today I'm going to be sharing with you my brand new vlogging camera and all the
new travel gear that I'm bringing with me on the road
hey guys what's up welcome to my channel if you've been here before
welcome back! This week I've got something a little different for you
guys I recently posted a blog on my website explaining how I needed to find
more balance in my life I've been spending a lot of time in front of my
computer working on my online business creating these training programs workout
videos which I absolutely love love love doing but there was just something
missing. Long story short I'm gonna spend the rest of the year doing what I
love and yes that includes continuing to make workout videos don't worry but I'm
taking it on the road I'm gonna be doing a little bit more traveling I'm gonna be
finding ways to stay active and eat healthy from absolutely anywhere and at
the same time I'm gonna be getting out of my comfort zone trying new things and
I want to share the entire experience with you guys. So with that I realized
that I'm gonna be needing some new gear so that I can capture all these fun
things that I'm gonna be doing there's something about purchasing all of this
gear that made these new goals of mine very very real
it's like I bought the ticket I got the stuff I'm committed this is happening
all right so let's check out some of the stuff that I'm gonna be taking on the
road with me so let's talk cameras first this here is the Canon 5d Mark 3 it is a
beast of a camera this is the camera that I've been using to shoot a lot of
my workout videos and photos in the past and I picked it up the other day and I
put it on a gorilla pod which I'll show you in a minute
and I was trying to vlog with it and I realized that's really heavy well I work
out I can hold this all day not realistic it's a big camera it's great
great camera I'm going to keep it for some more cinematic shots and it's a
really really good camera in low-light so it's got a lot of really advanced
features it's amazing but I needed to downsize and I needed to get something
that was more travel friendly so I decided to go with this guy
which is actually the camera that I'm using to film this video right now this is the
Canon EOS Rebel SL2 the thing that I loved about this is it's so light
I picked it up and I was like yeah this is gonna work it's honestly lighter this
is one of the Canon lenses that I was using on the 5d Mark 3 and my new SL2
weighs less than just this lens so much more portable much more compact super
easy to vlog with because it's got a flip-out screen which is great the Mark
3 does not have that so it's always hard to kind of tell if I'm in frame tell if
I'm focused so the SL2 was a no-brainer I picked up
a few accessories to go with that to complete my little vlogging setup the
first thing that I highly recommend if you're traveling if you're vlogging this
is the gorilla pod yeah this thing's awesome it basically acts as a tripod
it's all bendy so you can make all kinds of weird shapes with it you can
basically attach your camera to I don't know a tree a lamppost depends on how heavy your
camera is but this thing is great for traveling it's a lot lighter and smaller
than a tripod and it's a lot more durable so you can bang it around don't
have to worry about breaking it which is great so I did mention the mark 3 is
really good in a low light the SL2 not as much so I did pick up a LED video
light that just hooks onto the top of my camera I'm using it right now and it's
got a shoe mount so it goes right on top of the camera and you can attach the
microphone on top of it it's just going to add a little bit of light which is
great at night time I'm planning on doing some shooting at night
and it just allows the image to be brightened up that's what light does
right brightens things up. I don't need to explain that now as far as sound goes I
picked up one of the rode videomicros which is attached to the top of my
camera right now this is a cute little microphone that's gonna really help block
out background noise and wind that's one of my pet peeves is when videos or blogs
have really bad sound and can't totally hear everything so this is gonna help
with that give me a nice clear audio I'm also wearing this lapel mic or lav
mic that is the rode smartlav it's another great option it plugs into your
phone so if you're taking video with your iPhone it's a great way to have
on-the-go clear audio so when I'm sitting in my really loud condo building
in downtown Vancouver and there's sirens and construction and random people
screaming it's great for that cuts that right out. alright lenses as far as lenses
go again these things are so light so I've got a couple different lenses here
18 to 55 it's just a great everyday lens for vlogging I'm using my 10 to 18
millimeter it just gives you a nice wider angle it's a great vlogging lens
and then I've also got the fix lens 50 millimeter it's just gonna give me a
nice depth of field a little better for those close-up shots or taking
photos really nice. okay next up is the GoPro Hero 6 black I have wanted a GoPro
for so long I don't know why I just think they're so cute
this little beast is awesome for those action shots it's waterproof so you
don't have to worry about getting it wet which is great and one feature I love on
this is that it shoots some pretty awesome slo-mo video 240 frames per
second at 1080p it's gonna look amazing and there
are so many little accessories that you can buy for this
it's crazy I've only purchased a few for now because honestly I could spend so
much money on GoPro accessories so I'll link the accessories that I decided to
go with for this trip below okay next up probably my favorite purchase yet - This guy
his name is Hank he's a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum drone and he's just the best I
always love watching travel videos or adventure videos and you get that nice
beautiful overhead shot really shows where you are shows the scenery so this
guy was definitely on the list of things to get. I decided to go with the
Platinum version just because it's a little quieter in the air and it also
has an improved battery life which you know is awesome because I'm a beginner
and it takes me a little while to get the shot that I want to get so extra
battery life is always a good thing the other main reason for getting this
model is the size I mean look how tiny it is this guy easily fits into my
backpack it's easy to carry on to the plane it's gonna be really fun to get
this guy up in the air and show you guys where I'm going there are a couple other
things that I bought for the these ND filters are a great thing to get as an
accessory for this guy I've got one on there right now with drones you have to
obviously fly them in good weather you don't want to be flying them in the
rain or when it's super cloudy so most of the time you're gonna be flying when
it's sunny out so these filters are just really great for filtering out that
harsh light and glare from the Sun so got a few of those different ranges
we'll see how they do and of course that iPhone 10
this was a much needed upgrade for me I was still running my iPhone 6 the camera
quality on this bad boy compared to the six is incredible
I love this thing the sound on it is also awesome portrait mode for photos
it's just a great phone it's a really going to come in handy for vlogging on
the go and then those moments when I don't have my camera on me I also made
sure to get tons of storage on this guy so I got the 256 or is it 265 so I never
run out of space I'll be really impressed if I do all right guys that
covers it that's all the new stuff that I've got that I'm bringing on the road
with me first up is Japan I'm leaving in just a couple days so I gotta pack all
this stuff up and I gotta learn how to use it
