North Korea's continued provocations have triggered a slew of joint military drills

between allied nations in a show of force against the regime.

The U.S. has joined forces with Japan and China is showing its naval might alongside

Russia.

Ro Aram has the details.

As well as carrying out bombing drills with South Korea's Air Force, the U.S. military

also teamed up with its Japanese counterpart at the foot of Mount Fuji on Monday.

They carried out joint urban warfare and frontline rescue exercises as part of what is known

as the Orient Shield17 drills - an annual two-week exercise, involving some 12-hundred

soldiers that ends next Monday.

While American troops were comprised of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, the Japanese

detail was part of the country's defense forces.

China has also begun naval drills with Russia near Vladivostok and less than 200 kilometers

from the North Korea border.

They are being conducted between Peter the Great Bay and the southern part of the Sea

of Okhotsk, to the north of Japan.

The drills are the second part of China-Russian naval exercises this year, the first part

of which was staged in the Baltic in July.

Beijing and Moscow did not directly link the drills to the current tension on the Korea

peninsula.

Both countries have repeatedly called for a peaceful solution and talks to resolve the

issue.

Category 5 Hurricane Maria powers up for another blow to Caribbean - Duration: 0:51.

Yet another Category 5 hurricane is bearing down on Caribbean islands that are still licking

their wounds from Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Maria was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 5 in a single day, and

is now packing 260 kilometer an hour winds... and even more powerful gusts.

Maria's eye is forecast to pass over Dominica within the next few hours,.. and it's expected

to make landfall on Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

It would mark the first time in 85 years for the island to take a direct hit from such

a strong hurricane.

President Trump on Monday declared states of emergency in Puerto Rico and in the U.S.

Virgin Islands, where all Irma recovery efforts have been suspended to focus on Maria's impact.

EU turning screw on North Korea by slashing wire transfer limit: Report - Duration: 0:42.

The European Union is strengthening its punitive measures on North Korea by slashing wire transfer

limits to the reclusive state.

The Japanese daily,... Yomiuri Shimbun,... reported Tuesday that the EU plans to reduce

the transfer limit from the current 18-thousand U.S. dollars to six thousand per person.

The move is aimed at sharply reducing the amount of money North Korean workers can send

back to the regime.

The funds are assumed to go toward Pyongyang's illicit nuclear and missile programs.

According to EU statistics released in 2016, there are more than six-hundred North Korean

workers *legally employed in ten EU member nations.

Hyundai Motor hopes to turn fortunes around with Genesis G70 - Duration: 2:07.

Hyundai Motor has fallen on *relatively hard times this year,... due to sagging sales at

home and abroad.

Looking to turn its fortunes around and challenge European heavyweights like BMW,... Korea's

largest automaker has unveiled the latest model of its luxury sedan.

Last week, Hyundai Motor officially unveiled... its new, Genesis G70 sports sedan... aiming

to go head-to-head with its more established German rivals...

BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

The G70 is a compact luxury vehicle,... and a smaller cousin of the Genesis brand's G80

and G90 luxury cars... that have already been released.

Hyundai's newest creation is an ambitious new challenger in a market already dominated

by the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The Korean automaker is confident,... the G70 has what it takes to compete,... in a

market seemingly cornered... by its well-entrenched German competitors.

(Korean) "The 3-point-3 liter turbo model can go from

zero to 100 kilometers an hour in 4-point-7 seconds, far outpacing the BMW3 or Mercedes

Benz C-Class."

Hyundai Motor is hoping to revive lackluster sales in the domestic market,... with the

release of the G70 in Korea this month,... before expanding to markets abroad early next

year.

It's a make-or-break moment for the automaker... which is facing several headwinds,... such

as China's retaliation over South Korea's THAAD deployment,... and the Trump administration's

protectionist trade policies.

Hyundai Motor's sales in China plummeted by nearly half in July compared to last year,...

while its factories in the country were forced to shut down temporarily... due to supply

issues.

Competition in the market is heating up... with foreign automakers also releasing the

best and latest models of their own in the Korean market,... adding to the pressure being

felt by Hyundai.

With domestic consumption still appearing fragile,... rival carmakers are looking to

target customers with thicker wallets,... setting the stage for a showdown in the luxury

vehicle market.

Spain is latest nation to expel North Korean ambassador - Duration: 1:47.

Spain is the latest country to send the ambassador from North Korea packing,... in response to

the regime's continued nuclear threats.

It joins the growing list of nations that are trying to send a stern diplomatic message

and up the pressure on Pyongyang.

Kwon Jang-ho has this report.

The Spanish foreign ministry told the North Korean ambassador on Monday that it's time

to go.

They informed him that he was considered a 'persona non grata' due to his regime's continued

pursuit of nuclear weapons, and was told to leave Spain by the end of the month.

Spain now joins a growing a list of countries from all corners of the world who have taken

similar action in recent weeks.

Mexico and Peru have expelled their North Korean ambassadors, along with Kuwait, who

also ordered the embassy staff to be reduced from eight to four.

The Philippines earlier this month also announced that it would cease trading with the rogue

state.

The U.S. has been calling on all countries to cut their diplomatic and financial ties

to North Korea, following the latest UN Security Council resolution.

The kicking out of these diplomats is expected to create some economic obstacles for the

regime, and affect North Koreans working in those countries.

But although it does send a message, without cutting off diplomatic ties entirely, such

actions can be seen as more of a symbolic gesture.

(Korean - ) "For North Korea, it will cause difficulties

in their usual channels of illegal smuggling and affect their economic relationship with

these countries.

However it's more about sending a message to the regime.

If international pressure increases further it could lead to greater diplomatic action,

but those nations will want to see how North Korea reacts first.'
