In this video, we are going to take a first look at the impressive BBC micro:bit board.
This board, although small in size, is very capable and very easy to program.
But is it better than an Arduino Uno for a complete beginner in programming and electronics?
Let's find out!
Hello, guys, I am Nick and welcome to educ8s.tv a channel that is all about DIY electronics
projects.
In this channel, I share everything about the projects I build to help you develop similar
projects or inspire you to start making things because it is easy, fun and creative.

The micro:bit development board is a relatively new development board which was released in
2016.
It is developed with the intention to encourage children to get involved with programming,
electronics and making in general.
The purpose of this board resonates with me because I worked as a computer teacher for
over 6 years in the past and I taught kids to code.
I think coding is a very important skill in today's world, and that's the reason I
created this YouTube channel in the first place; to show people that programming can
be fun and easy to learn!
Thousands of micro:bit boards were given away to every 11-year-old school child in Britain
last year.
Now the board is also available as a commercial product.
It costs around 15$.
I got the micro:bit GO bundle for around 17$ from DFrobot.com website.
You can find a link to it in the description below.
The micro:bit comes in a small box inside which we can find, a safety guide, a small
instruction leaflet, the board itself, a small battery box, two batteries and a USB cable.
Let's now take a closer look at the board.
As you can see the board is very small in size, way smaller than the Raspberry Pi or
even the Arduino Uno.
The micro:bit features a 5x5 led matrix and two push buttons on the front side and some
sensors and microcontrollers at the back side.
But first, let's power it up and see what it does out of the box.
At first, the board welcomes us with some cool animations on the LED matrix, and then
it displays a Hello Message and guides us to press the buttons, shake the board or even
play a small chase the dot game on it.
Cool!
Lastly, the board encourages us to start coding, but first, let's take a closer look at the
hardware of the board because it is very interesting!
The board offers two 32 bit ARM processors at the back of the chip, but only one of them
is available to execute our code on.
The other one is responsible for the USB communication with the computer.
So the Micro bit features the following: A 32Bit user programmable CPU which is clocked
at 16 MHz.
It also offers Bluetooth connectivity, 16 KBs of RAM memory, 256 KB of flash memory,
19 GPIOS pins, I2C, SPI and UART Buses, 3 Analog to Digital Pins; a 5x5 LED matrix,
an Accelerometer, A Magnetometer, A thermometer, and a light meter!
Impressive stuff!
Compared to an Arduino Uno, the micro:bit is much more capable since it features many
sensors, two buttons, and many LEDs!
As a result, all you need to get to start making projects is the micro:bit and nothing
else.
In comparison, with an Arduino Uno board, all you can do is to blink an LED which is
not very compelling to children in an age of smartphones and game consoles.
But, with the microbit board children can build a simple game in minutes so this might
get their attention!
We are not limited to the embedded sensors that the board offers though.
We can use some crocodile clips and have easy access to three pins of the microcontroller!
Of course, we can have access to all the pins of the microcontroller if we use the Edge
Connector Breakout board.
But even without it we can build many projects with this fantastic board.
Let's do just that, let's create a simple project.
There are 5 ways to program this board: • The first one is Javascript
• We can use the Block Editor developed by Microsoft
• Another way to program the board is the Touch Develop interface
• We can also use Micro Python • Lastly, we can use our familiar Arduino
IDE The most fun and easy to way to program the
board is to use the Block Editor.
All we have to do is to open a web browser and visit this website:
https://makecode.microbit.org/ The Block Editor loads up, and we are ready
to develop our first program simply by dragging and dropping commands!
There are commands for everything the board offers.
Simply by dragging the command show string, for example, we can display text on the LED
matrix.
If we place that command inside the On Start block, for example, the text "Hello" appears
on the LED matrix of the simulator.
The commands click together like Lego bricks!
How cool is that!
Also, the Block Editor environment supports many languages.
Microsoft has done a great job on this software!
Programming a development board this way is very fun and easy!
Let's now build our first useful program.
Let's build a thermometer!
When we press button A, the board will display the temperature on the LED matrix.
It won't take us more than a minute!
First of all, we delete all the blocks.
Then from the input tab, we drag and drop the On_Button A Pressed block.
Then we go to the Basic tab we select the show_number block and we attach it to the
On_Button pressed block.
Now, all we have to do is to get the temperature.
We go to the Input tab again, and we drag the temperature command and drop it on the
input of the show number command like this.
We can test our program on the emulator and then we can download the code to the board
itself.
We copy the .hex file that is created and we paste it into the micro bit drive that
appears if we plug in the board to the computer.
Now press the reset button and our first program is running on the microbit board!
Fantastic!
Coding can be so simple and quick!
Have you ever seen a more user friendly programming environment?
I haven't seen anything as easy as this one!
Even though the Block Editor programming environment was designed to be used mainly by kids, I
think it is great for adults as well.
If you are a complete beginner to electronics and programming, this is the best way to start.
Forget about the Arduino or the Raspberry Pi.
Get a micro:bit board.
Learn the basics of programming, like loops, conditional structures, functions and so on.
Build some simple projects with it.
Then, if you are limited by the Block Editor environment, switch to microPython and learn
a real programming language!
After that you are free to move on to an Arduino or a Raspberry Pi to build more complex projects.
Don't just copy and paste the code I or other people provide online.
Learn to code; it is an extremely useful skill to have!

I learned how to code about 20 years ago when I was in high school.
We were taught GW-Basic under DOS, and we were typing text commands on a black window,
and all we could do was to make some calculations or to display some text on the screen.
Using the knowledge, I got from School I managed to program my friend's Commodore 64 for
the first time to display some custom text.
That was the first program ever developed, and I was so excited.
As you can see I am still excited about programming, programming became my career.
So, as a final word, if you want to learn how to program, I truly believe this is the
best way to start.

One Pixel Attack Defeats Neural Networks | Two Minute Papers #240 - Duration: 3:15.
Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.
We had many episodes about new wondrous AI-related algorithms, but today, we are going to talk
about an AI safety which is an increasingly important field of AI research.
Deep neural networks are excellent classifiers, which means that after we train them on a
large amount of data, they will be remarkably accurate at image recognition.
So generally, accuracy is subject to maximization.
But, no one has said a word about robustness.
And here is where these new neural-network defeating techniques come into play.
Earlier we have shown that we can fool neural networks by adding carefully crafted noise
to an image.
If done well, this noise is barely perceptible and can fool the classifier into looking at
a bus and thinking that it is an ostrich.
We often refer to this as an adversarial attack on a neural network.
This is one way of doing it, but note that we have to change many-many pixels of the
image to perform such an attack.
So the next question is clear.
What is the lowest number of pixel changes that we have to perform to fool a neural network?
What is the magic number?
One would think that a reasonable number would at least be a hundred.
Hold on to your papers because this paper shows that many neural networks can be defeated
by only changing one pixel.
By changing only one pixel in an image that depicts a horse, the AI will be 99.9% sure
that we are seeing a frog.
A ship can also be disguised as a car, or, amusingly, almost anything can be seen as
an airplane.
So how can we perform such an attack?
As you can see here, these neural networks typically don't provide a class directly,
but a bunch of confidence values.
What does this mean exactly?
The confidence values denote how sure the network is that we see a labrador or a tiger
cat.
To come to a decision, we usually look at all of these confidence values and choose
the object type that has the highest confidence.
Now clearly, we have to know which pixel position to choose and what color it should be to perform
a successful attack.
We can do this by performing a bunch of random changes to the image and checking how each
of these changes performed in decreasing the confidence of the network in the appropriate
class.
After this, we filter out the bad ones and continue our search around the most promising
candidates.
This process we refer to as differential evolution, and if we perform it properly, in the end,
the confidence value for the correct class will be so low that a different class will
take over.
If this happens, the network has been defeated.
Now, note that this also means that we have to be able to look into the neural network
and have access to the confidence values.
There is also plenty of research works on training more robust neural networks that
can withstand as many adversarial changes to the inputs as possible.
I cannot wait to report on these works as well in the future!

hello everyone and thanks for tuning into the financial investor channel my
name is Brent and today we're going to be covering the market indexes my
facebook posts that I posted over on Facebook I started writing up some
articles again overall my website we're gonna be covering five stocks I was
tracking this week and taking a look at Merrill edges research to take a look if
they have some more news that I was not tracking this week so let's go ahead and
get into the S&P 500 really quickly so S&P 500 five day change up two points so
two point zero three percent still down for the year by one point two two
percent so of course if you're brand new to my channel I do make these weekly
recaps for historical references so every week I can take a look at my
playlist of weekly recaps that I could say hey this week was negative negative
positive positive negative negative I like it for just historical stuff its
weekly change is it important to long-term investors because whether you
buy in at the top or you buy in at the bottom you can't predict the market you
don't know what its gonna do you just used to buy if it goes down you buy in
some more if it goes down more you're buying some more you keep averaging it
in if it goes up great you're making money but over the long term your your
stocks are going to be going positive because with inflation most of the
stocks as long as you're making good solid picks or following the indexes
over time that will generally be positive I've transitioned from a growth
investor back in 2005 until 2050 16 2017 I was a growth investor you know I still
invested it indexes and single stocks but 2017 I transitioned to a dividend
investor because I wanted cash flow that I could use to buy other stuff but that
wasn't producing as fast it was a very slow process the time to research stocks
to buy correctly on dividend stocks you know to buy those single allocated
stocks that would Perdue dividends and such it became kinda you
know not a hassle but it was a really you know you spend a whole night reading
a specific 10k on one stock and it could pan out it could not pan out but I
turned my attention towards real estate I went to my first real estate meetup
group tonight I spent four hours there that had a home inspector come out talk
about home inspections he gave us a discount card he gave us his number it
was great now when I go out there and I buy my first house I already have my
house I when I'm by when I buy my first asset my first real estate house my
first rental anyways I can have a home inspection by him I still have a
discount there's lots of other investors that are I connected with many of them
invest locally some invest out of state as well they know plumbers electricians
also home appraisals contractors they know where they've bought where that you
know what's good for them what's worked out for them so I talked to people that
did commercial that did rental single-family some that had duplexes
some that just bought a triplex that was a foreclosure I talked to so many of
them so I spent four hours there talking to all sorts of people and picked the
brain so great tomorrow I'm going to another class on Saturday to phan
Merrill's fix and you know flip fix and flip houses I just like to listen to
what they had to say it could be repetitive it could be useful but it's
all knowledge that I could use potentially to benefit me so it's all
free so I decided I'm gonna go that is beyond
the point for the weekly recap so let's go ahead and get back into this so see
here Dow Jones up 2.4 2% this week down for the year by two point four nine
percent so Dow Jones is the hardest-hit index right now followed our behind by
the S&P 500 and then the Nasdaq is the only one that recently gained their
year-to-date positive during this week so Monday they had you know last week
they lost more than 6 percent I posted a picture over on Facebook of what they
had lost last week so Nasdaq ended last week with the negative
six point three one I bought up the Nasdaq last week I was gobbling Nasdaq
up i following index that's what I've been buying lately is the tax ox because
I can read tech and understanding a little bit better than I could read you
know utility companies or anything out there so I decided the follow that
instead so I followed the Nasdaq it's up 1.01 over the five-day change but here
today positive two point three two percent now over on Facebook last week I
did post that the Nasdaq it came down by six point three one percent
this is QQQ which just is the standard Nasdaq I like to track another one
that's much more riskier that's tqq it's a leverage one I don't recommend anyone
even take a look at it and yeah unless you want to lose money right Apple had
reached 164 I actually have Apple pulled up here and this is one I was really
following so I posted this on March 23rd which is Friday last week I was really
hoping it would go down into the 150s because I'm invested in Apple I want to
see this stock go down over the short term of course but I would like to have
average down my buying price you know quite a bit and if it did get dipped
down into the 150s that's great I would have bought more and would have been
great but it didn't it just stayed around 163 164 and then came back up I
believe right now 167 so Tuesday rumors people are talking about General
Electric might get rescued by Warren Buffett but there's so many issues with
this company I don't believe Warren Buffett would do
it I would seem like a very risky move for somebody who does very sound
investments why would you go into something that has so many issues on
lawsuits and liabilities and such that doesn't sound like something that would
be you know in his best interests so due to rumors General Electric did spike up
by more than four percent on Tuesday here you can see here markets open some
sort of rumors went out man I wish I could really some rumors people would
listen to me and the stock would fly you know it went out by more than 4% it
came up another additional like almost 2 percent on Wednesday and then kind of
simmered down ending the week up by only two point
five point nine seven percent over the last five days and of course I did
release my stocks with X Davina's next weeks I have to change the thumbnail I
no longer do five stocks because sometimes I put out some really bad
stocks but in this example what I've been doing is if you've checked out my
previous videos where I use dividend com where I use white sharks you see my
whole process I take roughly thirty fourty stocks i cram them all into y
charts i have videos on how to access y charts how you can get it for free with
my financial metrics that i use i have videos on dividend comm and all sorts of
stuff I'll have those links somewhere in the top right corner during this video
if you click on them you can check them out and I've decided that I'm only going
to be showcasing stocks that meet my criteria and I screen these socks so I
take 3040 stocks somewhere in that range that are neutral and pot you know from
very great five-star rated stocks to 2.4 which is like average or 3.4 which is
average neutral stocks i screen them for price earnings less than 25 yields over
to rising revenue-raising net income over the last 10 years and then they can
have free cash flow or they can have a little bit of negative free cash flow if
it's like a financial or something negative free cash flow it could be bad
but at the same time that's why you look at their ten caves why did this cash
flow go so what I do is I just sort of give a quick rundown of the stock
description of it X dividend payout ten years of revenue free cash flow net
income talking about its one-year metrics here dividend price dividend
yield price the book PE talked a little bit about it price earnings the compare
into the stock industry a little bit more about it so that's what I do every
week on Tuesday I'm going to be writing these up then I'll be making my video
release in an 8 a.m. on Wednesday I'm gonna do that I like writing these up
and it's a lot of fun I got an email a couple of emails
talking saying that they enjoyed those articles so if you guys are interested

what else did I post Amazon down it was down at a point 8 percent so this was on
March 28th this is Wednesday they fell down by 6 percent because Trump came
after them saying that they need to get taxed more their e-commerce needs to get
like uh you know tightened up and all sorts of stuff happened to Amazon
Thursday they opened up they went down by two percent they actually recovered
and ended up positive by one percent I believe on Wednesday or Thursday I know
they came up positive by the end of the week they let's see here I actually have
Amazon right here okay so they didn't come up positive but they did come down
hard okay so it's actually surprising I know my friend owns Amazon and now I'm
actually surprised at that huge loss yeah so Trump had blasted out I don't
know if it was a tweet or something but he had said that Amazon had been on his
list of targeted stuff if you head over to CNN here market data market there's
an article here talking about the trade crackdown Trump has always promised and
I don't know if this was oh this is my South North Korea and China and some
like that but there was one article I posted I don't know if this was that
talking about how Trump is aiming here why is the United States Post Office
losing billions of dollars a year charging while charging Amazon oh yeah
he talked about it yeah he did tweet about it so that causes our stock to
plummet for the for the five-day change down by more than six percent so it's
crazy crazy how how stocks are affected by news like that
now so Netflix down 3.7% that's when I was following Amazon down 6% general I
took up we already covered that one Microsoft was when I was just taking a
look at now over at Merrill edge I'm not I'm still signed in I just want to make
sure there is no current market update available at this time there's actually
a lot that went on this week which is surprising you know the whole Twitter
thing with Amazon tech stocks tanked on Tuesday Wednesday and you can see that
here on this Nasdaq here this is the Nasdaq so Tuesday down nearly three
percent Wednesday down an additional 1% Freddie it did pick it back up
I did make a great deal between those last two weeks I bought the Nasdaq very
cheap and sold it very nicely and it's here what else is going on you know
Facebook's coming back up regardless of their data leak which is fine I don't
think they should have fell more than 10% you know I could see them falling 4
to 6 percent but the whole thing will get recovered so anybody invested in at
Facebook they have a great balance sheet I don't know if I hold them within the
Nasdaq I actually do hold some of the Nasdaq I hold an index within the Nasdaq
which I updated my portfolio over on my website as well oh this is my dividends
so I made dividends in March actually posted that so I made a hundred to $14
in dividends in March what else is kind of going on but just little things here
and there so the most active stocks of course are GE on that went down on
Friday a little bit but they sounded a positive so Bank of America micron
technology down for the week quite a bit here you can see here week down quite a
bit here I don't I don't track that one myself if we head over here and just
kind of type in M M you will see five-day changed down
11.5% dang that's a big loss right there I would not have been a great happy
investor if I if I bought on the news that this thing was coming on fire you
know it was on fire I know so many people
were talking on Jeremy's channel the financial financial education I don't
think he was invested in it but I know a lot of his subscribers and viewers were
invested a micron saying that he needs to buy into it if you're buying because
just similar to the the crypto hole buzz if you're buying because somebody says
that the stock is hot that is not the time to be buying the stock that's a
huge red sign if everyone's like get into the stock it's making money it's
going up so fast you need to jump into this and get money now that's terrible
time to jump into it because everybody's already made money on it so terrible
idea and let's see here so this is my current portfolio here okay so I did
update it so all I hold right now is Apple and one you know five shares a
Ford which I think it may be positive now or almost positive I'm gonna be
dumping for it I'm not gonna be trying to hold very many stocks I'm only gonna
be holding Apple within my Roth IRA and my IRA I'm still holding Apple for the
for the kind of midterm right now because the Apple I believe over the
short term will bounce back right now I have a buying cost of 169 I believe over
the next three to six months it'll come back up into the $200 range and the TQ
is just the Nasdaq it's just a leveraged Nasdaq fund I its current unit costs
average is 143 92 that's actually I think that's actually wrong but let me
go check out my activity of where I bought and sold it real quick we're
gonna pause the video okay so here's a snippet I crossed out my account names
but these are all so I was trading the nads that guy was watching and as that
come down it's currently trading at this specific one so let's go look up eek eek
akyuu this is a leveraged ETF I don't recommend anybody buy under even
training this one because this one's very risky if you're not in and out of
it very quickly or like in a day or so you can lose a lot very quickly just
like the Nasdaq last week went down by six percent if you hold the stock and it
goes down by six percent you just lost 18 percent of your portfolio so what I
did is after last week's fall I had bought in on Friday because I fell down
by eight percent I bought in around like 137 I believe I think is what it bounced
it bounced to right around 137 so I bought in at that point and then it
opened up very high on Monday I don't believe I sold on Monday I held it
because there was much more room for it to grow but Tuesday that fell by you
know over nine percent so I watched this thing fall fall fall fall fall boom hit
the bottom and on Tuesday here I think this is Tuesday
I made a purchase purchase share right there on 327 which is Tuesday so I
bought it at 1:40 39 so 140 so I bought it right here at this end point I bought
it right at the end of day I don't know if it has the timestamp on here no it
doesn't have the timestamp on that picture but I bought it at the end of
day of where I thought it might be down I didn't put you know I didn't buy a
whole lot of it because this thing's very risky so I bought $5,000 of it I
bought 35 shares at 1:40 39 and a day and I you know I'm still playing with my
money I'm withdrawing money here and there I withdrew some money out of my
cash managed account or my account because I'm funneling money between
different things right now making offers and you know sorts of little stuff and
then I the stock tank you and more on Wednesday so was I really sad that the
stock tanked again on Tuesday you know Wednesday I mean Wednesday I fell an
additional three point four or five percent so this locks very very rough
sometimes if you're there buying and holding the stock for more than a day
it's it's very risky so it ain't more on Wednesday by three point four or five so
this one you know you see here it's fell below one
thirty-five so what I did here is I picked the stock up at 134 that was
almost at the bottom like I use our limit buys so I bought it at 134 and
then I had like an average buying price of around 137 138 from the prior week
and then this week so my average buying cost was around 138 and I rode this
thing up until 147 65 and I set my limit sell for 200 shares at 147 65 and this
thing triggered here tqq you can see here for the week on Friday actually
this is fine you can see here on Friday it peaked at 147 65 it hit it during the
day right around this time frame here at 310 it's when it peaked it sold off my
200 shares at 147 65 right after that it fell in additional you know 3.5% so I
bought this you know 137 ish wrote it up until 1 1
so whatever I had like a 7 percent gain on this thing overall and then sold off
on it so that was a great buy very quick short-term and sell it off very quick
short term so I was able to make a few thousand back on that deal because I had
several thousand dollars invested and that you can see that these little I'd
buy it five thousand dollars at a time or six out you know six thousand I was
buying in increments of five thousand right around there and you can see IME
back around thirty thousand so I ended up making around five thousand dollars
on that sale so I'm trying trying to quickly collect cash but this is very
risky I don't recommend anybody actually doing this so I just want to put that
out there there's there's some risky investors out there that buy and sell
that are day traders I don't consider myself a day trader because I have
and held for such a long time but in this current transition that I'm kind of
going through I think these are great times to be swing training if that is
the mentality in your and you're confident in yourself you can pull it
off but this kind of you know I was still I still have room to fall if I
wanted to and you can see here I do currently hold eight shares of it it's
this is actually wrong these are question marks right now I'm
not sure what the unit cost is on it but I'm actually positive on it I think this
is just what I pasted in there what's currently at 1:43 92 yeah okay so what I
had done here is actually pasted in what a it's currently worth right now an
accident but I only have eight shares of it right now
if it tanks next week I'm gonna be buying this up again in the 130 range
reading it up into the 140 range and then selling it off and you know this
could tank very fast because right now we're trending right along the 200-day
moving average because if we fall below that 200-day moving average that could
cause a massive sell-off across all yet yeah I don't like this nothing in mine I
don't like to spread negativity because I you know everybody it should be
investing for the long term and if you want to invest it for the long term
there's nothing really to worry about you can take a look at my m1 Finance I'm
not gonna pull money out of my IRA I'm not gonna pull money out of my Roth IRA
my wife's Roth IRA those are completely fine but this money that I have right
now that I'm trying to use for real estate that's it's it's sort of play
money at this time because I have other reserves and I think it's just fun to
kind of make these sort of deals and have them turn out positive but there's
good and there's gonna be that time where it's going to turn sideways and
I'm gonna lose several thousand so just be aware it's not all fun and games so
that's basically it for this video I believe that is aww so of course I do

offering on a house I made an offer on a house for $60,000 to cash but my offer
was beat by $5,000 that's a pending so now I lost that offer and I don't know
if I talked to a lot of investors tonight about that city and there's
people that are buying and flipping in that city and you know it's actually
really interesting so I'm gonna be looking into that more I have two other
offers that are currently in the mix and hopefully something sticks I'd you know
your first couple houses that you're going to be buying if you're a long-term
real estate investor they're like pancakes you're gonna have a couple
burned ones but as long as you did the numbers and the cash flow you know two
three hundred dollars that is perfectly fine if they just cash flow because once
you have a portfolio of 10 20 30 houses where some are cash flowing some are
building capital appreciation and you know you're gonna have a variety of
houses in your portfolio you may need to dump one or two houses you'll do a 1031
exchange we won't have to pay capital gains on the the sale of it if you did
make anything and then you can buy a house that does cash flow so that's all
you know I fret so many bucks I'm brilliant
