hi guys it is Saturday June 16th and I'm here for a floss tube update I think the
last time I saw you guys for a proper update was in April I did do a mania
vlog but the last actual update was mid-april so it's been a while I'm
overdue I have a lot to talk about today so it might be a long one you might want
to grab a cup of coffee it's Saturday June 16th but you are watching this sometime
in the future because I currently do not have internet and I will not have
internet until the end of next week we have had a problem with one of the lines
since we moved in here it was damaged Time Warner / spectrum / whatever
they're calling themselves these days repeatedly came to fix it the problem
it was never solved last week it went out entirely and it has been out since then
I called them several times they basically refused to come fix it so
we're we cancelled we switched providers but our new provider can't come until
next week so in the meantime we are we're doing without which hasn't been as
challenging as you would think there are a lot of parts of our lives that rely on
Wi-Fi and the web we can't listen to music on our speakers we can't print
things because we did that over Wi-Fi we can't watch TV because we only had
hipster cable so we can't get Netflix without the Internet but otherwise I
honestly haven't really noticed we're reading more which is a good thing and
going out more and spending less screen time which is probably a good thing so
that's all good they have finally finished the construction upstairs,
finally! Con Ed is doing some construction outside right now that you
may or may not hear it seems like my microphone is pretty good at
isolating that stuff out so if you hear it sorry! if I waited for there to never be
construction I would never make videos so retreat was amazing it was so much
fun I'm so glad I went I was really nervous to meet people but everybody was
super nice and I just had I had the greatest time I didn't take any pictures
or film any videos because I was just so busy being overwhelmed with joy and you
know trying to be in the moment but several people took very comprehensive
retreat vlogs Danielle did a really really great vlog so if you haven't seen
that already you probably already have but if you haven't go check it out yeah
everybody said it already but if you have a chance to go to retreat please go
it was so great to be in a room full of like-minded people who it's not like
it's just people who are also interested in my hobby they share my passion for my
hobby so that was really awesome because everybody else in my life I can really
only talk to them about cross-stitch so much before they're like uh-huh but you
know everybody who was there that gets it they get it you get it if you're
watching this you get it if you make videos you get it it was just it was
really great it was also super great too
to meet people that I knew were kindred spirits from when I started watching
them and then have that affirmed in person like Amanda I've known since I
started watching her videos that we were very much alike you know I told her when
I when I met her in person but when I watched her video where she told this
story about this bridesmaid dress I'll link the video below because I think
it's hysterical I was like oh my god that's that's something that would 100%
happened to me I can see it happening to me
so I don't know it was it was I already felt like I had a connection with her
before and then we met in person that connection was affirmed and that was
just so the word amazing doesn't really
doesn't seem like a big enough word so but that's that's enough gushing about
that so I have three FFOs since I saw you last
so in Maynia I finished I finished five things I started and finished five
things if you want to see that you can check out my mania vlog but i FFOd
two of those mania projects the first one is blue ribbon design established
with love and there's gonna be a glare on those sorry but I got this frame from
Michaels I'm getting better at framing things they are getting less crooked
and I'm having an easier time with lacing so I guess like
anything else you just need practice but I'm really happy with how this turned
out I also FFOd country cottage needle works rain showers that I
stitched with Color and Cottons I think it's midnight blue and hearth but I got
this frame on Amazon I think this one's a little crooked if you look at it
closely you can tell but I'm really happy with how this one turned out -
this one hangs in our bedroom so I can see it first thing when I wake up every
morning then finally my Sundae I have a matching a second frame for the
other one that matches so I'm so happy with how this turned out I'm gonna enter
this in the fair so that's coming up at the end of this month
we're driving up to Canada for Canada
day and on the way up I'm gonna stop in Syracuse and drop that off I have a
couple finishes as well so at retreat Margo and I started together we started
at the same same ish time Plum streets Samplers Cape Cod keeps you guys have
seen these before I think Joe Pretty Southern did them last year so I
finished the first one
and guys cross stitch is never ever a race but if this had been a race I would
be the winner so I stitched this on what did I stitch
this on Zweigart Edinburgh 36 count pearl gray it's pretty great color so --and so
we started these together and we're both gonna stitch them and then we're going
to swap Margo is going to sew both sets into little pillows and then we're gonna
swap so she stitched hers on a more yellow color fabric and then so I picked
this kind of blue gray and I think my favorite color of
all the threads is this um the fish are stitched in weeks dye works
old money which I just think is this most like really beautiful variegated
blue-green color i stitched this with the charted threads with the exception
of the black I did not use the called for black I think it called for black bird I
just used 310 and then the color they had for her skin
I thought kind of looked I think it was
it
sorry so they have charted for her skin
classic color works cinnamon toast which I felt like kind of made her look like
she had a bad spray tan so I used gentle arts sampler this is I don't know what
it's called it was just a limited edition color but it's this pinky brown
color that I thought I gave gave her like a nice dark complexion appropriate
for somebody who spends a lot of time in this Sun less less Jersey spray tan more
natural deep dark complexion anyway so I finished that one and I have started and
gotten pretty far on the second one the whale and I really really love this
Pelican gray how it's turning out I so I started with these overdyed threads to
do something a little differently and I've started I'll figure that out later
what I've been doing is I've been starting here and then stitching all the
way across and then ending my thread cutting it and then starting and then
stitching across rather than going back and forth I feel like it's giving me
more splotches and less stripes if that makes sense and I'm much happier with
how it's looking just just with these big blocks like this whale so it does
take it does take more time and it's kind of a pain in the butt but I'm happy
with how it's turning out so here's that oh I can't believe I forgot
to show you this it had one more finish in April a big finish you probably saw
this on Instagram I finished Beatrix Potter
isn't that pretty I need to wash this and frame this because I also want to
submit this to the fair because I'm so happy with how it turned out super
beautiful this is stitched on color and Cotton's
lugana in the colorway ruins I think the last time you saw it I still had
quite a lot to do and then I just couldn't put it down and I was stitching
in stitching and stitching it and I this is basically the only thing I worked on
in April and I stitched it until it was finished I'm really happy with how it
turned out straight the next thing the next thing
I've been working on quite a bit is Kathy barracks cat and mouse this is
what it will look like when it's finished I will insert a picture of
where you saw it last this is where I'm at now so I was so happy when his butt
lined up because as I was coming around I was like oh god please don't please
don't have a mistake right it lined up so I just need to finish filling in his
butt and then do like three or four motifs up here a motif down here and a
mouse and a tail that's all can you believe that when I started this
in December I was like oh I'll totally have that done by March yeah but it is
turning out really nice this is stitched on picture this plus Lugana probably 32
count in Melo
I also did a little bit of work on my HAED this is what it will look like
finished artwork by Steven Paul Carlson
I will insert a picture of where you saw it last time and this is where I'm at
now so I am very close to a page finish over here which I am super excited about
stitches aren't very neat the tension is kind of all over the place but from far
away it looks really good and that's how it's gonna be anyway means gonna be in a
frame on a wall from far away and it's for my mom and she doesn't know anything
about cross stitch so she doesn't care how my stitches are so and then the last
thing I've been working on is frosted pumpkins happily ever after everybody's
seen this I won't put a picture into what it looks like I will put a picture
in of where you saw it last and this is where I'm at now
it's still on the rods so I made it all the way across the other side I've
almost finished the floral this way I've almost finished the floral border on the
top and I think I finally reached the point in this project where I'm like oh
my god I might actually finish this like I you know what I'm talking about when
you reach a point in your like I could totally finish this project you can see
a light at the end of the tunnel and I think getting getting to the border over
here getting that done and in its proper place made me kind of feel like I can
actually do this so I'm hoping to get some more work on this this month and
I'm really hoping to actually finish this this year this is this one of my
older wips and pretty much everybody else who started this has finished it
Julie finished hers a couple months ago so I should probably get it done so
that's everything I worked on so let's talk about what I've been buying which I
was doing really good about stitch from stash and not shopping and all that
and then I went to retreat and then I just really fell off the wagon
hard I didn't actually buy that much at retreat I'll show you what I bought but
it just got me in a shopping mood and it hasn't really stopped since
so at retreat I got a couple pieces of fabric I got some 32 count linen and
from silk weaver in the colorway morning mist which is
this really pretty very light blue a green color a little darker in person
showing up I have no plan for that zero plan that was pretty so I bought it I
got this I had them dye this for me it's this is
a lot more red in person than it's showing up on camera this is um 32 count
linen in the color way napa harvest it's in real life it's like a
deep wine color like if you spilled you spilled wine on a piece of fabric this
is probably the color it would be if it was red wine which was
what I wanted I actually have tried to dye my own fabric with wine and it
never really turned out well so and this is what I was going for at the time so I
wish it was a little bit more red I had originally thought maybe I would do
reflections of Canada on this with like a nice white floss but I don't know if
it's red enough we'll see so no plan but it's pretty I got one chart I bought one
chart we'll talk about the freebie table in a second which was home sweet home by
putinie putinie II I've never bought one of their charts before I love this
one because I mean we're home boddies we love our couch we'd love to stay home
and sit on our couch and play video games and cross stitch and just never go
out and never be social and be quiet and introverted at home so I don't know I
saw and I thought it was really cute and I figured I could do it and any color
combination or you know as charted it's charted in DMC 840 on antique ivory
but I think you could really do it in any color what you wanted so yeah I
thought this was cute so that's what i bought at retreat there was also quite a
generous freebie table from which I snagged just at Victoria's sampler
stocking pattern Christmas Cardinals I know I'm like oh yeah I'm totally gonna
stitch stockings for everybody in my family you know Dylan and I will have
like a little cute matching stockings hanging up in the fireplace if I live to
be 302 maybe I'll get that done I get this one
done if I live to be 400 and to maybe I can get two stockings done but I thought
this was really pretty and not something that would be not full coverage which is
something I do not want to do for a stocking because I think I don't like full coverage. I'm gonna
finish my HEAD but I can't I can't work on it exclusively or as long as other
people who I think really like full coverage can work on full coverage I
like it for a little bit and then after like two or three hundred stitches I
want to put it away for a couple days so I don't know I there's no full coverage
stockings in my future that's for sure so and I also thought this one's some of
the stocking patterns you see can look a little 90s like they could potentially
be dated but I think this one is classic enough that it would be cute for a long
time not not that the the 90s ones aren't cute but that it would not date
itself eventually you know if that makes sense that it's a little more classic anyway that was at
the freebie table so thank you to whoever left it there
I also got from the freebie table oh I won in a raffle
this biscornu collection which is perfect because I
love making biscornus it was really pretty I got from the freebie table this
Theresa Wentzler treetop sampler will I stitch this I don't know I've
never done a Theresa Wentzler I would love to try one I know she's very heavy
on the blends this has a bazilion colors but I figured if I was gonna try
one a free one would be the way to go and I'm not really into fantasy a lot of
her stuff is fantasy and I'm not particularly attracted to dragons and
unicorns and all that so
they also Oh
this is what I won in the small exchange its really cute
this is a bookmark it is so beautifully stitched these stitches are
so neat and perfect and then there's another one little cute little seahorse
so great I'm using them in my books right now and I have a total brain fart
on the name of the lady who stitched those but I will write it down in the
description box below because I have that written down somewhere I'm so sorry
I can see your face but I'm totally brain farting on your name but I'll put
in the description box I'm a jerk and then I also got this from
the freebie table at retreat it is says oops that's the chart well you can't see
from back here it says did you eat a bowl stupid for breakfast there's quite
a few people I could stitch that for in my life it's by the stitch bitch and then
finally I got some more birds this-- "stick I Dean??" this is looks like this is in
Dutch or German Ingeborg did you bring this probably these birds "stick idean"
owls little chickadees a swan some geese
always attracted to bird designs it's just like something about birds you know
I find really fascinating interesting like I think it's so interesting that
I think it's ravens or crows or-- I think it's crows they've done studies that they can
recognize facial features where they would like send people out wearing masks
to bother the crows on a university campus and then they would go away and
then they would go out without the mask and nothing would happen and then a few
days later they would go back out to the same area wearing the same masks and the
crows would like attack them so they can like remember and recognize facial
features and that's just so interesting and cool fun fact for the day I think
thats everything from retreat that I got I also have been doing some online shopping I got
this from 123 stitch no bees no honey
Sim Swank is stitching this right now maybe she finished it this was on my
wish list for a while says no bees no honey no work no money
a motto I need to remember sometimes when I get up in the morning no work no
money for a cross-stitching supplies so I got that one this is the only thing I
got from the market from this is the only
this is the only natural market release I really was attracted to and bought
this heartstrings samplery prairie life sampler because I've gotten
so far on coffee Quaker and cross stitch nation but this is massive this is a
this is a Little House on the Prairie sampler that she designed for her
daughter there's like their little house in the Big
Woods here's the Ingalls family pet and Pat the horses you know the chalkboard
just like their dog Jack just motifs from their life and it says
um the real things haven't changed it is still best to be
best to be honest and truthful to be happy with simple pleasures and to have
courage when things go wrong just thought that was really sweet
cause I grew up reading those books and I
don't know I'll stitch that sometime when I'm five hundred and ten years old
excuse me I purchased oh I also got this at retreat oops I got an Elaine bag the
Elaine makes these beautiful bags theres a q snap in there its ingling she's
got like a cactus print pretty bead trim inside it has this pretty pink
pocket and then this matching cactus fabric I saw this and I was like THAT ONE I WANT THAT ONE ELAINE
she makes these beautiful bags
she only sells them at needle workers Delight though so if you want one you have
to call the store I also bought because I'm really worried that I'm not gonna
have enough things to stitch before I die
I'm really worried that I'm gonna stitch everything I own before I retire and
then you know we've been talking a lot about retirement planning so I wanted to
make sure I had enough things planned to stitch in retirement so I bought some
books I bought Brenda Keyes traditional samplers
I bought this because I got it for a very good price on Amazon and because I
had been thinking about buying some Brenda Keys patterns and this book was
cheaper than purchasing one of her patterns I got it for less than $10 in
her patterns are like 15, 20 dollars so I thought it would be a
good way to see if I liked her style and there's some really really pretty things
in here if you're interested in a flip through I'll do one but she has some
really beautiful both reproduction samplers and original designs in here
let me see if I can find like this is one of her reproduction samplers but she
also has a lot of original designs so there's a lot in this book if you're
into samplers if you like Brenda Keys or you want to try her and I also got this
for like $10 on Amazon historic samplers this is selected for museums and
historic homes with 30 cross-stitch charts charts for authentic
reproductions the cool thing about this book is she has reproduced them not as
they would have been but as they are now so if if there is um if there is threads
missing she has charted it in such a
way that you would like for example this has all these gaps and you would stitch
it like this and she has instructions for how to you know make these threads
hanging out and you would stitch it with these gaps to try and make it look
exactly like the reproduction or look exactly like the original sampler
in the museum the only negative review for this book on Amazon was
somebody who was complaining that the charts were too good and that they felt
that somebody could use this book to make samplers and then
pass them off as antique samplers and rip people off so they they gave the
book a negative review the one one I'm most interested in is this one here this is a mourning
sampler where basically this girl stitched you know her parents when they
were born and they got married the kids they had and she included the her older
siblings who died before she was born and a little poem about death and then
somewhere in here she died before she finished it and her sister finished it
for her and that's written it in here somewhere and then at the so Mary
finished this for her sister and then added her brother in this other color at
the end there who was born later on so I think that's interesting you know just
the fact that she started it before she died Martha started it before
she died and Marry her sister finished it for her after she died I
might actually stitch that I would want to I would want to put the whole text in
there so if you want a flip through I'll do one if you're into samplers or if you
weren't into samplers before and then Michelle is making you interested in
samplers then that's a not too expensive book so I also purchased
this is Allison's fault Allison from stitching social because at the retreat
I was telling her about this Brenda Keys sampler that Nell from Little House
crafts had shown a long time ago like over a year ago and that I was
still thinking about it and she was like if you're still thinking about it after
a year you should buy it so I did so thank you for enabling me Allison but
it's um Brenda Keys over the hills and this is a small glossy photo so I'll
insert a large picture from her website here so you can see what this looks like
but it's some British soldiers going off to fight some French soldiers and it
says King George King George commands and we obey over the hills and far away
and I don't know it just kind of appeals to me I think you know it appeals to my
Commonwealth side and I like history I really like history especially
European history so you know I always liked that one so I bought it and I
didn't want that one to travel alone all the way from the UK because I ordered
them straight from Brenda from her website which pro tip is significantly
cheaper than ordering them from a United States distributor to I mean I
guess depending on how the exchange rate is doing maybe I got it on a good on a
good day for the dollar to pound exchange rate but it was significantly
cheaper to order from her than it was to order from a US store but I also got a
sampler story and again I'll insert a picture here of what it looks like a
larger picture and what I like about this is it's all these little motifs
that you would might find in a lot of samplers you know it's a little red
house and birds and a vine and a willow tree, the arc, forest fauna some pious
maids, a tree, the year, a man and his dog
oranges and sheep and you know a sea siren and a house and a king so you know
and so as a stitcher I thought this was a nice piece about stitching if that
makes sense so that's I got that one too and
Brenda's charts um they're great so you get this like really large color key in
instructions the chart itself is a large format chart well large-enough can't
stitch that from back here you also get this smaller color key this orange piece
of paper and then you get this great piece of paper this little label you can
stick on the back of your framework that says stitched by, in the year so
after you're done and you frame it it'll say you know you'll have something that
shows who made it and she includes a plastic bag put your chart in with a
little note that says to prevent wear and tear up your chart please store it
in this bag when you're working so I guess it's a lark it's a it's large
enough that you can fit your chart chart in so you can see the chart while you're
stitching and it won't get damaged and she includes a leaflet that explains
sampler motifs you know like a cat means idleness that makes sense you know Adam
and Eve represents good and evil bees represent Chastity? really? the Virgin Mary?
interesting I always thought bees represented like
industry
huh... an explanation of the origin of samplers and then some instructions on
ensuring a confident start and a confident start and a perfect finish and
some stitch guides so I don't know I think I think that's a really well put
together packet I'm really impressed by that and I'm really excited just to
start it the last chart I got was jeanette douglas isle of hope sampler
this has been on my wish list for a while it's like really long this has
been on my wish list for a while and I was perusing the stitches and things
clearance section stitches and things is in LNS in Michigan that has an online
clearance section and they have a lot of great charts in there you should check
it out I'll link it but I was looking just browsing and I saw this there for
like less than half of what it normally cost for this chart so I bought it I
felt kind of guilty about it kind of felt like I was like stealing from Deb
because I was so discounted right so you know you know it felt kind of like an
appropriate week to be purchasing this with everything in
the news and you know I'm attracted to this for a lot of reasons I mean I
mean I'm an immigrant nothing nothing like you know I would never I would
never say that I have gone through anything similar to what people who had
to go through Ellis Island went through not a million years but you know as an
immigrant as a New Yorker I like Jeanette Douglass Jeanette's Canadian I
don't know I'm attracted to this chart for a lot of reasons and I probably I'm
not gonna start it this year next year I have plans to start it in 2020 it's um
41 wide by 339 long so maybe it's not that long that's pretty long because you
need a six by twenty three inch piece of linen and it's all stitched and silk
Gloriana Crescent colors Bell soie thread gatherer MPI rainbow gallery
splendor got to change those out I don't like those and something called
access commodities bijoux? I don't know what that is
so looking forward to starting that
the last very very very last things I got were my color and cotton fabric of
the month I got April fabric of the month was bluebird 32 count
32 count linen bluebird beautiful sky blue and this month or mys fabric
was 40 count Newcastle in sampler gold really pretty I love brown
fabric and I love blue fabric so those were great so that that is everything
this video is gonna be really choppy that's everything um thank you for
for coming back thank you for watching thank you for all your
comments your likes for your subscriptions you know thank you for
everything I really appreciate it I'm so glad to be part of this
community like I said I just had such a wonderful time at retreat meeting you
guys talking to you guys you know I'm just thankful to have you in my life so
with that I'll say goodbye and I'll try in I'll try and make it less time
between this video and the next one and you guys will see this sometime in the
future I have a big mess to clean up now and a whole lot of stitching to do if
I'm going to get out of my stitch from stash hole so bye for now
