Waching daily Jun 21 2018

We have purged your fear.

You are ready to lead these men.

You are ready to become a member of the League of Shadows.

But first, you must demonstrate your commitment to justice.

No.

I'm no executioner.

Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share.

That's why it's so important.

It separates us from them.

You want to fight criminaIs. This man is a murderer.

-This man should be tried. By whom?

Corrupt bureaucrats?

CriminaIs mock society's laws.

You know this better than most.

You cannot lead these men...

...unless you are prepared to do what is necessary to defeat evil.

And where would I be leading these men?

Gotham.

As Gotham's favored son...

...you will be ideally placed to strike at the heart of criminality.

-How? -Gotham's time has come.

Like Constantinople or Rome before it...

...the city has become a breeding ground for suffering and injustice.

It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die.

This is the most important function of the League of Shadows.

It is one we've performed for centuries.

Gotham...

...must be destroyed.

You can't believe in this.

Ra's al Ghul rescued us from the darkest corners of our own hearts.

What he asks in return is the courage to do what is necessary.

I will go back to Gotham and I will fight men like this...

...but I will not become an executioner.

Bruce, please.

For your own sake, there is no turning back.

-What are you doing? -What's necessary, my friend.

Batman vs Ra's al Ghul Train Fight | Batman Begins (2005) Movie Clip - Duration: 5:00.

Distance to Wayne Tower, three miles.

The pressure's moving along the mains, blowing the pipes.

If that pressure reaches us...

...the water supply right across the whole city is gonna blow!

At the next intersection, turn right.

You will never learn.

Sorry.

-Familiar. Don't you have anything new? -How about this?!

You have arrived at Wayne Tower.

Evacuate the building.

We're on top of the main hub and it's gonna blow.

Weapons system activated.

Nice ride.

Armed.

Don't be afraid, Bruce.

Come on. Come on.

You are just an ordinary man in a cape.

That's why you couldn't fight injustice, that's why you can't stop this train.

Who said anything about stopping it?

Yes!

You never learned to mind your surroundings!

Have you finally learned to do what is necessary?

I won't kill you...

...but I don't have to save you.

[MUSIC]

GINGER: AS BEAUTIFUL AS A BIRD'S EYE VIEW CAN BE,

IT'S LIMITED.

IT'S DETACHED AND DISTANT.

AFTER YEARS OF DRUG USE, CARY SANDERS' RELATIONSHIP

WITH GOD FELT THAT SAME WAY.

BUT ONE NIGHT, HUDDLED IN A SLEEPING BAG ON THE STREET IN

28 DEGREE WEATHER, SHE CRIED OUT TO GOD AND HE WAS THERE.

CARY: AND YOU KNOW, THE TRUTH IS IS I CHECKED OUT OF LIFE

RIGHT THEN.

I DIDN'T CARE IF SOMEBODY WOULD'VE CAME BY AND KILLED ME,

OR RAPED ME, OR KIDNAPPED ME.

I MEAN, THAT'S WHERE I WAS AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME.

I WAS, LIKE, DONE, AND I COULDN'T DO IT ANYMORE.

AND I CRIED OUT TO GOD AND I SAID, "YOU'VE GOT TO HELP ME

OR KILL ME, 'CAUSE I CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS.

I JUST CANNOT DO IT ANYMORE."

GINGER: DETERMINED TO CHANGE HER LIFE, SHE ENTERED

A DRUG REHAB PROGRAM CALLED WINGS OF LIFE.

CARY: EVEN WHEN I GOT HERE AND I HAD NO HOPE AT ALL, AT

ALL, I HAD NO HOPE BECAUSE I HAD JUST, YOU KNOW, DONE SO MUCH.

I WAS JUST SO BURDENED DOWN WITH WHAT I HAD DONE TO MYSELF

AND MY SON.

BUT GOD MEANT ME RIGHT WHERE I WAS.

I TOLD HIM WHAT WAS IN MY HEART.

I SAID, "YOU KNOW, I WANNA BELIEVE IN YOU 100%, BUT I HAVE

SO MUCH DOUBT, I HAVE SO MUCH UNBELIEF, I HAVE SO MUCH

BROKENNESS IN ME," AND HE JUST KEPT MEETING ME RIGHT WHERE

I WAS.

AND THE MORE I READ MY WORD AND THE MORE I PRAYED TO HIM,

HE JUST KEPT MEETING ME, AND MEETING ME, AND MEETING ME.

GINGER: EVEN THOSE PLACES THAT YOU THOUGHT GOD WOULD

NEVER BE.

CARY: EXACTLY, LIKE IN A DUMPSTER, YEAH.

IN A DUMPSTER.

GINGER: YEAH.

YOUR LOWEST POINTS.

CARY: IN A DUMPSTER.

YOU CAN'T GET MUCH LOWER THAN BEING IN A DUMPSTER.

AND THE TRUTH IS IS I FELT LIKE TRASH.

I HAD NO PROBLEM CLIMBING IN A DUMPSTER BACK THEN BECAUSE

THAT'S THE WAY I FELT ABOUT MYSELF.

I COULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT MYSELF IN THE MIRROR.

I HATED MYSELF FOR WHAT I HAD DONE TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY,

AND MOST OF ALL, MY SON.

GINGER: WHERE YOU WERE WHEN YOU FOUND THIS IS REALLY WHAT'S

SO EXTRAORDINARY, AND YOU DIDN'T REALLY PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

AT FIRST, DID YOU?

CARY: NO, I DIDN'T.

NOT AT ALL.

I PROBABLY HAD BEEN REALLY WALKING WITH THE LORD AND SAVED,

AFTER GETTING HERE TO WINGS OF LIFE, ABOUT 6 MONTHS.

AND I REMEMBER I SAT ON THIS VERY BED, AND THE LORD GAVE ME

LIKE A VISION, ALMOST LIKE A MOVIE PLAYING IN MY MIND.

HE BROUGHT BACK TO MY REMEMBRANCE ABOUT 9 MONTHS

BEFORE I CAME HERE TO WINGS, AND I WAS IN A DUMPSTER.

IT WAS LIKE 2 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING,

I WAS REALLY HIGH ON DRUGS, AND I WAS DIGGING, DIGGING,

DIGGING THROUGH THE DUMPSTER, AND I CAME ACROSS THIS BOOK.

AND I REMEMBER LOOKING AT THE BOOK, AND SETTING IT TO

THE SIDE, AND THEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO GET OUT OF

THE DUMPSTER, I GOT THE BOOK AND PUT IT IN MY BACKPACK FOR

SOME REASON.

AND IT SAT THERE FOR 9 MONTHS UNTIL I CAME HERE TO WINGS.

I BEGAN TO READ IT EVERY DAY, REALLY HAD FORGOT WHERE I EVEN

GOT THE BOOK AT UNTIL THE DAY, YOU KNOW, I SAT ON THIS BED

AND HE SHOWED ME.

AND HE SPOKE TO ME AND SAID, "I WAS WITH YOU IN THE DUMPSTER

THAT NIGHT, AND I NEVER LEAVE YOU AND I NEVER FORSAKE YOU."

GINGER: BECAUSE THIS IS ONE OF JOYCE'S REALLY OLD BOOKS.

I MEAN, THIS IS ONE OF HER FIRST DEVOTIONALS.

SO, GOD HAD THIS ORCHESTRATED FOR YOU FOR A LONG TIME FOR THAT

BOOK TO BE AT THE RIGHT PLACE FOR YOU.

CARY: AT THE RIGHT TIME.

ISN'T THAT AMAZING?

IT BLOWS MY MIND.

YOU KNOW, AND I WONDER, I MEAN, IT WAS ALL PART OF GOD'S PLAN,

BUT SOMEBODY THREW THIS BOOK AWAY.

I'M LIKE, WHY?

YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? WHY?

BUT IT ALL HAPPENED LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO, WHICH IS

REALLY COOL.

Ra's al Ghul Burns Wayne Manor | Batman Begins (2005) Movie Clip - Duration: 4:58.

When I found you in that jail, you were lost.

But I believed in you.

I took away your fear, and I showed you a path.

You were my greatest student.

It should be you standing by my side, saving the world.

I'll be standing where I belong.

Between you and the people of Gotham.

No one can save Gotham.

When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable and natural.

Tomorrow the world will watch in horror as its greatest city destroys itseIf.

The movement back to harmony will be unstoppable this time.

-You attacked Gotham before? -Of course.

Over the ages our weapons have grown more sophisticated.

With Gotham we tried a new one. Economics.

But we underestimated certain of Gotham's citizens...

...such as your parents.

Gunned down by one of the very people they were trying to help.

Create enough hunger and everyone becomes a criminal.

Their deaths galvanized the city into saving itseIf...

...and Gotham has limped on ever since.

We are back to finish the job.

And this time no misguided idealists will get in the way.

Like your father, you lack the courage to do all that is necessary.

If someone stands in the way of true justice...

...you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart.

-I am gonna stop you. -You never did learn...

...to mind your surroundings.

Justice is balance.

You burned my house and left me for dead.

Consider us even.

No one comes out. Make sure.

They're all gone?

-How many from maximum security? -Every one of them.

Serial killers, rapists.

Raise the bridges. We don't want any getting off the island.

Yeah, I'll raise the bridges...

...when I get every available unit out here to catch the homicidal maniacs...

-...that are running loose out there. -Come on!

I hope you're not a member of the fire brigade.

Master Wayne! Master Wayne!

What is the point of all those pushups if you can't even lift a bloody log?

What have I done, AIfred?

Everything my family...

...my father, buiIt....

The Wayne legacy is more than bricks and mortar, sir.

I wanted to save Gotham.

I failed.

Why do we fall, sir?

So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.

You still haven't given up on me?

Never.

Top 5 Alexa Skills for Everyday Use! - Duration: 3:20.

Hi, I'm Sarah from Technicool and these are my top Alexa skills for everyday life.

Let's get started

Starting at number five is the time function

All you have to do is ask Alexa what time it is and she will tell you.

It's a simple and basic skill,

but useful for when you can't find your watch or your phone

At number four is the alarm function.

This skill has many different variations for setting the alarm

Now you can set a regular alarm to wake you up at 6 a.m

For the next day, or for every weekday, or for the weekend, or everyday!

You can also ask her to wake you up to a particular genre of music or a radio station.

You can set several alarms if needed.

At number three we have the shopping list function.

This skill allows you to make a shopping list at any time

All you have to do is ask Alexa to add whatever you need to your shopping list

"Alexa, add milk to the shopping list"

You can ask what's on the shopping list, or you can also remove items from it as well.

And that's a fairly new feature there.

You can find your shopping list in the Alexa app and check things off as you go

At number 2, we have the reminder function.

you can set a reminder for every day, weekday, weekend,

or a specific day like Tuesday.

You can also tell Alexa what time you want to be reminded at.

All you have to say is:

Sarah: "Alexa, Remind me every Thursday at 4 p.m. to be awesome."

Alexa: "Ok, I'll remind you every Thursday at 4 p.m."

Sarah: And that's how you make reminders

And finally , at number one, is the timer function.

We use this skill all the time.

You can make several timers at once.

She can manage probably up to a hundred timers or alarms.

It's best that you give each timer a name.

So all you have to say is:

Sarah: "Alexa, set the cookie timer for 15 minutes."

Alexa: "Cookie timer, fifteen minutes, starting now."

Sarah: If you have multiple dishes you can set a timer for each dish.

Now you can ask her: "Alexa, what are my timers?"

Alexa: "You have 14 minutes left on your cookie timer."

Sarah: And she will tell you exactly how much time is left

If you have an echo show all the timers will appear on the screen, as well.

And that's it, we hope you guys enjoyed this video, and if you did make sure you like and subscribe.

We will be coming out with more videos like this each week.

If you want to learn more about what we've done already or what we reviewed and have instructions on,

make sure you check out our website at Technicool.com

That's it for now, bye!

What's next for kids Trump separated from their families? - Duration: 3:49.

Seems pretty clear that the government is doing this to intimidate, to scare, to terrorize people.

in an effort to prevent new people from coming to the United States.

We're signing an executive order.

It's about keeping families together.

You're gonna have a lot of happy people.

The overwhelming majority of people who are being caught illegally crossing are being criminally prosecuted.

And so in that context we are seeing family separation where the kids are being taken away.

The other area of family separation is for people who are following the law.

Who are walking up to immigration officers and saying,

I want asylum in the United States.

What the government is doing in that case now,

is separating, not in all instances, but in many instances, separating individuals that are following the law.

Separating them from their children.

And moving the kids into detention facilities elsewhere in the country.

And that is leading to all sorts of practical problems.

The kids will initially be in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security.

The law says that within 72 hours

if the kid is going to continue to be detained,

that kid is supposed to be turned over to the office of Refugee Resettlement.

O.R.R.

So when you go into O.R.R custody as a child,

depending if you are old enough to take care of yourself

up until age, you know just under age 18.

you are going to be in a group home of sorts

youth detention center.

If a child had a contact for a family member in the United States,

and this could be an aunt and uncle,

it could be a cousin.

Rather than detaining the child in an O.R.R facility,

the agency was obligated to try to place that child with a family member.

If you are a special needs kid,

if you are an infant,

if you are a toddler,

what O.R.R regulations say is that you are supposed to be placed in an individual foster care family.

Children, regardless of age, they are not allowed to remain indefinitely in the United States.

If they can be deported, they will be.

That process could be completed in days or weeks.

It's simply a matter of backlog with that particular immigration court.

A child is not supposed to be deported to another country,

until U.S officials are able to ensure that there is a parent or family member in the receiving country to receive that child.

And in the absence of that, U.S immigration authorities are supposed to work with the counterpart of child protective services.

in the destination country.

To what extent that is happening is unclear.

The system is clearly overwhelmed right now.

What If The Indoraptor Was Real? - Duration: 5:20.

Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is released worldwide on June 22nd, and despite some lukewarm

reviews, people are still pretty excited to see what dinos we have in store.

But one dino is of particular interest: The Indoraptor.

This is the new hybrid dinosaur, following in the footsteps of the Indominus Rex from

the first film.

If you haven't seen our video on Indominus Rex, we'll link that down below, but for

today, let's imagine what the world might look like if the Indoraptor was real.

Now, this is being filmed before the film's release, so it will be based on the information

available prior to release, but that should be more than enough.

If you want more What If videos, check out our "Biggest What Ifs" playlist on the

channel.

Now get ready, it's time to ask the question: What if the Indoraptor was Real?

If you watched our video on the Indominus Rex, you'll know that it was an unholy amalgamation

of numerous different creatures, including both dinosaurs and modern animals.

These granted it significant advantages over other dinosaurs, with many of the best qualities

of each species.

Well, unfortunately, things just got worse.

Because Dr. Wu is at it again.

He extracted DNA from one of the bones of Indominus Rex, and combined it with DNA from

everyone's favourite velociraptor, Blue.

This means that the Indoraptor would have similar abilities to Indominus Rex, with enhanced

strength, speed, and intelligence, as well as camouflage and body temperature regulation.

Physically, the indoraptor could easily be confused with the Indominus Rex at first glance,

but there are some significant differences between them.

The Indoraptor is smaller than Indominus Rex, just half as long and a quarter the height,

standing just 10 feet tall.

It's mostly black in colour, with a yellow streak from its neck to its tail, similar

to that of Blue.

It also has claws more similar to those of a raptor.

It has been said to be the last Hybrid in the franchise.

At least, the last one in this version of the franchise.

In terms of personality, the Indoraptor seems to be incredibly bloodthirsty.

It was modeled after Frankenstein's monster, with the terrifying sadness of rejection.

It would be incredibly savage and dangerous, both on screen and in real life.

A true killing machine.

Alright, now that we know a bit about the creature, let's imagine a world where the

Indoraptor really existed.

Of course, the existence of this creature would have different effects depending on

the time period in which we were looking.

For this reason, this video will look at three different settings.

First, we'll imagine how it would fare in prehistoric times alongside other dinosaurs.

Second, we'll imagine its effects on early humans.

Finally, we'll discuss the implications of its existence in the modern day.

Starting off in Prehistoric times, it's pretty clear that Indoraptor would be a dominant

hunter.

They would likely hunt in packs, like velociraptors, and would take advantage of their high level

of intelligence to outwit the other far less intelligent dinos.

They would be superior both physically and intellectually, able to attack with stealth,

teamwork, or brute force.

However, when the Cretaceous-Palaeogene extinction event came around, they would likely die alongside

the other dinosaurs.

Next, let's look at how Early humans would have fared against the Indoraptor.

If the Indoraptor was alive at the same time as the first humans, there's a chance that

humanity would never come to exist at all.

Even assuming that no other dinosaurs existed alongside them, they would be highly dangerous

to our ancestors.

Even a single one could probably take out a whole group of early humans, thanks to its

incredible strength, speed, and abilities.

That said, they wouldn't only harm us directly.

Early humans would also be competing with the indoraptors for food, since both diets

relied largely on meat.

Since the Indoraptor would be a far better hunter than humans, it's likely that they

might have the monopoly on the food supply, eating many of the animals that our ancestors

would have consumed.

This would mean that those humans who managed to avoid being killed by an Indoraptor might

depend significantly more on plants and seeds than meat.

Of course, early humans already did live primarily on veggies, but this would further limit our

access to meat.

This would greatly affect future generations, and perhaps lead to a number of evolutionary

changes.

Not only would our teeth possibly change, in order to better accommodate our more vegetarian

diet, but we might gain certain adaptations to allow us to avoid or kill Indoraptors.

In time, if we managed to survive, we might invent technology to better deal with the

creatures.

However, there remains a pretty good chance that we would simply be wiped off the map.

Luckily, the outlook would be significantly rosier if they appeared in the modern age.

If Indoraptors existed in modern times, they would likely be hunted near-extinction pretty

quickly.

Not only would they be targeted by hunters looking for an awesome trophy; they'd also

be killed frequently when they inevitably attacked people.

Those traveling through Indoraptor territory would be armed to the teeth, and prepared

to deal with them.

As we saw in the trailer, they seem to be relatively immune to bullets, but with a high

enough caliber, or explosives, or even biological agents, they could be neutralized relatively

easily.

Technology is useful that way.

However, there's a good chance that we would manage to capture some of them.

This would be good both for their safety and ours.

We could then build a sanctuary where they could live, and be viewed by the public.

Kinda like a certain dinosaur franchise.

Only in real life, we wouldn't let them escape.

Because that's just careless.

And now we return to our question: What if the Indoraptor was Real?

Well, that would largely depend on when they existed.

If they were just alive in the time of the dinosaurs, they would without a doubt be the

dominant species, thanks to their physical attributes and abilities.

If they happened to coincide with the existence of early humans, they would eat a bunch of

us, as well as a lot of our food, forcing those who survived to rely on a more vegetarian

diet.

And if they suddenly appeared in modern times, perhaps due to genetic modification, they

would be highly dangerous, and would likely be hunted down near extinction.

However, we might be able to capture some, in which case we could build the most hardcore

animal sanctuary on the planet.

Thank you for watching Life's Biggest Questions, I hope this was interesting and informative,

and maybe even inspired you to look into it further on your own.

If you liked this video, please thumbs up and subscribe to the channel down below.

While you're down there, let me know who you think would win in a fight: the Indominus

Rex or the Indoraptor?

Until next time, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey with Life's Biggest Questions, wishing you

the best of luck, on your quest for answers.

Biomedical & Industrial Engineering: Crash Course Engineering #6 - Duration: 10:27.

From imagining what it might be like to create our own city, to learning about the chemicals that go into our food,

we've already covered a good amount of engineering history.

Civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical are the four main branches of engineering.

But there are many others!

Some have been around for centuries, while others have developed more recently and are rapidly growing.

Some have even broken off of existing branches and are quickly becoming their own fields.

One example of this is aerospace engineering, which handles the design and construction of air and spacecraft.

This was a natural progression from mechanical engineering, as we started creating machines that could fly.

Another example is environmental engineering, which uses engineering practices, soil science, biology, and chemistry to help find solutions to environmental problems.

We'll cover these and others in more detail later on, but for now let's focus on two of the more prominent disciplines of engineering: industrial and biomedical.

After we learn about the history of these two branches,

we're going to see what it would take to use both of these fields to build and design a fully-functioning artificial limb.

So stick around!

[Theme Music]

Industrial engineering has been around as long as we've had factories and other engineering systems.

Just as mechanical engineers work with a bunch of different parts to design a machine,

industrial engineers work with many different elements to devise an efficient system.

And it's not just the machines they have to think about.

They also have to consider the workers, materials, energy flow, and communication that are needed to provide the best product or service.

Other branches of engineering often take apart each system and analyze all of its parts separately, before putting a system together.

But industrial engineers do things a bit differently.

They look at the system as a whole first and then move on to see how the different parts work together.

Then they can focus on the specifics to achieve the best results.

It's all about optimization.

And one of the most important areas that industrial engineers try to optimize is the assembly line.

It's where we can see the biggest improvements in quality, delivery time, and cost.

The drive to optimize the assembly line is why many factories have switched over to more automation instead of manual labor.

And it's caused the idea of "lights-out manufacturing" to grow,

which is where factories and manufacturing operations don't physically need humans there to run or operate.

Some machines are far less concerned about needing light, or heat and air conditioning, for that matter.

And they're much less likely to complain.

But we're still a long wayfrom a world where robots and machines run everything.

Until then, we can learn a good deal from Frederick Winslow Taylor,

an American engineer who we see as the father of industrial engineering and scientific management.

Around 1881, Taylor introduced what we know as time study.

He found that the efficiency in a shop or factory could be greatly improved by looking at the workers and eliminating as much wasted time as was reasonably possible.

His work led to major improvements in factory production by focusing on one of the biggest variables: people.

Taylor's teachings soon became widespread, with his work titled The Principles of Scientific Management being published in 1911.

While industrial engineering might not be as flashy as some of the other professions, it's central to the overall function of the other branches.

It's the backbone of our engineering skelton.

It's been in the background of engineering ever since we built the first factories.

Which brings us to one of the new fields of engineering: biomedical.

It's often used synonymously with bioengineering, but the two are not exactly the same.

Biomedical engineering applies engineering skills and principles to biology and medicine, usually for the purpose of healthcare.

It focuses on human and animal biology, whereas bioengineering is typically used as a broader term that can include other biological systems, like plants.

Biomedical engineering focuses on advancements that improve our health, from diagnosis and analysis of medical conditions, to their treatment and recovery.

This is where we'll learn the skills to try and make an artificial limb.

Biomedical engineers differ a bit from the other disciplines in that they often need to apply modern biological principles to their designs.

For example, you have to make sure that the materials of an artificial organ don't cause an unwanted reaction inside the body,

and that an artificial limb moves in similar ways to its organic counterpart.

As such, biomedical engineers need to have a good working knowledge of many other fields

in addition to biology, including mechanical and electrical engineering, materials science, and chemistry, to name a few.

And biomedical engineering shows up in most of our lives.

Beyond artificial limbs and organs, we have it thank for defibrillators, pacemakers, MRI and CT scans, and insulin pumps.

It's striking to think that most of these technologies weren't around 50 or 100 years ago.

That's because biomedical and bioengineering didn't really show up until after World War II.

There were certainly biomedical inventions before that, but they were mostly left to the doctors and physicians.

Some of the earliest evidence for the practice that we've found has been a 3,000 year-old wooden and leather prosthetic toe found on an Egyptian mummy.

Moving forward to about 200 years ago, the French physician René Laënnec came up with an important biomedical invention: the stethoscope.

After being appointed as a physician in the Necker Hospital in Paris in 1816,

he developed the stethoscope in response to how uncomfortable it was to have to lay your ear on a person's chest to listen to their heart or lungs.

People who enjoy their personal space have been thankful ever since.

X-ray imaging was another early biomedical discovery.

In 1895, German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays while experimenting with electric current flow.

He took the first X-ray photographs, which included the interiors of metal objects and the bones of his wife's hand.

Even simple crutches and walking sticks can be looked at as early biomedical devices.

There was a medical problem, and people used what they had available to them to improve their situation.

But biomedical engineering didn't really take off until 1961,

when the University of Pennsylvania offered the Ph.D. Program of Biomedical Electronic Engineering, the first in the United States.

Now that the field was more established, one of the biggest steps forward for biomedical engineering was computers.

With computers, we could begin to analyze data much faster, which made it more efficient to evaluate patients, and opened up new ways of doing so.

Along with the invention of the internet, this is what's allowed doctors and physicians to create a worldwide network of data to find medical patterns and correlations.

It also led to new imaginingng opportunities like the MRI and CT scans, which began to pick up in the 1970's.

Moving forward, advancements in medical instruments and electronics continue to be a major goal of biomedical engineers.

They continue to seek the answers to questions like 'How can we better take images of the body?

Can we reduce any radiation involved?

Can we come up with better analysis and measurement systems?

How many tests can we do from a single drop of blood?'

But there are still some major challenges that biomedical engineers are wrestling with.

One of them is biological modeling.

We want to know – how we can simulate the body and what's happening inside it.

If we can get a realistic and reliable simulation, then we can use it to run experiments on rather than using a real person.

It would allow us to both experiment in ways that could be harmful to a real person and also repeat tests more than we normally could.

Another area we'd like to learn more about is drug delivery.

We want the medicine that we create to get where it needs to go.

This is because certain medicine and treatments become less effective depending on where and how they're delivered.

It's also important to know how the body will react to any implanted biomachines.

This is where materials science really comes in.

One of the more interesting recent developments here is called cell encapsulation.

This is where we surround a cell in biomaterials so that it's protected inside the body.

The materials can act as barriers to protect a transplanted cell from being attacked by its host's immune system.

The technology is somewhat new, but it has the potential to do wonders for cell-based therapy.

Materials are also important as we develop prosthetics even further.

When we're replacing something like a hip or a limb, there are many potential issues that we need to worry about.

Some of these include making sure that bacteria and infections won't thrive on the material we've implanted and that the material is durable and will last a long time.

Let's look at what it might take to replace a fully-functional leg.

There are many more factors at play than we'll go over for now, but let's look at the big ones.

To start off, strength of materials is going to be pretty important.

We need the mechanical "bones" of the leg to not only last, but to handle both the static and dynamic forces that a leg goes through.

A material that handles the constant stress and strain of standing might not hold up well to the forces that happen when we run.

Once that's figured out, we'll need to look into power and electrical engineering if we want it to move, like one of our legs.

This is also where programming and computer science might play a big role.

Furthermore, it's not just the strong, rigid materials that we'll have to worry about.

For instance, our knees and many parts of our bodies contain cartilage, which act, in part, as shock absorbers.

There are also fluids in our knees that help them move, called synovial fluids.

Finding out how to replicate these, with things like hyaluronic acid, could go a long way in recreating an artificial leg.

Now, once we've figured out the design for the leg, we'll want to go back to our teachings about industrial engineering in order to make them in a factory.

Not only will it be good to make them efficiently, but we'll also want to make sure they're made with the best possible quality.

You see, we have the potential to do great things when we apply what we've learned.

Like most engineering pursuits, things really come together when we combine at least a few of the different fields.

So today we started off by learning about industrial engineering and the different factors involved in an industrial system.

We talked about Frederick Winslow Taylor, the father of industrial engineering, and his work with scientific management.

Then we moved on to biomedical engineering and bioengineering, along with their early inventions.

Finally, we ended our lesson by talking about the future of the biomedical field and saw what it might be like to bring our teachings together in creating an artificial leg.

Next time we'll be moving on from our history-based lessons into thermodynamic and the laws of conservation.

Thanks for watching and I'll see you then.

False Facts You've Been Believing About Fast Food - Duration: 4:56.

It's hard to ignore the many disturbing myths and urban legends you've heard about fast

food chains.

The fact that these restaurants serve full meals within seconds of taking orders understandably

leave people wondering what's really going on behind the scenes, but luckily, some of

the worst rumors have been proven completely false.

Snopes has done some deep-digging over the years and debunked a bunch of fast food myths

— here are some of the most outrageous.

Robot takeover

A whole series of reputable news outlets claimed that Wendy's was rolling out self-service

kiosks where customers could place their orders and pay without dealing with human employees.

So basically, robots would replace employees in the face of rising minimum wage requirements,

which is a pretty dire look into our future.

But you don't have to worry about the rise of the machines just yet.

In 2016, they did add self-service kiosks to about 30 restaurants, but considering there

are more than 6,500 locations in the US alone, that's a tiny percentage.

Their official statement was that they weren't replacing workers at all, they were just shifting

the balance of their duties elsewhere.

Dairy-free

You go to Dairy Queen for ice cream, right?

Well, not exactly, and the fact they technically call it "soft serve" has led to the rumors

their products are dairy-free.

This is a potentially horrible thing for someone to tell a friend who's lactose-intolerant

or allergic to dairy, because it's not true.

DQ calls their delicious frozen treats "soft serve" because their recipes don't meet the

FDA guidelines for what can be called "ice cream."

Their soft serve falls short of earning the title because it doesn't have enough butterfat.

Still, the first ingredients in the soft serve are milkfat and nonfat milk, so while DQ's

signature dessert might technically be low-fat, it's definitely not dairy-free.

Coffee, donuts, pot

There was a story going around that Tim Hortons was breaking into the marijuana market with

the spreading legalization of the drug — and many customers were excited about the early

morning one-stop-shopping possibilities, including Canadian stand-up Mark Critch ...

"You're already buying your weed in the parking lot, I'm just saying go inside where it's

warm!"

But it turns out, the original story came from a site called The Global Sun, which is

a spoof news site like The Onion.

Tim Hortons hasn't made any official statements about becoming a coffee-and-donuts-and-marijuana

shop … though the move would probably give their donut sales a huge boost.

No meals for the homeless

McDonald's was painted as the bad guy when a rumor started circulating that they banned

customers and employees alike from buying meals for local homeless people — but no,

it's not true.

The rumor started on a site called True Activist, and a couple incidents in England helped fuel

the rumor mill.

In one, a man was reportedly denied service because employees thought he was homeless,

and in another, a local teen claimed she hadn't been allowed to buy a meal for an elderly

homeless man.

In both cases, McDonald's not only apologized but stressed they had no such policy in place.

It's also worth giving a special shout-out to McDonald's in East Asia, as many of their

24-hour locations open their doors to those in need of a dry, warm place to sleep.

Mother's Day lunch

It's not entirely unthinkable that Chick-fil-A would offer moms a free Mother's Day lunch.

So when images and advertising appeared on social media in 2017, people believed it — but

it wasn't true.

Apparently, the ads were nothing more than some old-fashioned social media trolling,

done just to cause some uncomfortable moments for families and Chick-fil-A employees alike.

After all, who's going to get the blame when a family goes out for Mom's free meal and

the doors are closed?

Also, Mother's Day is on the second Sunday in May in the US, and Chick-fil-A is closed

on Sundays, meaning, moms who show up are out of luck.

Free food for life

It's usually easy enough to enter one of those "free food for life" giveaways: just send

in your email, share a post, and you're entered to win a few free-food passes being given

away to celebrate an anniversary.

Sounds like something they'd do, right?

It's been linked to nearly all the major fast food chains — and no, it's not real.

Clicking on any links takes you to a Facebook clone site, then asks you for information

many people might not think twice about entering — especially when there's free food involved.

But they're all scams, so don't be fooled.

Pig fat shakes

You're probably familiar with the unusual texture of McDonald's shakes.

It's different than other fast food shakes, and that's led to a whole series of rumors

about them — including one particularly nasty claim that they use pig fat.

It's just not true, and McDonald's says not only is there no pig fat in their shakes,

but there are no meat-based products of any kind, and they're safe for vegetarians.

In 2013, McDonald's Australia shut down the pig fat question, too, claiming that the thick,

distinctive texture comes courtesy of the blending and cooling process the shake goes

though.

Transformers OCs: Dragstrip - Duration: 0:56.

He's destined for greater things.

Check out the origins of the Autobot, Dragstrip.

With the Great War reigniting, completely unique Autobots were becoming harder and harder

to make, and so Project Rebirth was born.

Project Rebirth started by creating new Autobot soldiers that could be mass-produced at a

more efficient rate due to a low amount of armor variants while still being able to designate

a unique personality for each soldier.

About 25 to 30 years later, Project Rebirth began experimenting with creating new soldiers

using the designs of previous ones.

Among these redesigns, Dragstrip's was derived from the recently-deceased Autobot, Jolt.

Rest in peace, buddy, rest in peace.

Dragstrip, along with 9 other Autobot protoforms, was sent to Earth from Cybertron.

Each was given an alternate mode that was subsequently stored in their memory banks.

All they had to do was access the data and then they could turn into who they were designed to be.

Fast-forwarding to after the battle in episodes 1 and 2, Dragstrip has taken up the role of

the 4th member of Cuffs' team and now has his very own arch-enemy: Turbine.
