The Sky is Falling! (Or is it?) - Duration: 3:18.
Allow me to tell you the classic children's story of Chicken Little, otherwise known as
Henny Penny.
As the tale goes, little Henny was outside one day when an acorn fell from a tree and
hit her on the head.
Because of her naiveté and simple mindedness, Henny foolishly began to believe the itself
sky was falling down around her.
She spent the rest of the day trying to convince others, like Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey,
that the sky was most certainly falling and the world was surely coming to an end.
In most versions of the story, the trip doesn't end well for Henny and her hysterical friends
after they meet the sly Foxy Loxy.
I don't want to give everything away, though, so either read the story for yourself or check
out the classic season 6 episode of The Golden Girls in which they reenact the tale.
I mention Henny and Loosey and Turkey and Foxy not just because they're great names
to say, because it seems that just about everyone is telling us the sky is falling these days.
Between Trump, Russia, and North Korea, we've got about half the country that is in total
freakout mode.
Every day this freakout takes on a new urgency.
One day the world is ending because America left the Paris climate accord, another day
it's because of net neutrality's reversal, and another day it's because Trump holds his
water glass with two hands.
This endless hysteria is not only being amplified by the media, but it's actually being poked
and prodded by them as well.
Blue check verified journalists on Twitter who work for news organizations which are
really nothing more than partisan activist outlets want you to keep clicking on their
articles and videos, and they know the best way to do that is to convince you that not
only is the sky falling, but it's gonna land directly on your head.
What if...just hear me out on this one...this outrage factory is completely wrong and the
world isn't coming to an end just yet?
Crazy, I know, but I think it might just be true.
This doesn't mean things are perfect, but but they are pretty damn good.
This is the position of my guest this week, Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker.
Pinker argues despite our world of perceived horror and chaos, people are living longer,
healthier, happier, and freer lives right now more than any other time in human history.
This doesn't mean we don't have to work to do, but if we don't stop and smell the roses
we might toss away all the goodness humans have created for the prospect of a utopia
that will never appear.
This is why I'm so proud of the work we've done here on The Rubin Report.
I really believe the conversations we're having are at least some part of the antidote to
the craziness right now.
If those of us who care about enlightenment principles like science, reason and natural
rights can make our voices louder then this cliff we seem to be about to go off of might
just turn into a bridge to a better world..
Henny Penny's story took a drastic turn when she met Foxy Loxy who tricked her and her
friends to go to his lair.
Well in real life we've got Wolf Blitzer in a Situation Room.
If the sky is falling maybe just changing the channel is all you have to do to survive
the day...

MY SPRING TBR! [CC] - Duration: 7:24.
Hey guys welcome back to my channel. Today, I am going to be bringing you my top 5 books
that I want to read this spring. This is not books that I am for sure going to read, by the way.
This is just books that I
really want to get to and please hope that I do.
Just some inspiration and some motivation for myself. So yes, let's get right into the books.
These are also in no particular order, just how I pick them up.
So, first up we have The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
This is by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack, and I really want to get to this one because
They are coming out with a Netflix
show about it. So, I think there's like 20 episodes in it, and I don't exactly know when it's coming out
I'm gonna assume the fall of this year
but because I'm not really sure I want to read this and
since I just so happened to already own it, I did not know that they were coming out the series once
I got this obviously, so yes. I have read the first chapter for a Try A Chapter video
I did, but I didn't continue after that so, yes.
But I'm very excited to read this. This is of course about,
uhh, you know,
Sabrina Spellman who is a teen witch and
everybody knows who that is. So hopefully you do if not well, she's a teen witch and
yeah. I know that this one is kind of different obviously because there is a TV show called
Sabrina the Teenage Witch and this one is different because it's more dark and stuff and less funsies sitcom-y.
But I think it's, you know, the gist of it
she's a witch so, maybe I don't know I guess we'll see what happens when I read it.
Next up I have Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and this one is on also my read or unhaul
book list that I'm doing this year. I have six books on that list and if I don't read them by the end of 2018,
December 31st then I have to unhaul them and so this book is on that list. This is about, I don't have a full thing
because I don't really know. A lot of the times I just like buy things that sound cool, and I don't really know what they're
necessarily about. But, this is about a girl that goes to college and she's kind of more introverted and stuff like that
and
her sister,
she has a twin sister who's also in college
with her and her sister's more outgoing and wants to, you know, see the world and be her own person kind of and
our main character, wow what's her name? Cath is
you know, just not like that and just wants her sister to stay and be her friend
and that's that and stuff like that and I feel like I can relate so hard to this
already and so I'm gonna be very excited to read this and also yeah, that's the gist of this.
I just need to get to it or else I'mma have to unhaul it. I also have Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman.
Dude, this book. I don't know why so many of these books I've already started, but I've already started this one, too
I'm like 80-I think still have my book mark in. Yeah, I do. I think I'm like 84 pages into this
I couldn't tell you what Illuminae is about. I feel like everybody probably knows. I know it's sci-fi-y and stuff and
stuff like that so, yes. And I do actually own Gemina as you can see it right there
And I know Obsidio came out either this month-this month or sometime this year, and it's so beautiful
And I just want to be on board with this freakin series
And my sister Kierstyn's reading it. We were gonna read it together, then like we never did and now she's reading without me.
So I need to read this,
yes.
I feel like once I get more into it I'm actually going to be enjoying it so,
hopefully I do. I also have Umbrella Academy Volume One: Apocalypse Suite by
Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá this is Volume two: Dallas because Kierstyn has Vol. 1 right now, but
same representation. I really want to get to this because for one: Gerard Way. I love My Chemical Romance.
It's in my freakin heart, and that's the whole point of - or the whole reason that I got these in the first place
I've had these for a couple of years now
And I just haven't ever read them for some reason and now there's freaking gonna be a Netflix show about it
And I'm like dang it I could have been on board so long ago
But I'm not and so I don't know when the Netflix series is coming out either.
I know it's got 10 episodes, and I've seen some people that are gonna be in the cast and I'm very freaking excited about some of them and
Yeah, so I really want to get to this. I think it's coming out in the fall, but either way
I mean obviously it's a graphic novel so it's real quick to read
but yes.
I need to be on every bandwagon. That's always what I'm trying to get on.
I also have Preacher Gone to Texas Volume 1 by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
I also have this on my read or unhaul
for 2018
little list and so I really want to get to this. Once again, it is a graphic novel so like, come on,
I know I can do it. And I have read-I don't know if I read the first chapter
or if I've just read a little bit of it and I have seen the first season of Preacher.
I didn't watch the second season
But I really wanted to but I just like kept on
Not getting caught up
And then eventually it was over and I was like dang it. So hopefully that comes on Netflix, um but, yes
I'd better read this or I'm gonna have to unhaul it, which makes me sad because I-
I actually do enjoy the show and I just
need to do this. And lastly I lied there's six. [Next] is We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson.
And I bought this for my sister Kierstyn for her birthday, and I.. because I really want to read it
And I just also still haven't. Or for Christmas, I think I got it for her.
Yeah, Christmas. But this is about-this is gonna be a rough description because honestly I didn't realize what it was or I didn't remember
the description
But now that I know it's feels insane. So, basically this is about a boy called Henry who,
his life is kind of falling apart, people around him are kind of,
you know, struggling a lot and stuff like that and every year since he turned 13
aliens have been abducting him. And so basically the world's going to end and the aliens give him the opportunity to save it
But he doesn't know if he wants to save it or not. He doesn't know is the earth worth saving, who's to say. So,
you know
It kind of goes through that and I feel like I could totally
Feel this book and love it and I know a lot of people love it
So I really want to read it
And what not. I hope it's as good as I'm expecting it to be. And the cover is so beautiful, too
So, let's see what it looks like without it.

Yeah, I just like the idea of the book. I don't know where I was going with that,
so yes. So these are these six books that I am
hopefully going to be getting to this spring as I said, it's not an official spring TBR. It's just motivation to, you know,
Hopefully make me read some of these so, yes.

A very long time ago, every kingdom in Luzon was successfully engaged in trade.
Each kingdom had its own special product.
One kingdom which has a vast mountain range was ruled by Queen Ana.
She was an excellent leader, and so her subjects were dutiful followers as well.
Queen Ana had only one desire.
That was to make her kingdom larger and more prosperous.
"I shall become the happiest of queens if I can fulfill my dream,"
she said to herself.
Nature had blessed the mountain range ruled by Queen Ana.
Its forests were thick with large and towering trees.
Because the trees were in plenty,
it became the commodity they traded with the other kingdoms.
They exchanged the logs they obtained for rice, vegetables,
fruits, and fish from the neighboring kingdoms.
"Let us try to do even better at cutting down trees so that our kingdom will quickly prosper,"
Queen Ana persuaded her subjects.
Time flew by.
The kingdoms of Luzon were beginning to flourish.
Trade prospered alongside it.
The kingdoms near the sea needed plenty of wood to build ships and other seafaring vessels.
The kingdoms in the plains also needed wood to build storehouses for their products.
Queen Ana saw this was her chance to realize her dream.
Queen Ana's kingdom prospered.
All of the kingdoms depended on her because she was
the only one who possessed mountains and forests.
Though already prosperous, Queen Ana still was not satisfied.
She gave orders to all of her subjects.
"Cut down every tree in the forest.
We shall use them to trade with the other kingdoms," she said.
Queen Ana had become too ambitious.
She was very eager to enlarge and extend her kingdom.
"When all the trees in the forest are cut down,
I shall be the most prosperous of all!" she said.
Contrary to what she believed, the other kingdoms did not need any wood.
"Queen Ana, we have bartered for too many logs already.
We do not need them anymore," one king said.
Every tree in Queen Ana's kingdom had already been cut down.
They were likewise unable to trade them with the other kingdoms.
Because her kingdom was so large, all of the fish, rice, and vegetables
that had been bartered in exchange for their logs had already been consumed.
A famine fell upon the kingdom of Queen Ana.
The people had nothing to eat.
Eventually, they just chose to eat the chopped-up logs rather than die of hunger.
Meanwhile, Mother Nature was angered when she saw that the mountains had been denuded of its trees.
"Who did this?" she asked.
When MOther Nature learned that Queen Ana and her followers had cut down the trees, she punished them.
She shrank Queen Ana's kingdom and turned them into insects resembling ants.
She restored the denuded mountains in order to prevent any tragedies
that could arise from the disappearance of the trees.
Time went by, and the wood-eating ants came to be called "anay" (termite).
Just like Queen Ana, they keep extending their territory,
which sometimes even reached our homes.
