- His passion of food was so obvious.

- Oh!

- [Male voice] He went into food because he wanted

a platform from which to speak about identity and culture.

It's here, what are you gonna do with it?

- [Male voice] Pushing boundaries is core to what he does.

- [Male voice] I'm not trying to make a funny thing about it.

- [Eddie] Everything I do informs the other.

There's things I learn on the road that make it

to the writing, that make it to the food.

They all inform me as a human spirit.

Joom Haul. Website and Product Review. - Duration: 11:21.

Hey guys gummybear queen here

In today's video I am doing for the website Joom

And I am really excited to do this review

because I almost didn't have a good review of them to give to you guys

but last minute they pulled through

so I actually purchased 5 items if I recall or 6? No I purchased 6 items

I will now show you each item

This is item number 1

This is item number 2

This is item number 3

This is item number 4

This is item number 5

And this is item number 6

If I remember here I will attach my cart a breakdown of my final price

Okay so I made my purchase February 10th

Delivery was to be no later than April 26th

I received item 6 March 7th

Item 3 April 15th

Item 2 April 18th

Item 1 and 4 April 19th

And item 5 did not come until May 24th

So item 5 came late

and that was the item that that I was worried that I wasn't going to receive

that I would have less than a great review

to bring to you guys that I'd have to bring it to your attention that you may not get some of your items

or they may come late cause I was actually worried that the item would not come at all

so since I don't ever do these in order

from what I show you guys at the beginning of the video

I'm just going to pull out each item as we go

okay guys so my first item

is this cute very soft if you can imagine

plush bunny

you can hang it from your purse or your keychain or your backpack

he is fucking adorable

this is the dark grey I believe

um I was actually hoping for the lighter grey one

but he is adorable he is almost blue like a dark blue like a midnight almost

he is gorgeous

you can hardly see his other eye but his one eye is there and other eye's there

he does look kinda different from SOME of the photos

some of the photos they look like this

and then some of the other photos they look different

but I am in love with him

the only thing is if you play with him around too much

he does shed

which sucks really bad

but

he is stunning

like

literally one of the softest things that I have ever touched in my entire life

k next item is in this little package

they are blackhead pore strips

and the majority of the information on the back is not in English

but they still have English directions on here

which is really good because I am always worried about that

I'm always worried that I'm not going to know how to put these on

or whatever

suitable for many kinds of skin

mixed skin and pores

and the dirt and grease

and blackhead removal

cover is easy to form

black's position

and to natural plant essence

to make the skin pores clean

smooth clean skin

deeply gently remove dead skin

improve rough skin at the same time to

lighten the pores so that the skin luster

so obviously it was translated from another language and the majority of that did not make sense

and I was actually wrong

there are no instructions on here

so I would just have to like consult the picture

or the ad just to see if I could get more information on that

because

you know there's not anything on the package

any directions

there's so many in here

there's I don't know at least 10

I don't know there's at least 10 in there

which is really good

especially if they work if they don't work

then getting them might not be

getting that many might not be that useful

okay guys next item is this

I'll take it out of the package now and I'll show you

okay guys it's this funky looking doo-dad

it is actually for your eyelashes

so you can go like this and do your eyelashes

do like that do your eyelashes

I don't remember exactly what this end is for

I'd have to re-consult the the ad

so for this and the pores strips

I'm going to be doing reviews on my blog

so when I get around to doing it I will link them down in the description below

as well as the all the all the item uhh links

if all these items are still available to be purchased

okay next are these

cute stockings

umm they are very bunched up

they came like this

in no like fancy packaging or anything

so I can't exactly tell you what the print is until I put it on

but you guys have seen earlier in the ad

okay guys so that was my photo footage

of the stockings

this is what they look like

they're really cute

up until about the knee

then the pattern really stretches out

and I don't think it looks as good

ummm I haven't seen the photo footage yet myself

so I can't actually tell how true that is when I stand

but when I'm sitting the print is

not attractive looking

it's very thin

doesn't look as good

as the knee below

umm they are they are really soft though

just in the knee area they're not comfortable

for me personally I have very sensitive skin

but I do really like these stockings

I think they are really cute

Okay the second last item is actually

and eye glass

cleaner little pad

I don't have the item with me

I've actually misplaced it

umm I think I put it in the bag with the other items

upon receiving it because it was the last item that came very very late

so I wasn't expecting getting it at all

so I probably have it downstairs somewhere

I'm not sure

but anyway you have seen from the picture

it's just like this cute little thing kinda like shaped like this

has little pads on it

you clean your glasses with it like that

and I've gotten a few of them in the past before

and I know they work

ummm I don't know if the ones from Joom works as well as the other ones

cause I didn't get a chance to try it out

but umm

it was very inexpensive

so I would just pick a few up if I were you

ummm they are really handy to have to clean your glasses with

cause nothing sucks more than dirty glasses or being used to dirty glasses

and now we are going to get onto the last item

okay guys this is the last item the mickey or minnie mouse bowl

its a very shallow bowl

as you can tell

very cute

I got it in pink

they have it in many other different colours

I didn't expect it to be this light in colour

it's

almost

I don't know what colour to describe it as

but it's like a very muted pinkish purple

like it's just very

very muted in colour

like the camera's picking it up

umm a lot more pink than it actually is

so I have used this bowl

you know you put your fruits or your candy

your cereal in here

like very little

uh snacks or you could even put this on the table

put candies in it for company or whatever

I love this bowl but ya I'm just kinda disappointed

it's actually this shallow I was hoping it would

be not as shallow it'd

be a deeper bowl but I am not complaining like I really like this bowl

it's really cute it's plastic

which I wasn't sure if it was gunna be plastic or ceramic or not

ceramic would've been nice a deeper bowl

more like a like a cereal bowl

than a snack dish

this is more like a dish than a bowl

like to me anyway

it's almost more like a tray

but I really like this bowl actually

it is so cute

I'm really bummed out that I couldn't get the other item for you guys

very professional of me to misplace an item that I need to do for review

but it happens

so anyway that is my review of Joom

I do recommend them they just take a really long time to get to you depending on where you're located

ummm and I know

one other Youtuber I can't remember her name right now

She did a review as well and her last item took a long time to come and she thought wasn't going to come

so

I guess that is like a frequent thing that if you purchase a lot of items

one item will take a million years or never show up

so realistically you're taking a gamble

umm I think I still prefer Wish or Aliexpress

to Joom

but Joom still has a lot of items

ummm they're a lot like Wish

ummm they they're a good website

I umm it's just a gamble you gotta take when

you're doing international

umm online shopping

so anyway I hope you guys enjoyed the review

and I will see you in the next video

bye everybody

🍉Watermelon Jell-O slices 🍉| 🍉Summertime treat🍉 - Duration: 3:19.

summer is here and what better way to celebrate them with jello watermelon

slices let me show you how to make these

guys things you are going to need are a cutting board a knife I could not find

watermelon jello so I have to cherry I also have some plain gelatin with no

taste or flavor and a small watermelon the first thing you're going to do is

make sure your watermelon is sturdy enough on each side to hold up then you

are going to cut this beautiful thing in half look how red it is you are going to

slice and dice and then take a spoon and scoop it on out just make sure you do

not puncture the bottom of the watermelon because you do not want it to

leak

now you are going to take one and a half cups of water and bring it to a boil and

then you're going to take another one and a half cups of water and add some

ice and set it aside once your water has come to a boil you're gonna take one

package of flavored gelatin and a half a pack of regular gelatin and stick it in

your water and make sure all the clumps are out

now it is time to add your ice water make sure all of the ice is well melted

and then you are done

now you are going to take the to half of your watermelon and I recommend sticking

it on a cookie tray putting some napkins on the bottom so that way it doesn't get

too messy and then add your jello and then stick it in the refrigerator for at

least four hours or overnight and then once it is set up you're going to cut

your watermelon like you normally would and there you guys have it I hope you

enjoyed this video it's a nice refreshing snack for the kids after

school or during the summer of course so I hope you guys enjoyed give it a thumbs

up if you did like and subscribe and we will see you in the next video oh by the

way that little watermelon didn't have very much in it so I just kind of took

some of the watermelon and scooped it up and you have a bowl of watermelon jello

bye guys

Up Close With A Vampire Killing Kit - Duration: 0:52.

This is a vampire killing kit.

Stories involving vampires rising from the grave to drink blood and shape-shift

have been common in Europe for hundreds of years.

Steeped in mythology, vampires have their own canon of implements used to combat them.

In this kit you can find a wooden stake, ivory crucifix, holy water, garlic, and casts for making silver bullets.

Legend has it that those traveling through the forests of Transylvania

would arm themselves with kits such as these.

Believe it or not, Ripley's owns the largest collection of vampire killing kits in the world.

NEW Too Faced Melted Matte-Tallic Lipstick Reveal & Swatching | This Week in Beauty 6/19 - Duration: 3:02.

(upbeat music)

- Hey everyone, I'm Roxette Arisa,

and you're watching This Week In Beauty with Ipsy.

So, today I have a very exciting launch

to tell you guys about.

Too Faced Cosmetics actually just released

a brand new line of Melted Metallic liquid lipsticks.

These shades are so beautiful.

There's a really nice range.

We've got some nudes in here.

We've got some bronzy tones,

and then we also have some like, jewel tones

that are gonna be really special

if you want a bolder lip option and everything like that.

And they actually are 25-hour long wearing liquid lipsticks.

They have a beautiful finish to them.

So, this is the one I'm wearing today.

It's the shade You Better Work!,

and like I was saying,

it has such a beautiful formula

because it does have that slight metallic sheen.

I almost wanna call it like a brushed metal sheen,

but it's still very wearable because

it has that beautiful matte finish as well.

So, it's kind of like a faded metallic,

is what I like to call it.

And, because of that, it's a very wearable metallic,

but you're still staying on the trends,

staying on top of everything.

They actually are transfer proof,

kiss proof, sip proof and life proof,

and you can basically wear them all day, all night

because they are 25-Hour wear like I said before.

They're a super duper beautiful formula,

very easy to wear and great color range.

On top of that, they're super easy to apply.

This applicator comes with a little tip on it,

so you can line your lips with the tip

where it's a little bit more precise,

and then really fill in the lips with the flat side.

It just makes it so easy.

You don't need to have an extra lip liner product,

if you don't want to.

You can just use this product and be good to go.

And that's what I did today to achieve this lip look.

The transformer shade is cool because

you can actually wear it on top of any

of the other liquid lipsticks and give it almost,

like a holographic sheen.

Or you can wear it on its own,

to just give your lips a little bit more shine.

If you wanna check that out,

you definitely should check out all these lip products

because they're really cool, super trendy,

very on top of our game here with metallics

and holographics.

We're doing the most here.

And you're gonna find all of these on Ipsy shopper.

For me, when I want to rock a metallic lip,

I really like to leave the eyes more neutral.

So, whether that means just a

neutral brown eye shadow or maybe a wing liner look

like I have today;

something that the colors are neutral,

so that the pop can really come out of the lips,

and they can just add that little bit of extra oomph

to the entire makeup look.

To win this entire collection,

all you have to do is tell us what shade

you are most excited to try from the collection,

and also let us know how you rock a metallic lip.

Make sure to tune back in on Thursday,

because, we're getting wet and wild up in here.

We are gonna be testing out a completely water resistant

makeup line from Cargo Cosmetics,

and putting it to the test.

I don't know how it's gonna go,

but you guys gotta see this one.

Thank you so much for watching

This Week In Beauty with Ipsy,

I'm Roxette Arisa and we'll see you next time.

How To Install Wire Shelving - Duration: 2:27.

wire shelving is practical and affordable and it really is pretty easy

to install now it comes in kits but it also comes in lots of individual pieces

so you have a lot of options it's perfect for a pantry a closet a garage

really any place you need a little extra storage so here are the basics for

installing wire shelving in a closet using a track system start by measuring

the dimensions of the closet be as accurate as you can and make sure you

get the depth the width and the height then design a layout to fit your needs

be sure to include the length of each piece and the desired height for each

shelf using a stud finder locate the wall studs place the hang track in

position with as many screw holes as possible centered on studs drive a screw

into one of the center slots and level the track once level drive in the rest

of the screws again two studs whenever you can for the strongest possible

installation for drywall use anchors or toggle bolts to help secure the track

the standard is the vertical piece that the shelf brackets will attach to lock

the first shelf standard onto the track and screw to the wall at the closest

hole to the center of the standard standard should be placed no more than

24 inches apart and be no more than four inches from the end of the shelf

insert the shelf brackets into the standards now keep in mind that you will

have to cut all of your wire shelving to length and you can certainly do that

yourself using a hacksaw or just some bolt cutters or if you want to save

yourself the trouble you can have that done for you for free in the store by an

associate but it's important you have to bring in all your measurements when you

come to the store now lock the shelves onto the brackets by pressing down until

they snap into place install supports for clothing rods if you have them and

as a finishing touch add caps to any cut ends of shelving as well as to closet

rods to keep hangers in place and there you have it you've got a great new space

just waiting to be put to good use with all these accessories like

drawers baskets shoe organizers and more wire shelving offer solutions for all

your storage needs

What If The Titanoboa Snake Didn't Go Extinct? - Duration: 4:26.

60 million years ago, following the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, giant snakes roamed the

Americas.

The biggest of these snakes was known as Titanoboa and it was just as terrifying as it sounds.

Related to modern-day boa constrictors, Titanoboa was a monster.

Thankfully, Titanoboa went extinct, but what if it didn't?

That's exactly what we are going to talk about, right now on life's biggest questions.

Hello and welcome back to life's biggest questions, the channel that asks the questions

everyone else is too afraid to ask.

I'm your host, Charlotte Dobre, and if you enjoy our content, leave a like, subscribe

and turn on those notifications.

Is there anything scarier than a gigantic snake?

A team of scientists found a Titanoboa fossil at an open pit coal mine in Colombia.

The Titanoboa makes modern day anacondas look like toys.

According to fossils, Titanoboa was 12.8 meters or 42 feet long and weighed about 1,100 kg

or 2500 pounds.

But because snake fossils are extremely hard to find, it's not completely out of the question

that it could have grown to be even larger.

Its believed that Titanoboa ate large turtles and crocodylomorphs, which were essentially

giant crocodiles.

The Titanoboa lived in what is believed to have been the first recorded Neotropical forest

that ever existed, where Central and South America exist today.

How did Titanoboa get so big?

Well back during the Paleocene era, the earth was quite a bit warmer.

The average temperature of its habitat was, on average, about 32 degrees Celsius, or 90

degrees Fahrenheit.

The warm climate allowed for cold-blooded snakes to grow very large, much larger than

any snake we currently know of.

Even to this day, as you move away from the equator, ectothermic animals decrease in size.

Titanoboa became the rainforest's top predator, and for good reason.

It is the biggest snake to ever have lived.

Titanoboa killed its victims using asphyxiation, where it wrapped itself tightly around its

prey and squeezed until it suffocated.

Once you are in the Titanoboa mouth, there is no escape.

Row upon row of sharp, curved teeth that point to the rear of its mouth keeps the prey moving

toward the stomach.

Titanoboa slithered around in water and swamps.

Thankfully, Titanoboa began to go extinct toward the beginning of the Miocene era, but

now that you know a little about Titanoboa, let's talk about what would happen if it never

went extinct in the first place.

First things first, because Titanoboa would need to live in warm climates, it would only

be able to survive in rainforests near the equator.

This would be good news for everyone who lived farther north or south of the equator.

It would, however, mean bad news for any central and south Americans that lived anywhere near

the habitat of Titanoboa.

Indigenous people in the area like the Aztecs and the Incas probably would have regarded

Titanoboa as a god and would have made sacrifices to it.

That is if Titanoboa didn't prey on them.

As Titanoboa hunted mostly in water, a way for forest-dwelling people to escape it could

be to build their homes in trees.

In modern times, there would, of course, be hunters who would try to track down Titanoboa

for various reasons, perhaps even for food.

Titanoboa meat would be considered a delicacy, one food connoisseurs would be eager to put

on their plates.

But catching a Titanoboa would not be easy.

Navigating the difficult, swampy terrain of the rainforest would be needless to say, difficult.

But one thing you could do to lure it close would be to set a trap.

Crocodiles, the Titanoboa's main food source, also lived until modern day.

Set a trap with a crocodile and wait for boa to come to you.

Once it devoured its meal, like most snakes, it would be tired and less likely to attack.

This would be the perfect time to strike.

Countless books and television shows would be made about the Titanoboa.

Nature Shows like BBC's planet earth would do everything in their power, even risk lives

to get footage of it.

It's not likely that the Titanoboa would be kept in zoos, after all, it's huge, and it

would have to be fed crocodiles.

No one knows exactly why Titanoboa went extinct.

The main theory is that the temperature of the earth began to cool.

The hotter the temperature, the bigger the snakes, but the same is true for the opposite.

This is because, in places where the temperature is constantly hot, the metabolism of reptiles

operates sufficiently.

The bigger you get, the more energy you need to sustain you.

But Once the global temperature began to drop, its metabolism could not adjust, and eventually,

it went extinct.

And I'm not mad about it.

I don't know about you, but even small snakes scare the crap out of me.

For now, I'm Charlotte Dobre and you've been watching life's biggest questions,

GIVEAWAY : Building the Drevo BladeMaster Mechanical Keyboard - Duration: 4:20.

Drevo have been a brand that I have endorsed for quite a while now.

I've admired their approach of providing more exotic layout keyboards at a budget price.

And this keyboard is another step in that direction, whether it's a good one, we'll

have to see.

Drevo offered for me to build one of these new Blademaster's on camera to give it away

to raise awareness for their Kickstarter campaign, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

So if you want to win this keyboard, I'll explain how you can enter at the end of the

video.

Alright so here are all the parts.

We have a load of hardware with screws and stuff.

There's also a heap of keyswitches, which I assume will be offered with the actual keyboard.

Okay, so they sent 2 plates to me.

One grey, and one black, both of which are made from aluminium.

Although the black one has the stabilisers in them.

But I'm feelin the grey one, so I'll pop out the stabilisers and chuck them onto the

other plate.

These are plate mounted stabilisers, and since I'm giving this board away, I thought I'd

clip them, and lube them.

Alright, so now to the keyswitches.

I received big bags of Cherry MX Silvers, and Brown's.

So I'm going to go with majority of the keys being MX Speed Silvers, and the rest

being a mix of the other ones.

Again, all the keyboards will come preassembled, like a normal retail keyboard, so no soldering

will be required.

But this also does give me the freedom to mix it up a bit.

I don't think there were any instructions on how to put it together, so I was kind of

guessing.

It turned out that I needed to put the plastic diffuser piece in before the cable which makes

sense.

And the cable is non-removable by the way.

They also gave me grey and black plastic pieces which close off the sides.

So just to make it different, I will use the black pieces.

And everything basically just sandwiches together, and is held by a bunch of Philips head screws.

The keycaps are thin ABS plastic which are coated in black and then laser etched for

the legends.

So they're not great, in regards to how they feel and the eventual durability of them.

But they do look nice with a clean and simple typeface or font, and they have that matte

finish.

But yeh, I still do prefer their doubleshot backlit keycaps like on the Drevo Tyrfing.

And the last thing to put on, is the signature knob.

And here it is all done.

This is just a quick video that I wanted to get up.

I'll do the proper review very soon.

But first impressions is that it is quite a departure from their usual more clean and

simple aesthetics, that I know many prefer.

It's quite obvious that this is a more aggressive design that I personally do not prefer, but

as always looks are subjective.

And I guess it opens them up to the other side of the market that's more into something

like this.

' I think a lot lies on the actual usability

of the knob on the side, which I will go more in depth on in the review.

And it is an innovative feature, and I always welcome innovation.

It's good to keep an open mind and not write off new things immediately.

But now to the giveaway.

I'm going to make this very simple by just using Gleam.

Visit the link in the description, and all you have to do is be subscribed to the channel,

and you're good to go.

This will be an international giveaway.

I'll let this run for a week, and will email the winner, and comment back on this video.

So best of luck, and thanks to Drevo for letting me do this, and you can check out their Kickstarter

campaign with the link in the description.

Is It Possible To Cerakote Plastic? - Duration: 5:43.

one thing I've always been curious about is if it's possible the seracote

something plastic so I'm gonna pull a plastic part off the 125 and try coating

it this should be interesting these are easy candidates right here the

caliper and rotor guard will be perfect parts that test on and they will look so

much better in black these guards are getting pretty beat-up and yellowed but

I should be able to revive him with some coating here so what I'm gonna do is

clean them up with degreaser wipe them down with acetone since I'm not really

sure if they would hold up to it soaked in acetone then bead blast them and then

see if they would take some heat through the oven

I'm not quite sure if sandblasting is safe for plastic or not I mean it

definitely Ruffins up the material which is great for preparation for a coating

but it kind of impregnates a plastic with little beads of sand so I'm gonna

wipe these parts down with acetone and then see if they can take some heat

through the oven

so I ended up cutting down the hanging wire is pretty short so that way the

parts are farther away from the heating element definitely don't want to store

it or melt them at all so seracote recommends curing plastic parts at 150

degrees for two hours so I'm gonna try these parts in the oven at 150 for like

20 minutes see if this type of plastic will hold up or not

so why seracote instead of something like spray-paint

well first off spray-paint usually doesn't hold up very well on plastic and

in my experience seracote or ceramic coating is a much more durable finish

but I'm not quite sure how it'll hold up on something like these plastic guards

which are pretty flexible and they get bent and beat around quite a bit on the

bike so what I'll probably do is finish up the coating mount them up on the bike

do a few rides and report back with how they're holding up so I've had this

stuff in the oven for about 20 minutes now hopefully there's not a pool of

plastic on the bottom of the oven no looks like they're holding up pretty

well so I'm gonna pull them out and shoot them with seracote

so it's been a full two hours of this stuff in the oven I really hope it

turned out good Hey look at that not too bad at all

so I've looked the seracote cooled down and hardened up for a few hours and this

finish actually looks pretty good although it's still a bit scraped up

from before so I'm really hoping that this type of coating holds up one thing

I was curious about with the seracote is if it can withstand the flexing of

plastic this rotor guard gets a ton of abuse when on the bike so it'll be

interesting to see if it can withstand that so right now I'm just gonna bend

the guard around kind of twist it up see if that seracote cracks at all looks

like it's holding up pretty well but now the real test will be running these

parts on the bike

I would have to say that looks a whole lot better than white now I could have

just gone out and spent 30 or 40 bucks on new guards from Honda that are

already black but you know what I'm gonna do it yourself type and this is a

fun little project and it was more of a test for a future project you guys will

be seeing soon so I'm gonna do a few rides on these guards and report back to

see how they fare it's a few weeks later never in the bike a couple times just

finished washing it up so let's take a look at these rotor and caliper guards

so far I don't see any white showing through there's a few scuffs here and

there but pretty impressive results for just spraying a coating on some plastic

house I put more hours on these parts I'll post a little update over on

Instagram with how they're holding up so go find that page it's at Cameron Imola

same spelling as here on YouTube hope you guys enjoyed this little experiment

it's really fun to do and I've got a lot more of these coming your way so stay

tuned thanks for watching and keep it prime everyone

you

We Don't Actually Know Where the Sun Came From - Duration: 6:57.

Thanks to Brilliant.org for supporting SciShow Space.

[♪ INTRO]

Space is packed with all kinds of mysteries; that's part of what makes it cool.

Some of those mysteries, though, are closer to home than others.

Like, here's a surprising one: We actually don't know where the Sun came from!

According to what we know about star formation, the Sun probably formed from a huge cloud

of gas, along with a bunch of stellar siblings, stars that formed in the same place out of

the same stuff.

Except, we can't find evidence of that cloud, or the Sun's family, anywhere.

Our little Sun is all on its own.

Get your tissues ready, because this is basically waiting to be turned into a Pixar short.

Even though we can't find the Sun's family, we're pretty confident it has to exist because

of how most stars form.

The current model requires that a bunch of stars get born together out of a big ol'

gas cloud, called a molecular or giant molecular cloud depending on its size.

Eventually, because space is super vicious, the clouds get eaten up or dispersed by their

star children.

After that, the stars, and their planets, if they've accumulated any, might separate

or might move together for a while in a so-called open cluster.

Then, over time, all the little gravitational pulls and tugs from the member stars build

up and finally send the stars on different trajectories.

These stars can end up all over a galaxy, but they can still be identified as members

of the same family because they typically have similar ages, and often have really similar

compositions.

There can be plenty of variation within a cluster, but there are still some general

trends we can look for.

Most stars don't stick around to form open clusters, but we have evidence that the Sun

was one of the few who stayed with its family a bit longer.

For one thing, the orbital motions of the Kuiper Belt objects, most notably the planetoid

Sedna, strongly suggest some gravitational interaction with other stars, probably in

a relatively dense group.

Otherwise, they likely couldn't have been jostled into their current orbits.

There's also evidence, like the excess amount of heavy elements in the Sun, and the presence

of uranium in the Earth, that there was a supernova near our star when it formed.

It could've come from a huge, short-lived member of a larger stellar nursery, like an

older sibling who peaked too early.

We have plenty of reason to believe that the Sun was born in an open cluster, but we can't

find anyone else from that stellar nursery, even though we've been looking all over.

It's like Finding Dory, but with a lot more math.

For a while, astronomers thought the Messier 67 open cluster, or M67 for short, was the

most likely candidate.

It's an open cluster about 2700 light years away, in the Cancer constellation.

It's a pretty dense group, which would match our hypotheses, and it's also about five

billion years old.

That's really old for an open cluster, but it's about as old as the Sun!

Admittedly, dating stars is really hard, so there are some big error bars on that measurement.

But it's in the ballpark, and astronomers love ballparking.

So its age and density make M67 a good candidate, but its orbital path around the galaxy is

way different from the Sun's, and that's become a big source of debate.

On the one hand, this might not be a problem.

Because members of open clusters interact gravitationally, it's possible that a star

could get kicked out and end up with some different orbital parameters.

But on the other hand, the kind of kick that the Sun would have needed to get on its current

path is super huge, like, too big for it to have kept its baby solar system.

So the fact that we're here is some evidence against the M67 hypothesis.

That is, unless that kick happened really early on.

An early, gentle nudge, given a lot of time, could have gotten the Sun way off course.

So, we're still not exactly sure what's going on here!

What we could really use is more data.

Thankfully, there are a few projects, both launched in 2013, that are helping with that.

One is the Gaia mission, run by the European Space Agency, and the other is the GALAH project,

run by the Australian Astronomical Observatory.

Together, they're collecting astrometry and astrochemistry data of a truly enormous

quantity of stars, or data about their positions, movements, and chemistry.

Astrometry is good for finding former and current open clusters, because members of

them move together.

And even if the Sun's siblings have dispersed, we could use current star positions to calculate

the cluster's original location.

Astrochemistry may also prove to be a smoking gun.

Since the Sun is so metallic from that supernova explosion, its sibling stars may have similarly

high metallicities.

All we have to do is find stars that match those descriptions!

Gaia is working to get astrometric and astrochemical data on a /billion/ stars from an orbit near

Earth.

GALAH, on the other hand, is just doing astrochemistry on a more modest million stars, and it's

operating from the ground.

Both missions will wrap up over the next few years.

After that, it's up to astronomers to make sense of the mountains of data!

Between the two surveys, we're characterizing tons and tons of stars.

We haven't found the Sun's siblings yet, but these surveys are currently our best chance

at it.

Besides being a nice end to a story, understanding where the Sun originated and what it was like

there can also help us understand why our solar system turned out like it did.

Still, even if these projects don't give us the data we need to solve the Sun's mystery,

they'll give us incredible insights into the formation and evolution of the galaxy,

which is a pretty sweet consolation prize.

But there are some puzzles we can solve about where stars come from on Brilliant.org.

That's right, they have a whole course on the Life Cycles of Stars which starts with

this Star Formation quiz.

What's cool about Brilliant is that they've really embraced how to best use their platform

with animations that help you wrap your brain around a complex idea.

When I was going to school and regularly taking science quizzes, we didn't have the internet

or computers in the classroom, because I'm old.

We had this stuff called paper and it didn't include moving graphics like this that help

you imagine the problem.

But with Brilliant, whether you're a student or a lifelong learner, you can benefit from

these interactive quizzes to help you learn and have fun while you're doing it.

So check it out and see how much you know about star formation.

Brilliant is also offering 20% off their annual premium subscription to the first 200 SciShow

Space viewers who sign up at Brilliant.org/SciShowSpace.

So you'll get a discount, and be helping to support SciShow Space.

So thanks! You are awesome!

The voices of children separated at the border - Duration: 7:07.

What you're listening to, are the sounds that have been missing from the policy debate

around immigration.

From the ones with the most at stake: children who've been forcibly separated from their parents.

It's a recording that was made from inside of a Border Patrol facility, of children who

have been separated recently from their parents

after having crossed the border without documents

into the United States.

That's Ginger Thompson, the ProPublica reporter who obtained this secretly recorded clip from

a Texas civil rights attorney.

They were between the ages of four and ten.

All of the children on this recording are

from Central American countries.

There's a 6 year old Salvadoran girl on the clip.

Her name is Alison Jimena Valencia Madrid.

She was just finishing kindergarten back in El Salvador.

Her mother decided to flee gang violence.

She has family in the United States.

In this tape she is distraught

and asks authorities to let her make a phone call.

She wants to

call her aunt.

There are around 2,300 kids who have been separated from their parents,

since what's known as

the "zero tolerance" policy was started by the administration in April.

The zero tolerance policy calls for all people who illegally cross the border, even if they're

crossing for the first time,

to be criminally prosecuted and that their children or any

children that they brought with them will be separated during that time.

They're being held initially in these border patrol facilities,

but then they move into facilities that are controlled by Health and Human Services.

The United States will not be a migrant camp.

We do not have the luxury of pretending that all individuals coming to this country

as a family unit, are in fact a family.

This administration has a simple message: if you cross the border illegally,

we will prosecute you.

The backlash to this policy has been swift and sharp.

People with very diverse political views on every other thing seem to have come together

to condemn this policy.

I don't think we should obey a law that goes against what God intends,

that you would take a baby, a child.

It's terrible to see families ripped apart and I don't support that one bit.

We do have to find the middle ground of somehow, you know,

honoring the law of the land,

but showing mercy to the immigrant.

The administration has sort of been struggling to respond.

I would cite you to the apostle Paul,

in his clear and wise command in

Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government.

It is very biblical to enforce the law,

that is actually repeated a number of times throughout the Bible.

Have you heard the audio clip of these children wailing

that just came out today?

I have not seen something that came out today,

but I have been to detention centers

and again, I would reference you to our standards.

The image of this country that you want out there, children –

the image that I want of this country is an immigration system that

secures our borders and upholds our humanitarian ideals.

Congress needs to fix it.

We're not the ones responsible for creating this problem,

we've inherited it, but we're actually the first administration stepping up

and trying to fix it.

The Trump administration blames the previous administration for this policy.

But the Obama administration did conduct a record number of deportations,

but that administration

did not prosecute people criminally for crossing the border for the first time

nor did it separate

children from their parents at the time of the crossing.

Facing the backlash, the administration opened up tightly controlled tours of the facilities.

This is handout footage from the government.

Cameras are tightly restricted for journalists.

And the children being detained are not allowed to speak to them.

They can be sort of sanitized, very sterile experiences that show you what the shelter

looks like, but when it comes to children,

gives you very little sense of

what impact being there has on them.

For now, this clip is the closest we've gotten to hearing from the children.

The Salvadoran girl who asked for the phone call with her aunt

actually got that phone call.

I dialed that number as well and was able to speak to the aunt.

You know, the aunt was was devastated by this phone call and said to me, you know,

can you imagine getting a phone call from your 6 year old niece who is screaming into the

phone and saying you know

Please Auntie, please. I'll behave myself, just come get me out of here,

because I'm alone.

Thanks for watching.

We want to keep reporting this story

and talking to families who have been affected.

So, has your family been separated at the US-Mexico border?

Or do you work in a border detention facility

or aid families who've been affected by this policy?

If so, contact us at the link in the description below.
