How to Move Baby to Crib or Own Room - Duration: 2:23.
Are you nervous about putting baby to sleep in a crib or his/her own room!
Worried it might ruin baby's fantastic sleep pattern, or worse, your positive bond.
Fear no more, this video is filled with tips on how to make the move as peaceful as possible.

For now, let's get straight to the point.
Idea # 1.
Staying close but not too close.
Keep a mattress or pad on the floor near your bed.
Put baby to sleep there and then climb back into your own bed.
After a week or so, move this same mattress or pad into baby's room.
2.
Create a miniature family bed.
Go to sleep with baby in his own room.
At first stay the whole night, then leave after baby falls asleep.
Keep a monitor in room so that you can quickly go to baby when he awakens at night so that
baby learns your never very far away and will begin to wake less at night.
3.
The traveling crib.
This consists of keeping the crib next to your bed and slowly moving it further away
from you until it's in baby's room, with the monitor as mentioned before.
4.
The sneaky way.
Allow baby to fall asleep in your room, then quickly move him to the crib in baby's room.
Keep a monitor and when baby awakes, either nurse baby in a chair or back in your bed,
but return baby to crib when asleep again.
5.
If your baby is older, you can just explain it to them.
You can allow them special times where they are still welcome in your room, and offer
them rewards for when they make it the whole night in their own room.
6.
Make a big production of their new room when first making the move.
Mention it ahead of time, involve them in the design process, or decorate the day of.
7.
Create a sibling bed.
If baby is above 18 months and has a willing sibling, they often welcome the change of
sleeping without you.
And that's it.
Choose whichever of these points suits your family, cross your fingers, and just rip off
the band aid.
You and your baby can do this!

Why Your Baby Won't Sleep at Night!
If you're watching this while pregnant with your first baby, don't worry, it's not all
that bad.
You can say good bye to the supposed 8hr sleep stretches that health experts recommend and
mothers laugh at, but at least you can sleep when your baby sleeps!
If this isn't your first baby, then yeah, you can say good bye to sleep altogether.
At least for a while!
Medically, a baby is considered to have slept through the night when he/she sleeps 5 consecutive
hours.
Yup, that's it.
So if you put baby to sleep at 7pm, and don't go to bed yourself until 12am, you'll have
missed out on your only opportunity to sleep through the night.
Thankfully, there are ways to increase this sleep stretch.

It's filled with solutions to all your baby's sleep problems.
But even if these solutions work, and I attest to them myself, we must have realistic expectations.
Before 6 months, most babies wake up 2 to 3 times a night.
By one year, it's 1 to 2 times.
And SOME babies even wake up once a night from one to two years.
But why do babies wake up so often anyway?
Everyone's body has specific times of day that are primed for sleep or wakefulness.
These times are governed by an internal body clock within us dubbed the biological clock.
This clock also affects how alert we feel during various parts of the day.
A baby's biological clock begins maturing at about 6-9 weeks of age and doesn't work
smoothly until about 4 to 5 months.
Slowly, a baby will begin to feel mostly awake during the day and mostly asleep at night.
At about 9 to 10 months, you can expect baby to wake and sleep at around the same time
everyday, with longer sleep spans.
This, is a typical baby's nighttime sleep cycle looks:
Don't worry, you don't have to memorize it, I just want you to notice that their sleep
cycles are shorter and more numerous than adults, and that they spend much more time
in light sleep ). These differences help facilitate brain growth, physical development, and survival
by helping baby easily awaken in uncomfortable and threatening situations.
Also, notice all these brief awakenings?
These are the likely cause of your baby's night awakenings.
We adults have them too, but we've learned to so easily put ourselves back to sleep,
we don't even notice waking up anymore.
Babies on the other hand are often nursed, rocked, bottlefed, etc to sleep, only to wake
up and find themselves in a completely different state than before they last fell asleep.
Your baby associates nursing, rocking, being bottlefed etc with falling asleep and believes
she NEEDS these things to fall asleep.
Again, there are ways to overcome these sleep associations so that your baby can put himself
back to sleep again without your help anymore.
