The unusually active 2017 Atlantic hurricane season continues to rage into fall as Puerto
Rico recovers from Hurricane Maria's devastation.
Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello praised President Trump for his rapid response to
Hurricane Maria, adding that the American island is still struggling to recover from
"the biggest catastrophe in modern history for Puerto Rico," according to Politico.
Gov. Rossello and other officials lauded President Trump and the Federal government for having
a comprehensive relief plan in place before the storm hit.
The American island of Puerto Rico has long been neglected by the Federal government.
The territory, which is home to 3.4 million Americans, does not send Representatives or
Senators to Congress and has no Electoral College votes.
Resident Commission Jenniffer Gonzalez, Puerto Rico's non-voting congressional representative,
explained that President Trump's response is a welcome change from previous administrations.
"This is the first time we get this type of federal coordination," she added.
Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday as a Category 4 storm.
The devastation was immediate.
Authorities have confirmed 10 deaths, but the number is expected to rise as mayors report
from remote towns and communities.
Many major stretches of the island remain inaccessible to first responders.
Mayors continue to arrive in the capital of San Juan to meet with Gov. Rossello, and they
bring a long list of desperately needed supplies.
Mayor Jose Sanchez Gonzalez, from the coastal town of Manati, told the governor that his
community is completely out of fuel and fresh water.
"Hysteria is starting to spread.
The hospital is about to collapse.
It's at capacity," he said, with tears streaming down his face.
"We need someone to help us immediately."
Authorities from the community of Vega Alta told the governor that the entire neighborhood
of Fatima could not be reached.
The authorities were desperate to enter the neighborhood and evacuate residents from a
local nursing home.
"I need to get there today," Mayor Oscar Santiago said to reporters.
"Not tomorrow, today."
Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico's already outdated infrastructure.
1360 out of the island's 1600 phone towers have been downed by the storm, and 85 percent
of the above ground internet, cabal, and phone lines have been knocked out.
Major swaths of the island are completely in the dark, as the island cannot afford to
repair their already crumbling infrastructure.
Puerto Rico sustained massive damage, as did Houston and Florida.
Will the US be able to help Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico's main port opened Saturday allowing 11 ships stocked full of federal
aid to dock.
The ships delivered 23,000 cots, 1.6 million gallons of water, food, and generators.
Many more ships are scheduled to arrive over the next few days.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials arrived with the ships and brought
satellite phones to all of the island's towns and cities.
Many municipalities are still without power, fresh water, or lines to the outside world.
The Federal government freed up $1 billion in local funds to provide relief for Hurricane
Maria, but Gov. Rossello says the island still needs more.
"We're going to request waivers and other mechanisms so Puerto Rico can respond to this
crisis," the governor said.
"Puerto Rico will practically collect no taxes in the next month."
Puerto Rico is a shadow of its former self due to the storms and the humanitarian crisis
in the aftermath.
Hopefully, with the aid and relief efforts heralded by the Federal government, the nation
can recover and persevere as Americans do.

Morning trainiacs.
One thing that I learned while at,
learned while at Interbike last week,
is how big a trend it is
with triathletes, road cyclists, even mountain bikers,
getting off the road and doing a huge majority
of their training indoors on a trainer.
There's a few reason for that
that they told me about last week
that I am actually experiencing right now.
You know the biggest and most important for us
age group triathletes is how efficient
time spent on an indoor trainer is
because you can hit basically, like for example today
I want to do a 10 minute interval at 240 watts.
It's not like I've got hills and stop signs
and wind and cars that are going to break up
that 10 minutes.
I can hit that 10 minutes exactly
and the entire 10 minutes is going to be really purposeful.
Not so easy when you're on the road
and you've got to deal with the usual things
that happen out on the road that you can't control.
I hate this blue tire by the way.
It just signifies pain.
Now in addition to that, the time itself
before and after, like the entire ride time,
is also more efficient
because I'm not spending as much time getting ready
to deal with weather, to deal with being safe,
having all the gear necessary to repair my bike
out on the road, phone home, support fellow riders.
There's just a heck of a lot less gear
that I need to be getting together,
I mean besides now,
but typically a lot of people in the winter
will just set up one stationary bike,
leave it set up, and then all I have to do
is put on a pair of bike shorts,
get all your nutrition off to the side, and go,
so it's easier for you to get in longer workouts,
say before work or in the evening.
Finally the specificity that you can achieve
with a workout, now with these new trainers,
since what I learned at Interbike is possible,
is completely unmatched.
You can basically do the exact race
that you're training for on a trainer.
Yeah, so with all of these smart trainers,
you could basically ride your exact course,
the Wahoo KICKR paired with the climb.
You can basically go along with the exact grade
in real time of what your course is going to be.
The TacX NEO, you can feel road vibrations
if you're on cobbles or gravel,
apparently you can feel that.
And the Cyclops Hammer actually pairs with the Zwift
and in real time adjusts your tension.
So like let's say for example right now
I'm training in Winnipeg, pancake flat, outside,
but the Austin course that I'm going to be doing
on October 29th is really hilly.
I can go and take a GPS file from that Austin course
and if I were to go on one of those smart trainers,
I can basically be doing that course
over and over and over, and when we start getting
that specificity narrowed down
in the last two months before a race,
that is immensely powerful.
It's good stuff.
I got to train.
Unfortunately I don't yet have one of those smart trainers.
Someday soon.

we're like trading footage here and there,
and then oh, god forbid the footage she needs is on here,
and she's over there and it's here,
so now the idea is that with this server,
it's a heck of a lot easier for us to,
you know, go back and forth with all the footage
that we need, and as we start traveling more,
covering more shows that are away,
conventions, races, things like that,
it's going to be easier for me to just log in
from a hotel room and be like boom,
there's everything that I need for Tri Taren.
It's all so foreign to me.
I think like three years ago I did not even know
how to make a video on a smart phone.
How's that for putting it into perspective?

with the eye liner
using this angled brush
