Hi, this is Torsten from dein-dlrp.de - today I want to take you to Disney's Hotel Cheyenne. So, let's go!
Disney's Hotel Cheyenne offers 1000 rooms. It is located on the banks of the Rio Grande and looks like one of many Wild West towns from the 19th century.
However, the theming is not actually that of a small town in the Wild West, but that of a movie set of one of the classic western movies of the 60s and 70s.
You could expect Clinton Eastwood, Robert Mitchum, and John Wayne to ride around a corner every other second.
Unlike a true Wild West town, which mostly consisted of a long, wide-escaped road, overlooking the vast prairie beyond, Hotel Cheyenne wasn't built that straight,
just like it was done in Hollywood movie sets to hide the backstage areas.
While most Wild West towns had an hotel at the center of the town, just like Wild West movies for their central scenes, too, here the whole city is an hotel.
At the central village square you'll find the major hotel facilities: the General Store, the Red Garter Saloon, the Chuck Wagon Café and a Starbucks as well.
Hotel Cheyenne opened in 1992 with the rest of the resort. Since then, some renovations have been made, staying true to the original concept and appearance.
The original sandy paths however have been paved and the main road was bituminized in early 2018.
The rooms were updated, too. Originally they were rustic, now they have a subtle Toy Story theming with Woody & Jessie on wallpapers and pictures.
Robert Stern, is one of the most famous architects of the 20th century. He has been awarded numerous prizes for his work, most of which is located in the USA.
Hotel Cheyenne is considered one of his most important works. Robert Stern is the only architect who designed two of the hotels in Disneyland Paris.
He also designed Disney's Newport Bay Club - a hotel in the style of the seaside resorts on the coast of New England, of which we will soon publish a video, too.
Robert Stern himself said about Hotel Cheyenne that he wanted to bring the mood and atmosphere of the great western movies to life. He surely did!
His collaboration with Disney did not begin with DLP. He designed Yacht and Beach Club at Walt Disney World and was working on the Celebration community, too.
The source of the Rio Grande, which separates Hotels Cheyenne & Santa Fe, continues through the wilderness at the Sequioa Lodge and leads into Lake Disney.
There is no direct connection of Hotel Cheyenne to the Rio Grande, which has its source in Colorado, way south from Hotel Cheyenne according to its theme.
However, Santa Fe, which gave name and theme to the neighboring hotel, is not too far from the Rio Grande which flows through all of New Mexico before further south marking the border between the US and Mexico.
Between the buildings named after Wild Bill Hickok and Butch Cassidy there is a path that leads to this garden.
The garden was opened parallel to Ratatouille, because Remy grows vegetables and herbs here, which are used in the kitchen of his bistro.
The herbs such as chives, borage etc. are not only growing here for decoration, but are really used, as well as the vegetables.
The flowers that bloom here serve bees and other insects as a source of food and are designed to promote biodiversity.
Three flags are blowing on the masts on the village square: France, USA and Wyoming. First and second are self-explanatory. But what about the flag of Wyoming?
The capital of Wyoming state is called Cheyenne. In addition, Wyoming is the state that embodies the Wild West like no other.
The vast plains in front of the Rocky Mountains were once roamed by huge herds of buffalo. Many native-american tribes including the Crow, Shoshone, Arapaho, Ute and also the Cheyenne had tribal areas here.
In the 19th century cowboys came to this region. These herdsmen, who often did not life an easy life, were romanticized towards the end of the 19th century.
At the mention of "Cowboy" everyone pictures a young, handsome man with hat, revolver or lasso on a horse.
This romanticized image of the heroes of the Wild West was promoted by, among others, Buffalo Bill and his show.
Each building of Hotel Cheyenne bears the name of a famous figure of the Wild West such as:
Annie Oakley, a sharpshooter from Ohio, made famous by appearances in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.
Billy the Kid, one of the most legendary western-heroes, probably the best-known gunslinger and gangster of the Wild West.
Butch Cassidy, a bank and railroad robber who was leader of the "Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch" gang.
Calamity Jane, a true Wild West heroine who tried herself, among other things, as a stagecoach driver, saloon lady and gold digger.
Cochise, who was a chief of the Chokonen, a group of Chiricahua-Apaches, whose name meant "hardwood".
Doc Holliday, a famous-infamous gunfighter who originally worked as a dentist.
Geronimo, the chief and shaman of the Bedonkohe-Apache, another group of the Chiricahua-Apaches, who became best known for his fierce resistance against the US-troops.
Jesse James, one of the most famous bandits of the Wild West, to which countless legends entwine.
Sitting Bull, probably the most famous chief and medicine man of the Sioux, best known for the Battle of the Little Bighorn, where he beat US cavalry.
Sundance Kid, an outlaw from the Wild West who was traveling with Butch Cassidy, among others.
Wild Bill Hickok, often called Wild Bill only, a gunfighter who was known for his wild shootouts.
Wyatt Earp, who held pretty much all the classic roles of the Wild West: gunslinger, gambler, saloon owner, miner, farmer, transporter, buffalo hunter, and lawman.
Of course, he was especially well-known for the shootout at the O.K. Corral
Fort Apache was a children's playground located just outside the Wild West town on the shores of the Rio Grande.
While fort and the tepees are still there, they unfortunately do not offer much entertainment value anymmore, since the playground is closed since several years.
The self-service-laundry has several washers and dryers - and is the only one at Disneyland Paris.
So, if a mishap happens, like pouring coffee over the only jeans you have with you - what is, by the way, my specialty - you can wash your clothes here. Coins are available at the reception.
You will also find snack and beverage vending machines here as well as an ice machine, so if you get cravings for chips or chocolate at night, you can appease them here.
After strolling all the exterior of the hotel it's now time to take a look inside and to introduce you to all its offerings.
At the reception you can check in 24/7 and collect your tickets etc. Your room is usually available from 3 pm.
At the concierge desk you can book restaurants, buy tickets for the Buffalo Bill's Show, arrange trips to Paris and much more.
Little Sherrifs is a small play area for children. Here they can watch Disney films or TV series, or paint pictures with the provided painting utensils as a little pastime for example while the parents are waiting at the reception.
The General Store, the central shop in any Wild West town, is the focal point for all souvenir hunters, but you will also find sweets, chips and drinks here.
There are also postcards and stamps on sale, if you like to send greetings to your loved ones at home in the old-fashioned way.
Chuck Wagon Cafe is an open buffet restaurant in the evening. Here you can redeem your half board vouchers or just go out to dinner.
There is an all you can eat buffet on offer with various BBQ dishes as well as international and French dishes.
You may not only enjoy your meal in one of the giant covered wagons here, but the buffet-stations are also themed like wagon castle. Atmospherically one of the most best buffets in Disneyland Paris.
By the way, not only dinner is served here, but also the breakfast buffet from 7 am to 11 am.
Red Garter Saloon is the bar of Hotel Cheyenne. Here you can enjoy a beer or a cocktail daily from 4:30 pm to 1 am. On some days live music is performed in the bar.
Looking for a small breakfast, a sweet snack in the afternoon or a dose of caffeine? Then you are in the right place at Starbucks.
Starbucks is open from 7 am to 11 pm. Its located in space of the hotels former Game Arcade by the way.
Shuttle buses to the parks are running from the hotel's bus stop. To walk is the better alternative in our opinion though. You can leisurely walk the nice route along Rio Grande, Lake Disney and Disney Village in 15-20 minutes.
That closes our little tour of Hotel Cheyenne- We hope you enjoyed it.
We will post more hotel tours in the weeks to come. So don't forget to subscribe to our channel and to hit the red notification button, to avoid missing any of them.
