DeepMind's AI Learns Complex Behaviors From Scratch | Two Minute Papers #239 - Duration: 3:14.

Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.

Reinforcement learning is a learning algorithm that chooses a set of actions in an environment

to maximize a score.

This class of techniques enables us to train an AI to master a large variety of video games

and has many more cool applications.

Reinforcement learning typically works well when the rewards are dense.

What does this mean exactly?

This means that if we play a game, and after making a mistake, we immediately die, it is

easy to identify which action of ours was the mistake.

However, if the rewards are sparse, we are likely playing something that is akin to a

long-term strategy planner game.

If we lost, it is possible that we were outmaneuvered in the final battle, but it is also possible

that we lost the game way earlier due to building the wrong kind of economy.

There are a million other possible reasons, because we get feedback on how well we have

done only once, and much much after we have chosen our actions.

Learning from sparse rewards is very challenging, even for humans.

And it gets even worse.

In this problem formulation, we don't have any teachers that guide the learning of the

algorithm, and no prior knowledge of the environment.

So this problem sounds almost impossible to solve.

So what did DeepMind's scientists come up with to at least have a chance at approaching

it?

And now, hold on to your papers, because this algorithm learns like a baby learns about

its environment.

This means that before we start solving problems, the algorithm would be unleashed into the

environment to experiment and master basic tasks.

In this case, our final goal would be to tidy up the table.

First, the algorithm learns to activate its haptic sensors, control the joints and fingers,

then, it learns to grab an object, and then to stack objects on top of each other.

And in the end, the robot will learn that tidying up is nothing else but a sequence

of these elementary actions that it had already mastered.

The algorithm also has an internal scheduler that decides which should be the next action

to master, while keeping in mind that the goal is to maximize progress on the main task,

which is, tidying up the table in this case.

And now, onto validation.

When we are talking about software projects, the question of real-life viability often

emerges.

So, the question is, how would this technique work in reality, and what else would be the

ultimate test than running it on a real robot arm!

Let's look here and marvel at the fact that it easily finds and moves the green block

to the appropriate spot.

Dead," a style that Epic presumably hoped would set them apart from the competition.

Where other games offered grim realism, Fortnite set out to be a fun, casual game to play with

your friends.

Now, survival was a genre that was hot back in 2011, but a few years into the game's

development, public opinion shifted as the survival game fad began to fade.

It began to look like Fortnite would launch to a market that had largely lost interest

in what it offered, but progress slowly continued as the developers iterated on its design.

The game's long development cycle became somewhat of a running joke, with the Developers

themselves joking at an E3 presentation that "sometimes [they] get so excited about [their]

ideas that [they] announce it three weeks after [they've] even had the idea."

Six years is a development period that would make even the developers of DayZ blush, but,

still, they assured the press that they had a plan.

And they most certainly did.

Fortnite's survival mode, launched as an early access title in July 2017 to lukewarm

reception with many complaints of repetitive gameplay and a boring progression system,

but Epic wasn't done yet.

They had one more trick up their sleeve.

Epic had seen the explosive popularity of battle royale games like PUBG and H1Z1 and

taken note.

Two months after Fortnite launched, Epic games both announced and released Fornite's stand-alone

battle royale mode.

For free.

To call this a power play would be an understatement.

The game drew in over a million players on its very first day.

The developer's move had payed off spectacularly.

The team at Epic had been ready and waiting to pounce on the battle royale trend.

Years spent in development meant that, while games like PUBG suffered from horrific optimization

issues that made the game nearly unplayable, Fortnite was ready to rock at launch.

And when PUBG developed a problem with rampant cheating, Fortnite faced very little of the

sort, leading many former PUBG players to make the switch.

To put it into perspective how ready Epic was to translate Fortnite into battle royale,

the game actually beat PUBG to console, despite the fact that battle grounds had a 7 month

head start.

The game's free to play status and simple art style meant that just about anybody, anywhere,

would have the means to play it.

Accessibility was the real key to Fortnite's popularity, and the decision to monetize the

game with skins instead of an initial price tag was critical.

Not only did it grow the game's audience very quickly, but it also made it possible

for many online content creators that didn't have the technical means to produce content

for PUBG to produce it for Fortnite instead, which helped spread the game through word

of mouth.

Epic also had no trouble keeping the game fresh, since Fortnite's development team

was originally set up to provide large amounts of content after release.

Epic was adamant that updates that could be considered DLC for most games would not be

uncommon for Fortnite.

This put the team in a perfect position to release content for Fortnite: Battle Royale

at a rate that games like PUBG couldn't even dream of.

This isn't necessarily to say that PUBG's devs are worse than Fortnite's, I really

enjoy both games, and both teams should be proud of their work.

It's just that Epic had six years to prepare, and a team with triple-A experience, and PUBG

did not.

This brings me to the final factor in Fortnite's success: its incredibly unique gameplay.

First, the game is notably faster paced than PUBG, encouraging a constant stream of action

and combat.

It also encourages the use of creative items like mobility grenades and placeable traps

to broaden the field of possible tactics.

Most importantly of all; though, the introduction of building mechanics to a battle royale setting

completely changes everything.

Intense fights don't just consist of two players staring down their scopes taking pot

shots at each other.

Fortnite is a spectacle.

Players construct surreal fortresses of metal, brick and wood to protect themselves and to

gain a vantage point in combat, all the while attempting to out-think and counter their

opponent's building.

Combat in Fortnite can look more like a battle of architecture than an aim-duel.

It's a process that not only raises the game's skill ceiling, but when done well,

it's amazing to watch.

Which is part of the reason why Fortnite has set the record for being the most viewed game

on twitch.

Not only is the minute-by-minute gameplay more interesting, but players with incredible

skill have the opportunity to really show it off.

If you tune into some of the more notable twitch streams, it's so impressive it seems

like they're playing an entirely different game.

Clearly I'm not the only one who's impressed either, because these streamers draw so much

viewership that they've even attracted the interest of mainstream celebrities like Drake,

which has only increased their popularity even more.

Riding this wave of notoriety, Fortnite's paid survival-mode, now called "Save the

World" has seen an influx of players that likely wouldn't have payed it any attention

in the first place, no doubt netting Epic even more cash.

So, in a roundabout way, the developers ended up releasing two games for the price of one.

And that brings us to the present.

Fortnite's revenue has eclipsed PUBG's for the very first time as of this month,

the game remains comfortably at the very top of twitch, and its growth shows no signs of

stopping.

In a way, it's become the modern Halo 3.

Everybody plays it, and you'll hardly find anyone who dislikes it.

It's pretty safe to say that, at least for now, Fortnite is the king.

infinity war but mainly talking about Captain Marvel

so last night they confirmed this is an ops is for the actual movie and they

confirmed that two people are coming back who have interest in me

respectively died already Agent Coulson who met his death in Avengers when Loki

stabbed him in the heart with the glow stick of destiny and also Rowan the

accuser but what's interesting about bringing these two characters back are

they are supposed to be dead but it's movie setting a 90s so it's pretty

realistic we already know that Nick Fury's gonna be in there so Agent

Coulson will be interacting with Nick Fury again but how Rowan the accuser who

wanted destroy earth is gonna be coming back to this MTU is gonna be pretty

interesting we haven't seen him since phase 1 so we're going to be seeing a

full-on kree-skrull war which sounds amazing and it could be a little hint at

that in Avengers 4 we actually are going to be seeing Secret Wars or Secret

Invasion we already know that Captain Marvel is going to be the strongest

character in the MCU at least from the hero site so the story will follow Carol

Danvers as she becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the universe when

Earth is caught up in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races set

in the 90s Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure on a previously unseen period

in the history of the MCU so that does sound pretty cool so

Earth's stuck in between and galactic war so it's interesting how no one's

ever BOTS up before the closest we've got to this is where Nick Fury who said

last time I trust someone I lost an eye so maybe we're gonna actually find out

what that massive epic reference was to but also if earth in a galactic war then

we're gonna have an issue with it not being seen so I'm expecting most of that

to happen in space as we know during a phase for James Gunn and Kevin Feige

said phase 4 is gonna be more about the cosmic side of stuff which is very

interesting so he did see the image of Nick Fury aka Samuel Jackson posted on

his Instagram when originally I thought he could be turning into a creature like

a secret agent where if this was the case Nick Fury as Nick Fury would

actually secretly be a Kree and not actually being Nick Fury but it could

just be to make him look younger because you're gonna have to

look like he's from the 90s so it's pretty interesting so the crease goal

while is the kree-skrull war is an iconic Avengers storyline and it's not

really public knowledge unless you read comics historic ArchiCAD in pages of The

Avengers 89 to 97 in the late 70s and was actually written by Roy Thomas the

comic is considered to be the highlight of this era where critics citing its a

real-world comparison to conflicts at the time I which is interesting a hunt

for Soviet spies the eight-episode storyline followed the Avengers as they

found themselves and the planet Earth stuck in the middle of a long-standing

intergalactic conflict between the Kree and scroll the story is kick off by the

arrival of Captain Marvel interestin II paid by we already know the original one

the Kree Marvel obviously we know Jude Law's come in where his alien present

sense the propriety to fear being extradited basically and hate the

Avengers for not cooperating with the recently formed and alien activities

Commission with the Scrolls around it's impossible not to think that secret

invasion of their biggest storyline that the storyline of 2007 the comic book

event a massive crossover that revealed the scrolls had secretly replaced

several superheroes with Scrolls of sleeper agents hence why some people

think that Nick Fury could actually be a scroll and there is like loads of images

made of like Captain America Bucky Tony Stark albeit secretly reading

scrolls now if this was the case that there were building up to secret wars

that would be pretty cool Dupree a one of the most powerful alien species

in the MCU who have conquered most of the unknown galaxies in the name of the

Kree Empire things in the MCU are gonna really change up after this movie comes

out my knowledge wasn't great so I had to do a bit of research for this but

there is a bit of tie into agents of shield because obviously the character

they're bringing about Agent Coulson it's adds to the on agents of shield

believe so there may be some cross over there not too sure don't watch the

program so I'm not gonna talk about think if I don't really know what's

going on so guys let me know in the comment box down below what do you think

is actually good and go on and do you think Captain Marvel is actually gonna

have a have a tie-in with Avengers 4 because it's gonna be a bit random that

she turns up when she's not been anywhere because as everyone thinks Honi

stark was the first superhero but from the way they're talking it's actually

gonna be Captain Marvel is going to be the first comic book hero to make it to

the big screen although her movie is actually gonna come 10 years after the

MTU started which is pretty strange but I guess with how successful wondering

was MCU Marvel are going to be pushing their female characters out there a lot

more we've seen in recent image we've seen an image of brie Larson playing

Captain Marvel and Jude Law Corps blues it's playing Captain Marvel who's gonna

have quite important role so it's gonna look quite interesting because we've got

some of the returning garden galaxy being Rowan the accuser and Agent

Coulson who was a big part of the earlier empty.you movies especially in

⌛ Minute Lenormand Unboxing & Flip through! ⌛ Another 5 minute deck by Robyn Tisch Hollister! - Duration: 11:12.

Hi everyone, it's Katey, and today I have an unboxing for you. We haven't done an

unboxing in a little while and there are always a bit of fun. This I'm very

excited about. It's a Lenormand deck - if you can believe

it! - which is not really something I spend a lot of time with, Lenormand. But the

creator of the Minute Deck, or the Minute tarot, which is one of my favourites,

Robyn, released, or released, a while ago I think, this is a reprint the Minute

Lenormand. And because I love the Minute Tarot so much, I kinda just couldn't help

myself when I saw this come up for pre-order! Now apparently this arrived

rather late because it got sent back to Robyn and she was a bit upset about that,

so she's apparently included a little something extra for me, and she sent it

back over and here it is!

Thank You, Robyn. And I'm not fussed about, you know, that wasn't your fault that it

didn't arrive, I'm just glad that it's here now!

She always wrap things very cutely. Oh wow, oh isn't this pretty?

Oh, it's lovely! I love that shine and the blue, oh that's gorgeous.

Thank You, Robyn! It's lovely. And this is the little deck.

Oh! It's velvet, ah oh you know, this kind of fake velvet stuff. I hate the feeling

of this stuff! Yeah, I probably won't be using this long term, but it's a pretty

colour. And it does match this colour of the... just a bit of information,

which is cool, this might be helpful to get me started, which is cool, little

white fold-out sheet. So here are the cards. And this is our title card, which

is so cute, I love this art style that she's got going on for these, you know,

five minute artwork decks. I just think that's so cool and I love, I love this, I

love this colour, this greeny-blue colour in the background. I just think

it's so pretty, and it features quite a bit in the Minute Tarot. And I love that we

have the hourglass here. I mean, it makes sense for a deck that was

made in five minutes for each card. And the fortune teller here, too. Very cool! Okay,

Oh! 'Have a deck because I love you! Edition three.' That's cute,

so I have a singed limited edition, very fancy. Now I know nothing about Lenormand

so I don't really have a whole lot to say about the cards or what they

represent or anything. Like I said, I just basically got this because I'm a fan of

Robyn and the artwork, and I thought if I was going to get a Lenormand I might

as well, you know, get it from an artist that I love, whose tarot deck that I love.

And if I do manage to get into Lenormand, I imagine that, you know, they'd make

quite a cute, cute little couple, wouldn't they? This is really pretty, I just love, I

love the style, I love the colours. Ooh, I would like to live there! I don't even

know the names of all of the- I'm assuming that's house, I don't know if

this is called the tree, but I really like it, it's so pretty.

Would these be the clouds, is that a thing?

I love these borders - she does all different borders in the Minute Tarot as

well. The snake, I love that it's in a tree. I just automatically think of, you

know, the story of Eve and potentially of Lilith. Is this a coffin?

very cool. Through my camera it almost looked like it was a inverted cross, but

it's kind of more just like an equal length cross. I love this! Sunflowers

are my favourite, so I'm a big fan of this. I really really like it, I love it. I

think this is my favourite. Is this the sythe or

something? I really don't know a whole lot about Lenormand, can you tell? These

are cute, owls with the moon, I like it. I

can't tell whether this is adorable or creepy. Kind of reminds me of- does anyone

remember that Madeline show? And how Madeline gets turned into a doll, well

people think she's a doll? I don't know why, that was just the first thing I

thought of when I saw that. This is cute, very cute fox. And a bear.

It's so pretty. Star or stars. I just love all these, like,

swirls and little details that she has, I think it kind of really brings these

cards to life, and they are really, they're well done for five minutes,

aren't they? Dog. Tower - something about that, that's quite pretty, too. Is it the

colours? I like this, very cute. I would like to hang out in that garden

for a little while.

Is this the mountain? I don't know, I've heard that. I have a bit of a weird thing

on this card. It's got like an extra outline here, I

don't know ,what that's about. It's not- it doesn't feel like it was a cut or

anything, it just is an extra line. But that doesn't particularly bother me, I'm

not too fussy about that sort of stuff, especially with indie decks. What does this

say? 'This way' and 'that way,' I think? It's a bit difficult to see, but that's what I

think it says. That's too cute! That's pretty too - I love these wings. And

now we have that down the bottom too and in the, in the the borders, the borders always tie into

the image quite well, like they are part of the image, they add to the image,

rather than just being you know where the image ends, they're part of the image.

I like that ,I like that a lot. And this is cute. These little flags - is that

just an American thing? Because I see them in movies all the time, I think they're

really cool, but I've never seen them in real life. Well he's cool, he looks like

some of the people in the the Minute Tarot, kind of you know like this, or the funny

hats and the hilarious facial hair. Isn't she pretty? Love her

dress, love these flowers, too. Is that a lily? Very pretty.

The sun. The moon, love the old man in the moon look. Key. Fish - Nemo! Clownfish. Anchor.

And fortune teller, a card reader, I really like this, I like it all. Love the

cat, love how we have the cards, I'm assuming they're Lenormand cards, they look

like the classic, older ones that you see with the image of the old, you

know, playing card on them. I like these moons, too. Very pretty.

So the cards- this is the Minute Tarot, they're a little bit smaller than the

Minute Tarot, or they're about the same width, just a tiny bit shorter, and I wasn't

sure about that, although the Minute Tarot is quite a small deck to begin with. But

this is the lovely Minute Lenormand, which I kind of, I mean, I still don't

know if I'm gonna get into Lenormand because it just it feels so out of my

box - and not in like a little challenge, it's just like is that a thing that's

even me? But this art is super cute and I really really enjoy it.

The Minute Tarot, as I said, is one of my favourite, one of my favourite Tarot decks

since I, since I got it - what how long ago? - a few months ago? I did notice

that I hear a lot of people talk about how, I don't remember what number they

were... I'm assuming this is the man and the woman card, and how some decks will

kind of provide either non-gendered options or you know multiple of each

card or whatever, it doesn't look like that's been done in this deck but as I

said I don't really understand Lenormand or anything, so it's just

something I noticed without really understanding you know the details of

all of that sort of stuff. But yeah, very pretty and I just thought I would film

this just to have a bit of a show in case- because I know a lot of you are really

interested in Lenormand but I assumed that I probably wouldn't be speaking

about this again for a while, if at all, you know depends if and when I get into

Lenormand, but I did want to show you because I know a lot of you are into

Lenormand and this is a really really cute one if you are

keen. And Robyn's stuff, although she seems to print reprint every now and

then, they certainly kind of unavailable for pretty long stretches, so if this is

something you can - I'm assuming it's still available, I'll leave a link to the

Etsy page where you can get it if you're interested, just because you know I'm a fan

of Robyn and I think this is adorable! So this has been the lovely Minute
