Controlled environments will become and is becoming a component of the

agricultural food production system here in the United States.

Using hydroponicsand controlled environment greenhouses,

we can produce fresh vegetablesthroughout the year almost any kind, at any time

with high quality and with the

potential for a price premium, which is good obviously for the grower.

Although this will not replace field agriculture, it will complement it and it will bring

a consistency to quality, dependability, assurance, deliverability of products

throughout the year.

Where do these come from ?

And that your meal, that somebody's meal might be coming from five different locations

- Do you know how many kilometers or miles it has travelled ?

- Oh my gosh, right ?

It's usually 10 calories of energy input for

one calorie of energy of food.

many circumstances that are locally grown

so that the transportation is minimized and that the consumer will potentially begin to know

their farme,r know where their food comes from and appreciate it more, respect it

more and raise the entire industry to important levels that will, again,

complement the field production systems but offer local producers,

local consumers a very good relationship.

what controlled environment agriculture can do.

Products that are grown in hydroponics in a controlled environment like a

greenhouse can be just as nutritious as those grown in the open field in soil

So hydroponics, it is

very easy to monitor the conditions of the nutrient solution like I can see the

concentration of nutrients in the water, I can see what the pH is very easily

through the use of our sensors that we have and it's fairly easy to change as

well. We know exactly what changes pH and we know how to change it

we know that we have our nutrient stock solution and we can add that as the

plants need it, as we're monitoring the nutrient concentration in the water,

so we're able to make changes fairly quickly and the changes will

circulate through the entire system instead of just, you know, if we had soil

we would be changing one area and that's not gonna really sip over into other areas very well.

The plant knows genetically what it needs to do, it has

it engrained in internally. We know that if we change the environment for the

tomato we can make it taste more sweet or more acidic so the plant does respond

clearly to its environment, even to have it produce more natural components

phytochemicals like lycopene,

the red and orange pigment in the tomato.

If you provide the environment with the potential of the genetic of the plant

and you do it sufficiently in the proper ways, then you can get a healthy plant

which will produce a healthy product, not just a lot of it,

but good quality, good taste and nutritious

in a hydroponic system, in controlled environments just as well.

Alternatively, just as you can in a field

system not care to the plants efficiently or worse that the weather is

just not sufficient, then the quality of that product can be reduced.

In the greenhouse, you should have no excuse for the environment. You can provide the

environmental control but should you not, then you could make a product that is

not as nutritious, not as good tasting... it can be done.

But why would you do that ? You have the opportunity to make a quality product

and that's what we try to do in educating people to grow in these hydroponic systems

from the science evaluations of plant growth

the researchers learn what the plants need to to grow properly particularly in

their nutrition at the root zone. And if you can provide those elements that are

inherent in the natural fertilizers or that are combined in the fertilizers

that we dissolve into the water and irrigate, the plants can make use of them

and as it does it grows properly and produces a quality product that's safe.

It is my expectation and strong belief that a plant root cannot tell the

difference between a nitrate molecule or anyone fertilizer component

and where it came from. Once it's at the root zone, the plant

requires that and can absorb and use it and not recognize where it came from.

The question is always : can organic fertilization provide nutrients that we

still don't understand ? And that is a potential, particularly with micro

organisms, that organics can bring to the situation and that is a big part of

studies these days to learn about how to enhance plant growth using the natural

microorganisms that help plants grow while maintaining the basic 16 elements

that we know the plan needs to grow from the fertilization that we provide.

The question can become : how difficult is it to provide this fertilization from

all natural and organic approach or the significant amount of inorganic

fertilization approach, both of which work very well. To get the fertilizers

there is a cost : there's a cost to the environment, there's a cost to the grower.

We believe that the efficient approach at this point to feed all the people we

have to feed will be more easily succeeded in the inorganic approach.

How do you feed people in even locations that are maybe too arid half the time

and flooding because they're too rainy the other half that you can't grow

anything because of that, that the soil composition isn't good. How do you still

get people the proper nutrition ?

As resources diminish, we will recycle more

and more inorganically. That doesn't eliminate or take away anything from

doing it by the fully organic approach, which you can produce a good

quality product. The question there becomes : what is the expense in obtaining

the organic fertilizer, preparing it and putting it into the system and utilizing it ?

At this point in time, to have high productivity and work into all the other

work you have to do to me it adds a greater burden on the grower to have to

grow it organically. If that's your expectation, that's fine.

But in a large-scale system and in the numerous systems that we will need

throughout this country and throughout the world they all cannot be organic.

We will still need to use inorganic fertilizers and use them as efficiently

as possible to produce our healthy foods. In the end, it will all have to be recycled,

no matter what your initial source is. The question will come and I

don't know the answer to this : where and how is it more easy to recycle nutrients

in a hundred percent pure organic situation or in an inorganic water-based

true hydroponic system ? Again this is an area of research that is

being worked on and will be worked on into the future.

alone perform so yes she really didn't I guess need to go take a shower after

putting on a whole show but the fans went absolutely nuts and honestly in my

opinion and then remember guys this is just my opinion I don't think he meant

it in a rude way I think he was joking with her and people got upset because

they misinterpreted it you know I don't think they knew about his friendship

with Taylor and the fact that they do jump back and forth all the time

but honestly he getting say oh my god go take a shower he said I think you need

to have a shower now as in you know well he was joking is basically the point and

Tyler was not offended by it at all so I think the fans got upset for the wrong

reasons they just misinterpreted what he was saying and what he meant by it so I

was not offended okay by what he said I saw the interview and or at least that

clip from the interview and I just laughed when he said it and so did

Taylor and she agreed with him so you know if it had been anything bad I think

it would have been more blatantly obvious he wasn't rude about it he

wasn't crude about it he was laughing when he said it he was joking around so

to those of you that don't know I will try to find the interview and link to it

in the description below and you guys can see how you feel about it I think he

was joking and I think Taylor knows he was joking due to her response to him

when he said it but guys that is just my opinion I would love to know yours let

me know how you feel about the situation and that is going to do it for now
