Providence part 1 of 2 - Duration: 4:51.

In this video I'm going to talk about providence.

To start with, I want you to know that God did not just set everything in motion and

go away.

In fact God continuously creates.

He didn't just start creating and stop.

God also holds His creation in existence.

We kind of say that God created the universe in a state of journeying.

It's journeying towards a greater perfection, because God continually creates within it.

Things aren't perfect because we are still being created.

In a kind of interesting little sense, we can also say in a way things are perfect

right now because God's plan is destined to be fulfilled.

The process of our creation is a part of that perfection.

In God's plan, we are God's coworkers.

We know this because God gave us intelligence and knowledge of right and wrong.

So He gave us the ability to understand and work for or against God.

We also receive freewill, which is part of God's plan, that we have freewill.

Freewill is important.

We can't love unless we have freewill.

It's not love unless we love out of freewill.

So, as coworkers of God's plan, we do our part and God does His part.

We shouldn't try to do what belongs to God.

We shouldn't expect God to do what belongs to us.

If God gives us certain capabilities and talents, we should consider that an invitation from

God to use those capabilities and talents for good.

There are many things, also, that are completely out of our control.

We need to leave those to God.

We need to trust God, that God knows what He is doing, even if what is happening looks

wrong.

That being said, we can also pray.

With prayer, we can and should ask God for mercy for ourselves and for each other, so

people will face fewer hardships.

With prayer, by the way, that's an integral part of how we cooperate with God and God's

plan.

When people work together they need to communicate.

So, that is part of our nature that we must communicate with God.

Ask God for things so that we know for our part that we need God.

You should notice that the most innocent man, Jesus Christ, was crucified by the Father's

design.

It looks like the worst possible act, but we know that it worked for the greatest good.

So we should trust God.

Some might ask, "why doesn't God help with some of these things?"

God doesn't help is cases when we are trying to go about life without God.

So, what we are required to do is keep God first in everything.

Pray always.

And love and obey God.

So, in the next part when I continue with God's providence, I'm going to talk about

the question of why evil exists.

Providence part 2 of 2 - Duration: 4:53.

I'm going to talk about providence and about why evil exists.

So, evil only exists because good exists.

If there was no good, it would not be possible for there to be evil, because something can

only be called evil, if it is a harm to good.

Because of this, evil can only be considered an absence of good, like dark is the absence

of light.

So, God does not will evil, but only permits it as a side effect of what is good.

For example, we have freewill that God gave us, and that is good that we have freewill,

but freewill allows us to choose to do evil things, and that's a bad side effect.

But the good is sufficient enough good to warrant allowing the evil side effect.

Another thing is that if you recall, I made a video about morality, in Morality part 1

I talked about how an act that has an evil side effect can still be morally good if it

means the good effect of the act happens at least as immediately in the order of causality

as the bad effect, and if the good effect is sufficiently desirable to compensate for

allowing the bad effect.

God follows that rule in His creation.

Evil can exist but the good is always greater.

Also, evil cannot frustrate God's plan.

So, God is all powerful.

God in His power can always make the greater good come out of any evil.

This of course does not give us permission to commit evil for some sort of greater good.

In fact we're still punished for evil acts.

We are not allowed anyway to commit an evil so that some good can happen at some later

time in the order of causality.

We should instead always cooperate with God in making good come out of evil.

In other words, making good come out of evil is not just for God to do.

It is for us to do as well as God's coworkers.

God also makes use of our weaknesses.

Consider an employer.

An employer looking for an employee is looking for strengths, but God doesn't look for strengths,

because God doesn't need our strengths.

Instead God looks for weaknesses.

God is all powerful.

He doesn't need our strengths, but our weaknesses are useful to God because God doesn't have

weaknesses.

So, we see many examples in Scripture of God deliberately calling the weak even though

He could have called the strong.

For example, God called Moses.

Moses couldn't speak very well., but God asked Moses to negotiate with Pharaoh for the Israelites.

So, how did God use that?

God used that so Moses in his failure to persuade Pharaoh created an opportunity for God to

show forth His power.

God chooses the weak so that His own strength will be revealed.

Another well known person is David, later called King David, but he was originally a

shepherd.

God made him a king even though he had no experience at all.

A couple other examples that you can read about if you want.

You should read about Gideon in the book of Judges, Jonah from the book of Jonah, and

Joseph from the book of Genesis.

So with that, that is what I had to say about providence and the mystery of evil.
