Waching daily May 31 2018

Hi! It's Heather from Thicketworks. Today I'm going to demonstrate just how easy

it is to stencil with Seth Apter's Baked Texture Embossing Powders for Artists!

I'll be demonstrating this technique over this ordinary background created

with DIY spray inks on glossy inkjet photo paper. Liquitex Modeling Paste

mixed together with black craft paint will act as the binding media for the

Baked Texture Embossing Powders. I received this gorgeous "Angel Wings"

stencil designed by my friend Kristie Taylor...if you'd like to pick up this

beautiful stencil, there's a link in the description. I'm mixing together enough

modeling paste to cover the surface of this stencil with a few drops of black

acrylic craft paint. I've chosen to tint this mixture so that any bits of it that

peek through the final layer of embossing powder will add depth and

richness to the design. You can add any color of acrylic paint that you like...

When you peel the stencil away, the surface is ready to receive the Baked

Texture. I'm using Ancient Amber for this example. You will want to make certain to

clean your stencil as quickly as possible after using modeling paste! When

we heat the Baked Texture that's causing the underlying modeling paste to boil

and bubble like a cauldron full of ye of Newt! The resulting texture is richly

organic and full of life. I love the way that the dark modeling paste shines

through in the areas where the embossing powder did not adhere fully. The layers

of color, coupled with the texture create a more

interesting effect than one could ever have using

say, flat paint through a stencil. To frame the piece I'm using the remaining

modeling paste mixture on the edges of the page. By using a palette knife to

apply the modeling paste, we can create a jagged texture that echoes the spiky

formations on the wings. And did I mention the TEXTURE? Oh my goodness.

A simple heart shape cut from black cardstock will form the focal point... and

this time I'll be using this glue pen as the binding media for the embossing

powders. The center of the heart will be Ancient Amber for that rich golden

metallic gleam. The liquid glue provides a smoother but still fascinating texture.

I'm going to surround the gold inner heart with a layer of "Chunky Rust".

Initially I thought this would be a combination that would work well with

this piece, but I changed my mind as the piece progresses once. Once the Chunk Rust

has been fully activated by the heat gun, I take a few moments to

contemplate the result - and realize that I need more DARKNESS! Next, I'll add a

rich dark border of "Rocky Road" - this delicious black with flecks of silver.

But there's still not enough darkness! So after adding a border of Rocky Road I

add even more over the top of the Chunky Rust layer, allowing just a bit to peak

through... and now we have a result that a girl can love! The heart motif fits

perfectly between the wings - but it's missing one thing and that's a sentiment!

Even if our hearts feel old and rusty, we can always have hope.

To integrate that sticker into the background a single spritz of do-it-yourself coffee

stain... and once it's dried, double-sided foam tape is used to lift it slightly

off of the background surface. If you're a fan of grungy texture coupled with

gorgeous metallic gleam, you'll have to give this technique a try!

The resulting texture is delicious to touch - it's a delight for the eye and for

the fingertips! Kristie's beautiful stencil design has been a pleasure to

work with...and coupled with the Seth Apter Baked Texture Embossing Powders

for Artists, this powerful motif really comes to life and helps to express

something that I feel very strongly about: Always have hope -no matter what.

Thank you for hanging out with me today! Until next time - Bye!

How To Prepare For NYC's Biggest Festival || Do It Right: Governor's Ball - Duration: 3:51.

- New York is the city that never sleeps,

and it gets even less sleep every June

when it plays host to Governors Ball,

which is basically New York's biggest party.

Gov Ball's a three-day, Randall's Island-based

entertainment smorgasbord built for fun,

and if you have a ticket, you'll wanna soak up

as much fun as humanly possible.

I'm Wil from Thrillist, and this is "Do It Right,"

Governors Ball Edition.

You show up to Randall's Island with nothing but a ticket

and a healthy sense of adventure, you might not last long.

First off, you can and probably should bring a bag.

Gov Ball suggests you bring something

light that's easily opened, as all bags

will be 100% thoroughly searched.

I don't mean to sound like your mom or my mom,

but sunburns suck.

Bring sunscreen -- I cannot stress this enough.

Also bring sunglasses, a hat, or even a bandanna

if you wanna look like a bad (bleep) Labrador.

If it might even possibly rain, bring an emergency poncho.

Umbrellas and concerts don't mix; it's a visibility thing.

And if you don't have boots,

you can get a garbage bag and some duct tape to slap it on.

No matter what, when you're going to a festival,

you're gonna need these three essential items,

no matter what.

Portable phone charger.

The only thing worse than an empty beer glass

is a dead phone, and hot weather will kill your battery.

Make sure your phone is fully charged

so you can hit up your friends,

and also keep up on the dankest memes of the internet,

'cause that's what's really important.

Water and a water bottle.

Gov Ball is pretty great about having readily available

water stations all over the lawn.

But, you still need something to fill up.

You can bring in a sealed water bottle

and refill it once you're done,

or you can obviously bring in a reusable water bottle, too.

Just make sure it isn't filled up

when you go through security, or they will dump it out.

I promise you.

Your ID.

Remember what I said about an empty beer glass?

You won't get served, period, without an ID,

and that would suck.

Bonus hack: Rent a locker.

You can rent a locker for $50 for the entire weekend

to stow extra clothes, a blanket, sunscreen --

basically anything you want

aside from your store- bought hot dog collection.

If you're going to be going all three days to the festival,

this is a steal, if only to stow away a few extra shirts

and a stick of deodorant.

Trust me: Your friends and cab driver will thank you later.

And if you forgot anything at home, like sunscreen, water,

or even one of those little portable fans,

you can always stop by the info tent

to pick up a free swag bag loaded with essentials,

and free is always good, right?

Listen up, campers:

You're gonna have to leave the tent at home,

because Gov Ball isn't one of those festivals.

When the last artist plays, you don't have to go home,

but you can't stay on Randall's Island.

So, you're gonna need a place to crash.

Luckily, New York has some hotels in town --

like thousands and thousands and thousands of hotels --

and Hotels.com, an official sponsor of Gov Ball,

can help you filter the top of the heap

from the bottom of the barrel.

Now that we've covered the logistics,

let's get to the fun stuff.

Part of the fun of festivals is catching up and coming acts

before they were cool.

Try to see rising indie star Maggie Rogers

play her hit single "Alaska" on Friday evening.

Or, catch 19-year-old wunderkind Cuco

play his dreamy psychedelic set on Saturday afternoon

so you can brag about it years from now.

Scattered throughout the grounds will be classic lawn games:

bocce ball, cornhole, and mini-golf.

And last but certainly not least,

there is a giant adult-sized ball pit to bring you back

to those idyllic childhood birthday parties.

It almost brings a tear to my eye.

As you can tell, Governors Ball is basically a playground

for adults, so remember, stay safe, keep hydrated,

and above all, don't forget to wear sunscreen.

Sunburns may fade, but shame and photos last forever.

That's it for me.

Look for us at Gov Ball 2018.

I'll be the dude in the Statue of Liberty man romper.

Maybe not, but also maybe.

I don't know.

We'll see you there.

"Do It Right" was brought to you by Hotels.com,

book your festival stay today.

OFF WHITE AIR JORDAN 1 UNC REVIEW / HISTORY - Duration: 10:19.

Yo, bro, did you just see the drop I didn't get him did you get him? Yeah me either man

I guess we gotta wait until I drop I'll hit you later. All right

The brand off-white has arrived from a once short-lived hyper Street brand by the name of pirates

credit by Virgil oblong Virgil creator of RSVP gallery part owner of been shrill brain an

Occasional disc jockey is a man of many talents. Most know him for his relationship with Calle is one of his creative directors

Anyone who knows knows that the initiation in the Donna isn't a polite invitation

So you can say his Pyrex brands sold off a cloud alone after virtual tour through the street

We're seen he's selling off every Pyrex karma from here to Shanghai further jumped on board with the Italian clothing mobile new guards group in

2012 amongst heavy hitters Palm Angels Aaron Preston our sir global on creating what we know today as off-white

It's all like an open book diary for me to be myself. You know, I'm just a kid from the u.s

Skating that's like where I came from

Virgil's conceptual processes feel it through his consistent push to fill the needs for street age in high fashion

his influence has bridged the gap birthing the possibilities of collaborations between powerhouses like

Brian supreme and Louis Vuitton shaping the way we view

High-end product forever as consumers become more accustomed to the idea of price markups for limited drops

We now have a demand that hasn't been hired and in the midst of all that chaos

We have the team

the Tim was a limited collection with Nike and Virgil that included 10 sneakers that were designed to showcase the

reconstructed elements of each shoe

The Air Jordan one was a golden child of the collection

And before we got the chance to lick our chops at the first feel of the Chicago colorway

There was a rumor all-white in Carolina blue colorway as well on March 3rd - Theseus dreams were answered

But here's the catch. It was only a year Jota. There was only year

Yeah, you are bony

Apparently was only a year police but on that day another monumental moment for them Nike and off-white brand was made

Hi guys, so as you see we are back

With another review. I feel like I said that every time but it is what it is

They know to expect from this straight II saw the Chicago one. We featured these with J mass. This is a couple months ago

We also had the all white off-white one with Shani other feature. No super dope and

today we have no feature of

Sneakers app

coming in also splash

And this time they did it again with the Jordan one box. Got a lift top here

As you can see through again

Carolina one giving these on the apples a very interesting process. They came out on Wednesday

I had 10:30 and everybody was going crazy. We saw him online and we both struck out

I was like doing day we didn't always to do it ourselves or just it wasn't tough

It was a tough day for me because I seen a lot of people getting does so the next day

I don't know what it was

I decided to wake up a little bit early and I got up it was around 9:30

and I saw another post on a Nike on Instagram and it says the shoes are back on sneakers is

Someone on there and then it's a exclusive access and then I click on the thing and right when I open the app

It's that exclusive access and just sent me

I don't know how this process works. I don't know they give you the option for every size

It just went straight to my socks. I just strength my size by and

That was this and then I was like I didn't believe it was real at first to be honest

So yeah

I mean I didn't I wasn't even able to try

Like I got all the app and there was no Suites of access. It was like an elephant

So for all those who do not know what the Snickers that B is is essentially

Where you get all the exclusive Jordans and that geese from Nike their official app if you haven't already downloaded that app

Please download that app right now

And you have the chance of one is something like an off-white one or whatever

exclusive that's gonna come out if the sneakers outfits not people has been a blessing for others kind of a curse this

Exclusive access is like I don't know if it's a myth or run out of saying yeah, but he obviously hate with exclusive access

So obviously it's there's some truth to it

But like how do you get an exclusive access is the question if you have any answers, please help us out. Let us know

Shoot us some comments. We'll start a conversation

and

Yeah, but moving forward with the kicks. So like into some of the detail a man like the Chicago

If you haven't seen the all white video

We did a comparison to the Chicago and I think it was a unanimous decision. The Chicago wins

Yeah, I think with this the baby blue joint

I think the Chicago comes out on top is well

Let's go ahead and hop into the details and the differences of the sneaker and then we'll be right back at you guys

I want to show you how the couple differences between the 2018 off-white one and the original

2017 off-white one first you can see obviously the color blocking is different here in here

But that's not the main focus of this review. Let's talk about the materials

If you look at the mesh on the side of the sneaker here in here

You can tell that there's a seam line here on the side of the foot and if you look at the Carolina pair you can

Tell that it's a very very faint line within this

Very hard to see I think they did this to mask it a little bit more it also helped keep the shoe together

With the new materials now going into the toe

You can see it's a very very obvious difference between the mesh how it has like a short small square

Type pattern and there's kind of a little bit of ripich between the dots on the toe

Compared to the new pair where it's like very fine clean-cut a diagonal more diamond cut

A lot of people are having problems when they wore the original 2017 pair just because it was falling apart on them

So I'm thinking the new material change allows it to be more functional more

You know rock able let's take it to the back of the sneaker

Now the only difference that I noticed is the sock liner on the inside of the sneaker

You see the baby blue liner here compared to the all-black on the out in the inside compared to the white in the blue here

Besides from that everything looks very very identical onto the inside of the foot

You have your original classic off-white branding same as the Chicago from the original pair as well

Let's take it to the outside of the sneaker just on the back part

If you look at this ditch color, you can see it's got a blue and orange and then on here, it's just all orange

That's just a little difference a little hit

The insole has the same pattern but as you can see here

It's just a little bit bigger on the foot compared to the older pair

I'm not exactly sure why they did that but it's a cool look and then also you can see the teen

Branding here and the Nike Air branding there

And then on the tongue you have your same branding with the orange head compared to the red hit on the original Chicago pair

I'm not exactly sure why they seem two pairs of orange laces

But it is what it is going to the orange laces on the Chicago pair

It has an orange with a white lettering. And then on the Carolina pair has an orange with a black lettering

So people want to switch it up

There's something else for them to do if they have both pairs in the final touch of the sneaker

The red tab, the only difference on here is the 2018 here and the 2017 there? Okay

So what do you guys think about the shoe? Is it a Carolina or is it a Chicago?

I mean the Carolina more practical for wearing with the Chicago looks better for color Lance Tom. What do you think about it man?

Like I said, the Chicago for me is a winning, but I'm gonna be honest

There's some features on the baby blue joints that I really like like the reinforced toe

Yeah, I think that's a win as far as being able to wear these joints, right? I think they're definitely wearable

You know what I'm saying, as far as like the colorway goes, I think the original the original

Carolina one is

definitely a go if these weren't off-white they wouldn't

Really hit not out there hitting you Carolina one that released. I mean how much of those work?

Yeah, so, I mean that this was off white it would it really be going for that much

Is this gonna be sure that you actually think is dope or is it thing that you think you're like? Oh

It's just hyped up. I need to have it in my collection. They have not released the white ones in the US yet

Yeah doesn't feel like possibility here. We got a check to have every day every single

Yeah, every time I get a notification I was thinking it's to offer one right exclusive back. Right and it didn't but yeah

Thank you guys again for watching. We appreciate it

like we said just let us know man what you're thinking about the kick because we love to hear your opinions and we love to

Start a conversation in the comments

Section so let us know give us a life because thumbs up, you know, and just if you don't like the video

That's fine to dislike it. But we want something to have an engagement, you know? Yes, sir. And

We're gonna be in Chicago the next week. Yeah, so if you guys are out there and Chicago make sure you hit it

So we will be out there at sneaker Con. So I don't know you might see these four trades out there. Who knows?

I'm bringing some heat up too. So I need these right here. I need some fragment ones

There's a couple other things. I mean, you can't work with a baby. We're coming to make some deals this week

Just know it's kind of we bring some heat out for shows they do put out. All right, sure. All right

The Best Things To Do In NYC After Governor's Ball || Intermission: Governor's Ball - Duration: 2:20.

- This is "Intermission," the summer festival show

that fills you in on the best of the best of the best

outside of festival grounds.

Whether you're trying to kill time,

experience the big city like a local,

or you were just unlucky enough to miss out on a ticket,

this video's for you.

What's up, internet?

It's that time of the year again:

New York City's Governors Ball.

It's always one of the highlights

of festival season, and for good reason.

It's basically the biggest party of the summer.

This city is generally one of the best places

in the entire world to eat.

If you're looking to line your stomach

while enjoying great music, stop by Dirty French

on the Lower East Side.

You'll find copious amounts of drinks,

Parisian crepes, live jazz bands,

and a staff of servers all rocking basketball sneakers.

If New York pizza's more your speed,

you'll have a hard time finding a better pie in town

than at Brooklyn's iconic Roberta's.

This legendary joint features super-hip neo-Neapolitan pies.

It's open super-late, so if you're in Brooklyn

after the show, you can still swing by.

You may have heard that New Yorkers like to drink a lot,

and yeah, we kinda do.

Union Pool in Brooklyn has a reputation for being

a fun place to drink, and -- uh, how should I say this?

We're all adults here, right?

Plus they even have live music on the weekends.

Good luck people, and wear protection.

If you've had your fill of food and drink

and would rather do something a little semi-active,

New York is there for you.

We do do stuff besides going to restaurants

and bars, I swear.

You came to New York to see music.

Gov Ball actually has a slew of after-dark shows

that run when the festival ends.

There are actually some pretty big names out there,

like the Japandroids playing Brooklyn's Elsewhere Hall

on Friday night,

and The Regrettes headline in Knitting Factory

on Sunday night.

But if you'd rather see some smooth jazz

and pair it with a nightcap,

Manhattan's iconic Smalls Jazz Club

always has late-night shows on the weekends.

Let me tell you, JetSkiing on the Hudson River

with a prime view of the New York skyline:

pretty much the most cinematic thing you can do

aside from kissing Bruce Willis. And guess what?

You can actually do the JetSkiing thing.

Jetty Jumpers have a questionable name,

but they will take you on a scenic three-hour tour

around the Statue of Liberty and back again,

all aboard a high-powered personal JetSki.

With all that in mind, just remember one thing:

In New York, it's damn hard to have a bad time.

Just walk around, meet people, and follow your gut.

That's it for me.

"Intermission" was brought to you by Hotels.com,

book your stay today.

We Ordered EVERYTHING At Sizzler!!!! | Going In - Duration: 7:17.

Sizzler. With. The. Boys.

[Music]

Dude, Sizzler.

When was last time you all went to Sizzler?

I say probably like two years.

[Music]

Yeah, I haven't been since I was a little kid.

[Music]

I remember there was some sort of buffet,

there was salad and I know that they're known for steaks.

Yeah, one thing I do remember is the steaks

from Sizzler are pretty good.

Even though I'm vegetarian now...

[Music]

Do any of you guys remember the Malibu Chicken?

Like the ham and the Swiss cheese

melted on top of the fried piece of chicken?

No, but that sounds hella good.

I remember the, uh, the salmon.

[Music]

They have like a salmon glazed with something nice.

Well shit, we're gonna order the whole [beep] menu.

Yay-yay. Y'all pumped?

Yeah, I'm really excited.

Everyone's happy, full and your wallet's still full too.

Get full with your wallet still full.

I like that. Aye.

That's a good line bro.

That could be their new slogan.

Bro, you better talk to them about that.

Get full with your wallet still full.

[Music]

Why y'all giving him the credit like he made it up,

I was the one who said it.

I brought this nigga along...

There it is. S-S-S-S-S-Sizzler.

So this is what a Sizzler looks like.

Whoa, this looks completely different from what I remember.

Yeah, there's way more colors in here.

And pretty.

And it's bright.

Honestly, this feels like a very authentic family restaurant.

[Music]

See, the Malibu, that's what I am talking about.

You guys ready?

Let's order.

Yeah, yeah.

Menu's right here.

I'm just gonna start with the left side of the menu.

Let's see, everything is good?

Everything is delicious.

Let's definitely start with the Steak & Lobster.

Steak & Lobster? Alright.

Let's do an order of ribs, a rack of ribs.

Yeah, the Philly Cheesesteak for sure.

Pulled Pork Barbecue Sandwich. Baked yam & maple top.

I'll do the vegetable medley.

The Sweet Thai and Half-Pound Crispy Shrimp,

And then, do we have to-- we order the salad bar?

Add-on salad bar with that? Yup.

We have a mixing station over there.

And she'll toss your salad for you when you go up there.

I think we got everything on the menu.

Alright, thank you so much.

I am going to carry everything out to you,

you are going to help yourself get the salad bar

and you are going to get everything ready.

Perfect, thank you.

[Music]

Salad time.

This is crazy, we order all the food and then they have

the whole salad bar.

[Music]

These are my favorites.

Look at that, stuffed with corn, so good.

[Music]

I got tacos, pasta, mac and cheese,

potato wedges and fried chicken in one move.

[Music]

The food hasn't even come out yet,

like the food we ordered.

This is the waiting room food.

This is the American dream right here we are living bro.

American dream bro.

Baby back ribs and vegetables.

You have a freshly-cut premium steak.

You have Philly cheesesteak and french fries.

You have the bourbon sirloin cut, medium.

French dip with french fries.

Jumbo shrimp scampi linguine bowl.

We have our famous classic trio.

Sizzler. With. The. Boys.

[Music]

We did it again.

What?

Hey yo Seth, what are you doing today man?

We about to eat.

We eating bro?

We about to eat, we about to feast like the beast.

We eating bro, oh my God.

In the streets.

[Music]

Oh my goodness, holy cow.

Well done, guys.

Oh yeah, we out here. We're hungry.

That was tight. She came by with two thumbs up,

was like, "y'all did good."

Did you hit it with a lemon?

Got to hit it with the lemon.

Schroop!

Yo, compliments to the chef!

Look at this.

Just look at this cheesy bread.

Look at this. Cheesy bread.

Yo, I'm sorry but the Malibu Chicken...

You still on the Malibu?

I'm still on the Malibu.

Alright, so what inspired you to not eat meat anymore?

Honestly, I just thought about like all the animals

that just go through what they go through.

Imagine if like,

you know, I don't want to go too deep into it but like...

You know, because like we're all spirits and stuff.

And I'm like dang, that's an animal.

So that's just my thing.

That's respect.

That's [beep] up that I'm doing what I'm doing.

Watch this technique, BAM, BAM, schroop.

Oh, the schroop didn't really happen.

You got to put a little bit of the toppings

on the bottom, so that you get a little surprise you know.

This is how we go in baby, all our friends.

[cough] I got brain freeze.

Patience, patience.

Motherf--, shit, it's wild out here dawg.

Carnival Splendor Mexican Riviera Vlog - Day 3 - Duration: 15:41.

today's video is brought to you by CruiseLine.com and Shipmate app did

you know you can research and both your excursions right in the shipmate app

click on explore choose your port and browse excursions by destination it's

super simple to read reviews from real cruisers and book your activities right

in the app

it's 7:00 a.m. and we're making our foggy approach into Cabo San Lucas we

should be there at about 3 hours just wanted to show you that they've closed

the retractable roof over the pool deck they did this last night so that people

could watch movies on some of these ships you don't see them actually using

the retractable pull decks that much but it seems that it's a very common

occurrence here on splendor

good morning they're pulling in to Cobo they made it to breakfast with two

minutes to spare this is basically like court day breakfast in the meantime here

and it goes from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. so a little bit different from sea day brunch

which runs like 7:30 to 1:30 or something like that so they have this

cool thing in here you guys called Port sea day express breakfast where you can get

in and out in 25 minutes so you can make it ashore in time and with that you get

orange juice eggs any style hickory-smoked bacon sausage twist event

bread and pastries but they also have a really elaborate menu here so we ordered

some really cool things my husband got granola I got the avocado toast and my

son got some thinking about this short stack of pancakes with no pecan scent

really fancy beautiful toppings so we'll be sure to show you the menu

I think our food is coming that you definitely want to check this one out

because they've really gone all out with the menu to make it a little bit

non-traditional and fun so as soon as we are anchored we're gonna go ashore in

Cabo San Lucas and your aqua trio adventure which is power snorkeling

stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking all in one day we're super stoked to try

something totally new and excited to get out there and enjoy this beautiful

weather

oh that looks so delicious is that homemade granola

thank you very much

it's 11:30 we had no wait for a tender and they're using the combo tenders

which are super efficient fast and get like 50 people on these things so were

and ashore with 45 minutes to spare

so we're about 25 minutes early for our excursions so we thought we would hit a

restroom give two choices here either wait in a long line and the jewelry

store to go to the restroom or you go to that place over there you see the

restroom signs and they charge you a dollar so right now I'm competing with

literally dozens of water taxi vendors so when I tell you guys you're not to

have any issues getting a water taxi you gotta trust me

so tomorrow we're gonna show you guys how to get to Medano Beach on your own

step-by-step and we're actually going to we're actually gonna hire one of these

guys to take us over to Medano Beach usually what I do is I wait to get out

of this crazy crowded area and I go down that long pathway right there until they

get a little bit less aggressive so pro tip do not be freaked out by the vendors

this is totally normal this is just how they make a living we're just going to

hang out here and enjoy the noise before our excursion

well this is interesting we stayed on ship time in Cabo instead of going

forward an hour so even though our watch converted over to Cabo time it still

says ship time so you have to be really careful if you're booking an excursion

in Cabo if you look down at your watch you're gonna see that it goes forward an

hour so just really listen to the cruise directors instructions on how to handle

that anyway we are waiting for our aqua trio adventure to take off we're missing

one couple and then we are off to go get geared up and get our fins and snorkel

is masks and all that stuff and then we've heard it's going to be a really

small group today so looking forward to it

alright we're geared up we're in the dolphin area I got a fins snorkel mask

wetsuits for the whole family and we are off

yeah so what's gonna happen my friends well right now Beale is gonna start to

take a couple of pictures of you just for the records of pretend that you are

happy and then we are going to move and see the most famous spots here in the

bay all right we are ... gonna pick up some speed

so very important to use the old method of the spit just before you jump into

the water just gonna spit into the mask very generous don't worry about it with

your fingers in washing in the ocean in that way the mask is gonna be clear for

you the rest of the day and if you don't want to spit don't worry we have a

bottle full of spit from all the crew right there in the back if you want it

nope no problem three two one go see you in

the cold seas

and I got another boy in the back all right part two of the aqua trio

adventurous be good got my son paddling in the front and we got hubby bringing

up the rear with the muscles here so yeah the water is all chilly like 60 degrees but still

super fun power snorkeling was amazing hey are you complaining up front no

complaining up front get to work having this out

how's it going back there muscles how's it going muscles

what's sup get it? it's really hard you guys and add to it

massive chopping wind and this is not a graceful sport or Sheri from CruiseTipsTV yes honey

he's doing great super fun the water you can feel is cold

the second time around for some reason but definitely refreshing kind of like

it was last May when we were here for the birthday cruise Carnival Miracle

at the end of the Aqua trio adventure you come back into the dolphin area and

they have snacks set up for us so he said something about ceviche and

margaritas no tender line no tender line we like that

for me the spicy chipotle pineapple martini is coming home on Carnival this

has become of my new favorite cocktail

tiniest bit of sweet but just a little kick of spice and it's nice and strong

and that's how I like it so Cabo day number one was awesome with so much fun

I am so proud of my little son yes you little boy

because he snorkelled like a boss he actually did not wear his snorkel and

mask wore his goggles but he used the little power snorkel and he went for it he

stand up paddleboard and he kayaked he jumped in the frigid cold water before

anyone else and we had so much fun you guys so the Aqua trio Adventure is

really great it's a carnival excursion but I believe that it's put on through

Cabo adventures you probably can't book at independently the biggest surprise

from today was that after the excursion they took us back to the dolphin area we

didn't get to see the dolphins really except for through this little pool

peep hole but they took us back and gave us cocktails ice tea and this amazing lime

mint water and her made ceviche which is just the best possible thing you can get

in Mexico with those fresh tortilla chips and salsa the staff were wonderful

we felt really safe but yet we felt like we had a good high sense of adventure so

tonight we are back at good old table for 410 our wonderful booth here in the

main dining room and they have some really cool entrees tonight and

specialties for this port of call so my husband got the tostada appetizer and

I got the tilapia main which is kind of a regional specialty so I'm sure it will

be wonderful we probably won't do too much after dinner tonight because we

went strong today out in the salt and the Sun and we're getting ready to do it

again tomorrow so this is probably at night we'll see you again for

Cabo take two tomorrow until tomorrow we'll see you on the high seas

My Neighbor, Charles | 이웃집 찰스 - Ep.142 / A dream of Sudamma monk from Sri Lanka [ENG/2018.06.01] - Duration: 48:08.

(The hot place for designs)

(Korea's landmark DDP)

(Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Jung-gu, Seoul)

(142nd class at the foreigner school)

This is My Neighbor, Charles

where we meet foreigners living in Korea.

- Hello. / - Hello.

You all know what day it is today, right?

- Yes. It's Buddha's birthday. / - Yes.

Buddha's birthday.

Thanks to Buddha, we are having a great day off.

- That's right. / - It's a holiday!

I apologize on behalf of these foolish people.

They are so immature.

There is a famous quote by Buddha

so I want to read it to you.

I'm excited.

"A person who is free from the idea

of discrimination can no longer be bound.

But those who insist on prejudice

live in conflict with each other."

Do you have to lower your voice like that?

Exactly.

- Just act normal. / - Geez.

It's tough for me as well.

Just let it slide since it's a special day today.

So we shouldn't discriminate and make prejudices?

That was the spirit of My Neighbor, Charles.

Today's guest is working hard

day and night to pass on the teaching of Buddha.

Really?

Let's bring him in.

Come on in.

Welcome.

- As expected. / - Hello.

Hello.

Hello.

I'm from Sri Lanka.

My name is Sudamma.

It's been 8 years since I came to Korea.

Currently, I'm at Gilsangsa

in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do.

Actually, Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country.

70% of the population is Buddhist.

What is the reason that you came to Korea?

I had some worries about welfare.

Oh, welfare.

I think it's a good thing that you came here.

Are you satisfied with your life in Korea?

Yes, I've adjusted well now.

The food is good too.

I'm used to the weather to some extent.

There is no winter in Sri Lanka, right?

- Pardon? / - There is no winter, right?

No, there's no winter.

The lowest temperature it can get

is about 10℃ to 13℃

So what are you exactly doing

in Korea, Monk Sudamma?

I'm doing several things, not just one.

I'm doing lots of things

for foreign workers.

When they go to the hospital,

or to the police station or the court,

I go with them to help.

Just by hearing his voice,

I can feel his warm heart.

- He seems very reliable. / - Very trustworthy.

Thank you.

He left Sri Lanka and he's now

living in Korea, helping his neighbors.

Let's see how busy his life is.

- So curious. / - We will follow him.

(My Neighbor Charles)

(The Management of Number Two Monk)

It's still dark early morning

and everybody is still asleep.

Monk Sudamma has been

starting his day at this time for 8 years.

It's to have the early morning Buddhist service.

Gilsangsa is located on one side of

a residential area.

He isn't anyone special here.

He's just an ordinary monk who wears

the same clothes as Korean monks and prays.

We wear different clothes because of the weather.

We don't wear pants in Sri Lanka

because it's too hot.

I can't survive the winter if I wear the Sri Lankan robe.

(In Korean style when praying with Korean Buddhists)

Monk Sudamma looks exactly like a Korean monk

from the back.

There are two other monks at Gilsangsa.

And one of them is...

Monk Githi is also from Sri Lanka.

He came to Korea a year ago.

(He's coming)

And there is the head monk, Monk Doje,

who manages the temple

and leads the two foreign monks.

(Buddhist service starts at 4 a.m.)

Well, if you have to rank them,

Monk Sudamma is the number two monk here.

(Meditating after praying)

It's meditation session after the Buddhist service.

Everyone meditates in the right posture

But he is...

(Scratch, scratch)

(I can't do it...)

His legs seem uncomfortable.

(Twisting his ankles)

I understand that your legs are feeling numb

but can you really do that?

(Can he see me?)

(Of course)

Monk Githi, are your legs okay?

No...

Are they okay?

(Embarrassed)

Have a sit.

I will teach you.

(How Sri Lankan monks sit)

In Korea,

monks sit like this.

You sit like this.

Like this.

Monk Githi.

You will have to take some time

to get used to Korean Buddhism.

You have to get used to it.

Monk Sudamma is very good.

(Oh, I'm not all that...)

Well...

He has lived in Korea for over 7 years now.

I think he adjusted to the life here very well.

He's good at praying and Korean.

I'm so thankful.

You are doing great so it's really comfortable for me.

But even Monk Sudamma wasn't good at the beginning.

Everything was unfamiliar from

wearing the clothes to language.

But the biggest problem was the cold weather.

He used to get sick often that he lost a lot of weight.

Thank you.

You are so cool, Monk Sudamma.

Monk, you've gotten prettier.

Your face got slimmer.

(Anyone can tell that my face is round...)

He's the mother of Gilsangsa.

Mother? Why?

He embraces everything.

The father is the head monk.

Mother. And they have a baby now.

(Oh, they are talking about Monk Githi)

He says it's tough

but he's still trying to adjust.

(Monk Sudamma gets along well with other Buddhists)

Monk Githi is receiving great attention

at Gilsangsa these days.

Monk.

I think your voice is too small when you pray.

You have to work harder.

Monk Githi!

Yes.

I'm leaving.

Monk!

You can go if you want.

Is it because he's too shy?

He doesn't seem comfortable being with other people.

When I look at Monk Githi, I think that

I used to behave like him too.

In Sri Lanka, a 7-year-old monk and

a head monk are treated the same way.

Even the president and parents

kowtow three times.

That's the Sri Lankan Buddhist culture

that we were grown up with.

It's really tough to change that to the Korean way.

In Sri Lanka, monks have

great power that people can't even just look at them.

So it must be hard to live here,

while mingling with other people.

Right, Monk Sudamma?

(The garbage truck is leaving)

Oh, we didn't empty our recycling bin.

It's leaving!

We have to take the trash out.

- It's leaving? / - Yes.

Monk Sudamma, is it alright

to touch garbage with your valuable hands?

The people in Sri Lanka would be shocked to see this.

(Here)

Two iced coffee, please.

(Why does he need coffee all of a sudden?)

(Running)

Oh, it wasn't for himself.

Even I feel thankful, just watching him.

Monk Sudamma likes to take care of people.

I also hear that he likes to

create work for himself.

(Checking the strength of the wooden board)

I was wondering what he was trying to do with that.

It seems safe.

Oh, he made a ramp.

Can you go up?

No, you'll fall!

After hearing that the handicapped people

are coming to the cafe run by the temple,

Monk Sudamma hurriedly installed a ramp.

He's very talented.

I should've made it better.

But I didn't have enough time

so I didn't have any choice.

(He even serves the drinks himself)

Who ordered sweet pumpkin juice?

Who ordered caramel macchiato?

Thank you.

Make us look skinny.

You look skinny in the photo.

Okay, here I go.

Kimchi.

Monk Sudamma acts without hesitation

if it is to help someone.

Thank you.

It seems like he really likes people.

Enjoy.

I became a monk when I was 9 years old.

Since then, I liked helping people

and I thought I should help others

for me to get help as well.

I came to Korea because

I wanted to be involved in more welfare activities.

He has been volunteering from a young age.

He has a dream.

It's to establish a welfare facility

to treat people who are sick and injured.

Before that,

he wanted to learn properly about the welfare system.

So he came to Korea

and is having real-life experience

for 8 years now.

(Volunteering is My Life)

Monk Sudamma's main stage

is the migrant worker welfare center.

They help multicultural families

and migrant workers here.

Hello.

- Welcome. / - Welcome.

Oh, there's a guest.

(Kowtows to Monk Sudamma)

Looking at the way he greets the monk,

it looks like he's from Sri Lanka.

Why did he come to meet Monk Sudamma?

(Why is he here with all his stuff?)

He needs to sign here.

You have to write your personal information here

and hand in a copy of your passport.

Is the monk finding him a job? No way!

I asked a friend for Monk Sudamma's phone number.

Many Sri Lankans know him very well.

Everybody knows the monk,

not because he finds jobs for them

but because of this shelter.

Where are you from?

From Gunsan.

Migrant workers

stay here until they find work.

This is also where Monk Sudamma stays.

Put your stuff in this room.

Monk Sudamma is the guardian

while they live here.

He's like the parent of them.

You can unpack and organize your things.

Thank you.

It's good. It's alright.

Anyway, now the monk has

one more person to take care of.

(Around dinner time)

It's around dinner time.

For some reason, the head monk

called out all the monks of Gilsangsa.

But, I don't see Monk Githi.

(Where is Monk Githi?)

Monk Githi is sick...

I think he'll be a little late.

The head monk doesn't look too happy.

The head monk received a text

from Monk Githi in advance.

What is this? He has been sick very often.

Monk Sudamma is in an awkward situation.

Look at page 320.

(You need to learn more)

The Korean-style Buddhist prayer lesson

started without Monk Githi.

(Is the Korean style very different?)

You have to use your stomach

and stretch out the sound.

We did it for the morning Buddhist service.

(Wow, he's amazing)

After about 30 minutes...

The troublemaker has appeared.

I was worried that he wouldn't come at all

but it's a relief.

(Sorry, I'm late)

Monk Githi, why are you late?

(Translating even at this moment)

I'm sick right now.

I went to the hospital.

Medicine...

I took medicine.

But...

I'm a bit sloppy.

- Sleepy. / - Sleepy.

- Are you sleepy? / - Yes.

He didn't come out for a week

and I couldn't even reach him.

So it was really tough.

Why do you think that is, Monk Sudamma?

I think it's because of the weather.

But I think he's getting better than before.

For about 2 to 3 years...

When you catch a cold, you never get better.

You just keep catching a cold after another.

That was really tough.

There is a saying,

"Time heals all wounds."

I think we need to be patient with Monk Githi...

To find an answer.

It must be tough now

but you have a goal

so I'm sure you'll do well.

(An obstacle he must overcome to achieve his goal)

It's time to go to bed.

The monk's day felt so long.

And he never goes straight to bed.

(Listening to Sri Lankan Buddhist teachings)

You must be so tired.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day too.

You should sleep.

(Blanket?)

Is that a blanket?

Isn't that a kasaya?

Why are you using a kasaya instead of a blanket?

In Sri Lanka,

monks always use a kasaya when they sleep.

It blocks mosquitos.

And it blocks the cold breeze.

So it feels so much better to use a kasaya.

Yes, you should have a good sleep to have a good day

It must feel like you're sleeping at home.

(I'm really going to bed now)

Good night.

(2 a.m.)

It hasn't been long since you went to bed.

What is going on?

The head monk is out as well.

- I will be back. / - Yes.

Study hard and take care.

Yes.

Oh, the head monk is leaving for training.

It looks like he's going to be away for a while.

Take care of Monk Githi

so he can adjust well.

Yes.

So is Monk Sudamma going to be

the manager of Gilsangsa for a while?

He must be burdened.

Well, he has no choice but to face it.

But as soon as the head monk is gone,

what is going on?

Monk Githi is not here again.

(Monk Sudamma holds the service by himself)

Why didn't Monk Githi come today?

He's sick.

So he's taking a day off.

Have a good day.

If he keeps doing that, it won't look good

to the Buddhists. He feels uneasy.

A break time after the Buddhist service.

Usually, he enjoys tea at this time.

He must be having ginger tea today.

It's the hot and sweet

Sri Lankan-style ginger tea.

Oh, it must not be for him.

(It's for Monk Githi)

I'll leave it here.

It's tough, right? It'll all pass.

In the past, I got sick very often too.

I just kept having medicine in the room, all alone.

Have a sip.

The cold isn't getting any better.

But your heart hurts more when

you are sick in a foreign land.

Monk Sudamma knows very well

that what he needs is a word of

consolation, not pressure.

(Feeling bad)

Kumara, let's go.

(Monk is going out with someone)

Monk Sudamma doesn't have time to rest.

He heads somewhere with

a man who seems to have an injured leg.

(He doesn't look too comfortable walking)

Since 6 months ago, Monk Sudamma

has been taking care of Kumara.

He's staying at the shelter

for convalescence, not to find a job.

It's been only 2 years since he came to Korea.

What happened?

Someone was reversing a forklift

and he was behind it.

He was in between the wall and the forklift.

The forklift backed up and hit him.

Whenever Kumara gets a checkup

Monk Sudamma goes with him

to interpret doctor's words.

His ankle isn't moving

so he's walking on his toes.

Due to the accident at work,

his right leg nerves have been damaged.

He already had two big surgeries

but he still can't feel his legs.

Well...

I want to know if his strength

to lift his leg up is getting better.

Do you have any strength to lift up your ankle?

Did it get any better in the past 6 months?

No.

He says no.

It's been almost a year.

If he says there's no change,

I think it's very unlikely

that the nerves will come back.

So what we can do is...

There are muscles with working nerves.

We can move those muscles over here.

If we do that...

The right ankle won't go up as much as the left ankle

but it will get a bit powerful.

I see.

It's a relief to hear

that it will get better after another surgery.

It'd be nice to set a date for the surgery now

but Kumara insists that he has to

go home in Sri Lanka first.

He couldn't see his family for the past 2 years.

He misses his family so much.

(He wants to go home because of his family)

I have a daughter.

My daughter is 7 years old.

My son is 11 years old.

Do you have a photo of your wife?

No.

- What? / - I don't have her photo.

You don't have a photo of your wife?

Why?

I don't have my wife's photo.

Oh, no.

Monk Sudamma understands

how Kumara feels.

She looks after you, right?

I think so.

(He gets a call right at that moment)

Hello?

Are you working right now?

Did you go to the hospital? Did you take the medicine?

I have the medicine from before

so I've been taking that.

But it hasn't got any better.

The kids keep fighting.

They won't stay still. Not even for a minute.

He must miss them so much.

It's Monk Sudamma's job to help

Kumara to have a safe journey.

You should send her some gifts.

Thinking of Kumara who's going back to Sri Lanka,

Monk Sudamma gets busy as well.

(Makes a call to Sri Lankan whenever he has time)

Hello.

Thank you.

For helping me in many ways...

No problem. I should help you.

Are you building the roof now?

Yes, I think we need an electrician.

He wants to build a welfare center in Sri Lanka.

Since last year, they've actually started to build it.

He's making a place for the injured people

like Kumara to get treated.

(Center for the disabled and for physical therapy)

(The construction site in Sri Lanka)

But he doesn't know when it will get done.

From purchasing materials to

getting workers,

Monk Sudamma is taking care of it himself.

As for physical therapy,

there are only few big hospitals where they have that.

I want it to be 100% free of charge.

It may take time

but I need to achieve my goal.

I really want to build it.

(Packing)

The slow construction is a problem

but there is another thing he needs to

prepare to manage a welfare center.

(See you later)

Monk Sudamma seems busy for some reason.

I have to be there by 1. But today...

I was busy.

I think I need to rush.

He rushes to

a university near the temple.

(He has been attending here for a year)

Monk Sudamma has been receiving

social integration education here since last year.

In this class, they teach

Korean culture to migrants.

(30 minutes late)

- Why are you so late? / - I'm sorry.

30 minutes. You came 30 minutes late, Mr. Sudamma.

Please be on time.

- I'm sorry. / - Alright.

He wants to apply for permanent residence

and continue working with Korea.

To do that,

he needs to pass the test first.

(He has to finish 5 programs and pass the test)

Now,

let's review some grammar.

We learned, "It's obvious."

What about Mr. Sudamma?

Does he come often or not?

- Not. / - He didn't come often.

And he came late today.

So what do we think?

It's obvious that

Mr. Sudamma won't come today.

But he came.

I don't think it's something you should laugh about.

- Mr. Sudamma. / - Yes.

If you come late all the time,

how are you going to take the test?

Tell me the reason.

When there is an event at the temple,

I can't leave early.

(Making excuses...)

That's why I'm late...

Help them after you study.

I will try my best.

Can you look at me and say that?

Will you really try your best?

- I will do my best. / - Okay.

(The Weight of Responsibility)

But there's something the monk

can't postpone.

(Kumara is at the roof)

It's to help Kumara return home.

(Looking at his family photo again)

Kumara must be thinking of his family again.

When are you going back?

Next week, on the 25th.

Oh, it's sooner than I thought.

But it seems like he has a worry.

(3 hours ago, a phone call with a labor attorney)

The legal way for Kumara to leave the country is to

terminate the employment relationship with the company

If not, it's going to be a breakaway.

Tell him that I already bought the plane ticket.

On the 25th...

He wants to leave then.

- When? / - The 25th.

I'm not sure if that's going to work.

Exactly.

I think you should end this here first

and think about going to his home.

Alright. Okay.

I want to go even if I don't get the termination.

No. We need to find a way.

I want to give up.

(Worried)

He really wanted to

go back to Sri Lanka

and see his wife and kids.

He said it's okay to be not able to come back to Korea.

He thought that if he went back and saw his family

his body would get better.

So he bought a plane ticket on his own.

Seeing him how he decided to go on that day,

I can feel that he was having a really hard time.

He can't just sit back and watch.

To solve Kumara's

resignation problem,

they visited an employment center.

(Asking for quick termination process)

He wants to go to Sri Lanka.

If he isn't marked as resigned,

there will be a problem with his visa

and later he won't be able to come back to Korea.

Then, he can't get the surgery.

So when should the resignation date be?

For Kumara to go to Sri Lanka,

it must be done by today.

Would it be possible?

Thank you.

The CEO said he will

apply for his resignation right away.

And after he comes back from Sri Lanka

and the treatment, he can get a date

to start working again in Korea.

Thank you.

Be careful.

I thought it'd be difficult.

It's a relief.

Now, he can go home without a worry.

(Health and Happiness)

That afternoon.

I need to make coconut milk.

Is he trying to celebrate Kumara's return to home?

Why is he cooking all of a sudden?

When it's the New Year,

we eat this and great each other.

It's a cultural food.

The New Year in Sri Lanka

begins in the middle of April.

On the New Year's Day

they greet their neighbors

and share food.

What he's making right now is

is kiribath, which is made from

mixing rice with coconut milk.

It's similar to how we share rice cakes on a special day.

(Sri Lankan-style rice cake?)

Rice, side dish.

(Explaining something really hard)

Oh, this is a side dish.

It looks spicy.

Sri Lankan kimchi?

It's not kimchi.

Kimchi, kimchi.

(People have lined up to go in to the temple)

There is something that

they must do before sharing food.

It's to pray to Buddha

and make a New Year's wish.

A Buddhist service on New Year's Day

with the people of Sri Lanka.

It's carried out in the traditional way.

The way they prepare seems different too.

Pray.

Let's begin.

(Migrant workers from Sri Lanka)

Everyone's New Year's wish

is to be healthy.

They pass on their wish on a long yarn.

(To earn money, to protect the family)

(They have left their home)

(We hope that they will return safe)

(And that they won't get hurt or discriminated)

(And that they get respected by the world)

(And that they won't regret their lives)

80% of works that migrant workers do

is very hard labor.

People who have never even seen an ocean,

get on board and go out to the sea to work.

That's just so tough...

Something beyond one could imagine.

What I felt was that

they need love.

They need someone to ask them

if they are feeling sick.

I felt that they need warmth.

After the prayer...

I'm not sure if it will taste good.

Of course it will taste good.

Have more.

It would've been better if they could

have this meal with their family

but they have no choice.

(Their hearts feel abundant)

I hope this meal could fill up

their void hearts a little.

It's good.

We eat like this once a year.

It's good because I'm eating with other people.

- It's been a long time. / - It's good, right?

They all seem happy.

The monk must feel proud.

Seeing them enjoy the food we made,

I feel so happy.

I feel very good.

- Very good? / - Yes.

Until next year,

I hope everyone is healthy and happy.

Finally, the day has come.

It's the day Kumara is going back

home in Sri Lanka.

He lived in Korea for 2 years.

He doesn't have much things.

But he still packed a Korean textbook.

Why are you taking that?

- To study? / - Yes.

Before coming back to Korea,

he wants learn more Korean.

I bought a lot of food.

For my son and daughter.

Chocolate buns.

You bought a lot of food.

(Kids, wait for me)

Many things happened

until this day.

Maybe that's why

everyone seems uneasy.

Have a safe trip.

You must come back.

(We wish you the best)

Kumara is leaving

but the monk hasn't said a word.

It's probably because he's worried.

(Did he sit at the right place)

(Acting like he's alright)

It will be really hard to live like that forever.

I just wish him to get better soon.

The bus is about to leave.

I'm sure he understands your heart, Monk Sudamma.

Let's believe that he'll recover faster

when he meets his family.

Let's go back.

Now, stop worrying about Kumara...

And you should worry about yourself.

(He's late to his class again)

Wow, it's been a long time since he studied.

(The class has finished already)

Mr. Sudamma, you have a counseling session today.

Pack your things and go to the counseling room.

I will see you tomorrow. Thank you.

What could it be about?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Hello.

- Have a sit. / - Yes.

Mr. Sudamma.

Are you busy these days?

- You came late again today. / - Yes.

On May 5th,

we have a midterm.

But you can't take the exam.

(I can't take the exam?)

I was shocked.

I need 100 hours of class.

But I don't have enough hours.

Studying is important but

when there are urgent matters...

Rather than studying a few more words,

I feel that it's better to help someone

and see them get better.

So I sometimes skip class.

I'm not a good student.

Mr. Sudamma. This is important too.

Studying Korean...

Also, permanent residence.

Apply again in May.

Okay. Thank you.

- Good-bye. / - Good-bye.

Oh, no. Then this will delay

him from getting permanent residence.

Is that alright?

Well...

It's sad but...

I have no choice.

That night.

40 years old.

Oh, no.

How think...

Monk Githi must be studying.

- How it looks. / - How it looks.

Like a cat...

Catching a mouse.

(This is terrible)

Monk Sudamma is truly amazing.

He takes care of Monk Githi in this situation.

(Monk Sudamma is teaching Monk Githi...)

Like catching a mouse.

It's very difficult.

His handwriting is really good though.

I think if we give him time, he'll get better.

I think he'll be better than me.

Well, they say, "Time heals all wounds."

I hope that really happens.

(The next day)

The morning Buddhist service has finished.

(Could it be?)

Oh, someone is here.

Could it be...

Monk Sudamma!

Oh, the head monk is back!

How have you been, Monk Githi?

Yes.

How was everything? Any difficulties

while I was gone?

The morning service was fine

and we finished hanging the lanterns.

Monk Githi did something to.

He was busy adjusting.

Monk Sudamma is so reliable.

He's good even when I'm not here.

I might have to make him the head monk.

Thank you so much.

(Suncheon, Jeollanam-do)

After thinking hard about

what to do for the two monks who worked hard...

The head monk prepared something special.

This is an old temple built during

the Silla Dynasty. It's Songgwangsa.

Many amazing monks are from here,

befitting its nickname of "The teacher of the country."

(The head monk became a monk here too)

This is spring water.

If you drink this, they say you reach nirvana.

(This is precious)

The two monks are always at the small temple in the city.

The head monk felt bad about that.

Oh, it's sweet.

So he wanted to teach them about

the traditional Korean temple culture.

You use this mortar...

Put beans here and...

(A mortar used by ascetics in the past)

The one in Sri Lanka is really long.

- Long? / - Yes, and you use it like this.

(Monk Sudamma is very enthusiastic)

(Interested)

Monk Githi, this isn't hard, right?

Put love into it.

(Like this?)

(Monk Githi is feeling good)

I think his cold has gone away here.

The last thing to do at this mountain temple is...

(Evening Buddhist service at Songgwangsa)

(Praying with Korean monks in one voice)

To practice asceticism

is to realize something day by day.

(Thinking of Buddha's teachings)

Then what did Monk Sudamma realize

at this very moment?

An animal is born as an animal.

A man is born as a man.

Men could do many good deeds

and live happy lives.

But there are many people

who don't look for that happiness.

"I must help others

to get help from others as well."

I hope people lead happy lives with that thought.

After being at the mountain temple

we are going back to the city.

Let's work hard for the migrant worker.

Yes.

Yes.

(My Neighbor, Charles)

Managing the temple, looking after the foreign workers.

He's so busy.

- Too busy. / - So busy.

His day is just so busy.

But!

There is someone who watched over him

until he became a diligent monk.

- The head monk. / - Hello, sir.

Welcome, Monk Doje.

Thank you.

Sir, I heard that at first,

Monk Sudamma was amazingly lazy.

What is that about?

He always missed the Buddhist services.

He didn't come out even when I knocked on his door.

I almost gave up on him.

But I tried my best to be patient.

Since Korean culture and

Sri Lankan culture is different,

I thought he'd get better when he gets used to it.

And that has been 7 years already.

Because of the weather, I kept catching a cold

and I was sick for one to two months.

You don't know...

How amazing hair is

to keep you warm.

You can relate to them.

As for me,

all the heat goes out from here.

And it must've been the first time to spend winter

in Korea since he's from Sri Lanka.

Right?

It seems like Monk Sudamma has a serious concern.

Let's find out what his concern is.

(I need more time)

"I need more time" is his concern.

Do you need more time to adjust?

Well, I think for foreigners,

they need a lot of time to adjust

and get used to in terms of culture.

I think that's the most important part.

I heard that there are many problems

that result from not giving the migrant workers enough

time to adjust to their lives in Korea.

Can you give us some examples?

Many problems arise in the fishing industry.

- Going out to the sea... / - Yes.

And catching fish.

There are many who get hurt

as they begin working as soon as they come to Korea.

One of the toughest events was...

This person passed away from drowning.

And the company said they can't

give them compensation if they don't settle this matter.

So the parents couldn't do anything in Sri Lanka

but wait for their son's body.

That must feel terrible.

They had to just sit and watch.

I felt terribly sorry at that time.

I even thought of sending them money

if I had the money.

There isn't any one to help.

So that's the purpose of

the welfare center you're building right now.

It's in the process right now.

A welfare center in Sri Lanka...

The process is very slow though.

You have a big plan

and I think you need a lot of time for that.

I think that it will work out well

and I'm not in a rush.

Why not?

Monk Sudamma.

I think you should wake up at 2 in the morning

and build the center.

I went to Sri Lanka for a volunteer work in 2012.

I saw blind people selling brooms they made

to manage a welfare center.

I felt so bad.

Seeing Monk Sudamma how

he helps the people in need

and is powered by his motivation,

I feel so proud of him.

You are doing something really nice

like building a welfare center.

It'd be better if you do it with other people.

It will quicken the process as well.

People who have the same thoughts

as you will support you.

Yes.

I'm sure many people will watch this

and give you a call.

Thank you.

Monk Doje.

Hold his hand.

Like you're talking to a son.

Tell him that he's working hard.

I didn't expect him to live with me

for so long.

It's just a small temple in a residential area.

The environment is poor

but he's doing great and

he has never complained.

I'm just so thankful.

Sometimes, I wish he wouldn't leave.

I wish he would stay here forever.

Thank you.

Anyways, I'm always so thankful.

Being together and doing many things

with the head monk,

I learned a lot of things.

Despite his age, he tries really hard.

I think that he's trying and working hard.

I consider him as my master.

It isn't just a simple holiday today, is it?

It isn't just a holiday for you to have fun.

I will study hard.

It feels different now.

Being here today with Monk Sudamma and Monk Doje

who follow Buddha's teachings,

we learned a lot of things

and it's time to wrap up the show.

When you see someone in need,

especially migrant workers...

I hope you greet them warmly

and shake their hands.

I hope today becomes that kind of day.

Thank you for being here today with us.

- Thank you. / - Thank you.

That's it for My Neighbor, Charles today.

- Good-bye. / - Good-bye.

Good-bye!

Astrology Forecast And Planetary Influences For June 2018 - Duration: 4:19.

Astrology Forecast And Planetary Influences For June 2018

May brought many shifts including Uranus entering Taurus for the first time in 84 years, but

moving into June, things are going to settle and we are going to be able to slow down and

catch our breath.

For the first week of June, we are still going to be feeling the Sagittarius Full Moon.

This Full Moon is going to be guiding us to think bigger and to start focusing on what

we need to upgrade in our lives.

Communication is also going to be a theme, especially during the first half of the month,

and we may feel guided to really express our true feelings and ideas, or start a creative

project of some kind.

This energy will be further amplified by the Gemini New Moon on the 13th.

This New Moon is going to be the perfect time to take action and to get things done.

This is especially true as by the end of the month the energy in the cosmos is going to

slow down.

The Solstice then follows on June 21st, signaling the official start of Summer in the Northern

Hemisphere and the official start of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

This shift in seasons is going to help guide us as to where our energy needs to be.

For those starting summer it is a time to really relax, unwind and enjoy the extended

daylight hours, and for those starting winter, it is a time to rest, relax and to conserve

energy.

Following the Solstice, the most significant event of the month occurs on June 26th with

Mars going retrograde until the end of August.

As the planet of action and energy, when Mars goes retrograde we really feel guided to slow

down and to think before acting.

We may also feel a bit more sluggish than usual, but this is just a reminder that we

need to rest and reflect before moving forward.

During this retrograde period, we may have to go back over things and assess how our

actions have been serving us or not.

We may also feel guided to change how we have been acting or our approach to things.

By the end of June, we will have a total of 5 planets in retrograde, including Jupiter,

Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, and Mars, making the energy in the cosmos very slow and deliberate.

constello-bracelet This slow retrograde energy is going to continue

until August, and at one point we will have a total of six planets in retrograde.

So much retrograde energy can feel intense, and we may be encouraged to focus or look

on one particular area of our lives with great detail.

The month comes to an end with the Capricorn Full Moon on the 27th.

This is a quite a powerful Full Moon and is going to be preparing us for the Eclipses

that come in July.

Think of June like a bridge month between all of the shifts that May brought and all

of the changes that Eclipse season in July is going to bring.

While Julys Eclipses are gentler than most and bring some amazing gifts and rewards,

there is still going to be the need for more change and shifts.

As we reach the midway point in this number 11 year, we have to remember that this is

really an opportunity for all of us to keep awakening, keep growing and keep transcending

into higher realms of consciousness.

In order to do this, we need to be pressed a little, we need to be challenged a little,

we need to be encouraged to find our power and unlock our gifts.

June is a beautiful month of stability, creativity, and self-expression, and if you make peace

with yourself, take some time out for self-love and self-care, you are going to feel in sync

and in harmony with the retrogrades and Eclipses on the way.
