Destiny 2 Lore What was Felwinter's Lie? - Duration: 11:39.

Now here's the real question.

Why are Exo minds human?

What's the design imperative?

Why does a war machine - yes, absolutely, I am a war machine, built by human hands;

So why should the Exo mind mimic the human architecture so closely?

Welcome back Guardians, today we trying to answer what was Felwinter's Lie?

For those new to Destiny, Felwinter was an Iron Lord, i.e. some of the first Guardians

to start protecting humanity.

His shotgun, Felwinter's Lie was infamous for a number of reasons, firstly it's incredible

range in the Crucible and secondly it made many question what was Felwinter hiding?

With the introduction of the exotic warlock gauntlets in Destiny 2, Winter's Guile,

we may be one step closer to discovering exactly what was Felwinter's Lie.

[INTRO] Let's start by reading the Lore of the new

exotic guantlets, Winter's Guile.

It reads, "I know you."

– Lord Felwinter.

"Listen to me very carefully.

They're coming for you.

They'll ask you for a name.

Your name is Felwinter."

"I don't think that's my name."

"I know.

Say it anyway."

"Why can't remember my name?

I always remember my name.

Something's wrong.

Was I damaged in Crypt processing?

"I don't know anything about the Deep Stone Crypt.

Before my time."

"What the hell are you?"

"You don't trust me" "No"

"You're a very presumptuous little drone.

What makes you think that?"

"No one else will help you.

It's Kill or die out there."

As you can probably tell, this seems to be a conversation between Felwinter and a Ghost,

I assume his ghost, however it is not entirely obvious.

The main clue that Felwinter is speaking with a Ghost is he calls it a "little drone".

The Ghost tells Felwinter, that his name is Felwinter, despite this seeming like a lie.

Felwinter starts to panic asking, why cant I remember my name, I always remember my name,

was I damaged in Crypt processing.

The ghost then confirms that he is speaking about Deep Stone Crypt.

Deep Stone Crypt is more commonly known as the location where Exo's are born.

This is reinforced by the Destiny 1 items, Ring of Living Stone and Deep Stone Crypt

which read, "In memory of the Deep Stone Crypt, the tower

where we were born."

And A badge illustrating the infamous subroutine

which seeded the first Exo consciousness.

In addition, Ghost Fragment: Legends also confirms Deep Stone Crypt as the birth place

of the Exos and describes how Exo's often dream of the a tower at Deep Stone Crypt and

how they need to fight an army to reach the tower, an army that is made up of their family

and friends.

We do not really know where Deep Stone Crypt is located, however Cayde-6 is converted from

a human to an Exo on an Icy moon of Saturn and in his journal he describes it as a sarcophagus

of Ice and iron, obviously sarcophagus and crypt have similar definitions and so this

icy moon of Jupiter where Cayde-6 was born into an exo, could be the location of deep

stone crypt.

Whilst the new exotic gauntlets talk about Deep Stone Crypt, they do not seem to be referring

to Lord Felwinter conversion to an exo, or his birth as an exo, because the item makes

it seem like he has done this multiple times, he said

"Why can't remember my name?

I always remember my name.

Something's wrong.

Was I damaged in Crypt processing?

So it seems that Deep Stone Crypt is not just the birthplace of exos, but has another function,

there is a processing area of Deep Stone Crypt and this area has wiped Felwinter's memory.

IN this case, Felwinter questions if this was a mistake, however I am going to propose

that the memory wipe was intentional.

In Destiny 1, if you hang around Banshee-44 long enough, he says this,

"Ugh, how many times has my system been wiped?

Forty-one, forty-two, forty... three?"

This strongly indicates that the number after an exo's name indicates how many times their

memory has been wiped.

We have never known, why, where or how the memory of an Exo is wiped… however with

the introduction of this Destiny 2 Exotic, Felwinter may have had his memory wiped at

Deep Stone Crypt.

So… the next question is, why did the Ghost tell Felwinter someone was coming for him

and why did his Ghost tell Felwinter to lie about his name.

We know that new born guardians are resurrected without memory of their life, this is reinforced

by the Silver grimoire card which reads, "Like all Guardians, Fenchurch has no memories

before the first time his Ghost resurrected him."

And Osiris has always questioned why this is, have a listen to Osiris grimoire card,

How much of a Guardian's personality and memories were true?

How much had been fabricated by their Ghost?

Did Guardians share particular personality traits—

a willingness to yield to authority, a tendency to do anything anyone asked for the promise

of uncertain reward, a blind knight-errant mentality?

Had the Traveler manufactured all of you as living weapons?"

Osiris implies that our memories are wiped or fabricated to make us better soldiers and

to defend the Traveler without question.

We don't know why the Exo mind is regularly wiped but maybe it is because Exo's have

a greater ability to remember their past lives, in fact Cayde talks about this in his journal.

Maybe that is why someone wipes the minds of Exos to ensure they never recover their

past and to ensure they remain loyal to the Traveler's war.

The thing about Felwinter, is that his ghost says, someone is coming for me, so this implies

that his memory was wiped on purpose because he discovered something or knew something.

My best guess to what Felwinter discovered or found out, was information regarding the

Warminds and Clovis Bray.

Remember that Clovis Bray created the Exos.

In the Lord Timur grimoire card from Destiny 1, Lord Timur takes Felwinter to Mars to find

his creator, Clovis Bray, it is almost like Timur is trying to provoke Felwinter to remember

something, have a listen, "Where are you taking me?"

Felwinter rushes to Timur's side, his eyes jumping focus, anticipating another attack.

"You seem far too obsessed with these 'Warminds'."

Timur stops and stares into the horizon as if smelling something; not danger, discovery.

He draws his fellow Iron Lord close.

"Tell me, Felwinter," he whispers, "what does the word Seraph mean to you?"

Felwinter leans in to whisper back.

"Old Earth theology?

I know its power well; one can make great use of the traps of faith and its myths."

"Damn you, Exos!"

The whisper game abandoned.

"Do you even ponder the before?

Or that number etched into your 'flesh'?

Do you see yourself in your dreams?

Th—"…

Timur grabs Felwinter, bringing him back to his feet, and says, "Have you ever wondered

what it is that calls to you in that void of memory, where the edge of the past infects

your present?"

He returns to his game of whispers.

"It's an itch you can't scratch, isn't it?

Well maybe you can."

"You think I am one of them?

That all Exo are—"

"Lord Felwinter, I know what you are.

And you are no Warmind or even one of its puppets.

Come.

You must see this."

He makes a gesture like he's casting a spell over the sand.

"With all respect, Lord Timur, whatever game you are playing with me has gone on far

too long.

This is just another Dead Zone."

"Oh, is it?"

Timur directs Felwinter's eyes toward the eastern horizon, where a building crowned

with the initials "C.B." is now in view.

"We all have creators — humans, Exo, Warminds, even those poor Awoken.

Some are just easier to find."

Remember too that Clovis Bray also developed SIVA, a nanotechnology that could build entire

civilisations.

Clovis Bray was a massive corporation and had a huge amount of influence and if you

judge how they coerced Cayde-6 into becoming an Exo by buying his debt, Cayde literally

sold his skin to Clovis Bray, then I think it reasonable to say that Clovis Bray is very

very shady, and I speculate that before Felwinter became an Iron Lord, before he joined the

Iron Lords, before he was named Felwinter by his Ghost, he discovered something in the

record files of Clovis Bray or he recovered something in the void of his memories, something

that someone did not want to get out, and I bet that that someone was Clovis Bray.

Felwinter Lies unknowingly, Felwinter Lies because he cannot remember, Felwinter keeps

secrets because his memory has been wiped.

I wonder Guardian, I wonder what Felwinter's original name is, and I also wonder how many

numbers are placed after his Exo name.
