CRAZY DORITOS - Mexican Dorilocos made Easy - Duration: 5:47.
A little behind the scenes for you, we've just taken some photos, put some extra
worms in there, a few dry chips on the top just to make it look pretty but I'm
loving this stuff. This is kind of what I think Mexican food is all about, sort of
playfulness in Mexican food, a fun sort of levity to everything they do which is
really great.
Crazy Doritos or dorilocos, I love Mexico. One of the things you'll notice
when you get to Mexico is just the fun that people have with the food over
there and I think it's one of the reasons they came up with something as
mad as doriocos. Basically you're taking Doritos, you'll see actually store
vendors in the city over there and they'll have their Doritos hung up, don't be afraid to
go across and asked for Dorilocos, it's heaps of fun and just see what they come
up with there are so many different variations. So today I'm going to do my
version of Dorilocos, you can see what you think, come up with some other ideas,
watch some videos on YouTube, see how they create them on the streets and just
have fun. What can you expect? Well I can tell you not just a plain old bag of
Doritos. First thing they're going to do is either nip the top off of the bag, most
of them just nip the corners off, one on each side like that. Then you just take a
pair of scissors or a blade and just cut across the top and this is what they're
going to use to serve the Dorilocos in and this is where it starts getting crazy.
Different vendors use different things. They almost all start off with a sort of
grated carrot and so you want heaps and heaps of carrot and a version of what is
a little bit like a Swede or a rutabaga or even just grated cabbage will work. We
want to season that with a little smoked paprika or some chili powder, maybe a
little bit of salt in there as well. A little bit of hot sauce as well, the
guy in Mexico City we used to go to had this sort of Maggi seasoning which I
thought was quite nice, a little bit some Maggi in there, this is a sort of salty
Brown seasoning.Yes Worcester sauce, now I think in Mexico they call this
something like sauce d 'anglaise, I can't remember exactly, comment down below and
let me know. A little bit of Worcester sauce in there. Sweet corn, I've fried
this up with a little bit of sweetener in there, some chili powders and some
butter but look at this, how gorgeous does that look. So we've got plenty of
corn in there, you really can't do this without peanuts, they tend to have the
fried peanuts and they also have chili on them but I'm just going with regular
salted peanuts and I'll add a few spoonfuls in. I'm just going to take a lime or
limon, squeeze the juice over the Dorilocos,
top the whole thing off with grated cheese. Some of the more quirky vendors
on the streets will actually top these up with gummy bears and gummi worms, all
sorts of crazy things. So I'm going to go with that, we've got some sour snakes,
we've got some jelly snakes. I'm going to put those over the top of my Dorilocos.
Always served with a plastic fork, this is almost like a family meal, it's super
heavy, I'm sure the bags that we had in Mexico City weren't as big as we have
here in Australia. Get your fork and you've just got to try and get in here
basically, let me see if I can get a Dorito, we'v got a gummy worm there as well.
This is a lot of fun, here goes, man wow that is hot and spicy, I didn't even put
the jalapenos in that I was going to put in. This is really just a dish that you mess
with, I know it looks crazy, actually tastes delicious, that takes me right
back to when I first had this in Mexico City. Lots of fun, share some comments
down below if you've had these before, let me know what they put into your Dor..
loo.. Dorilocos, wherever you were and if you haven't had them, don't be shy, give
it a try it's not that bad actually. Be good and we'll see you for some more Mexican
fun in Steve's kitchen very shortly, take care. Now a lot of you I know probably
won't try this because it is Dorilocos but if you do you're going to have
some fun. Really spicy, the cheese sort of balances it off, a little bit of cheese but
overall really spicy. I put a little extra hot sauce in there and I've added
some, some jalapenos, which I didn't do in the video just now, so I think that's
just kind of lifted up that hot element. It's kind of difficult to get the chips
from the bottom without breaking your plastic fork, maybe you should get your
hand in there and sort of dig them out I don't know but
certainly when they serve this on the streets of Mexico City ,even in Oaxaca,
they only give you a plastic fork. Now this rutabaga or Swede it's really
lovely, there's a Mexican name for this and I forget the exact name for it but
you can check that, maybe I'll put it on the descriptions or on the screen. Now
it's not a breakfast meal, not really even a meal but I am going to tuck in
and completely finish this. Be good everybody, take care, see you again soon.
I'm not sure about the gummi bears or the gummy snakes, I love gummi snakes
but with all that chili, a little bit strange. Oh hot gummy snakes. Yum Yum
A little behind the scenes for you.

Could Freezing Your Body Offer a Chance at Immortality? - Duration: 7:30.
(electronic music)
- [Narrator] I have bad news.
- [Male] You're gonna die, clown.
- [Narrator] Everyone is going to die.
Your best friend, your neighbor,
that mean teacher from third grade, Matt Damon.
- [Male] Just (bleeping) kill me.
- [Narrator] I mean everybody.
As big ideas come, it's a hard one to accept.
But it's not quite as unpopular as another idea.
But you might not need to die.
That's the belief fueling the cryonics movement
whose advocates believe that medical science
will eventually become so advanced that we can
cure all diseases and reverse aging.
In the meantime, they're storing the bodies of the deceased
in tanks of liquid nitrogen to preserve them until they can
be revived at some future date.
- [Female Animated Robot] Reanimation complete.
- [Narrator] Yup, buckle up.
This is On The Fringe, a show about weird ideas
that just might change the world.
- [Max] People have this idea of death as black or white,
like a switch just being flicked.
It's more like there's day and there's night
and then there's twilight, it's kind of a blurring.
- [Narrator] This is Max Moore, CEO of Alcor,
one of the largest cryonics organizations in the world.
- [Max] Back in 1960, if you stopped breathing,
your heart stopped beating,
we'd have checked your vitals and just said,
oh, this person's dead.
We would've disposed of you.
But today, we don't do that.
We say this person will be dead if we don't do something.
So, we do CPR, defibrillation, and various other treatments
and very often resuscitate the person.
So we're making the same point that today,
when we say someone's dead,
what we really mean is we don't know what else we can do
with today's technology.
And the whole point of cryonics
is you don't have to rely on today's technology.
We can take you into a future where we will have
those capabilities.
We just have to develop the technology that can
repair the damage and restart the system.
- [Narrator] Obviously, the challenge here
is that we don't yet have this technology.
And detractors warn it's not clear
we will ever be able to restore those
who have been cryogenically frozen.
But for cryonic supporters, that misses the point.
- [Linda] My mother and my father-in-law
are both in this unit.
And my husband is in this unit.
- [Narrator] This is Linda Chamberlain.
She founded Alcor in 1972 along with her husband, Fred,
a former engineer at NASA's jet propulsion laboratory.
- [Linda] This is our patient care bay
where we have 153 patients in these capsules.
The engineering term for them is dewar.
- [Narrator] So, if you're like me,
you're probably wondering how you can do this at home
to save some money, but that's a terrible idea.
Instead, let's look at how the professionals do it.
- [Max] There are really three main stages to the
cryonics process, the first one being
standby stabilization and transport.
- [Linda] We stabilize them to stop the dying process.
Once they've been pronounced clinically dead,
then they're transported to our facility.
- [Max] The second stage is the surgery.
- [Linda] The patient is brought in through these doors.
They're first placed on this operating table
which becomes the capsule that they will be in.
- [Max] We're going to access the blood vessels
and remove as much blood and other fluid as we can.
And replace them with our cryoprotectant solution.
Kind of a medical grade antifreeze.
The final stage really is to cool down
and maintain the patient at ultra cold temperatures,
in our case minus 320 Fahrenheit.
- [Linda] It's so cold that the atoms are not vibrating.
If they're not moving changes are not taking place.
So they can stay at that temperature
for thousands of years if necessary.
This is a model of these dewars.
Think of it as like a giant thermos.
If you're looking down inside,
around the outside there are four whole body pods
and this center unit comes out and we can get
five neuro patients.
- [Narrator] Neuro patients are Alcor's
term of art for heads.
As in not attached to a body.
Let's unpack that one for a second.
- [Max] Our goal is to preserve the brain structure
more than anything else.
People want to keep the whole body, we preserve that too,
but essentially that's basically replaceable.
You can replace the rest of the body.
We're already regrowing organs and we'll learn
how to regenerate limbs as so on.
The brain, you can't replace.
That's where you live.
That we have to preserve.
- [Narrator] For two hundred thousand dollars,
Alcor members can have their entire body's preserved.
But for $80,000, they'll store just your head.
The distinction is not just about thrift.
Many members think that society capable of reviving them,
might also be able to provide them
with a new biological or robot body.
Or a swarm of nanobots, I think that would be kind of fun.
So we know what cryonics is and how it works,
but what hard evidence exists to suggest
it might be plausible.
- [Max] There is a fair amount
of direct scientific evidence, that what we're doing
under good conditions, does in fact preserve
the structures that preserve our memories and personality.
For instance we have electro micrograph studies
of animal brain tissue that's gone through
the same protocol.
You can show that the structures are intact.
We've also done a study that was published
a year or two ago, that was the first time
it's been done with a whole organism,
albeit, a very simple one.
We took sea elegans, a tiny microscopic worm,
that's been very well studied in biology.
We taught it a very simple task,
basically how to find food based on the chemical gradients.
Then we cryo preserved it.
Held it there for awhile.
Rewarmed it and then tested it against the controls.
We were able to demonstrate that it
not only came back to life, but retained its memory.
There's also a rather dramatic moment
where the first experiment we thought there was
an air bubble in there by mistake,
but it turns out actually after being brought back
from cryopreservation, it was pregnant and
gave birth to it's little babies that went on
their merry way
- [Narrator] We're still far away from
being able to say definitively, whether the promise
of cryonics will pay off,
but for it's most ardent supporters,
it's a bet worth taking.
- [Linda] People are dying.
People that we love.
For us, the very fact that we can cryo preserve
a person, put them into stasis so that
no further damage can happen,
is a whole lot better than being buried or cremated.
There's no hope of being able to
resuscitate you in the future.
- [Max] I think the metaphor of why cryonics makes sense.
You're in an airplane and the pilot's told you,
we're definitely going to crash.
There's no way out of it.
We have these experimental parachutes on board
that have never been tested.
They may or may not work.
Would you be willing to stay on the plane
until it crashes, or just jump out without one,
or you can take one of the parachutes.
What would you do?
When you put it in that context,
the answer's pretty obvious.
I think I'll try out the chute.
So as I jump into the unknown,
but if the alternative is certain death,
it kind of clarifies it, pushes aside all the other issues,
and makes you focus on that.
I really believe that not too far in the future,
we'll look back on today, almost scratch our heads,
and we'll just go, what was wrong with people?
They were throwing people in the ground
to be eaten by worms and bacteria.
Or they're incinerating them,
when they could have given their loved ones
a chance at living longer.
Why didn't they do that?

Vic Mensa Talks About The Mental Health Of Black Men & More | Pull Up - Duration: 10:29.
- Hey, everyone, I'm Jamila Mustafa
and the one, the only Vic Mensa, pulled up.
- I'm pullin' up.
The homies from the Pull Up.
- Alright, I can definitely see why fans support you
and your music, so let's talk about
this Governors Ball. - Governors Ball was dope.
- Now everyone thought, fans were like,
okay here goes our album announcement,
we're waiting, and then they get two songs.
Why did you choose to debut those
at that particular festival?
- Well the energy at Governors Ball was just electric.
It felt like Lollapalooza in '96 or something.
And I felt like Rage Against the Machine and so I wanted to,
I wanted to express myself in such a way
that would make people lose inhibition and,
and tap into something more visceral
and like the primal nature.
So that's why I played those songs.
- Your intelligence definitely comes across
in your music and I think several times
you've been noted as having music
that is lyrical nourishment, musical nourishment.
Does it ever offend you that some of your rap peers
may not take the lyrical as serious
or being titled as mumble rappers,
do you get offended when you're sometimes mixed
into that whole this generation?
- I don't get offended by wack music, you know.
I mean, I think that everybody got they path.
Me, like I said, I make this music from a place of necessity
and I do it to be one of the best, one of the greatest.
I do it so that the things that I've said,
'cause I don't write lyrics down,
but I do it so that things that I said,
they can be written down, and this can be like burned
into pavement, burned into the hearts and the minds
of the people, etched in stone.
So what everybody else does, they have
their own reasons, I have mine.
- Hm, okay, respectable, respectable.
Stand on your word.
Now mental health is definitely a pressing issue
within the community and music industry.
And we're looking at artists
like Kanye West who embraced it.
It was like, look, I'm bipolar, it's my superpower.
But what's your take on mental health
within the music industry?
- It's like, you break your arm and nobody's like,
no, I don't (bleeped) with the doctors, you know?
You going get that cast.
I mean just being born into this world right now,
especially being born black in America is like
they breaking your arm every year
but it's mental straws that are really snapping.
And we've been conditioned in such a way
with the term crazy black man or crazy black woman
to fear that label as a sign of weakness
and as a historical just like, just like wedge
that's torn our families apart.
So we like, no, I'm not crazy, I'm not,
I got this shit, I'm alright.
And the music going to reflect what we are as people
so you see a lot of people in pain,
a lot of people hurt and traditionally the avenues for us
to grow and for us to heal haven't been open
'cause they wanted us to fear ourselves and fear each other.
I try to be transparent about the things
that I've struggled with in my music
because I know somebody's listening
that doesn't necessarily know
that they can be honest about who they are.
And that they can stand with conviction on who they are.
And strive to be the best version
of themselves, strive to be free.
So that's why I put mental health
at the forefront of a lot of my lyrics.
And also because, like I said, that's how I get through it,
that's how I learned from my own thought process
and how I master my own shit.
A lot of time, I can't ever express the things
that I'm feeling really to another person.
They may know me day in and day out
but they never have heard me really say
what they knew I was feeling until I did it in a song.
- Vic, what's been one of the hardest things
that you've had to share in your music?
- Some songs that were difficult for me,
there's a song called Wings that I did with,
with Pharrell and
in this song, I just go into my mind of depression.
Like I go into this self-destructive
dark demon on my shoulder.
And I speak his voice into existence and just
and show how he's always clawing, grabbing,
as I take a step into growth,
I take a step forward, I'm climbing,
this guy is the monkey on my back,
always trying to pull me down.
And so it was difficult, I was in the studio,
I had to kick everybody out of the studio
and I'm just pacing back and forth like screaming at myself,
crying hysterically because it was like
I was really fucking letting all this shit out of me.
So, you know that was hard for me sometimes to listen to.
Same with a record I did called Heaven on Earth
which was about the killing of my big bro.
And somebody who was just really influential
and inspiring to me.
And so I imagine his killer's perspective
as well as his perspective and my perspective.
So that shit hit me emotionally sometimes too.
- And you talk about the monkey on your back
and the weight that one carries at any point
in their life, and no matter who they are.
Why do you think especially for young black men,
they're more reluctant or hesitant to wanna get help.
They don't wanna talk about it in the communities.
What is it especially about black men
that they don't want that help?
- It goes back to, I mean, it goes back to slavery
which was not a choice (laughs).
It goes back to slavery, it goes back to.
I mean Malcolm X's family was torn apart
when his father was killed by clansmen
and DCFS started showing up,
Child Services started showing up.
His mom didn't feed them pork because she wasn't about that.
To Child Services, that made her crazy,
because he has some poor folk that are being choosy.
And clearly he considered them to be beggars,
so that was crazy to him.
So that crazy label on Malcolm X's mother,
over a short period of time, actually tore the family apart,
as they took the kids away one by one
because she was crazy until she actually went crazy
and ended up in a mental institution.
So when you look at the history of that,
and you think about black people being called crazy,
and you know what it's like when they like,
crazy black men, crazy black men.
You can understand why black men
would be particularly avoidant
of mental health issues and addressing them.
Because you don't wanna be labeled in a way
that has been used to tear apart your families,
and tear apart your people, tear down your character.
Even if (bleeped) don't even realize
that that's what's going on.
Sometimes it's like, you gotta, you gotta learn
about why you are the way you are.
I read a book by a feminist writer
named bell hooks, about two years ago.
Shit in the bells hooks' book, We Real Cool,
this was explaining to me why it is
that I'm some of the ways that I am.
She talkin' about how, how traditional avenues
to masculinity was stripped from the black men
and how when slavery ended, it,
all the black people employed were women,
'cause they workin' at houses,
black men didn't handle jobs.
I mean before that, you didn't get to be a father
'cause they take your child and sell them
on a block, on an auction block.
And so through time, we've developed
these different ways of expressing our masculinity,
whether it be Harlem Renaissance and Charlie Parker
and the really, the birth of Cool, We Real Cool.
You know what I'm saying?
So that's how we'd learned our masculinity,
and also, hypermasculinitiy.
So I'm really unpacking a lot of the reasons why
I've been so violent in my life over such petty things.
It's because I wanted to make sure that you understood
I was a man and not to (bleeped) with me.
- Now we have to talk about something
that's near and dear to your heart.
You've been a key player in advocating
for the rights of the Inner City Youth in Chicago
so let's talk about your new organization,
Save Money Save Life, tell us about that.
- That's my foundation and we've been doing
a lot of good work in Chicago. - Yes, Sir.
- Trying to literally stop the bleeding of our people.
It's just that I was built this way
and that's how I was designed.
and the niggas that came before me,
they showed me this path.
They say we take care of our own.
We invest in the hood, we buy back the hood.
We Black Panther breakfast program the hood.
You know what I'm saying?
And so being that, I have an opportunity,
I have some platform, I have access to resources,
then that's what I'm supposed to do.
And that's what I will do, what I have done.
And it's just about taking shit to the next level.
You know what I'm saying?
Because as a member of the community,
I'm from Chicago, and I'm going to Chicago tonight.
And I'm not going to the Hyatt or to the fucking W,
I'm going to the South Side, you feel me so?
I'ma make sure that the South Side is feeling
the impact of one of their sons,
having a big future.
I'm Jamila Mustafa and your boy, Vic Mensa
just skrrt, skrrt, pulled up.
- It's lit-isha, we just pull up.
- He knows my word.

Enterprise NCC-1701-A : Kirk's Punishment for Treason - Duration: 12:19.
What's up lore masters? Today we'll be talking about a specific ship, its lore,
its mythos and the impact the ship has had on the Star Trek universe... and that
ship today is the USS Enterprise in NCC-1701-0A. The enterprise A was commissioned
in 2286 at the San Francisco fleet yards, which may have been a part of the
precursor that became the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The Federation
Council ordered the launching of the Enterprise A in commemoration of James T.
Kirk and his crew who had stopped the whale probe. Oh yeah, you remember that
entire affair when Kirk and crew committed treason and then ultimately
stopped the whale probe. So it's okay and you know they get their own ship because
apparently if you commit treason, but you save the eEarth, everyone's okay with it...
even if the federation is made up of hundreds of other planets who might have
an issue with someone committing treason. Back to the discussion, of course the
Enterprise A would be launched for its shakedown cruise and that cruise did not
go well. And, you know the more I think about it, the more it may show the
politics of the 23rd century. As noted Kirk, committed treason and was given a
ship but this ship couldn't be used at all and this may have been a political
thing. When you think about it, I mean you can't put the man who saved earth in
jail but you could give him a ship... just not a very useful one. What bolsters my
theory is that the vessel itself appeared to be barely operational while
the warp engine still worked. Most everything else did not: communications
doors, consoles, turbolifts and other critical systems constantly
malfunctioned. Quite literally while on the bridge bulkheads and consoles would
randomly begin to explode, with no real rhyme or reason and even though the ship
is orbiting Earth and, well, of course earth is where Starfleet Command is... and
presumably you would have dozens (if not hundreds) of ships at the disposal, the
barely functioning Enterprise A would be ordered to Nimbus 3 to deal with the
hostage situation that was occurring. And this was due to the ship being the only
one with an experienced crew. You know if only they had some form of... um I don't
know a device that would allow you to go from
one place to another. Like where you could transport yourself and others from
one ship to another ship... alas at this time it appears this technology was not
available and because this technology was not available, the Enterprise A would
set course for Nimbus 3. Upon arriving the crew would attempt to
save the hostages and ultimately would have to return to the enterprise itself.
Unfortunately they would be chased by a bird of prey and the enterprise would
have to square off against the enemy vessel and while returning on the
shuttle you would have Kirk, some of his crew and the terrorists attempting to
get to the Enterprise before the bird of prey destroyed them. The enterprise had
to lower its shields so that the shuttle would be able to make it on board. Now
standard procedure was to utilize a tractor beam to pull it in. This would of
course take too long, so the shuttle would have to be landed manually. Sulu
did land the shuttle, to one degree or another, without the tractor beam. Once
the shuttle was landed, the Enterprise would go to warp and ultimately escaped
unharmed. The bird of prey under claw would not be
deterred though. It set pursuit course after the escaping enterprise was
commandeered by the terrorists Eibach who had taken Kirk prisoner after
landing the shuttle oh and the sidewalk is Spock's brother by the by now I'm
gonna take a moment away from this breakdown to discuss cybox ability it is
my understanding that when written Sybok was originally not attempting to utilize
any form of manipulation or mind-control at best he was supposed to be using his
mind-meld abilities to free people from their inner turmoil this apparently
turned them into sick of fans for him and I'm not really sure how there are
explanations outside of Canon resources that would provide why this is happening
but honestly to me it seems like Sybok is using direct manipulation to change
the mind of people that he's making them do it against their will regardless of
what he says and what non alpha canon resources of claim the abilities we see
with Sybok seem consistent with the abilities used by Spock in multiple
instances during the original series and in some of the movies one notable
example that sticks out is Spock's use of the ability in a taste for Armageddon
so while sources might say otherwise and I know that the novelization goes into
it a bit more I do think that Sybok was malevolent here that's my opinion at
least let me know what you guys think the enterprise would set course and
arrived for the center of the Milky Way galaxy
Sybok believe this is where he would find the Shikari or Eden as we know it
for Humanity it was a mythical location where he believed God would be
interestingly enough before this time no one had ever traveled to the center of
the galaxy believing that the great barrier could not be surpassed as probes
never returned or sent back in through but of course they would make it through
and the enterprise would be just fine finding the planet they were looking for
but in fact fans of SF debris will notice this is his icon that he uses
this is actually a picture of the Sun under some kind of different equipment
so they're technically landing on our Sun if you're ever aware of where they
got that image from unfortunately that Klingon bird-of-prey would ultimately
disable the enterprise a because it had followed it and I'm not joking here the
crew were so focused on what was going on they didn't notice an enemy ship show
up on sensors now it showed up on sensors it was clearly there they just
weren't looking at it but the enterprise a would be saved when captain claw was
relieved of command by a Klingon ambassador that had been on the
enterprise itself so that happened as time passed and the Klingon cold war
became more of a stalemate with little to no movement Starfleet would retrofit
its starships with advanced equipment to study gaseous anomalies in interstellar
matter and I do want to take a moment to eat some crow here as well a while back
I did a breakdown of the Battle of Khitomer camp and in that video which
can be found in the top right hand corner I took a potshot and noted an
inconsistency that the Excelsior did have the advanced scanning equipment but
the enterprise did not based on my research here that I've done it seems
likely to me that the enterprise was probably outfitted with this equipment
as well and its mission was probably similar to that of the Excelsior I mean
I don't have any hard or fast evidence but it seems more likely than not that
this was the case now so yeah I was wrong in a video I know it's crazy right
all right let's hit that bumper
hey guys if you like this series where I break down specific ships let me know
this was inspired partly by Eagle moss that sent me their newest excel
collectible the enterprise a you can check it out in the links below welcome
back in 2293 as discussed the enterprise had been
outfitted for advanced research into gaseous anomalies and was about to be
decommissioned the ship would be brought back in service one final time to assist
in the Khitomer Accords the vessel was to escort the Chronos one to earth for
final preparations though there would be a conspiracy that included Romulan
Klingon and Starfleet leadership that would incriminate the enterprise making
it look like the ship had fired on the Chronos one in reality they were being
tailed by a modified bird of prey that was able to fire weapons while cloaked
and it was the one to fire on the Chronos one but unfortunately Captain
Kirk and McCoy were arrested for the murder of the Chancellor when they
played no part in it Starfleet would order the enterprise a back to earth but
this order would be ignored and the crew would begin to investigate discovering
the vast conspiracy to keep the Federation and Klingon Empire at war the
enterprise would enter into Klingon space disguised as a freighter and
rescue Kirk and McCoy they would contact Captain Sulu of the Excelsior and he
would advise the enterprise of the new location of the peace talks and the
enterprise would set course upon arriving at Khitomer the enterprise was
attacked by the modified bird of prey under the command of general Cheng a
full breakdown of this battle can be found in the top right hand corner right
now and I go beat by beat of that fight so check it out the enterprise and
excelsior would defeat the bird of prey and the enterprise itself would be
decommissioned after this battle now we're gonna take a look at the
enterprise a specifically the ship does generally look like its previous design
memory alpha and thus almost every other website will say that it's virtually
identical the one glaring change is the deflector dish now I attempted to find
some in-universe explanation for this change and I wasn't able to though after
talking with the anti trekker the opinion I've come to is that the
deflector dish is the same it just has a special kind of covering put on top of
it from what I can tell this makes sense and seems consistent I mean it's
possible that it's also a modified or upgraded dish but there's no real
evidence beyond the way it looks to assume that
and it would make sense that as time progresses changes like this would occur
in the addition of an outer covering would have many benefits but honestly
there's no real difference between the two that I can tell and there's no real
alpha Canon to explain it I'm going to go ahead and discuss a few of the other
changes or additions and most of this will be according to memory alpha I
looked at some other sources but memory alpha really had the most it is possible
that some of these are a part of the original Constitution class but from
what I can tell it seems too similar the entire layout of the bridge would change
at least three times for the same class and this is because of minor refits
there would be a torpedo Bay on Dec 13 that would have more automation than
that of the original enterprise itself the shuttle bay was located at the rear
of the ship's engineering section now no real change there but it looked like
there would be at least four shuttles in its Bay which I don't believe it had in
the original series there would also be a separate and distinct cargo bay that
was attached the enterprise a would have a vertical warp core a similar one that
would be used 80 years later oh I bet you expect me to say something about the
execs being too greedy and using the sets of the enterprise-d nah I'm not I'm
not gonna do that you know they wanted to use those sets and put it together to
make the two different series jive more and get the original series audience
into the next generation series so I can understand that I don't necessarily have
an issue when you add visual cues that makes sense
unfortunately they don't do that anymore when it comes to Trek there isn't really
much more added to the enterprise that isn't reasonably on the original
Constitution class that I could find I will make an interesting note apparently
handheld phasers that have the ability to disintegrate people and objects were
placed all around the enterprise a like everywhere I mean they had one in the
galley they weren't secured anyone could grab
them I know that space was supposed to be a utopia but I can only imagine the
brawls and fights that occurred if you needed a cook to grab a phaser and he
had to set it to disintegrate to bring peace back to mid time nil break among
the personnel that served aboard the enterprise it would include james t kirk
and spock as commanding officers Spock as the first officer Leonard McCoy as a
chief medical officer Montgomery Scott is chief engineer Sulu Valera and Pavel
check off as helmsman I'll check off as navigator whoo hora as
communications officer and then Spock as science officer for those wanting to be
on Jeopardy the ship was seen three times in Star Trek for the voyage home
Star Trek 5 final frontier and Star Trek 6 the undiscovered country so in essence
it was seen in two Trek movies and one movie dedicated to Shatner as a god oh
and it was referenced by a picture and Star Trek beyond if you consider JJ
burrs the enterprise is a fascinating vessel for me now I'll admit the
original series is fine and enjoyable but it's not my bag I'm more TNG more

DAOKO CONTEST RESULTS - Duration: 5:14.
Hello, friends, this video - the results of the contest of the creative association
daoko
First of all, I would like to thank all the participants for not being too lazy
to post their work.
It's very nice to shake up the editing community of the game.
On this I finish the introduction.
Now we're turn to the top 5 works of the contest!
So, in the fifth place is the editor, whose nickname you now see on the screen.
(Sorry, I cant read)
Quite an original idea and a good fulfillment brought him to the top.
Lets watch!
Well, the fourth place went to the keelas with its worthy dm edit.
In relation to other dm works this video can be called truly original and interesting.
We are in the top three, friends.
Rufflexos opens it with his skills in editing.
Excellent work with smooth transitions, which, among other things, is made with a song of toby.
With the help of his ability to accurately give the mood of the song to the video, the space literally takes off to second place.
Good flow, good moment with a mask, good colors:
all this allowed him to rise so high.
The first place deservedly receives to donny with its simple, but therefore not a bad edit.
It's very cool that even minor sounds are part of the sync.
Let's watch it!
Well, that's all.
Thank you everyone, today's commentator is sprity.
See you soon!

The County Seat - Shortage of Sheriff's in Utah - Duration: 28:51.
When you go to a buffet you
expect that there will always be
enough of each kind of food on
the menu so that your favorite
dish will be there when you go
through the line. But what if
the chef only spends $100 instead
of $200 dollars to make sure that
there is extra food on hand "just
in case". Well, in a way that is
similar to the problem we will be
covering today on The County
Seat. Hi I'm Chad Booth and
hello again. In our scenario,
the buffet is your protection as
a citizen, and the entrees are
the available law enforcement
officers to serve and protect the
community. It seems that we have
not spent enough time and money
in the kitchen, to make sure
there is an adequate force on the
serving line. As a result, law
enforcement agencies have
resorted to stealing from each
other's plate to get the officers
they need. That is the topic of
our discussion today. We will
start today at the supply line,
as there is only one place in
Utah to get certified law
enforcement officers.. The
Academy.. Here is Ria with The
Basics.
hat and join the world of law
enforcement. That is a noble
ambition, in fact, my nephew
followed that path back in
central Illinois. It was very
hard work and required more from
him than his college education
had.
You see, most people think that
to be a deputy all you need to
know is how to shoot a gun, drive
a car fast, tackle the bad guy
and read them their Miranda
Rights. Something that you might
learn in one quarter at a
technical college or by watching
five seasons of Hawaii 50, but in
reality, law enforcement officers
have to wear several hats.
In any given hour of duty they
might have to wear the hat of a
psychologist, a negotiator, a
technical writer, a race car
driver, an expert marksman, a
para-legal, a professional body
guard, and a member of a crack
military patrol squad.
In fact the skills required of a
law enforcement officer are so
specialized that in Utah they are
not offered in any college or
university curriculum, but rather
through only one academy: The
Police Standards Training
Academy.
To get into the main campus of
this specialized school you
actually have to have already
been hired by a law enforcement
agency, and while offering the
course to non-hired students, the
7 satellite academies located at
traditional education
institutions, are still governed
by the academy.
The course is divided into three
certifications. Special function
officer (SFO), Basic Corrections
Officer (BCO) and Law Enforcement
Officer or (LEO). All applicants
have to take and pass the SFO
course to continue. If your goal
is to be a bailiff, reserve
officer, or a constable, this is
all the training you need. From
there, jail officers complete the
BCO and Law Enforcement officers
the LEO.
To pass the LEO course have to be
physically present for at least
588 hours of in class or hands on
instruction. There are topics
you might expect like: Emergency
Vehicle Operations; pedestrian
stop and approach; traffic
accident investigation and report
writing, and topics you might not
think of such as: Crimes against
government; court demeanor and
testifying; natural weapons
defense, or Law enforcement
encounters with citizen dogs!
In addition to all this training,
you will have to be versed on the
entire, Utah Criminal Code,
Homeland security laws, and the
Utah and U.S. constitution. (You
see, it is hard to enforce the
law if you don't know what it is)
To top all of this off you have
to be proficient in first aid and
CPR.
Each student has to sit for and
pass a final exam and meet
additional requirements to earn
the right to wear his or her
badge like: Meet a list of
physical condition requirements
A candidate will have no criminal
record, a valid driver's license
and be a U.S. citizen, and most
important possess a desire to serve
and a passion for justice.
It is not work that will ever
make you money rich, but if you
are the right personality, it can
be oh so ever rewarding. Best of
all, there are no shortages of
jobs for good officers anywhere
you go in the state. In fact
your interest in becoming an
officer will help deal with a
major problem our Sheriff
Departments are having state wide
as we will discuss when we come
back to The County Seat. I'm Ria
Rossi Booth
Welcome back to The County Seat we are
talking today in our discussion part about
Sheriffs as Ria alluded to in her story on POST
there is a shortage, this is not a slight it's a
severe shortage of eligible deputies coming out
of POST and there is not a single county across
the State that isn't looking for extra help in the
Sheriff's Dept. for deputies. Joining us for
discussions about the problems and possibly
the solutions from Sevier County representing
the rural counties Nathan Curtis, the Sheriff of
Sevier County and we have Rosie Rivera the
new Sheriff of Salt Lake County who didn't have
to drive as far but has busy schedule so we will
get our conversation under way so we can get
you guys on your way and on to your day and
thank you for joining us.
So I want to start the conversation by just
asking where do the shortages come from,
spot?
I think a lot of it has to do with that there is a
cultural change where people do not want to be
police officers anymore also the retirement
system changed so there is not a real incentive
when you have to work 25 years and get less
than the person you are working side by side
with that has Tier one state retirement its 20
years and you get 50% but you are working
right next to someone else that has to work 25
years.
So that was a recent change the legislature
went through about 4 years ago did we make
any headway I know it was big topic in the
legislature to try and get that corrected.
We did not get anywhere with that a big part of
it is the public opinion of it. When I was hired
on about 20 years ago that was part of the
enticement to come into law enforcement is
hey in 20 years you can retire and play and that
is why we are going to pay you only 10 bucks an
hour we are going to pay you less now because
you can do that later on. That option was taken
away and so a lot of our officers you are seeing
them not stick around we are losing a lot on the
upper end the bottom end it is hard to get new
people just because of that very reason the
retirement the pay the legislature changing
different things on us.
So are you actually losing officers that have
already gone through POST and been in the
field and thae retirement changed and they go
oh forget this?
They cannot see themselves working 25 years
for a young person 25 years is a long time.
Especially when you hit that 20 years and
partially in this line of work. You have to be
able to run mile and half and got to be able to
scale walls and pull yourself over its not easy
work.
Absolutely, it's just the day to day that is why it
was set originally at 20 years the things you see
and the things you deal with every day tends to
burn out a lot of people and so if they get
beyond that 20 years say 25 to 30 years and you
look at those men and women some of them
are really jaded about how things are done and
they get very burned out we don't become as
effective when we are that way.
So how do we solve the problem I mean we
cannot just go on stealing form each other. I
noticed you guys were like how many deputies
do you have I'm not going to tell you when you
walked in here today.
There are some things we can try and do we can
try to retain the employees that we have which
is still really tough because the job market is
right now anybody can go out and get a job and
make the same as a deputy makes. Right away
so we will have to start raising the pay more
and more and that is what we have been doing
in this crisis is we are all competing and raising
our pay to catch up with the next agency. I am
going to be taking to the Sheriffs a suggestion of
maybe hiring officers at a younger age 18, 19 or
21 but only for jails. Not for the law
enforcement side just to come in the jail there
are some jobs that they can possibly do but that
is a huge change to what we have been doing.
I guess that begs a question why not just wait
until they are 21?
If you wait until they are 21 there is a gap when
they get out of high school they have 3 years
but in those 3 years they either get married
have children find jobs or some of them even
find themselves in trouble and then they cannot
pass a background so if we can get them right
out of high school military does it all the time
and we train them well we should be able to
have them work in a jail. Law enforcement side
is always going to take from the jails. We train
our people very very well and they like that
they like experienced officers to go to the road
if we could even have them for that 3 year
period that still going to help us out. So I guess
the background check is kind of a stunner to me
is that has that significantly changed. Have
other states lowered their standards?
I do not know what other states are doing I
know other states are not quite as intense as
the state of Utah is and what we accept for
offices but I know in the years that I have been
a sheriff it has changed requirements on drug
use, things like that those things have been
loosened little bit so that we can still allow for
that.
Some of the deputies that you have hired today
could not have gotten hired when you got
hired?
Most of the ones I have been lucky enough to
hire I have a couple that were turned down that
were considered but years ago we would not
even accepted their application at all.
Do you think part of this is a problem that the
perception of law enforcement officers people
still think it's like a technical school and training
is that it is like 6 months of training and they
don't realize that you have got to understand
the entire criminal code you have to understand
Homeland Security and all these different areas
of law. Between that and the psychology and
the hostage negotiation it's tougher being a law
enforced officer than it's ever been. Do you
think there is apperception that people do not
understand the skill set is required verses what
they think the job is?
I think people understand what is required but I
think the attitude towards it all across the
board everything from our county
commissioners our state legislatures the
general media and public have perception that
we are not as important or that it's not a good
of career so they are not willing to put the
money or the attitude towards it that this is a
good career and an honorable profession and
we want to have the best people we can.
At some point though it's going to implode isn't
it? At some point if you are losing people to say
oil field security officers because they can make
60 grand a year and there is no way a deputy is
every going to make that and all of the sudden
your shortage will continue to grow until you
are not down 8 but down 25 then people start
getting hurt because there are not enough law
enforcement. Is that what we are going to have
to go to until it changes?
You know I think that law enforcement will
always step up and make sure those
communities are safe but I think he real issues
is going to be in the jails. If you cannot staff a
jail law enforcement side cannot be booking in
then what do you do. We have a situation right
now Salt Lake County jail we are down about 88
deputies right now trying to hire and all the
other agencies around us are taking our people
but they don't realize when you do that it
affects you as well because if we have you put
people in then what happens.
I know you are too gracious to say this but I can
say it so Salt Lake City comes in and they hire
away your jail staff they put them out on the
beat they arrest somebody and send them to
the jail they stole the deputy from and you got
no way to book them. You are having more
problems staffing then the total number of beds
available.
We are having more problems right now with
staffing but we are at full capacity and we have
been for several years.
What is your situation like in Richfield?
I have replaced a fifth of my office in the last
four months. We did a hiring back last October
we had 4 applicants. 4 applicants and only one
of them passed the background and
interviewing process then when we told him
how much his pay check was going to be he
says that's okay I'm going to the prison for $3
more. I wasn't able to hire anybody because of
where we were pay wise. The other thing we
can consider especially when it comes to the
jails when you are that short staffed now you
are going to be paying overtime to cover that
and when you start paying overtime that affects
her budget my budget all of our budgets and
then those guys get burned out as well. Then
when we really need them for other things they
are not willing to come in.
Basically they are done at 15 years instead of 20
or 25.
Right.
How do you fix the problem? I hate to use
magic wand people make fun of me for saying it
too much but if you could write a prescriptions,
that's a new one, if you could write a
prescription to solve the problem hand it to the
Governor and the Legislature and your county
commissioners what would the prescription be?
I would first start with the retirement system.
We have to change something. We cannot
have the same people working in the same
department side by side with 2 different
benefits. We lose people that way we lose our
Tier 2. Also I do believe if we take a look at
changing the age for the jails for corrections
that could help where pay is always an issue we
are always competing with pay and until we
figure it out that is what we are going to have to
do is keep paying and paying more and more
money.
Do we just have to find more money?
Pay is a portion of it. When it comes to a point
where the pay is not the worry then it helps the
work environment so it's a combination of all
the above exactly what we have been talking
about. It's your work environment, it's your pay
its people working on a task force side by side
doing the same job getting completely different
pay those things affect it but also we need to
and I think Sheriff Rivera is exactly right we start
in High Schools a bit and do a law enforcement
class and they also learn that I have to wait 3
years and go do something else in the
meantime and those things happen and we
have to continue that progression all the way
from high school find way to keep them
involved in what they are doing and excited
about it and continued hat process. So pay is a
big part retirement is a big part but work
environment is a big deal and we need to
continue that process.
So there you go the prescription has been
written all you legislatures you need to pick it
up study it and look at thank you so much for
your input today we are going to come back
with the County Seat in just a minute we are
going to go on the ground in one county to find
out how a deputy shortage actually affects their
day to day operation. Stay with us we will be
back on The County Seat.
Welcome back to The County Seat.
So far today we have looked at
how we get a pool of qualified
through the POST Academy which is
required whether you are hired or
elected as a sheriff. It is
important to note that while most
POST certifications are paid for
by the hiring agency, people can
get the certification on their
own. We have also examined the
causes of the shortages and
explored some possible solutions,
but to consider the impact of
what a shortage does to an agency
and the community, we need to go
On The Ground.
Hello I am Sheriff Mark Gower with the Iron
County Sheriff's office in southern Utah My job
is to patrol the unincorporated areas of Iron
County as well as operate the county
correctional facility,
So one of the main issues we have within the
state of Utah is that state wide the officers are
down 600 throughout the state agencies have
that open and void area to try and fill 600 slots.
Where we have lost some deputies both to
corrections and patrol to agencies that are
offering these incentive packages and it's
created a deficit of employees here that has
resulted in lots of overtime for deputies both
corrections and patrol that are working. And
general staffing shortages that put in the long
run public safety as issue because we are not
running at full staff and employees are starting
to get burned out because they are working so
much.
So here is where we control all movement
within the correctional facilities as far as the
inmates and corrections deputies. Staff
shortages over here have resulted in a lot of
overtime costs. And employee's correction
deputies are working more hours then they
really should be because of shortages. Its tough
on them when they are away from their families
that much they get burned out. It just has an
effect on them eventually they want to see a
light at the end of the tunnel where they cannot
put in so many hours but as far as them doing
their job and doing it well that's still in place
they still come to work each day with their
game face on and are ready to go to work.
Some of them are working in a two week period
are putting in upwards of 150 hours in a two
week period to cover the staff shortage over
here
It's a struggle there are a lot of things that
contribute to it, I think on a local level we are
doing everything we can to attract people in to
this profession. But again its going to come
down to our senators and our representatives
in state government listening to law
enforcement leaders.
We have a plan moving forward to keep
recruiting and retain employees because in the
long run we lose employees it an expense to the
tax payer. It costs the tax payer money when
we have to re train. Our incentive is to maintain
and retain our employees so that's not a burden
to the tax payer.
We'll be right back with my final
thoughts on The County Seat.
Welcome back to the County Seat
If you are like me, the
conversation about law
enforcement shortages usually
only comes up on the radar scope
when there are budget fights at
the county and I interpret the
warnings of county leaders saying
that "without increased spending
there will be staff reductions at
the sheriff's office" as a hollow
threat to get support for tax
increases. I interpret it as a
scare tactic.
But as we have seen today, the
impact of not having the right
compensation along with a culture
of support for law enforcement in
a community, will eventually lead
to no one being available when
danger comes to your house. We
spend oodles of money on
education, as well we should, as
Sheriff Curtis pointed out, but
how much less important is our
safety at home and our
responsibility to justly punish
those who are incarcerated?
Maybe the old library is fine for
right now.. maybe the old swing
set at the city park will do.
Those seem like problems of
privilege in comparison to our
safety as citizens in town, on
the street and in our own back
yard. Wherever we live in Utah,
we should all want well trained
people to protect us, we should
want to be picking the cream of
the crop of people with a desire
to serve instead of scraping the
barrel.
After all, we grant them power to
detain us, we grant them power to
restrain us, we even grant them
the right of lethal force to
execute their duties. Don't we
want the people in those
positions who are equipped of the
best temperament and training to
apply those powers judiciously?
I would hope so. To bring this
into focus, this is not a problem
in someone else's county, this is
a problem in yours. It is
currently affecting every county
in the state.
So it is time for us to delve
into this as responsible citizens
and advise our elected
representatives as to how to
proceed. And that is my two
cents worth for today. Thanks
for watching, we will see you
next week on The County Seat.
