Japan willing to pay costs of N. Korea nuclear inspections: Kyodo - Duration: 0:54.

With North Korea now engaged with South Korea and getting ready for talks with the U.S.,

it looks like Japan doesn't want to be left out.

Tokyo says that if the North agrees to allow inspections of its nuclear facilities... it's

willing to foot the initial costs up to 300 million yen, or about 2-point-8 million dollars.

That's according to Kyodo News Agency, citing multiple Japanese government officials.

Analysts say Japan is trying to make sure it has a voice in the process of North Korea's

denuclearization and related discussions.

The Kyodo report went on to say that Japan will continue to pressure North Korea into

taking concrete action on the nuclear issue.

Pyongyang hasn't allowed in nuclear inspectors from the IAEA since 2009.

Inspections of its main nuclear facility at Yongbyon would cost up to around 3-point-7

million dollars, so Japan's proposed contribution would foot most of the bill.

Researchers develop touchscreen technology by using paper and pencil - Duration: 1:31.

Korean researchers have developed a new touchscreen technology that could prove a lot cheaper

to make than the usual LED screens.

That's because, they say, it basically uses two simple components -- pencil and paper.

This new kind of sensor has the potential to be used in a range of products, like wearable

devices.

Cho Sung-min reports.

Korean researchers have recently found a way to make touchscreens using just pencil and

paper.

The research team at Yonsei University say, as evidenced by the required materials, that

the process is very simple and cost-effective.

They say the key is the graphite in the pencil, which conducts electricity around the paper's

surface.

They used that mechanism to make a paper-based keyboard, using a pencil to draw the kind

of electrical circuits a real keyboard would have.

"The paper was made with special fibers so that it can endure the friction created when

written on with a pencil.

Thanks to this, the paper doesn't require semiconductor processing to be made touch-sensitive."

Once the paper keyboard has been coated with an electrical insulator, the final process,...

you can type on it, just like on a computer.

It can make capital and lowercase letters depending on how hard the keys are pressed.

The team are on a mission to prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution, and they're now

conducting further research to apply this method of touch sensitivity to other devices

in the near future.

Trump says talks with N. Korea will go 'very well' - Duration: 1:30.

Comments from U.S. President Donald Trump appear to confirm that talks with North Korea

will be going ahead.

On Saturday, he said he thinks the talks will go well, and seemed to trust that North Korea

will stick to the conditions agreed upon for the talks -- namely, that it doesn't test

any missiles in the meantime.

Kim Mok-yeon reports.

Speaking with reporters Saturday, local time, before leaving the White House for a rally

in Pennsylvania, President Trump sounded positive about the upcoming talks with North Korean

leader Kim Jong-un.

I think we are going to have a tremendous success.

It is going to be something very special."

He said that the precondition for meeting is that North Korea should not fire any missiles

in the meantime, and implied he thinks the North actually does want to denuclearize.

Trump also said that many countries have showed support for the historic talks as well.

A day earlier, on Friday, Trump tweeted that he trusts North Korea will keep its promise

not to test missiles while the talks are happening.

At this point, President Trump seems to have cleared up some mixed messages from officials.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders had said that the talks won't go ahead unless

North Korea backs up its words with "concrete" action to denuclearize.

South Korea's national security adviser Chung Eui-yong, who is on his way back to Seoul

after meeting with President Trump, said he heard no mention of backing out... and that

the announcement he made in front of the White House was based on the President's direct

words.

South Korea has clinched its first medal at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang.

Nordic para skier Sin Eui-hyun took the bronze in the men's 15-kilometer sitting cross-country...

at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre.

He came in third out of 27 skiers with a time of 42 minutes 28-point-9 seconds.

Sin's is South Korea's third medal in its Winter Paralympic history, adding to the silver

medals Korea won in 2002 and 2010.

On the Games' first day, South Korea's hockey and wheelchair curling teams got off to a

good-start as well.

The hockey team beat Japan 4 to 1, while the curlers won both their matches against the

United States and the Neutral Paralympic Athletes from Russia.
