Kim Jong-un serious about North Korea's complete denuclearization: Pompeo - Duration: 0:36.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he will probably travel to North Korea "before

too terribly long" to follow up on last week's historic summit between the leaders of North

Korea and the U.S. Speaking at an event in Detroit on Monday,...

Pompeo admitted a lot more work needs to be done to flesh out the details of the agreement

signed by President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Hitting back at critics of the deal,... Pompeo insisted that Kim is serious about fully denuclearizing

the North.

Two Koreas agree to host inter-Korean basketball game in Pyongyang - Duration: 2:09.

Let's begin with the latest diplomatic efforts between the two Koreas.

We had some major developments on Monday with the South and North agreeing -- during talks

at the border -- to field joint teams in various international sporting events, including at

the Asian games in August.

Park Hee-jun starts us off.

During inter-Korean sports talks held on Monday at the truce village of Panmunjom,...

South and North Korea agreed to host a series of sports events to boost inter-Korean sports

cooperation.

According to Seoul's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism,.. the two Koreas said

through a joint statement that they will host a friendly basketball game in Pyongyang.

It will take place sometime between July 3rd and July 6th to commemorate the first inter-Korean

agreement on unification that was reached on July 4th, 1972.

The two Koreas will play another game in Seoul during the fall.

This comes after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who is known to be a huge basketball fan,...

proposed holding the games during the inter-Korean summit in late April.

The two sides have also agreed to march together at the opening and closing ceremonies of the

2018 Asian Games in Jakarta in August,... under the Korean Unification Flag,... and

they'll walk in to the traditional Korean song 'Arirang.'

They will form unified teams for certain games, but they have yet to decide on what those

games will be.

The two Koreas also plan on creating combined teams for the Asian Para Games, along with

other international sport competitions.

To do so, they will coordinate with the Olympic Council of Asia and other international sports

organizations.

South and North Korea plan to sort out the details through the exchange of documents,...

and will do their best to continue the momentum of sports cooperation that was sparked earlier

this year prior to and during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

"As the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics helped start the process towards peace talks

on the Korean Peninsula,... the two Koreas are focused on carrying on that momentum to

strengthen inter-Korean ties.

And with the lineup of sports events for the two Koreas,... "sport" is expected to

play an even bigger role in their relations.

Park Hee-jun, Arirang News."

Thaw in inter-Korean relations raises hopes of Kaesong Industrial Complex reopening - Duration: 2:52.

A 17-member South Korean delegation is heading to the inter-Korean Kaesong Industrial Complex

in North Korea on this Tuesday for a two-day trip to lay the groundwork for an inter-Korean

liaison office at the site.

With the two Koreas pinpointing the shuttered joint factory park as the location for the

liaison office,... hopes are rising that it'll open again soon,... restored in its role as

a key economic bridge between Seoul and Pyongyang.

Kim Hyesung has the story.

This is an auto parts factory.

After the abrupt shutdown of the Kaesong Industrial Complex in February 2016, the company renovated

its warehouse in Incheon, west of Seoul, into a temporary factory.

The number of its employees has since been slashed to one tenth the level seen while

Kaesong was still open.

"My machinery, equipment, and data,...they're all still in North Korea.

I also lost most of my buyers.

Those contacts and trust cannot be recovered.

I'm lucky to be able to continue producing goods at this temporary factory, but I barely

make any profits now."

"It's not just Yoo Chang-geun, over 120 South Korean business owners had to leave the Kaesong

Industrial Complex, with total losses of more than 1.3 billion U.S. dollars over the last

two years."

But a recent thaw in inter-Korean relations, and a breakthrough between North Korea and

the U.S. to denuclearize the Korean peninsula are raising hopes that things may turnaround.

Every week, business owners hold special task force meetings to prepare for a possible reopening

of the industrial park.

They meet so often as reopening Kaesong would be an extremely complicated process.

It's not just UN sanctions.

The factories and equipment would need repairing ... and who pays for that remains unclear.

There's the issue of deferred wages to around 50-thousand North Korean workers.

More than 100 South Korean companies received government insurance payouts following the

shutdown, should they return it to the government when re-entering the complex... all these

legal issues would have to be sorted out."

Regardless, a survey by the Korean Federation of SMEs shows over 90 percent of South Korean

companies would be willing to go back to the Kaesong Industrial Complex if it opens again,

citing cheap labor, high productivity and its geographical location.

"For twelve years, the Kaesong Industrial Complex served as a symbol of peace between

the two Koreas.

We have survived the last two years... and now that the government is planning to set

up a joint liaison office, we believe that...finally...the complex will be able to resume operations

in the near future."

Kim Hyesung, Arirang News.

Trump blames Democrats for "horrible" U.S. immigration laws - Duration: 1:45.

Now for a look at stories making headlines around the world and we start in the United

States.

President Trump has accused the Democrats of obstructing his efforts to reform immigration

law.

For more on this and other international news we turn to Ro Aram…

Aram… what exactly did President Trump say?

Well Mark…

Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump said the Democrats were the ones responsible

for what he called horrible immigration laws.

He also said he would not let America be a migrant camp.

"…..Immigration is the fault and all of the problems that we're having, because we

cannot get them to sign legislation.

We cannot get them even to the negotiating table.

And I say it's very strongly the Democrats' fault, their obstruction and they're really

obstructionist and they are obstructing………..

"The United States will not be a migrant camp and it will not be a refugee holding facility,

it won't be.

You look at what's happening in Europe, you look at what's happening in other places we

can't allow that to happen to the United States.

Not on my watch…."

President Trump's so-called "zero tolerance" immigration policy, which was introduced two

months ago by his administration, has faced widespread criticism both from Democrats and

some Republicans.

The policy has resulted in nearly two thousand undocumented immigrant children being taken

from their parents and put in government facilities.

Asked if such measures amounts to child abuse, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen

insisted conditions at the detention centers are up to par.

South Korea, U.S. suspend Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise - Duration: 1:30.

Let's start with some news that broke within the past hour.

South Korea has revealed that Seoul and Washington will suspend annual military drills that had

been slated for August.

For more,... let's connect to our defense ministry correspondent Park Ji-won.

Ji-won,... this decision is surely linked to the ongoing efforts to engage Pyongyang

in diplomacy...

Yes, it seems that way.

South Korea's defense ministry announced just about an hour ago -- at 6AM, Korea time, that

the South and the U.S. will suspend the Ulchi Freedom Guardian military exercises,... defensive

annual joint military drills set for August.

The defense ministry said the decision came after a close consultations between the two

countries.

It also comes a matter of days after President Trump said he wanted to halt what he called

"war games" on the peninsula.

He made those remarks after his summit last week with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The ministry's statement said however that decisions regarding other joint military drills

haven't been reached yet.

Both allies have stressed that they will closely coordinate to ensure the ironclad security

of both countries.

That's all i have for now and i will bring you more updates later.

Back to you.

World Cup - South Koreans cheer on national team on streets of Seoul - Duration: 1:56.

Sticking with South Korea's first game at the World Cup in Russia.

As has become custom now during the World Cup,... tens of thousands of fans took to

the streets of Seoul and the country's other major cities to watch the game on big screens.

Our Kan Hyeong-woo went to check it out and files this report.

"I hope all 23 of our players leave everything on the pitch so they finish victorious.

Go Korea "

Anticipation and excitement.

Two words that best describe the atmosphere leading up to South Korea's first game at

the Russia World Cup.

An estimated 16-thousand football fans flooded onto the streets of southern Seoul on Monday

night to watch Team Korea take on Sweden.

Yeongdongdae-ro Street was one of many cheering locations across the nation after roads had

been blocked the previous night for the special event.

As kickoff edged closer, fans clad in bright red began to fill the streets, watching pre-match

entertainment courtesy of several K-Pop singers and bands.

The cheers and excitement reached fever pitch as the whistle blew for the start of the game.

However, those cheers turned to groans when Sweden scored the game's first and only goal.

While the disappointment was palpable at the final whistle,... most went home knowing all

is not lost... and the team still has two more chances at redemption.

"Watching games outside and cheering on the Taegeuk Warriors has been a Korean World Cup

tradition since 2002, and this Russian World Cup is no exception."

Fans will be out on the streets again for the next two matches against Mexico on the

24th and Germany on the 27th.

Day-5 wrap up from Russia World Cup - Duration: 1:53.

The curtain has come down on day five of the 2018 Russia World Cup.

We had a big game for South Korea,... taking on Sweden in their Group F opener.

England and Belgium were among the heavy-hitters in the day's other group games.

Lee Seung-jae has our World Cup wrap-up.

First up on Monday was South Korea versus Sweden.

The Taeguk Warriors were looking to pull off an upset against the European side in their

Group F match-up in Nizhny Novgorod.

Despite Head Coach Shin Tae-yong utilizing the height of striker Kim Shin-wook to counter

the much taller Swedish players,...

South Korea came up empty as their attempts to crack Sweden's defense came up short.

Despite another fantastic season with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League,...

South Korean striker Son Heung-min struggled to make an impact,... unable to put a single

shot on target the entire match.

The game's only goal came in the 65th minute after Sweden was awarded a penalty,... after

a video replay.

Sweden's Andreas Grangvist converted the penalty,... giving the Swedes all three points.

In Sochi,...

Belgium took on Panama in Group G.

A scoreless first half,... but Belgium quickly found their feet in the second half with Manchester

United striker Romelu Lukaku scoring twice as Belgium rounded out the match with a comfortable

three-nil win... and three points in the bag.

The day's last game was at the Volgograd Arena... with England taking on Tunisia in Group G.

England's Harry Kane was the star of the show,...scoring twice,... including an injury-time winner,...

to give England a 2-1 win.

The victories in a relatively weak group make Belgium and England the hot favorites to advance

to the round of 16.
