Hey everybody, it's Maddie Sofia

from NPR and Joe's Big Idea,

and we are here at the Smithsonian Conservation

Biology Institute

finding out what it takes

to save the maned wolf.

Known for the characteristic mane on their necks,

the maned wolf of South America is nearly endangered.

This is Dr. Nucharin Songsasen.

She's an expert in the reproductive biology

of maned wolves here in Front Royal, Va.

Maddie: What's the deal with maned wolves?

Nuch: Oh, my God, they are so cool!

You know we call them fox on stilts.

Maddie: Fox on stilts!

Nuch: People call them wolves,

but they're not really wolves.

When you're looking at the canid family

they're a very unique species.

We estimate there's about 20,000 of them left,

mostly living in the grassland habitat in Brazil.

But the reason that we need to

start paying attention to this guy now

is because their habitat is gone.

Eighty percent of these grassland

already disappeared.

Maddie: Wow.

Nuch: And only 5 percent of those natural habitat

that's remaining is protected.

Maddie: That's where Nuch comes in.

She's breeding an insurance, or backup population

of maned wolves that can be reintroduced

to their natural habitat if the wild populations die off.

Maddie: What is your favorite thing

about the maned wolf?

Nuch: Ha-ha-ha, the smell.

Maddie: For our viewers at home,

it is not a good smell.

Nuch: It is a good smell.

Maddie: It smells like skunks.

Nuch: Well a little bit.

Maddie: When you were growing up,

did you think you were going to be a scientist?

Nuch: I grew up in Bangkok, Thailand.

When I was a little girl I want to be a veterinarian,

'cause my father also a veterinarian.

So I want to save animals;

I want to work with animals.

Then when I went to vet school,

I said, "Oh, I want to be a scientist, too."

Merging the two worlds that I love.

Maddie: You want a meatball?

Fish?

You want a grape?

What do you want?

So I just launch it in her direction?

OK, varsity softball.

Maddie: So Nuch,

Nuch: Yes.

Maddie: This is where the reproductive magic happens.

This is your lab.

Nuch: Yes, this is the place.

This is the place, yes.

Maddie: Have you developed wolf Tinder?

What's going on?

Nuch: For the matchmaking aspect,

so what we have is we have a list of male wolves and

female wolves that will have their value that's attached

to them based on their genetics.

Maddie: They have a value?

Nuch: Yeah.

Maddie: These values are based on how

genetically different,

or unrelated, the wolf is to other wolves.

The less related they are, the better.

That's because genetic diversity in a population

helps a species survive.

Remember our buddies Fin and Arvara?

Nuch considered their genetics as well as

their age and health to match them up.

But breeding maned wolves isn't as easy as

just putting two wolves together.

Nuch: They are seasonal breeders,

meaning that they only breed a certain time of the year

and then one time they only have two to three days

that they will breed a year.

Maddie: Wow.

That makes it hard for you

to help build an insurance population.

Nuch: I know that's why we need to develop

multiple tools that we can use to,

you know, all sorts of situations.

Maddie: Have you tried like playing Boyz II Men softly?

Maybe a bottle of wine?

You add some skunk smell around.

You know, maybe Fin needs a haircut?

You know, you ever thought about that?

That's why Nuch and her team

are trying to develop new techniques

to help breed maned wolves.

Nuch's lab collaborated with Cornell University

to perform the first successful in vitro fertilization

in domestic dogs.

Nuch even adopted one of the IVF puppies.

Now, they are trying to adapt IVF techniques

for the maned wolf.

But until then, we'll just have to rely

on the whims of romance.

Adam: Hey Maddie!

Maddie: Oh hey Adam!

Adam: What was the favorite thing that you learned

while making this video?

Maddie: Oh the glitter poop.

Adam: Glitter poop?

Maddie: Yeah, so to determine the digestive health

of all these different wolves,

they put different color glitter in their food bowls.

Adam: Oh, okay.

Maddie: So when they poop it's glittery,

and they're like oh Fin has blue poop.

Adam: Okay. Well that's the kind of sparkly fact

that you can learn from Skunk Bear,

Alden Ehrenreich in the 'Han Solo' Hot Seat 🔥 🔥 🔥 | MTV News - Duration: 2:58.

- Can I ask you a question, Captain Calrissian?

- Anything, "Hann."

- It's "Honn," but that's okay.

- "Honn" or "Hann?"

What is the---

- "Hawn."

Well, George says "Hann,"

Lando obviously says "Hann,"

Leia says "Hann" and "Honn,"

but Harrison Ford says "Honn."

It's not like in the first half of my life

I said "Owl-den" and now I say "All-den,"

so, you know.

You stick with that. - Okay.

- Same is true of "Fawl-con." - Okay.

Did "Honn" or "Hann" Solo, uh--

(together) Shoot first?

- Yes.

- [Josh] Without a doubt.

- Yeah, without a doubt.

It's just who he is, it's what he would do.

- [Alden] Yeah, for sure.

- Han, a scoundrel or a heart of gold at the heart of it?

- I think both.

I think one thing that's fun about the character

is that there's so many things.

We all sort of think of him

as this swashbuckling, swaggery cowboy,

and yet you look at the scenes with Leia

and he's pretty insecure.

- [Josh] Right.

- [Alden] There's a lot of dimension,

I think that's what makes it.

He's the most human, in a way.

- What does the inside of a Tauntaun smell like?

- I don't know.

I have no idea, but not good.

(laughing)

- Apparently, by all accounts! - I imagine!

Chewy, incidentally, smells great

because they wash those suits

in shampoo and conditioner, the yak hair suits,

so he actually smells really good.

- Oh, that's beautiful! - Yeah, yeah.

- Who is cooler at the end of the day, Han or Lando?

- It depends on what part of the moment

you're, you know, you're looking at, right?

So in this movie, Han's still cutting his teeth, in a way.

- So right now Lando has a bit of an advantage?

- Probably, yeah, probably.

But, then, some stuff happens over the course of this film

that I think might change that,

and then also, you know,

later on, like in "Empire,"

Lando's like not the most reliable,

Lando does some pretty uncool stuff.

(laughing)

So, you know, yeah.

- What about Donald or Alden, who's cooler?

- [Alden] Donald!

Yeah.

(laughing)

Yeah, yeah.

- Do you have a secret musical career, by the way?

- I don't.

- You don't have an alter ego like Childish Gambino?

- No, no, no, no, not at all.

- Is a parsec a unit of time? - No.

- Or a unit of distance?

- A unit of distance. - Definitively?

- Definitively. - Okay.

- Yeah, it a unit of distance.

So making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs is,

it's been a minute, so let me remember this,

but it's basically,

it's about navigating the shortest possible route.

So, in the same sense that you fly a plane

and you figure out what your route is,

you navigate the shortest possible route

from where you are to where you wanna go,

and only certain pilots can navigate certain routes.

- Got it.

- So, in other words, we can make a really short route,

but most pilots wouldn't be able to make it through

the things that are in your way on that route,

so that's what it is.

- Thought we were in trouble there for a second,

but it's fine.

We're fine.

- Whoa!

Blockchains: how can they be used? - Duration: 7:08.

So, you heard about blockchain, gone on the internet and read a few articles or watched

a few videos to figure out how it works.

Now that you understand that, you're still confused…

How can this this technology be used in the real world?

Well let's take a look at a few examples but before we do that, let's quickly recap

what a blockchain is.

In simple terms, it's a distributed database that everyone can get a copy of.

Every person with a copy can add new records to this database but cannot change any record

once it's in there.

This property makes a blockchain great to record data in a transparent way because everyone

gets to see what's in it.

So how can it be used?

Well in this video I'll give you 9 examples.

Let's start with the most obvious and most popular application of blockchains and that

is cryptocurrencies.

When Bitcoin launched in 2008 it allowed people to directly transact with one another without

having to trust third parties like banks.

Since then over 1600 different cryptocurrencies have been created.

But let's look beyond cryptocurrencies.

Let's look at how blockchain technology can be used in… cars for example.

Ever heard of odometer fraud?

By tampering with the odometer someone can make a car appear to be newer and less worn

out, resulting in customers paying more then what the car is actually worth.

The government tries to counter this by collecting the milage of cars when they get a safety

inspection but that's not enough.

So instead we could replace regular odometers with smart ones that are connected to the

internet and frequently write the cars milage to a blockchain.

This would create a secure and digital certificate for each car.

And because we use a blockchain, no one can tamper with the data and everyone can lookup

a vehicle's history.

In fact, this is already being developed by Bosch's IoT lab and they are currently testing

it on a fleet of 100 cars in Germany and Switzerland.

So blockchains are great at keeping track of things over time.

So besides odometers, you can also keep track of things like intellectual property or patents

or it can even function as a notary.

See, a notary is someone who can confirm and verify signatures on legal documents.

But we can just as well use a blockchain for it!

The online website stampd.io for instance, allows you to add documents to the Bitcoin

or Ethereum blockchain.

Once added, you can always prove that you created a document at a certain point in time

much like a notary although right now blockchains aren't on the same level as notaries in

a legal perspective.

Another interesting application is digital voting.

Right now voting happens either on paper or on special computers that are running proprietary

software.

Voting on paper costs a lot of money and electronic voting has security issues.

In recent years we've even seen countries move away from digital voting and adopting

paper again because they fear that electronic votes can be tampered with and influenced

by hackers.

But instead of paper, we could use blockchains to cast and store votes.

Such a system would be very transparent as everyone could verify the voting count for

themselves and it would make tampering with it very difficult.

The Swiss company Agora is already working on such a system and it's going to be completely

open source.

But there are many challenges.

First, you have to be able to identify voters without compromising their privacy.

Secondly, if you allow people to vote with their own computers or phone, you have to

take into account that those might be infected with malware designed to tamper with the voting

process.

And a final example: a system like this also has to be able to withstand denial-of-service

attacks because that could render the whole thing unusable.

Definitely, a tough nut to crack but if it becomes reality it could make for a more transparent

and practical voting system.

Let's move to yet another example: The food industry!

They could use blockchain technology to track their food products from the moment they are

harvested or made, to when they end up in the hands of customers.

See every year almost half a million people (420,000) die because of food-borne diseases

and that's partially because it takes too long to isolate the food that is causing harm.

Blockchains could help us to create a digital certificate for each piece of food, proving

where it came from and where it has been.

So if a contamination is detected, we can trace it back to its root and instantly notify

other people who bought the same batch of bad food.

Walmart and IBM are currently working on such a system.

It allowed them to trace the origin of a box of mangoes in just 2 seconds, compared to

days or weeks with a traditional system.

A system like this could be applied to other industries as well.

We could use it to track regular products and battle counterfeit goods by allowing anyone

to verify whether or not the product comes from the manufacturer you think it does.

Another idea would be to track packages and shipments by using a blockchain.

That is something that IBM and container shipping giant Maersk are working on: a decentralized

ledger to help with making global trade of goods more efficient.

So far we looked at ways blockchains can be used to keep track of information and verify

its integrity.

But blockchains can be even more powerful when we add smart contracts to them.

These contracts are tiny computer programs that live on the blockchain and can perform

actions when certain conditions are met.

Insurance companies could use smart contracts to validate claims and calculate a payout.

Or they could allow us to only pay for car insurance when we're driving.

But it goes even further.

With smart contracts we can secure our own data on a blockchain.

They could for instance allow us to store our medical records on a blockchain and only

allow doctors to access them when we approve it with a digital signature.

In the same fashion, you could store your personal identity on there and choose what

data you want to reveal.

Ordering alcohol in a bar for instance only requires you to prove that you're over the

legal drinking age and with smart contracts, you can deliver that proof without revealing

anything else.

Or think about collecting royalties for artists.

A future streaming service could set up two smart contracts: one where users send a their

monthly subscription to and one that keeps track of what the user has listened to.

At the end of each month, the smart contract that holds the subscription fee can automatically

distribute the money to artists, based on how many times their songs have been listened

to.

So as you can see, blockchain technology can be used in so many different ways.

This video is just a brief overview of how they can be used and it's by no means a

complete list of all applications.

That would make for a very long video as there is so much happing in this space.

Let me know in the comments below what your favorite application of blockchain technology

is and if you found this video interesting, consider getting subscribed.

Thank you very much for watching and I hope to see you in the next video!

Love entraps my heart... Even when I count the lonely nights

You, who once smiled, are no longer here...

10 Signs Your Body Gives You That Indicate Starseed Awakening - Duration: 3:16.

10 Signs Your Body Gives You That Indicate Starseed Awakening

By consciousreminder

Starseed awakening is the time frame during which the starseed finds new purpose in their

lives to complete their duties in this world.

These are the physical implications that suggest starseed awakening.

Physical Signs Disorientation

With the multiple rush of energies zooming through your body, it might make you feel

queasy and unstable.

Weird aches The energy flowing through actually activates

the different parts of your body, mainly the kundalini energy which makes you realise the

various pains that were hidden inside.

Waking up really early daily Starseeds are said to be most spiritually

powered in early mornings which means they often wake up at 3am, when the strength of

the energies is highest.

Sudden heavy slumber When youre having periods of deep sleep

it suggests that you are working towards your spiritual goals.

When youre dreaming, youre most active in your duty, and so once you wake up it almost

feels like youve woken up after years.

Emotionally stressful dreams As time passes, youll probably feel that

your dreams are progressively becoming more and more dramatic, with rising intensity.

They would appear to be very realistic.

These experiences help you prepare for the mission you are about to begin, making your

body get used to the hardships that are to follow.

Heightened senses With the rush of energies, your body vibration

increases, impacting the third eye chakra and changing how you perceive your surroundings.

Since youre still transforming, the energies dont stabilize completely, which makes

you sensitive to light, temperature and sound.

Spasms As your physical and spiritual selves combine,

your body cells vibrate which results in slight electric shocks in your nerves, causing spasms.

Anxiety attacks With all these rapid changes, you often feel

anxious and depressed.

The vibrations activate the root chakra which causes uneasiness and anxiety in you.

Signs of flu As the energies in the three upper chakras

are increased, you might experience flu-like conditions for some time.

Its strange because sometimes it gets really serious but medical check-ups dont show

any results.

Temperament These changes really impact the body physically

and mentally, causing stress and mood swings.

Hardships make you feel down whereas spiritual elevation gives you joy.

Top 10 Creepy Last Meal Requests - Part 2 - Duration: 10:03.

Welcome back to Most Amazing Top 10 - today we revisit a video that was creepy and interesting

in equal measure.

You guys seemed very intrigued by what the last chose meals were of people who were about

to be executed - many of them on death row.

Here are some more examples for you today - my name is Danny Burke and this is the Top

10 Creepy Last Meal Requests - Part 2

Starting off at number 10 we have Ted Bundy.

He was an American serial killer, kidnapper and rapist who killed numerous young women

and girls during the 1970s.

After a decade of denying the majority of the killings, he confessed to 30 murders but

the true victim count is unknown and could be much higher.

Attorney Polly Nelson once said of him -Ted was the very definition of heartless evil-

… he was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison on January 24th 1989.

He declined a special meal and so the prison officers gave him the traditional last meal

- steak cooked medium rare, eggs over easy, hash browns, toast with butter and jelly,

milk and juice.

Next up at number 9 we have John Wayne Gacy.

He was one of Americas most notorious serial killers who sexually assaulted, tortured and

murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men in the 1970s.

During his trial, he became known as the Killer Clown because of his part time work as a Pogo

the clown at childrens parties.

He was sentenced to death in 1980 for 12 of those killings, spending 14 years on death

row.

He was executed by lethal injection in 1994 at the age of 52.

For his least meal.

Gacy requested 12 fried shrimp, a bucket of original recipe KFC, french fries and a pound

of strawberries.

At one point, he was manager of a KFC store.

Moving on to number 8 we have Allen Lee Davis.

This American mass murderer killed a pregnant mother and her 2 young children.

He was executed in Florida on July 8th 1999 by electric chair.

He was the last Florita inmate to be executed this way, everything since has been lethal

injection.

For his last meal, he requested lobster tail, fried potatoes, half a pound of fried shrimp,

six ounces of fried clams, half a loaf of garlic bread and 32 ounces of A&W root beer.

Next up at number 7 we have Stephen Anderson.

He was was an American murderer who worked as a contract killer in Las Vegas in the 1970s.

He was arrested and sentenced to death for the killing of 81 year old Elizabeth Lyman

whos house he was robbing.

He covered her body with a blanket and then made himself a meal in her kitchen.

A suspicious neighbor called the sheriffs department and while he was eating and watching

TV, deputies responded to the call and arrested him.

He was on death row for over 20 years before being killed by lethal injection in 2002.

For his last meal, Anderson requested two grilled cheese sandwiches, a pint of cottage

cheese, a hominy corn mixture, peach pie, chocolate chip ice cream and radishes.

Next up at number 6 we have Sacco and Vanzetti.

These two men stand out on our list as actually being wrongly convicted of murder.

They were sentenced to death for the murders of a guard and paymaster in 1920 during an

armed robbery of a shoe company in Massachusetts.

They were executed by electric chair on August 23rd 1927.

50 years later, Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation that they had

been unfairly tried and convicted.

For their last meals, the two men requested soup, tea, meat and toast.

Moving on to number 5 we have Steven Woods.

He was an American murderer who was sentenced to death for Bethena Brosz and drug dealer

Ronald Whitehead.

While on death row, he drew media attention by petitioning for prisoners rights and was

part of a hunger strike to oppose death row inmates treatment.

He was executed on September 13th 2011 by lethal injection.

For his last meal, he requested two pounds of bacon, a large 4 meat pizza, 4 fried chicken

breasts, 2 mountain dew drinks, some root beer, sweet tea, 2 pints of ice cream, 5 chicken

fried stakes, 2 hamburgers with bacon, fries and 12 garlic bread sticks with marinara on

the side.

I coldnt find anything that said he finished all of that food.

At number 4 now we have Timothy McVeigh.

He was a terrorist responsible for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing which killed 168 people

and injured over 680 others.

It was the deadliest act of terrorism within the US before 9/11 and is still the deadliest

act of domestic terrorism.

He said it was an attack on the US government which he saw as tyrannical.

He was sentenced to death and was executed in Indiana on June 11th 2001 at the age of

33.

For his last meal, he requested two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Next up at number 3 we have Teresa Lewis.

She was an American murderer and the only woman on death row in Virginia prior to her

execution.

She was murdered her husband and stepson in October 2002 after seeking to profit from

their 250,000 dollar life insurance policy.

She was executed in 2010 by lethal injection at the age of 41.

For her last meal, she requested friend chicken, peas with butter, apple pie and a can of Dr

Pepper.

Moving on to number 2 we have Ronnie Lee Gardner.

This Utah murderer killed Melyvn John Otterstrom during a robbery in Salt Lake City in 1985.

While being taken to a court hearing, he shot and killed Michael Burdell in an unsuccessful

escape attempt.

For that murder, he was handed the death penalty.

His case got a lot of media attention because Gardner requested death by firing squad - the

first in 14 years.

For his last meal, he asked for steak, a lobster tail, apple pie, vanilla ice cream and to

eat it all while watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

And finally at number 1 we have Ronnie Threadgill.

This American murderer shot and killed Dexter McDonald while robbing his car in Texas on

April 14th 2001.

He was on death row until 2013 when he was executed by lethal injection.

For his last meal, he requested baked chicken, mashed potatoes with country gravy, vegetables,

sweet peas, bread, tea, water and punch.

However, Texas actually abolished the right to have a last meal so Threadgill was given

the same meal as everyone else.

That video was a little but disturbing to research - made my stomach feel weird at times

- Im sure many of you guys know what I mean - but it is interesting.

I know a lot of you guys do like a lot of our crime or prison videos so what would you

like to see in our next video?

Thanks for watching as always guys, my name is

Danny Burke and Ill see you all in the next video.

Kitchen Appliances That Are Trying To Kill You - Duration: 6:50.

Hot pans.

Sharp knives.

The always-terrifying mandoline.

Navigating the kitchen can sometimes feel like running a gauntlet of dangerous obstacles.

Lurking in every corner is a contraption just waiting to maim you in its own unique way,

leaving you running for some Neosporin and a bandaid - or sending you straight to the

emergency room.

Strap on your exploding NutriBullet-proof goggles and prep your palate for a taste of

the creepy-crawlies living in your Instant Pot - these are some of the kitchen appliances

at the frontlines of the anti-human revolution.

"Kill all humans.

Kill all humans.

Must kill all…"

"Bender, Wake up!"

Keurig machines

If you're like most people, your daily routine probably involves topping off the water that's

been chilling in the reservoir since you bought your trusty Keurig, popping in your K-cup,

and enjoying your cup of joe minutes later.

Chances are you probably don't take the time to clean the machine on the reg.

Let's be honest - you probably never clean it.

But your coffee tastes just as delicious as it always has, so what's the risk?

"You have no idea."

Well, Mold, to start.

And bacteria.

And yeast.

And, you know… roaches.

"Single-serve coffee brewers can be crawling with things that can make you sick."

That's right.

Everyone's least favorite disease-carrying insect could be making their home inside your

coffee maker.

It's the perfect environment for cockroaches who love the dark, warm, and damp environment

of the machine's water tank, which also happens to be the same environment mold, bacteria,

and yeast prefer.

So what do you do?

Before you chuck the whole thing, there's good news: You can rectify all these disgusting

situations by simply cleaning and disinfecting the machine regularly.

It might a pain, but at least your morning cup will be roach-free.

Immersion blenders

Nobody can argue the handiness of an immersion blender.

They save you the time of dragging out the big blender, and let you whiz up your condiments,

soups, and even smoothies right in their own pot.

Another plus?

They're super easy to clean… unless you forget to unplug it first.

The New York Times reported countless stories of home cooks slicing and dicing their fingers

while trying to dislodge food from the blades of their immersion blenders, and that's because

the power button has something of a hair trigger.

It's just a little too easy to turn it on while handling it - and if it's plugged in,

you're in trouble.

According to Consumer Reports, in 2015,

"More than 9,600 injuries occurred involving blenders.

Immersion blenders are great [...] but recent reports show that injuries are growing with

the use of those small appliances."

Yikes.

So, we guess the takeaway from this one is: Don't touch the blades if the machine is running

or plugged in.

"Duh-doyyy!"

Toasters

As if roaches in your Keurig weren't enough, you've got to worry about your toaster now,

too.

Hey, cockroaches have to eat, and what better place than that bottom tray where a three-course

meal of crumbs resides?

That tray is a common hiding place for those little buggers.

Keeping 'em away means cleaning your toaster and ensuring it's free of crumbs.

"But that's not all."

Toasters are a fire hazard, too.

Consumer Affairs reports that the small appliance has a history of catching fire, due to both

mechanical failure and an accumulation of crumbs in the bottom.

They recommend keeping it clean, and unplugging it when not in use, just to be safe.

And remember, if your toaster does catch fire, use a fire extinguisher, not water, or you

risk being shocked.

Slow cookers

Thanks to This Is Us, you might already be a little hesitant about plugging in the slow

cooker.

In the now infamous scene, a faulty Crock-Pot caught fire, burned down the Pearson house,

and led to Jack's death.

It also caused the masses to question the safety of their once favorite appliance.

"So, why is the episode causing a social media firestorm?

Some viewers are actually throwing out their crockpots, fearing they too will erupt in

flame."

Crock-Pot quickly released a statement ensuring consumers that there was nothing to worry

about, and that a faulty switch as portrayed in the show could not cause the unit to spontaneously

combust.

But - there's always a but, isn't there?

- there are other ways your slow cooker might pose a danger.

Frayed or broken cord?

That's a short circuit waiting to happen.

Aside from potential fire hazards, an old slow cooker might not heat properly, leaving

your foods in the danger zone when it comes to bacteria.

According to the USDA, the temperature range of a functioning machine should be between

170 and 280 degrees.

You can check your slow cooker by filling it half full with water and running it for

eight hours on low.

If the water temperature isn't 185 degrees at that point, it won't cook your dinner safely,

and that could lead to foodborne illness.

Trash that thang.

NutriBullets

Anyone who's ever watched late-night television is familiar with the magical NutriBullet.

But beware — there's one thing the infomercial might have forgotten to mention: Besides turning

all your favorite frozen fruits and veggies into a deliciously nutritious puree, your

beloved blender might also explode on you.

Dozens of people have claimed that while properly operating their NutriBullet, the contents

inside heated to a temperature high enough to cause the container to burst off its base.

The explosion sent hot liquids flying, resulting in burns to the hands and faces of its unsuspecting

users.

"She thinks it malfunctioned."

"Things happen, unfortunately, and it's not always the user's fault."

NutriBullet denied any wrongdoing in a statement, saying,

"Reports of blenders, which have operated normally for years, suddenly turning cool

ingredients into scalding hot mixtures after less than 20 seconds of normal operation are

perplexing and contrary to the hundreds of millions of uses by satisfied NutriBullet

customers worldwide."

Regardless of who's at fault here, is any smoothie worth a potential trip to the emergency

room?

"No, no, no.

No.

HELL no!"

Instant Pots

"Say it ain't so, Joe."

Everyone's favorite electric multicooker couldn't possibly have any flaws, could it?

Buckle your seatbelts… this one's going to give you nightmares.

Like most, you've probably fallen in love with the Instant Pot.

After all, it can do just about everything.

It can make breakfast, it can make dinner, it can even make yogurt.

It can also grow maggots in its condensation collector.

Yes, really.

And if you don't know where the condensation collector is, you're probably in real trouble.

This plastic cup collects the water that runs off the lid when opened.

If it's doing its job, it's probably moist and warm and contains some bits of food.

In other words: if you aren't cleaning the condensation collector thoroughly after each

use, you're inviting maggots to come party in your kitchen.

And that larvae, if ingested, can put you at risk of parasitic infections, gastrointestinal

problems, food poisoning, and allergic reactions.

So needless to say, it's probably best to keep them out of your Instant Pot.
