GRAVEL [PC, 2018] Review | It's a Pixel THING - Ep. 141 - Duration: 10:19.

Hey, guys!

Welcome back!

Time for a "not so retro" review!

And, this time around, it's all about Gravel!

And, it's such an accessible game that even a 7-year old can master!

Let's take a look!

Some say that Gravel pays an homage to Sega Rally, but I honestly think that

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 was its main inspiration.

Even this engine roar is practically identical!

Gravel was announced a year ago, in the beginning of 2017, and caught everyone off guard with

an initial release date aiming to the end of August of that same year.

Later was pushed forward for an early 2018 release.

So, here's my copy!

Arrived one day after its official release and immediately ventured myself

into the career mode.

As you can see, I opted for the PC game, 'cause I believe that it's the definitive version

of Gravel, showing all its graphical power and playability.

My PC specs are as follows:

Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3 motherboard:

check!

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor:

check!

G.Skill 16 GB of DDR 4 RAM:

check!

NVidia Strix GTX960 with 4 GB of RAM:

check!

Xbox 360 controller:

check!

Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheel and pedals:

check!

So, let's do this!!

Being Gravel an arcade racer, let's try it with the 360 controller.

The first thing I noticed was the really low force feedback transmitted to the controller,

and I couldn't find a setting in the game's menu that could increase it.

The second thing was the annoying driving aids that prevented me from winning races!

I want to slide around corners and be able to break at the last minute, so I simply had

to turn all that stuff off!

And I will get more points by doing that!

Yeah!

That's what I'm talking about!

Speeeeeeed!!!!!!

When I saw footage of those stadium events with these mighty trophy trucks I thought

that I would hate it and completely avoid these races, but, with all the aforementioned

driving aids completely turned off, it's an freakin' awesome ride!

I love how the truck feels and plays in these slippery conditions!

I have to always counter-steer and be gentle with the throttle to keep these over the top

huge horse power machines steady and glued to the track to be able to simply move forward!

And, with an 800-horse power beast, is way more difficult

than with a 580-horse power truck!

Oh, yeah!

And I just think that it's an awesome attention to detail by Milestone!

Well done, guys!

This really brings a smile to my face!

Trying to control these beasts is really fun!

By the way, you might remember this LA stadium from DiRT 2.

Ring a bell?

Also, if you played DiRT 2 'til there wasn't much more to do left, you'll recall that

going through water was this overwhelming and mind-blowing experience mainly when driving

inside the car.

In Gravel it's this…

common, guys!

Couldn't you do better?

DiRT 2 was released almost 10 years ago!

So, I was kind of disappointed with the water effects in Gravel, but that wasn't all!

Where the hell is all the dust and particles being kicked from the rear end of all the

other drivers in front of us?

Better saying, where's all the gravel?...

And I would love to see stuff flying while crashing, just like in Wreckfest!

Is that too much to ask?

I truly hope that Milestone can address these issues in the future.

In the meanwhile, and after I used the Ford Focus that I won after beating one of the

main rivals, the game got stuck in its own logo!

Gladly, a couple of days later, Milestone released an update to correct this

highly annoying bug!

There's, obviously, other minor graphical glitches that doesn't affect gameplay whatsoever,

but even so I would love to also see those sorted out.

Besides all that, Gravel plays extremely well with a 360 controller and can really be a

friendly game to all those that just wants to drive around safe and not having to deal

with loss of grip and control, just like in the good old days of arcade racers.

So, it's a truly welcomed title in a time when everyone was starting to get a bit tired

of extreme driving simulators.

Nowadays, and speaking for myself, I'm a bit exhausted of concrete and asphalt

kind of racers.

It bothers the hell out of me!

And I quickly forget about all of them and always return to these "offroadish" and

"adventurish" kind of feeling in idyllic and remote places.

That's why Pacific Rift is my favorite from the Motorstorm franchise!

And, what about Gravel with a proper wheel and pedals?

Does it make any difference?

Yes it does, if you turn off all driving aids, just like me!

Even so, playing with a 360 controller is quite enough, even with all aids turned off.

Milestone really created something special with Gravel and if you love arcade racing

games, you can't go wrong with this one!

As you know, I love racing from point A to point B, and, as you can imagine,

the Cross Country stuff is an absolute thrill!

For instance, driving in Namibia is so freakin' awesome!

And, have you tried the Speed cross track in this mining spot in the Australian Outback?

Wow!

What a ride!

And, besides these two disciplines, there's also the aforementioned Stadium events,

Wild Rush races and a sort of gate crasher, similar to what we could also experience

in DiRT 2 and 3.

You're probably asking yourselves why I didn't grab the PS4 version.

You know that, besides being cheaper, the PC version can really achieve a higher graphical

richness with also a more stable number of frames per second without noticeable losses

that could ruin a race.

You just need to have the specs for it.

Also, and 'cause I wanted to try Gravel with a steering wheel, the PC was my first

choice for this game, mainly due to compatibility issues.

I know that my Logitech Driving Force GT is fully compatible with the PS3, but I don't

quite know if it works with the PS4.

Have to try it someday with, for instance, WRC 7.

The rewind function, also present in Milestone's previous rally racer, also returned, in where

we can even control the car, while still in slow motion, allowing us to correct its trajectory,

and some rally-cross tracks really reminds me of Rally Evo.

Besides that, and when driving through water,

all the dust and mud will quickly be washed out!

Look at it!

All shiny and stuff!

I was hoping that Gravel would offer a realistic track deformation.

I was sad to realize that it was completely left aside.

Again, these minor things won't ruin all the fun that Gravel has to offer, 'cause

it was designed from the ground up to be simply that:

fun!

And you can't go wrong with it!

I left the online experience for last, 'cause, since Gravel was released, I've been trying

to play it online.

Occasionally I was able to find a server with someone to play with and it's just as fun

as playing offline, so it seems that practically no one is playing the multiplayer mode of

Gravel.

To conclude, if you're tired of serious racing games that will penalize you for everything

and for nothing, give Gravel a spin and it will certainly bring a lot of smiles

to your faces!

So, guys!

Hope you've enjoyed my review on Gravel, this little game that brought back the fun

from the arcade racers of the past!

And if you want to see more racing related content, feel free to browse the channel and

you'll find a ton more videos with a ton other games from a genre that I absolutely

love playing!

In the meanwhile, click that bell icon so that you're notified when all my future

content becomes available.

I also cover a lot older stuff from the 80s and 90s, so, don't be a stranger and prepare

for a huge dose of nostalgia!

Also, don't forget to like, to share and to subscribe to It's a Pixel THING!

Thank you very much for watching, and…

I'll see you all in the next episode!

2 MONTHS AWAY FROM YOUTUBE : Why ? (EN Sub) - Duration: 10:31.

Oooowl (I use that to say hello !)

I packed my first crate 2 monts ago

And there we are today with what seems to be a very under control moving.

That's not the case.

I don't know if it's the thirties crisis but the year 2017 has been particularly painful for me.

It was not so easy to figure out, especially around the end but it was because I had already taken the decision to change everything in 2018 !

Indeed, I took some quiet radical decisions

Which I probably will not regret but that are not necessary easy to take.

First big decision, I cut my hair.

And second big decision, I left Brussels and my appartment because third big decision

I have moved

to Australia !

Yeah I know, it's not very obvious like that.

Omg ! An Australian Fridge !

Look ! An Australian door !

An Australian magnet

The place seems quiet but walls are as thin as paper.

Therefore I'll find another place to tell you more about my big changes in 2018.

In the next sequence, filmed 3 weeks later during 20 minutes, the microphone was not properly plugged. I let you see and hear how bad the sound was but I shot the whole sequence again 3 or 4 weeks later.

We totally agree that the sound was completely awful !

Before to go I was wondering what was the exact difference between living abroad and travelling for a long time.

How long should one stays at the same place to get the right to say « I'm living here » (without talking about administrative points).

Well my cutie patooties, I think that I found a part of the answer (that's pretty obvious actually) :

The most important aspects when one travels are the discovery and the scenery. People are travelling to live a kind of break away from their daily lives.

Some explore a lot and some other let the epicurean monster who's living inside them take the control for a couple of weeks.

And more besides grant themselves (omg this sentence)

And more besides grant themselves…

And more besides grant themselves the luxury to do absolutely nothing.

When you live abroad, your priorities are else.

It's not about live something different and then go back home anymore.

It's about bringing out everything to make your new place feel like home.

And it's that, precisely, that prevented me to put new videos online these last weeks..

These 7 or 8 last weeks…. Sorry.

She abandoned her channel for 2 months and she found the perfect excuse for that.

Yes.

In reality, I was a way too busy settling in and developing new habits to build my new life here.

Even though I'm not going to stay here for 6 years (actually we don't know yet), I live here.

Please note that I'm currently in Kuala Lumpur, but talking about Sydney. I think that you got that point so let's assume that you're clever enough and go on.

In fact, imagine that it looks me almost 2 weeks to understand and even believe that Sydney does really exist.

For me it was a city from books, movies and stories. At the beginning I had the feeling that I was on another planet where all humans were deported after a huge apocalypse!

People were driving on the left, ate poached eggs for breakfast, it was sunny all the time, Short, only things that I was not used to !

What was the keystone of the construction of my new life here really was meeting new friends.

And even if many of them left already, I'm really going to continue along this path because relationships are what anchors the most.

I just need to buy a gym membership, and everything will be right.

Or not.

In a bit more than ten days, I'll be back in Sydney and I swear that I can't wait.

I'm actually thinking about it every day !

Some people told me about the different adaptation stages when it comes to live abroad

But I'm really lost ! I have the feeling that I'm living 10 distinct steps at the same time.

Like I already lived my honeymoon, I already found some weaknesses in the city, but I still love Sydney anyway.

Of course some points are running wrong like the fact that it's so difficult to find pralines for example.

To summarize why I didn't post any videos here for more than 2 months :

With my English lessons, my social life and my practical life, I merely have seen a kangaroo so let's not talk about koalas.

I'm even not that certain that they really exist !

But with all of this you still don't know why I left !

Why ?

This year I decided that I didn't fuck*** care about what most of the people do.

That I didn't fuck*** care about what is more safe to do.

That I didn't funk*** care about what I should do.

And above all that I didn't fuck*** care about what it is possible to do.

Because if possible exists then impossible exists as well and I don't agree with that.

Do I look to old to think like a child ???

Sorryyyy.

So I decided that I was going to make a step backward (a 17 000km step)

To pull out from my polluted by conformist ideas mind what I really want to do of my life (Or at least for the 3 next years)

I'm going to make you a confession again but 2017 was really not a good year for me.

Even if I started new great projects,

even if I reached goals like writing my first book for instance,

I feel like it was one year too many in a too long cycle.

Here in Sydney I'm then trying to improve my English level.

And it will probable interest you but I'd like to use this opportunity to « plant a little seed » into the photography and why not advertising world in Sydney.

It's not going to be easy, I'll need courage.

If you have some for me, give it to me through comment section because L will really need it.

And if I'm finally able to drive a fuck*** youtube routine inside my under construction life here, I'll show you !

I think you'll enjoy it.

By the way little boudinous, It's crazy but we're more than 2000 here so keep being so enthusiastic, It pleases me so much !

Feel always free to share a video even if it's in a private conversation, etc

And if you have some little or big questions to ask, ask them because I'm going to set up a FAQ video soon.

I leave you with some images shot here and there in Sydney

And then I'll explain why I cut my hair in a more precise way if you're interested

n the meantime, leave a thumb up and a comment, subscribe, share, poo on each other, Iove ya, bye bye boudinous

If you're still there, I have a little message for you

When one has hair as long as I had

It is difficult actually to not think about donate them.

Even if you weigh the pros and cons.

Even seeing the pros win, it was not easy

But the reason that made me take the step out was the perspective to give them

And to participate to the wellness of woman who would have previously lost her hair due to a chemo

And who would have to wear a wig, made partly with my hair thus.

Yeah because a lot of hair are needed to make a wig actually.

It's a very simple process : You just have to order your envelope on Think Pink Coupe d'Eclat

Then to put your hair inside and to send them.

Merely.

Hair have to be clean, to be minimum 25 centimeters long and without any cosmetic product on them.

Think Pink is what works in Belgium but I'll put links for Switzerland, France, Canada, UK, US and Australia into the description section.

I encourage boys and girls that are thinking about cutting and donating their hair to do it

Because it's important, because It's a noble cause, because it's a positive cause

That we should all give because overall in life to give is the best thing to do.

It's true that the hair I cut could have brung me a lot of money but… honestly…

FAST FUN FACTS 2 - Duration: 3:29.

Hey there guys, I'm Jesse Crowe, The Travelling Scientist

and it's time for another round of quick facts.

If you didn't catch the last one, basically people send me science questions through my website

and I do some research and send them a response

but today I'm gonna be sharing some of the best questions with YOU!

Okay today we'll start with a question from Cindi, and she wanted to know…

"What's the deal with thunderstorm asthma"?

So basically, when a massive windy storm picks up a bunch of allergens like pollen or spores

and carries it to a populous place like a city, people breathe those allergens into their lungs

and it causes lots of damage and leads to those asthmatic symptoms which can be deadly…

I wrote all about it in my blog, check it out!

So the next question is from Sean who asks a simple question...

"what is dark matter"?

Thanks a lot Sean, real easy question.

Well dark matter is a high-mass substance that holds our universe together...

well probably, we can't actually see it because it doesn't interact with light so we don't really know it's there...

but it's GOT to be... but we're not sure...

Yeah it's pretty weird stuff, anyway moving on to the next question

The next one is from Sheryl and she wants to know...

"Why do we even have an appendix"?

Well, if you're one of those people that thinks the appendix is a vestigial organ that serves no purpose...

WRONG, THAT'S WRONG!!!

The appendix acts as a reservoir of beneficial gut bacteria

that boosts our immune system and helps keep our gut healthy...

sorry to all my appendicitis buddies out there, that sucks!

The next question comes from... A.Dingle and he want's to know...

"Is mushroom vegan or meat"? Really, that's the question? Okay…

Mushroom is not meat...mushroom is vegan...

It's not meat. So there you go Mr.Dingle, you enjoy that vegan mushroom.

Anyway, moving on, the next question is from Miku

and she wants to know how fireworks work work work work work...

I hate that song... So fireworks contain gunpowder

Which is made up of sulphur, charcoal and potassium nitrate.

Light that up and it sends the fireworks up into the sky, where another compartment of gunpowder

is surrounded by little metal filings, and different types of metal glow different colors when they burn.

So when the gunpowder goes off, the colourful metal filings fly into the sky

and make awesome patterns. FUN right!?

The next question is from Kate and she wants to know "how traffic lights work"?

so there's heaps of different types of traffic lights, but the main ones have detector just under the ground

where your vehicle pulls up. The metal from your car will interact with a magnetic field in the detector,

causing a change in the current which tells the detector that there is a car there

and that it should turn the light green... and you can go!

And that's all for today guys, I hope you enjoyed these quick facts.

If you've got a science question for me, send it to my website or even chuck it in the comments section down below

and I will try to answer it in the next video

Finally, subscribe for more Travelling Science every week

and I'll see you guys next time, cheers!

Dingle, is...is that it? Dingle...Dinglay, maybe it's French?

Dinglay? Dingle…?

Sorry my appendicitis buddies, you don't have an appendix anymore...

YOU DEAD!

If you think the appendix is a vestigial organ you can get the hell out of here!

That's right, Go-on GIT!

Get outta here!

BEEV #11 - Vegane Fakten über die Schweiz (Swiss Vacts) - Duration: 7:26.

Switzerland has one of the strictest animal protection acts worldwide.

It may sound weird, but this is a gift and a curse at the same time.

A gift since animals in Switzerland may suffer less than the animals in other parts of the world.

But also a curse since this keeps many people from going one step further and decide for a vegan lifestyle.

Many assume that animals are treated well in Switzerland,

and that it is ethically acceptable to kill and eat them.

This is just one out of many anti-vegan arguments that vegan activists in Switzerland hear a lot.

In the following video I want to debunk the most common of these arguments.

Animals are treated well in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, animals live under degrading circumstances too.

The organization Tier-im-Fokus received more than 6 hours of video material

and 1'200 pictures from swiss pig farming.

The footage published under the name "Schweine-Report" shows

that more than half a million pigs are crammed into confined spaces without bedding,

never see the daylight and live a dreary life.

Tier-im-Fokus also reports on the life of chickens in Switzerland.

3 out of 4 chickens live under circumstances which can without doubt be classified as factory farming:

Up to 18'000 chickens can be kept in one hall, fifteen of them are allowed on one square meter,

animals die every day and are often left on the ground for more than a day.

And since their egg production usually declines after one year, the laying hens get killed

instead of reaching their natural age of up to 20 years.

According to the law only 3 square meters of space are required for cattle.

For most of these animals this is just enough to lay down.

Only half of them is allowed to get outside.

Calves are dehorned within two or three weeks after birth with a burning hot rod.

Despite being anesthetized this means a lot of pain for the animals.

65% of the milk cows live tethered to their crib.

Only 90 days per year they can get outside – only one hour per day is mandatory.

After 4 or 5 years the milk production declines and keeping them is not profitable enough anymore.

Instead of living 25 up to 30 years they will be slaughtered way earlier.

Even in Switzerland, male calves are slaughtered since they cannot produce milk:

That's 250'000 calves per year.

Even in Switzerland, male chicks are blended since they cannot produce eggs:

Between 500'000 and 2 million chicks per year.

In 2016, 55 million animals were killed in Switzerland.

That's two animals per second. This has nothing to do with good treatment.

Our cows are fed with grass. That's sustainable.

The idea behind this argument: By feeding cows with grass, food for humans

can be produced on land on which that could not be done any other way.

But for two reasons this is no argument against a vegan lifestyle:

Firstly, cows aren't exclusively fed with grass.

20% of the feed for cows is concentrated feed made up from grains, corn, and soy.

And if you think that vegans are responsible for rainforest deforestation with their soy consumption:

Depending on which source you believe,

between 75% and 98% of the global soy production is used to feed lifestock.

And the soy used for human consumption in Switzerland

mostly comes from France, Italy, Austria, or Switzerland itself.

Secondly this argument would only be relevant

if people exclusively or mainly ate meat from grazing cows.

But only a fifth of meat consumed in Switzerland is beef.

The biggest part is pork with 44%, poultry is at about 25%.

Switzerland is a grass land. Livestock farming is necessary and sustainable.

Pigs and chickens, the majority of animals eaten in Switzerland, cannot be fed on grass.

Therefore, their food needs to be produced on fields.

The problem: In order to produce one animal-based calorie

a larger number of plant-based calories is needed.

To put this in numbers: a calorie of pork

needs at least three plant-based calories,

a calorie of chicken or egg needs four.

And a calorie of beef consumes ten plant-based calories!

According to an ETH-study, Sentience Politics found out:

If livestock farming in Switzerland exclusively would be done with lands

that cannot be farmed otherwise, every swiss inhabitant could only eat 14 kg of meat per year.

Instead of the average consumption of almost 51 kg.

Those 14 kg would consist only of beef and pork.

There would be close to no chicken, only 5 eggs per person and a third of dairy products less.

Yes, Switzerland is a grass land. And because of that people should put meat off their plate!

Swiss animal products are local.

About a fourth of meat consumed in Switzerland is imported. Half of the eggs are imported too.

Those products are made under exactly those circumstances

that allegedly "don't take place in Switzerland".

Also, did I mention that more than 1.2 Million tons of feed is imported to Switzerland every year?

In 2015, more than 850'000 tons were concentrated feed [soy, wheat, etc.].

Organic animal products are okay.

Most of the circumstances described previously also hold for organic farming:

In the production of organic eggs baby chicks are ground up too.

Organic cows are dehorned too.

And organic raised animals die for meat consumption too.

Also, organic products still only hold a small market share:

In 2016 only 25% of the consumed eggs were organic,

only 13% of dairy products, and only 5% of meat!

And organically raised animals still consume a big number of

plant-based calories to produce an animal-based one.

Livestock farming is part of swiss culture. It is important for jobs and tourism.

Cultures are constantly changing, also in Switzerland.

Only because something is done for traditional or cultural reasons does not mean it is all right.

Especially if a sentient being needs to suffer and die for it!

Culture and tradition are no excuse for violence and oppression,

just as the preservation of jobs is not.

If we would negate everything that threatens jobs we would have to dispense with much progress.

Not only progress in society, but technological progress too!

And regarding tourism: Switzerland is such a beautiful country which offers so much.

Why would you reduce this to grazing cows?

Many arguments against a vegan diet are based on the perception

of an ideal world, including ideal animal farming.

But the circumstances of animal farming in Switzerland are far from ideal,

which may be because there is no "ideal" way to exploit and kill sentient beings.

Surely one can try to consume animal products which allegedly cause the least harm,

but it would be even better to simply leave out animal products and go vegan.

It has never been easier than today!
