hi there guys it's Susan here I just wanted to give my friends in Australia

the heads up on the Christmas of gum nut ornament crafts that I put on my channel

last year I wanted you guys to know that it's actually time to go gum nut hunting

the gum nuts are starting to form into their little woody seed pods and you'll

find them on the trees and they're ready for you go to go and collect them

because you need to let them dry out so that you can use them for decorating for

those ornaments so they need a bit of time so September and October is the

perfect time to go and collect these lovely little nuts so that they'll be

ready for your Christmas crafts when you're doing them with your classes you

can do with your kids or grandkids now last year I am went to a Christmas

luncheon with ladies and we did this Gumnut ornament craft as a craft for the

luncheon and it was really fun the ladies really enjoyed it so you can use

these gum-nuts for some great Christmas crafts and I just want to give you a

heads up that it's time to collect them so they'll have time to dry out and then

they'll be ready for decorating come mid November and early December and for my

friends who do not live in Australia you don't have access to these lovely little

nuts I bet you you have a seed pod that you can do the same sort of thing and

decorate with glitter and glue I have been trialling some new seed pods and

they're turning out really good so have a look where you live see if there's

something you can use I'll put a link below for the video to

show you how to actually decorate them also I have got a whole playlist of

Christmas themed lesson ideas that you can get a jumpstart on planning your

DIY 3D Cute Artkal/Perler Bead Bubble Tea - Duration: 7:11.

Hey guys, you're watching QDCrafts.

I've been wanting to make this video for so long but I just didn't have an a lot

of time to make this bubble tea that you saw in the intro.

But now that I have my honeydew milk tea, which I don't think this actually has any

tea in it, still delicious anyway, I'm going to be showing you guys these little bubble

tea containers that are really cute and great for holding pencils or whatever fits in here.

I was definitely really inspired by a Youtuber named Nim C who has created a lot of kawaii

or cutesy decorations that look like this, so that's where the idea came from and I

hope you guys enjoy!

You'll need a circular pegboard to make the cup and as a guideline I have this red

line on my pegboard to make it easier for you to see where the beads need to be placed.

I used a shade of light brown Artkal beads for this original bubble tea and I used pastel

green perler beads for a honeydew milk tea.

The reason why I'm putting a dot on this one bead is because it will be a reference

point that will align the tapioca pearls aka the black beads together.

You'll see eventually how things work out and this will make things much easier in the

assembling process.

As usual, I've set my iron at 3 with a piece of parchment paper on top, and ironed both

sides.

Make sure the dot is still visible after ironing because that will make assembly much less

confusing and here it is again, just pause the video to make sure the dot is in the right

position.

For the second piece, you can see that I'm doing the same steps with the red dot as a

reference point that will be essential in later steps so take your time to copy these

templates down because one wrong bead will mess it all up.

No pressure.

After you finish this last piece, let's try to assemble the pieces together.

I'm using Gorilla glue for this but I recommend getting another type of super glue that doesn't

expand when it dries.

This step is where I have to align the dots together when stacking the layers.

You can see that each bead with a dot on top of it is aligned with another marked bead

on the other layers and that's the position they need to be in when glued together.

Hopefully you understand how this system works and here are the next 4 pieces to copy and

mark down.

Just like I did for the first 3 pieces, I'm going to stack the marked beads one on top

of the other in this order.

With all the dots aligned, this is good to glue.

With both stacks dried, I'm gluing the 3 layer stack onto the 4 layer one.

Then I flipped the whole stack over, put a heavy object on top and let it dry.

The layer where there's a lot of light brown beads is where I will stack the cute bubble

tea face.

These three pieces will make a small smile and you can change it up to show a different

expression.

I'm sure you guys are smart enough to design your own and just have fun with it.

These 5 pieces will make squinting eyes and I like I just said you can customize it to

your own liking and make whatever kawaii face you can think of.

If you do try to design your own, I would suggest drawing out the eyes on grid paper

first to know the spacing between the black and brown beads for each layer.

And once you stack them together, it should come together and look like a face.

I glued one more completely brown ring on top and glued the face stack on top of the

tapioca pearl stack.

Before I begin making the lid of the container, I first made a clear ring to put on top of

the cup as well as this thicker double ring that will go on top of that.

This is the bottom of the container cover, so don't glue this onto anything.

All these pieces will assemble into the lid of the cup.

Then I glued all these pieces on top of each other to form a somewhat domed cup lid and

I even made a bubble tea straw by stacking 7 of these small hexagons together.

I can't forget the bottom of the container, so I filled in the brown circle with some

of my unneeded beads since you won't be able to see them anyway an glued that right

on the bottom.

I don't want the lid to slide off when it's on top of the cup therefore, I glued 4 individual

beads around the inner circle of the bottom lid layer to prevent it from moving.

That is how you make a bubble tea container

using fuse beads.

I'm using my honeydew bubble tea as a pencil holder and my original bubble tea for holding

clay charms.

Thank you guys so much for watching, I really hope you guys try this, especially with different

flavours or facial expressions and if you do, tag me @QDCrafts on Twitter or IG so I

can see it.

Let me know if you like bubble tea in the comments below and also tell me if you call

it boba or bubble tea cuz I've only ever called it bubble tea for my entire life and

I've never heard anyone say boba where I live.

I'm sorry if I have a lack of uploads because I'm in school already and biochemistry is

killing me.

So please stay tuned and I will see you guys next time with another QDCraft.

Bye!

Putting Hurricane Harvey In Perspective - Duration: 4:22.

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the coast of Texas.

It was not only one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the United States, it was also

one of the most destructive: Days of historic rain, and devastating floods.

How do we comprehend a storm like this?

[INTRO]

Hurricane Harvey is hard to put in perspective.

It forces us to make some pretty strange comparisons.

Harvey dropped an estimated 27 trillion gallons of rain, and that's been compared to a cube

with 2.8 mile sides, a giant raindrop floating over Manhattan, four Great Salt Lakes, or

65 weeks of Niagara's Horseshoe Falls pouring over Texas.

Or roughly the equivalent to the volume of 40,882,455 olympic swimming pools.

I don't know about you, but I can't picture that many swimming pools.

None of that really means anything to me.

According to the hurricane scale, Harvey made landfall as a Category 4, and was later downgraded

to a tropical storm.

But this scale is based on wind speeds, and doesn't really quantify risks like flooding.

The government designates certain areas as 100-year or 500-year or even 1000-year floodplains,

but that's confusing too.

If you live in a 500-year floodplain, it doesn't mean floods happen there once every 500 years,

it means a flood has a 1-in-500 chance of occurring *every* year.

That might sound like the same thing, but it's not.

These numbers are probabilities.

Houston's had three 500-year floods in the last decade, because that's how probability

works.

If you've ever flipped a coin and gotten a string of tails, you know despite the 50/50

chance of getting heads each time, events sometimes cluster together.

But with a coin, at least we know one side is heads and the other is tails and that they're

evenly weighted.

With weather events like storms, probabilities are trickier to determine in the first place,

let alone keep them accurate as the world's climate keeps changing.

As cities like Houston and elsewhere grow and replace open land with roads and houses,

they use whatever flood plan is in place when those things are built even though future

changes in storms or city development can make those old models out of date.

That means what might have had a 0.2% chance of happening even 10 years ago may be more

likely now.

There's also the puzzling effects climate change is having on big storms.

There's not statistically *more* hurricanes these days, but warmer oceans mean already-strong

storms are getting stronger, dumping more rain, and costing more in damage.

So looking at one number, it might seem like nothing is changing, but looking at another…

things are definitely changing.

Knowing all that though, the hurricane scale or the likelihood of a flood in your area

or how global climate is affecting your local weather, it's still incredibly difficult

to understand what a superstorm might bring, because people suck at understanding risk.

Especially long-term.

Folks who live in areas of frequent flooding tend to underestimate the risks they face.

They're more likely to think they can hunker down and wait out the rising water.

In general, we tend to rely too much on historical data.

What's really alarming is that we underestimate longer term risks like climate change the

same way.

According to a survey done by Yale, people overwhelmingly agree that climate change is

happening and will affect other people in the country.

But if you look at who thinks climate change will affect them personally, pretty much nobody.

Which doesn't make a lot of sense because every year, more and more people are experiencing

the worst effects of a changing climate, millions of them.

Scientists are learning more and more about what the risks of climate change are, from

storms to floods or a hundred other things.

If we learn something from Harvey, it's that we're still very bad at understanding

those risks, and we have a lot of work and research to do, because we really can't

wait until it affects us personally.

It's the only way we'll wrap our brains around what might happen next.

Stay curious

We make our show in Austin, TX, just 150 miles (240 km) inland from where Harvey hit.

We were spared the worst of it, but all of us here know someone who's affected by this

storm.

And Harvey isn't the only major weather disaster to hit the US, or the world this

year.

If you're able to help those affected by these storms, look for a way, because even

the smallest things make a difference.

Misogynistic 90's TV Moments That'll Make You Cringe - Duration: 5:40.

The '90s produced a lot of good TV, and a lot of those shows still inspire nostalgia

and frequent binge sessions from fans.

But even some of the best series of the era had their moments of missing the cultural

mark.

The result are some scenes that are just plain hard to watch in retrospect.

Here are some moments of misogyny you might've missed the first time — but will make you

cringe now.

The jock schlock

Thanks to the era's most unapologetically feminist small screen heroine, Jessie Spano,

there were plenty of moments on Saved by the Bell that took stabs at supposed gender norms.

Unfortunately, A.C. Slater was always right there to undercut her.

For example, in the episode titled "Mamas and the Papas," the Bayside bunch are made

to pair off in fake marriages for a school sociology project.

This culminates in Slater going nuts over Jessie wanting to keep her own last name in

her real marriage.

"This chick's crazy.

I bet you'd want me to have the kids too?"

How Slater managed to win Jessie's heart through all that open machismo remains one of the

biggest mysteries of that entire generation of TV.

"You macho pig."

"Oink oink baby."

Victim-blaming

The subject of Jen Lindley's active love life was always a little too taboo on Dawson's

Creek.

But the show's terrible treatment of her reached new heights when she was almost sexually assaulted

in the episode "Full Moon Rising."

After her Gram manages to stop their smooch-session from becoming full-on date rape, Granny decides

that's the perfect time to blame Jen for everything.

"You will treat me with respect and you will act like a lady."

"Have you no respect for yourself?"

The idea that it was her temptress-like behavior that started all this is shocking and a dangerous

example of rape culture, so yeah.

This is pretty uncomfortable to re-watch, thanks to the incident itself and Gram's shameful

reaction.

Field of vision

The fact that Elaine Benes was the odd woman out in a lot of her guy friends' misinformed

adventures on Seinfeld meant that sometimes she got put into situations that were less

than desirable for a woman.

One such incident happened in an episode titled "The Shoes" in which George Costanza is caught

looking at his prospective boss' daughter's cleavage.

"Get a good look, Costanza?"

He and Jerry then convince Elaine to bare her bosoms in front of the same boss to show

him that it's just a natural reaction to seeing cleavage within their so-called "field of

vision."

This all results in some excessive objectification of basically every woman on the show and advances

the narrative that men only act like boneheads around women because they just can't help

themselves.

Yuck.

"You can't control it.

We're like some weird fish where the eyes operate independently of the head."

Zodiac zinger

Yes, even on-screen children can engage in troubling "slut-shaming" behavior.

Full House might've been a family show, but in the episode titled "A Pinch for a Pinch,"

things got pretty adult in the barb department.

In the episode, DJ and Kimmy try to convince Stephanie to read their high school newspaper,

and things get a little heated.

"Check out my new column.

Madame Kimmy's horoscope."

"Horoscope?

What's that Kimmy?

A telescope that can only see YOUR face?"

A-plus on the zinger, Stephanie.

F-minus on promoting completely unacceptable language to talk about a woman.

Too much testosterone

Tim "The Toolman" Taylor was the father of three boys whose job was to spend a lot of

time grunting like an animal over power saws.

With that much testosterone going around, it's probably not too surprising that he spent

an exhausting amount of his spare time degrading his wife Jill.

But the worst moment of the show had to be when his brother and sister-in-law come for

a visit and he can't contain his thirst over his brother's wife.

A bad situation gets worse when he accidentally walks in on her showering and decides that's

the ideal time to compliment her figure.

"We have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of."

"Yeah, especially you."

As if all that wasn't weird enough, he then consults with his neighbor Wilson and explains

exactly why he can't contain himself.

"You expect family, your reaction to an 80 or 90 year old Grandma but Grandma never looked

like that."

It's basically the G-rated version of the "she asked for it" defense which is … gross.

Grabbing a spoon

Friends might've been there for all of us with rapid-fire jokes, situational humor,

and tons of delicious drama, but there were still a lot of moments that wouldn't land

quite so well on the modern cultural landscape.

Remember when Ross wouldn't let his son play with a doll?

Perhaps the most egregious example of this antiquated worldview came in the series' first

episode, when Joey spun out an elaborate metaphor about how women are food items just waiting

to be dined on by men.

"Let me tell you something Ross there's lots of flavors out there.

There's rocky road and cookie dough and bing cherry vanilla."

What's worse is that it all culminates in him telling Ross that getting back in the

dating game simply means grabbing a spoon and digging in.

The intention might've been innocent, but comparing women to sweet and soft desserts

only meant to reward men after they've sampled the buffet of life is basically pretty gross.

Sandbag Reverse Lunge Exercise - Duration: 2:23.

hey it's Nick Ortego here I'm going to show you how to do a reverse lunge with

the sandbag this is an ultimate sandbag it comes with some inner bags that you

can fill up with sand at different amounts you kind of choose the amounts

well about 20 pounds in here just to kind of show you how to use it well I

like about this one is that it's got handles on it but it's also got these

flaps on the outside edge so that if you want to get a grip work if you want to

get that grip strength any work that comes with sandbags you can get that or

you could have the built-in handles that give you an easier grip so they can

overload the other muscles so we're going to start with just finding a place

to hold the sandbag while you do a reverse lunge way I like to hold it this

like this front of my chest kind of an elbow crease from there go down until

the knee almost touches or barely touches the ground and then come up the

bottom position you want to see is this knee can go a little bit forward but you

want to keep the heel grounded and you don't want it to go too far forward what

you want is the knee barely going forward the heel is grounded the leg

that's in front that's where you're gonna put most of the way so this is my

right leg that's doing most of the work I'm gonna step that with my left foot

keep the right heel really grounded and come up that way I can do one set on one

leg and then switch over the other leg or I can alternate legs doing the left

leg forward right leg forward in that manner an exercise that you want to do

higher repetitions it's not something you want to overload

with like saying less than eight reps if you found any benefit from this video
