I'm Comin Out, I Want The World to Know, Gotta Let It Show.
Hi, I'm Shelly and Welcome to the, Pride Rewind Tag!
I have no idea if I actually came out on this channel.
If you haven't worked out by now, I'm slightly Queer, just a smidge...... like a lot.
I haven't been tagged, but I'm precocious and I wanted to do it.
So here are 5 questions about my Pride History.
Question 1, How do you identify?
Gender wise I am a woman, I go by her and she pronouns,
Sexuality wise.....is a mess.
So for awhile I was bisexual, then I switched to pansexual because that covers a lot more, humans. Basically you're attracted to humans in general.
Now I tend to go the identity as Queer, I know a lot of people find that offensive.
I personally use it because it covers spectrums, because basically I am attracted to humans.
Question 2. Share a story of you doing something, that hinted to everybody around you, that you were Queer?
Going to Pride!
I did not figure out I was Queer, till quite late in my teen years.
The first indication to everybody was the fact that, I went to my first Pride.
I hadn't come out yet, I just decided to go. My mum knew I was going.
Then slowly over the years, I talked about going to Pride every year.
That was my way, of sort of, coming out to the rest of my family.
My dad's reaction to me coming out was 'Yeah, I kinda gathered that, you keep going to Pride'
Question 3. When was the first time you had an inkling that, you were different?
Looking back now, at past Shelly. Let's face it, I have been different since I was born.
I have liked women since I was born, but the first time I was really aware of it.
Would have been my first year in high school. Although all the girls wanted to kiss the boys.
I was looking at the girls going, yes but I'd actually rather kiss you, you're rather pretty.
1 girl specifically in my class, I had a major crush on. I was very confused because I didn't know bisexual existed.
I didn't know you could be attracted to both genders. So although I liked the boys, I also liked girls.
And I was very, very confused because I obviously wasn't gay. So what was i?
Question 4, When did you first learn about being gay?
Growing up in the 80s and 90s there were people like Julian Clary and Lily Savage on the telly.
There would be gay comedians, there was Dale Winton, the lovely Dale Winton who passed away recently.
I would ask 'Why do these men act differently to the rest of the men on the telly??
It was explained that they were Gay. But I didn't really know what Gay meant.
There were no lesbians on the telly, I later found out that Sandi Toksvig was a lesbian.
So she was lesbian on the telly. But I didn't really ask questions about that I guess, so i didn't know.
It wasn't until..... this is why I identify with the word Queer.
Because it wasn't until Queer as Folk came on the telly, that I was just like....
So that's what gay is.......
I wasn't really aware of the whole gay community. Till I went to my first pride, and was just like.
Right that's it, I have found my people! That's when I truly became aware, but this is talking like early 20s.
I was a really late starter
Question 5, Who was your first, celebrity Queer crush?
Past Shelly had no idea, really, really no idea, why she was staring at Lindsey from B'witched,
Thinking, my god your pretty! Can I hold your hand.
Teenage Shelly, who realized her heart du du du dummm.
With Holly Combs and Jewel Staite. Holly played Piper, the middle sister, on Charmed.
And Jewel Staite played the wonderful Kayley in Firefly.
I saw those 2 women, and I just thought. Can I have them please?
I thought they were the most beautiful women on the planet! I still think they're the most beautiful women on the planet.
Question 6, find 4 people to do this tag.
I am tagging, Carl from JuiceMyRandomness, George Lester,
Ren from RenOnTheRoad and Adrianna from Perpetual Pages.
But I am also tagging all of you, if you are Queer, if you are Gay, if you are Trans.
If you just feel like doing this tag, I'm tagging you.
It's Pride Month people! I did have a rainbow flag, but I can't flippin' find it.
Which is driving me slightly crazy! I think I've left it at my mum's.
Because where else would you leave a rainbow flag.
Please leave the link to your tag down below, I want to go watch it!
Because I find it fascinating how brains, discover that they like other people.
Because I didn't for such a long time. I didn't know, whether I was in denial.
I don't know if I was hiding it, I don't know whether I too much else is going on in my brain?
Which is what I think it was.....
I hope you guys are good. Happy Pride Month!
With all the love to everybody out there. and I will see you guys soon.
Byeeee
