This Is How Amazon's Alexa Records And Shares Private Conversations Without Your Permission

by Tyler Durden

As it turns out, the scandal over Amazon's Alexa voice-controlled personal assistant

recording and sharing private conversations both with hackers and with people on the users'

contact list is much more serious than the company had feared.

As Bloomberg reported, Amazon responded to a KIRO 7 news report about a couple who received

a call from a friend saying "unplug your Alexa devices right now.

Youre being hacked" after the company's device had shared a private conversation without

explicit permission.

Amazon offered a complex, meandering "explanation" for the series of strange coincidences that

triggered Alexa to record and share a couple's private conversation.

It started with Alexa being triggered when it heard a word that sounded like "Alexa"

- the command for the technology activate.

Here are the details:

Amazon explained the series of events that triggered the episode in an emailed statement.

The Echo woke after hearing a word in the couples conversation that sounded like

"Alexa" -- the usual trigger to begin recording.

The speaker later heard "send message" during the conversation, at which point the device

asked, "to whom?"

The pair continued talking in the background and the Echos system interpreted part of

the chat to identify a name in the couples contact list.

Alexa then asked aloud if they wanted to send a message to that contact and heard "right"

in more background conversation.

"As unlikely as this string of events is, we are evaluating options to make this case

even less likely," the company said.

The report invigorated privacy concerns as internet-connected devices like the Amazon

Echo become ubiquitous in homes.

Amazon in 2014 introduced the new line of devices, which can also stream music and order

goods from Amazon via voice command.

It has been busy introducing updated versions and adding features to sell more devices than

rivals like Alphabet Inc. and Apple Inc., which offer their own versions.

The "explanation" suggests that consumers should be extremely careful of what they say

around their personal assistants to the point where more users should consider deactivating

the device when it's not in use.

And there's plenty: more than 60 million U.S. consumers will use a smart speaker at least

once a month this year, with more than 40 million of them using Amazons devices,

according to eMarketer Inc.

Ryan Calo, an associate law professor at the University of Washington who studies the intersection

of law and technology, said this incident could cause lasting damage not only to the

Alexa, and thus Amazon, brand but to voice-controlled personal assistants in general (Alphabet and

Apple make their own model).

People have been willing to overlook glitches in the Echo, like it turning on accidentally

or without the wake word being uttered, said Ryan Calo, an associate law professor at the

University of Washington who researches how law applies to technology.

This incident is more alarming since a private conversation was recorded and sent to a third

party, he said.

"Think about how uncomfortable the millions of people who own these things now feel,"

Calo said.

"The real harm is the invasion into solitude people now experience in their homes."

Not to mention the damage it could do to technology more broadly, as paranoia surrounding privacy

continues to intensify, according to Daniel Kahn Gillmor, the in-house technologist at

the American Civil Liberties Union.

UFO Expert Calls for Probe After Declassified Russian Files Reveal Alien Encounters - Duration: 3:22.

UFO Expert Calls for Probe After Declassified Russian Files Reveal Alien Encounters

by Nirmal Narayanan

Declassified Russian files reveal reports of UFOs and submerged objects spotted above

and within the earths oceans, and Soviet K-222 submarines in Southern Pacific Ocean

being stalked by six unidentified submerged objects (USOs) travelling in formation under

the waters at a speed of more than 265 miles per hour.

The maximum speed attained by the Soviet K-222 is 51 miles per hour.

After a brief encounter with the submarine, the unidentified objects flew away.

Are advanced extraterrestrial beings living in the depths of the oceans?

Are governments aware of their existence?

I think about underwater bases and say: Why not?

Nothing should be discarded.

Skepticism is the easiest way: believe nothing, do nothing, said Vladimir Azhazha, a former

Russian naval officer and UFO researcher who is demanding a probe into the incident.

265 miles per hour is practically impossible for human technology to achieve.

According to conspiracy theorists, aliens are using advanced futuristic technologies

to achieve such top speeds, defying all laws of physics.

Vladimir Azhazha, a former Russian naval officer and UFO researcher has demanded investigation

after declassified Russian files revealed incidents of bizarre alien encounters.

The declassified Russian records report unidentified flying objects and submerged objects spotted

above and within the earths oceans.

The documents also talked about Soviet K-222 submarines being stalked by unidentified objects

under the sea, Daily Star reports.

Interestingly, the weird incidents listed in the classified documents are very similar

to mysterious incidents reported in the Bermuda Triangle.

As Azhazhas investigation suggestion went viral on the online, conspiracy theorists

came up with the version that advanced extraterrestrial beings are living in the depths of the oceans,

and that the governments are well aware of their existence.

The most interesting case noted by Azhazha in the declassified documents is an incident

involving a nuclear submarine in Southern Pacific ocean.

During the routine operation, the Soviet K-222 submarine spotted six unidentified submerged

objects (USO) travelling in formation under the waters, and surprisingly, they were travelling

at a speed more than 265 miles per hour.

Lucas La Arañita - Presentación de Peluche - Duration: 4:29.

¡Hello, there! So this is all a little bit weird...

It's the first time I am appearing on my won YouTube Channel

So, I just should probably introduce myself

My name is Josh, and I am the creator of Lucas The Spider.

So, I have been teasing a Plush now for a while, and the day is finally here. We are ready to start the pre-sale.

So, I give you a quick background

Back in December, I got this whole thing started. After I posted that first clip, I had two goals moving forward:

One was to make more episodes and the other one was to build a plush.

The reason for that is that I have always enjoyed projects like: Woodworking, 3D printing, origami, you know, very hands-on projects.

So, the idea of taking something I made in the computer and bringing to life just seemed like a really fun project to take on.

It's been very humbling. It has taken may months, many revisions but the team has finally put something together that looks and feels just like the character.

So, it speaks when you squeeze its backside.

It will say some of our favorite sayings from the YouTube Channel.

And at the belly we have the official trademarked logo.

So this is a prototype. It was build by the factory that is gonna make the rest of them.

Which is really good news, because: They know how to make it, they are gonna use the same material, same fur, same eyes, same proportions...

It's gonna be very minimal lost of quality from the Prototype to the real thing. More or less just like this.

So, ¿How do you get one?

We will be selling it through our Storefront at Teespring for $20 + Shipping

You will be able to get one wherever Teespring ships to.

They built us a Pre-Order page, which is down on the description.

And think of this like a Kickstarter.

The way this is gonna work is: For the next 30 days, we are going to run this campaign. Then we are gonna take the orders and give it to the factory, it's gonna take them 60 days to build all the plushes, and then after that it will take a couple of months to ship it them all to you.

That's is worth reiterating because what that means is that the windows to buy one is only gonna be 30 days long.

After that, we don't have any plans to make it a second run. Whatever we sell in 30 days, that's gonna be it.

We are going to do our best to remind you through all of our social media pages as the days are dwelling down.

Which reminds me, there's a lot of people that had asked: ¿What's the best way to stay up to date with Official Lucas The Spider News?

And there's 3 ways:

The first one is probably the easiest: Just subscribe to the YouTube Channel, because I keep all the news in the Community Tab.

The second way is Facebook: We have a page called Lucas The Spider. We post all the videos there, all the same news.

And the third way is my Instagram account. It's basically just a place where I put photos of my dog and Lucas The Spider... information.

So, if you like Golden Retrievers, feel free to follow me there at dexterthegoldenpup17.

So, most of you know this, but the voice of the character is done by my 6 years old nephew, whose name is also Lucas.

There's been a lot of talk of what's the best way to compensate a 6 years old for their voice acting, and what we have arrive is that, a percent of what we make from the plush is gonna be put to his college account.

So in buying one not only you will be getting something that I am sure you are gonna love, but you will be doing a lot of good for my nephew and his future.

So I think that is everything I want to talk about. The link is live, orders are coming in and it should be clearing selling from here.

I just want end by saying how thankful I am for all the fans and supporters out there, for your love for the character.

To make something that resonates so much for so many people, it is just an amazing thing. Knowing that my videos are making people smile, by millions around the world. It's just amazing.

And it's and honor to be such a positive influence on the world.

So: Thank you very much.

✅ England rugby ace Jonny Wilkinson to become a dad for the first time - Duration: 3:17.

</form>Jonny Wilkinson is set to become a dad for the first time. The former England rugby star's wife Shelley Jenkins is due to give birth later this summer

The 2003 World Cup winner and his expectant wife looked thrilled with their baby news as they attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in Windsor last weekend

Shelley's pink lace dress covered her baby bump as they made their way into the service

But even before he becomes a dad, the 39-year-old former fly-half revealed he's been on a "huge journey" since leaving the sport in 2014

"I'm genuinely happy now. My life has changed so much in the past six years. I've been on a huge journey," he told the Sun

"It used to be rugby that would give me that pass to feeling good about myself but I don't need it any more

Today, having dinner with my family is my rugby and having good health is my rugby

"I honestly don't miss playing because I don't need it any more." Jonny also opened up about his life-long battle with his mental health and talking about how his anxiety first manifested, Jonny said he was around six-years-old when he first started to suffer

"If you're going to school every day thinking, 'What is the point?' that can be tough," he said

"I thought time would sort it out but it got worse as I got older. "For me it was a fear of death, and if someone told me, 'That's life, put your chin up,' that was another dead end for me

I just could not accept that." He explained his last breakdown came when he was 26 and was related to my injuries

"I did not go down the suicidal route but no options is no options," he said. Adding: "There were several lows in my life — times when I could not see a way out — and those were the darkest points

" But Jonny has turned a corner and said he is now coaching part-time and focusing on his health

"I am coaching a group of lads how to kick so sometimes I show them how to do it," he said

"But there are days when I don't kick a b at and that rey doesn't bother me."
