Hi! In this video I will tell you more about finishing
your weave with a crochet border where I used slip stitches
and I go into detail about how to do the corners.
I was weaving some pieces recently,
and I wanted to add a slip stitch border,
but I was contemplating about the corners quite often.
And I tried to picture it in this,
because, you see, my weaving frame, it has 24 nails,
but I made an example with 10 nails on each side,
and well, you see this happening.
So on this side, this is where you start to weave,
and then you go around the first 2 nails and so on,
and then you see you only get 9 loops around the nails,
here you also have 9,
here you only have 8 and here you also have 9.
And, well, I didn't work that way,
I always made a temporary loop around this nail,
and here also, and then you had more,
but it still bothered me
and then I started to figure it out,
yes, because this is what you would like to end up with,
that you have the same number of stitches on all sides.
And, okay, I really sat down and think about it thoroughly,
and I will explain to you how I did it in the end.
You see, I already showed in my previous video how to crochet borders around it,
and I will repeat that a bit now,
but I will show you a bit better here what I do exactly.
This is the weave, I started here on the left bottom side,
here's the slipknot around the corner nail,
and this is my first corner.
I have these instructions on my website as well quite elaborately,
so you can read it there as well,
there are a lot of pictures with it, so check that out also, and
well, this is what I do. I call this corner A, B, C and D.
So C is the corner here where you started weaving.
I will start in corner A,
so that's the corner where the thread goes around the first 2 nails,
- I will get some yarn -
and then I will start like I showed before.
I start with making a slipknot and put it on my crochet hook
and I will take this to the front,
- I saw in the previous video that it is quite clear on the video -
and then I start with making a slip stitch,
and I start with making 1 slip stitch in the corner.
Well, if you think it's handy, and I highly recommend it,
it's always handy to mark the first stitch, on each side,
it's handy later when you have to attach pieces together,
so you recognize which is your first stitch,
also when you're finished with the finishing,
and it's also handy for counting, to see if you didn't make a mistake.
You see, I now made 1 stitch,
you see, you have the thread of the slipknot here,
but this V-shape, here,
this is your first stitch.
So I will mark it with a piece of scrap yarn,
and now I will continue with the next stitch,
so I will put it on my lap again,
- let's see, where are my... there are my threads -
okay, you just made 1 stitch, and you continue till the next corner,
and as you know, with a slip stitch,
you pull it through right away. So around the third nail.
Okay. Well, I will continue doing this till the next corner,
and I will see you when I'm there.
Okay, I arrived at the next corner,
on my drawing that was corner B,
and I will first show you..
I made my last stitch around this last loop here,
so I should have made 23 stitches now,
and now you can easily count that. I will turn it around so you can see it.
Look, this is the first stitch that I marked,
and then you go count the V-shapes,
so this is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23,
so that's correct, and now you have to go around the corner.
And I will take my drawing with it.
As you can see here, at this nail, I want
to have a stitch on this side and I also want to have a stitch on this side,
so that means that I will make 2 in this corner.
Well, first of all you have to take care that you, ehm, ....see, you do not have a loop here,
because you have a loose thread here,
so you will make a temporary loop with it there,
and you can finish that neatly later,
and I will show you that later in the video
with the example that I made earlier,
so you just weave it back in a couple of stitches in the weave
and it doesn't matter how you do that,
because you will take it out anyway later,
so don't worry about going over or under the first thread,
so it's just temporary,
so, well, and now I will work around this corner.
So this is my last stitch of this side,
and I will turn my weaving frame
and then I will make another one in that same loop,
and then this will be my first stitch on this side.
Well, I find it the easiest to mark that each time,
so I just made a couple of extra scrap yarns,
so I will mark this first stitch of the second side also,
and then I will continue working to the next corner,
so I just worked around the first nail,
and around the second nail,
you see, there are 1, 2 stitches,
and then I will see you again at the next corner.
I have reached the next corner. On the drawing this is corner C here,
it's the place where I started weaving, and I will count again,
so I will take my crochet hook out.
I'm again just before the last nail, so I should have done 23 now,
- where is my needle, here is my needle -
so this is the first stitch I marked.
You see, now you see why it's so easy to mark that first stitch.
So this is stitch number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,
19, 20, 21, 22, 23, so that's correct,
and now we will do the same with this corner,
- put this aside -
look, as you can see, here's the first corner where we started
with putting the slipknot around that first corner nail,
so I will take that knot out,
and because it's a slipknot that's quite easy
and now you will also make a temporary loop on this corner,
so I will put it around the nail
and weave it back in into the weave
so you get a loop,
you can remove it later when finishing,
and well, then again we will in this corner,
like in the drawing here,
we will do the last stitch on this side
and the first stitch on the next side,
and I will also mark that with some yarn.
So this was the second last,
so this is number 24 on this side,
and then I go to the next,
which will be the first of the next side,
and mark it.
You see, what you can also do, if you prefer that,
you can make a color coding with the yarns you use,
or, I also have these stitch markers,
but I used up my last one yesterday,
and all my stitch markers are in my other pieces,
but you can also just use colored yarn.
Okay, so this around nail 1 again,
and around nail 2 again,
and then I will see you again at the next corner.
So I've come to just before the last corner,
I will count again,
I will turn this.
This is number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,
13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23,
so that's correct,
and then you see here, you see, there already is a corner loop here,
so I don't have to make it,
so, well, I will do 2 stitches in here again,
so this is the last of this side,
I will turn my weaving frame,
and this is the next of the new side,
and I will mark that also with a scrap yarn,
in this case a white and green thread,
and then I will continue to the corner where I started,
and there's a trick there,
because, as you can see here,
you see, here you have the case that you have 1 loop around 2 nails,
and how I will solve that, I will show you that in a while
when I've come back to this side.
I'm now back at the first corner where I started
and where the first loop is around the first 2 nails,
and I crocheted around 22 nails,
and I will show it to you, we will count again,
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22.
So I still have to make 2.
Now maybe you think:
'oh, well, just do 2 in this corner',
and, well, I have 2 reasons not to do that.
First of all: if you will do too much crocheting in these corners,
it's going to look ugly.
I will show you that in detail in the next video,
where I go into detail when doing a crochet border with single crochets,
and furthermore, I want to finish my border neatly
with a kind of invisible ending,
and with making that invisible ending you will create an extra stitch with a needle.
So, in other words, I will do in this last corner,
in this last loop, I will make 1 stitch,
so now I've made 23,
then I will cut my yarn and pull it through right away.
So do not make another stitch, no, pull through rigth away,
and, well, I showed you this also in my previous video,
but I will show it once more.
And I hope you can see it clearly.
This was the first stitch you made,
and I marked that with a blue thread,
so you see again, the marking is quite handy,
and what you do next, you have the V-shape here,
and then you go under these two legs of the V-shape with your needle,
and then you will go back again in the last stitch you made.
So here into the middle,
and now you've made 24 stitches in the end,
and I will show you:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,
13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and this is 24.
I have an example here that I made earlier.
You see here the sides look very nice,
and the corners are also very nice.
With using slip stitches it gets very close to the weave.
When you crochet squares,
usually you make extra stitches in the corners.
Well, with this that really isn't necessary.
First of all because you use slip stitches,
but also, and I will show you that now:
you see that when I put this here, you see, it always draws in a bit.
You see that the weave, the moment it's off the loom,
gets a bit smaller than what you wove initially
and I even made a border around it,
so that's the reason not to make extra stitches in the corners.
