held at all.
In her dissent in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg claimed there
is an "overriding interest" in "keeping the courts 'out of the business of evaluating'
... the sincerity with which an asserted religious belief is held".
As Nathan Chapman writes in the Washington Law Review, most scholars endorse Justice
Robert Jackson's dissent in United States v. Ballard, contending that it would be impossible
to judge the sincerity of a person's religious belief without in the process judging whether
their religious belief is plausible or empirically inaccurate.
The latter is considered universally impermissible under what's called the "no-orthodoxy
principle", and if judgment of the sincerity of belief is inseparable from judgment of
the validity of belief, then judgment of sincerity becomes impossible.
As an appeals court stated in a 2014 Title VII religious accommodations case:
"This court has cautioned that judicial inquiry into the sincerity of a person's religious
belief "must be handled with a light touch, or judicial shyness."
… "[E]xamin[ing] religious convictions any more deeply would stray into the realm
of religious inquiry, an area into which we are forbidden to tread."
… Indeed, "the sincerity of a plaintiff's engagement in a particular religious practice
is rarely challenged," and "claims of sincere religious belief in a particular practice
have been accepted on little more than the plaintiff's credible assertions."
One attorney in the area of labor law summarized this as follows:
"The bottom line: If an employee says something is a religious belief, it is."
All in all, nearly anything can be a "religious belief" under the law, and there can hardly
be said to be a high bar for claimants to demonstrate that these beliefs are "sincere".
The expansiveness of "sincere religious belief" only underscores just how wide-ranging
the potential conflict with nondiscrimination protections can be.
This conflict is hardly limited to the issue of finding a wedding cake.
What about children of same-sex parents who could experience mistreatment from school
faculty?
What about trans people who could be denied emergency medical care on the basis of a provider's
anti-trans religious views?
Since the court's ruling, already a state lawmaker in South Dakota has stated that business
owners should be permitted to engage in racial discrimination, and a teacher in Indiana has
claimed that his rights were violated by being required to call transgender students by their
name.
Nondiscrimination protections for the LGBT community can hardly be said to be protections
so long as they have a religious, moral, ethical, or "conscience-based" loophole big enough
for vegans, atheists, racists and dream-prophets to drive a truck through.
It's one thing to acknowledge that the conflict exists and can potentially be resolved in
favor of protecting LGBT people.
It's another to answer the more specific question: how?
That is the answer the court neglected to provide here.

Trump aides plan fresh immigration crackdowns before midterms - Duration: 7:17.
Top aides to President Donald Trump are planning additional crackdowns on immigration before the November midterms, despite a growing backlash over the administration's move to separate migrant children from parents at the border
Senior policy adviser Stephen Miller and a team of officials from the Justice Department, Department of Labor, Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of Management and Budget have been quietly meeting for months to find ways to use executive authority and under-the-radar rule changes to strengthen hard-line U
S. immigration policies, according to interviews with half a dozen current and former administration officials and Republicans close to the White House
The goal for Miller and his team is to arm Trump with enough data and statistics by early September to show voters that he fulfilled his immigration promises — even without a physical border wall or any other congressional measure, said one Republican close to the White House
Among the fresh ideas being circulated: tightening rules on student visas and exchange programs; limiting visas for temporary agricultural workers; making it harder for legal immigrants who have applied for any welfare programs to obtain residency; and collecting biometric data from visitors from certain countries
Details of the ideas are still being worked out, said one White House official. In one of the most closely watched plans under discussion, the Department of Homeland Security has proposed a new rule that former Obama administration officials and immigration advocates worry could be used as an end run around a 1997 court settlement that limits the length of time migrant children can be kept in government custody
"Once you rescind that regulation, then you go back to being able to do whatever you want and the detention becomes the complete discretion of ICE," said Leon Fresco, former deputy assistant attorney general for the Office of Immigration Litigation at the Department of Justice

The president and his top aides have framed the family separation issue as something Democrats could end by signing onto Republican legislation addressing Trump's priorities, including funding the border wall — even though the separation moves are solely the outgrowth of a Department of Justice decision and not grounded in a particular law
Miller, who was instrumental to Trump's early travel ban — which, like the border separations, triggered widespread public outrage and was put into effect without sufficient logistical planning — is among those who see the border crisis as a winning campaign issue
"That is the fundamental political contrast and political debate that is unfolding right now," he said in an interview with Breitbart News published on May 24
"The Democratic Party is at grave risk of completely marginalizing itself from the American voters by continuing to lean into its absolutist anti-enforcement positions
" And some in the Trump administration are not inclined to back down from any of its immigration policies because they've been planning them for more than a year, according to one White House official and a Republican close to the administration
Employment & Immigration 'Grim sight': Migrants await uncertain future at strained Border Patrol facility On Jan
25, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order that called for the arrest and detention of people caught crossing the border illegally — a broad preview of the Department of Justice's April "zero-tolerance" decision to refer all border-crossers for federal prosecution, which has led to the separation of children from parents being sent into criminal courts
Many of the ideas for enacting more aggressive immigration enforcement or tweaking old government rules originated with the White House's Domestic Policy Council, which Miller effectively runs
Other participants in the effort include: John Walk, a lawyer in the White House counsel's office and Attorney General Jeff Sessions' son-in-law; Thomas Homan, the soon-to-retire head of ICE; Francis Cissna, director of U
S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; Gene Hamilton, a former staffer to Sessions and ex-DHS official, who's now at the Department of Justice; and officials throughout the Department of Homeland Security
In his Breitbart News interview in May, Miller specially called for closer examination of H1-B visas, which allow U
S. employers to hire foreign workers for certain specialized jobs. The Office of Management and Budget is currently reviewing a proposal to make it harder for immigrants with visas to obtain permanent residency, including a green card, if they or their children have used government benefits such as Medicaid, food stamps or tax credits
Advocates fear this would keep people from seeking necessary help or medical attention
Defiant Trump refuses to back off migrant family separations The Department of Homeland Security's list of proposed rules, released this spring, offers another roadmap for the coming changes
In one interim final rule, DHS would expand and make permanent a pilot program that allows the agency to collect biometric data — such as fingerprints, photographs or retina scans — from certain foreigners at land ports and some airports and seaports: a move that alarms privacy advocates
"At all of the agencies, there is a steady drip, drip of regulatory and policy changes," said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that favors lower levels of immigration
"It is clear that Congress is unlikely to help them in terms of legislative fixes and will probably not even give them much more money, so they are going to use the tools they have and address these problems
