Waching daily Jun 19 2018

- Here's a list of the common questions

I get asked from clients before getting a tattoo.

Number one. (ding)

Right now, our artists are crazy busy.

Right now, we are the busiest,

fastest-growing shop in Utah,

and we're getting booked up, more and more,

every single day, due to high demand.

The more you put this thing off,

the longer the wait is going to be, usually.

Some artists are booked for six months or more,

and some have already closed their books.

So, if you put your tattoo off,

you also risk having to wait months, or even longer,

if we're still accepting clients.

At some point, the goal is to close

all of our books for a while

to focus on those clients that took action and scheduled.

But check this, if you set up a consultation today,

you can get your questions answered,

an opportunity to schedule, and help from one of our artists

in planning the design and how it is going

to fit in with your finances.

And, if you're a busy person, we'll help you figure out

how to fit it in with your schedule.

We actually prefer doing things by appointment,

planning them out.

We will answer all of your questions in your consultation.

Number two. (doorbell)

If you haven't even had your consultation with an artist,

how will you know if you can't afford

your tattoo yet or not?

Clarity is power, the consultation's free.

Speaking with one of our specialized artists

will help you clearly understand what it will take

to get that tattoo you've always wanted.

Even if you don't think you can afford it.

That's why we work so hard to get

tattoo financing for our clients,

and we were one of the first shops

in the entire world to do it.

It's the perfect way to get the tattoo you've always wanted,

without having to settle for going

to a cheaper artist and risk regret.

But we only get 17 applications per month out right now.

So call us to see if there are still any left.

It's funny because most people who think

they won't get approved for financing, actually do.

And soon you're gonna see how.

Call this number right now,

or the link in the description or the button,

to schedule your free consultation.

Call us right now to schedule your consultation.

Number three. (phone ringing)

What if I've got a ton of ideas

and I don't know where to start?

I've got great news.

Our artists are great at listening

and understanding your tattoo ideas,

and collaborating with you to create

the perfect tattoo design that fits your personality.

Schedule your consultation today

and let us help you create your tattoo masterpiece.

Number four. (doorbell)

Good question.

It really depends on what you want,

how long it'll take, the day of the week

that you'd like to get an appointment.

All of those things are big factors

when it comes to scheduling a tattoo.

But once you have your consultation with one of our artists,

you'll know your artist's availability,

and be able to find a time that fits

with everybody's schedule.

Number five. (doorbell)

This is one of the most common questions I hear.

So, let's answer.

Here's the deal, Savage Tattoo was created

to set a higher standard for a tattoo experience, OK?

If you're looking for a tattoo artist

you can feel comfortable with, you can trust,

and you want someone to tattoo you

that is experienced in the style you're wanting,

Savage Tattoo is for you.

When I created Savage Tattoo

I hired artists that put their heart into it, like me.

That are experienced in the following styles of tattooing.

Portrait tattoos and memorial tattoos,

motivational tattoos,

color realism,

black and gray realism,

spiritual pieces,

scripts and lettering,

smooth black and grays in all styles,

smooth color-blends in all styles,

traditional and old-school,

trash polka,

basically any style of tattooing.

Half-sleeves, back pieces,

stretch marks and scar covering,

and yes, even mastectomy tattoos.

If you're looking for any of the above,

Savage Tattoo is for you.

Schedule your free consultation with us right now.

If you have a basic idea and need

someone with creativity to bring it to life,

or show interest in your ideas,

we will listen to you until we understand your project

and can bring your vision to life.

If you need a cover-up,

our artists are great at determining and working

through the challenges of cover-ups, if they are possible.

Sometimes you may need laser removal,

but, by getting a consultation,

you'll know exactly whether that's the case or not,

by an expert.

Call us right now to schedule your consultation.

Also, ask us how we can help pay for your gas

to make things easier for you.

You can schedule your free consultation today

by calling this number

or clicking the link below this video.

Number six. (knocking on door)

What if I want my tattoo now?

The type of tattoos you see coming out of our shop,

tattoo masterpieces,

they don't come from impatient clients

in the snap of a finger.

I wish they did, I would love it.

But, the truth is, they don't.

Most come from proper planning and designing.

You can speak with one of our artists

through a consultation,

and if you're wanting something small,

we do have artists that are fairly quick

at getting people in.

Number seven. (trolley bell)

Great news.

Every once in a while, we open our client books

and you might be able to squeeze in

without having to wait for a while.

Bad news is that every time we open these books,

we also get busier and busier.

That being said, you might wanna think about

how you can get at least $100 deposit

to schedule the actual tattoo appointment

and schedule it out far enough that you can save for it.

Or you can apply for or V.I.P. Tattoo Financing program.

Or cut back on those coffees you purchase

or those new Jordan retros you were gonna buy.

Maybe even cancel the trip to the mall

you had planned on payday, to blow your paycheck

on clothes you don't need.

Or hey, what about those nights

at the Sky Bar on 25th street drinking with your friends?

Come on, man, you know it's common to wake up in the morning

wondering where your morals and your money went.

This is a better investment

and lasts a lot longer than that.

And then, when you get your tattoo,

you'll have an amazing tattoo to show off

everywhere you go.

I can see it already.

Schedule your tattoo consultation now.

One more thing.

These are the most common questions

I've received about our tattoo shop,

so if you have any other questions that weren't addressed,

drop a comment below this video,

or send us a message or give us a call

at the number right here.

We'd be glad to help.

This Happened On Earth In May 2018 - Duration: 10:31.

April flowers can bring May showers and it may sometimes bring either good or bad things and as the world is growing constantly

Fast things are always happening

With a world that is always moving and today you're on FTD facts

We are gonna talk about some of the craziest things that happened in May of 2018. Hey everybody. How's it going?

Welcome to FTD facts the channel where we usually talk about people cultures and places from all around the world now

Today, we're gonna do things just a little bit different from what we normally do

like I said

We do videos on

Countries and cultures like if that's kind of your thing and you want to learn about other places from around the world

Well, you want to hit that subscribe button hit that Bell notification because that is what we do here on top of that

We're a big channel where we take a lot of recommendations from you guys

So don't feel afraid to leave them down there in the comments section below

But with that being said today, we are looking back at some of the things that happen around the world in the month of May

2018 now one of the reasons we're starting this up because well as we learn about many different places around the world and their culture

We can understand the struggles that they can go through as well

and we think that's very important when it comes to broadening our understanding of the world you get an

Idea of what other people have been through? So yeah. Anyways, let's get rolling with it now first and foremost

we should look at probably one of the biggest stories that happened in May of

2018 and that was the taxes thing with the United States and the tariffs

this was just absolutely ridiculous in America Donald Trump and his government decided to increase the tariffs by

25 percent to countries like Canada the UK the EU and Mexico

Now these were tariffs that were put on products like steel and this one into effect on June 1st 2018

But I'm throwing it in May because it was announced that it was going to happen on May 31st

2018 and because of this whole thing it actually had major

retaliation against the United States and we got countries even like

Canada who's like my country who were usually like? Yeah United States do whatever you want. We'll just go with you

We're actually being like nah

Not happening and for countries like the EU it plans to retaliate by targeting

2.8 billion euros of products coming from the US and put tariffs on them

Now, of course the EU and many other countries are actually ignoring what the a great American mr

Donald Trump is saying and he's basically stating that hey any country that wants to retaliate against this is gonna, you know be punished

I don't know how you're gonna punish another country

We'll wait and see how that finds out especially due to the fact that you know

You can put all the tariffs you want on steel more steel comes from Luxembourg than any other country in the entire world

So yeah now for Mexico

They actually plan to also put tariffs on three billion dollars of US exports and even Canada has started to retaliate by imposing

Similar dollars on the exports that come from the United States and as a matter of fact, it's gotten so bad

I know America has this great new Donald Trump philosophy of make America great again by having American jobs

Well, the downside is is a lot of Canadians here are like now we don't want to buy American products anymore

So good luck exporting it either way one downside is that people are talking that this may actually cause a huge economic

Recession like it did back in 2008 and we all don't want to see that

I mean that was really do more to the housing market and other markets as well

But this could be another one right around the corner. Thanks Trump now on a lighter note

We also had the wedding of Prince Harry and Meg and Markel which happened on May 19th of the st

George's Chapel in England personally, I was looking forward to this and then I totally forgot to watch the thing to begin with

I just didn't really want to get up early and watch the Royal Wedding

I was kind of hoping that they would do it at night

So then the rest of the world could watch it, but you know, they didn't do that and I just missed the whole thing

But either way, I'm a huge fan of royal weddings. I think it's kind of great that these countries sort of do it. Yeah

Sure. I know some people from the UK agree. Well, it's a waste of tax dollars

But hey, it's a nice old-school tradition sort of thing that other countries from around the world don't have they Canada?

We don't have any royalty unless you're talking about. Dan Aykroyd. That's about it

But either way the wedding itself was huge and had a global audience of 1.9 billion people watching

Which is insane if you think about it, that's 25 percent of the world, even if they were watching for one second

I mean like ding. I mean FIFA beats that but still that's pretty impressive just for a wedding. I mean like it's just crazy

They must have made a lot of money off of average. Yeah, that's where the Royal money is coming from all their weddings

They don't need the tax dollars. This is like a Super Bowl, but when it comes to two people

Getting in. Oh, yeah not porno wise. Sorry, of course

This is a happy story where a lot of people are happy for it

And actually according to news outlets Prince Harry and Megan Markel want to have kids right away

But then again maybe ones already on the way, you know honeymoons. Boom Shakalaka. Boom Shakalaka. Boom. Good thing

They didn't record that on another side note

Let's talk about some interesting stories when it comes to the achievements of mankind

Because NASA launched what is called its insight probe to Mars?

which I think is actually a really cool project because this sort of probe is actually gonna drill down into the surface of Mars and

Get some really cool readings

However, when it comes to the insight mission, it's interesting to know that it was originally intended to be launched in 2015

but due to mechanical problems it was postponed to

2016 and then rescheduled to 2018 either way the insight probe launched on may 5th 405 a.m

Pacific Standard Time at the Vanderburgh Air Force Base in California

like I said

what's really fascinating is it's gonna touch down and then it's gonna drill into the ground of Mars and

That's gonna get a lot of different readings. They're gonna get things like heat flow from the planets interior

And of course measure earthquakes that happen on the red planet, of course

They're also gonna try to figure out how the planet like ours wobbles. Just slightly. Mm-hmm. Okay

now this is the part that everybody is waiting for this is the natural disasters that we're gonna talk about that happened in May of

2018 and beginning in May rolling into June was the lower puna hawaiian island eruption

Now this eruption began on May 3rd on the Hawaiian island Kilauea now for scientists

They're actually not sure whether or not this particular

Eruption is kind of a brand-new eruption from this volcano or perhaps it's a continuing eruption from a major explosion that happened on January

3rd

1983 as for this particular volcano

It's one of the more well-known ones of this year as they had lava ejecting up to

300 feet in the air and because of this eruption on May 4th

There was an earthquake of a 6.9 magnitude that ripped through the island

However by May 25th over 20 fissures had erupted lava and over 82 buildings were

Sumed by the volcano's destructive path with over 2,000 people being evacuated from the local region this volcano continues even into June

causing much more damage and

Actually this volcano even got some Twitter love because a man named Jay furred asked if it was safe to roast marshmallows

over of the volcano vent

But of course the United States Geological Survey responded back saying no you do not want to do that

Stay far away from this thing as a funny question

I don't think it was being serious

but

Still now those are some of the big stories. Let's move on to some of the smaller ones that

happened in other countries around the world for example in Ethiopia

There was a major landslide that claimed the lives of 32 people

Now these landslides have been caused by a heavy rains due to a tropical storm

season that hit and with that it's linked ly related to

cyclone cigar which hit countries in the similar region cyclone cigar formed on May

16th in the Arabian Sea and to date it is the strongest tropical storm to have ever hit the country of Somalia

Reaching winds up to 85 miles per hour

Now this hurricane hit countries like Ethiopia

Amman Somalia Djibouti and has so far taken the lives of 55 people until it dissipated on May 20th

2018 and last but not least for all my Indian viewers out there because I know there's quite a lot of you let's talk about

Some severe lightning that happened in the utah pradesh region

Now this is a pretty crazy story

Because there were 33 people who lost their lives from lightning and heavy severe winds on May 29th

the speed of these winds were estimated to be anywhere between 50 and 70 km/h

Knocking over telephones electric poles and wires, but that's not the only thing because on May 2nd

There were also some severe lightning storms that took the lives of people as well

But however, this region has been seeing some severe lightning storms this entire month as a matter of fact on May 2nd

They had lightning storms, which were considered the most lethal lightning storms in over 60 years claiming the lives of 130 people

But what's the reason to this?

well

Of course

Scientists are saying that its global warming that's really causing these temperatures and these severe lightning storms to happen in the first place

But who knows right you guys can just decide for yourself either way, but there you go guys

That's a recap of some of the crazy things that have happened around the world and guys if I missed any stories

feel free to

Let me know down there in the comment section below because who knows maybe I'll just do a part two

I didn't get a chance cuz we have a lot of viewers from Europe and stuff like that

We didn't get a chance to really talk about many kind of things that have happened up there besides the tariff sort of thing

But keep an eye out for next month's guys because I'm gonna recap what's happened this month in June you can rest assure

I mean for all your European guys, we're gonna be talking a lot about FIFO because there's been some crazy stuff like Mexico

Beaten Germany what that's crazy. How does that happened?

Also guys, if you like these videos, please give these a thumbs up because there's a new thing that we're doing we're recapping

So if we get more than 3000 lights than we know to do more of these videos or part twos

So if you want to keep educated from crazy stuff that's happened around the world

but either way hit that subscribe button if you're here leave comments for future videos and be sure to check out our other stuff we

Don't just talk about bad stuff. We'd like to talk about good stuff that happens in other countries around the world

You'll want to check out our playlists because it's so great to be educated

Trust me when you're the smartest person in the room and you're not arrogant about it. Oh my god, it feels so good

Oh, yeah guys, and also if you want to reach out to me personally because sometimes these comment sections just get crazy

Feel free to hit me up on Instagram

You guys can send me a direct message. If you want just don't send me anything inappropriate because

No, anyways, I'm Dave Walpole and I'll see you guys the next one. Bye

Thanks for watching guys

so here's some playlists of countries that you should learn about that are all around the world because like I said,

It's just great to learn about things and really feel educated it. Trust me. You'll feel great about it. See ya. Bye

A future for the Maricopa Community Colleges with Stan - Duration: 1:40.

You know, as I mentioned earlier in my statement

that Maricopa has had a stellar reputation

in the Unites States in terms of community colleges.

And when we talk about a vision,

we're talking about a state that will never achieve

and you're constantly achieving greatness.

So one would be to further work

with the state legislature

to return funding to the community colleges.

I bet if we take a look at the decrease

in funding from the state, I bet there's a correlation

with increase in property taxes,

increase in student tuition.

Now, the board is to be commended,

at its last board meeting,

reducing student tuition by one dollar.

They are to be commended

to providing the stipend to the faculty.

They are to be commended

to providing a raise to

the adjunct faculty.

So those things are to be commended

but when we look at the total picture,

when you look at the total picture is, are we striving

to be the best community college in the district?

And the role that trustees should be able to play

to assure that, and to hold the Chancellor

and others accountable to make us move into that direction,

as being the best community college in the world.

BCS Tractor and Flail Mower - The Project List - Duration: 8:50.

hi I'm Mike over the past few weeks we've been concentrating on the building

of the high tunnel but this week we're going to take a little break from that

project and get you into the loop on a brand new tool that we've just received

here on the ranch our BCS two-wheeled tractor stick around

because today we're going to put it to work on the project list on our wyoming

life

welcome back to the project list each week we have projects piling up some

weeks more than others and to be honest over the last couple weeks I've felt a

little bit overwhelmed we managed to squeeze in a little vacation but when

you come back everything's still here waiting for you on the horizon let's see

we have branding coming up soon this weekend in fact if the weather holds out

for us we also have hang just around the bend and that'll keep us busy for at

least a couple weeks we hope that you're able to come along with us for all of it

so please subscribe and join us as we explore the ranch life and escape the

ordinary I almost forgot we have the high tunnel another big project that's

still not completed we have finished framing out both the end walls and start

achieving them as well screwing each one in place then cutting off the excess and

moving on to the next fighting the wind and the weather the whole way I can't

say it's been a lot of fun lately one thing that has been fun has been getting

a new tool on the ranch and before we left for vacation we received our BCS

two-wheel tractor now the original plan was for Aaron to unveil it in the

gardens using the tiller with the precision depth roller or the rotary

plow to create raised beds and she's still going to be doing that coming up

in future videos but today we have an excuse to get it out and get it ready

and put it to work BCS two-wheel tractors are all gear driven commercial

quality machines that powered dozens of PTO implements for all kinds of seasonal

tasks like tilling preparing seed beds mowing clearing snow chipping wood

splitting logs pumping water and a whole lot more

along with our BCS we received four pto driven implements a pressure washer a

tiller and precision roller a rotary plow and a flail mower which is what

we're going to be using today BCS has many different models of tractors

available and the decision of which tractor you need is based on the

implements that you plan on using with it ours is the model 749 featuring three

forward gears and three reverse gears it also has ended

wheel brakes for increased maneuverability and because we got to

flail more as well we needed a machine that could handle a higher torque and

the 749 has a hydro mechanical wet clutch that is much more difficult to

overheat as it's cooled by circulating oil instead of air controls for the BCS

can be a little intimidating but it's not any harder to run than a

standard rototiller and it gives you a ton more versatility today we'll be

concentrating on the Bladerunner 75 flail mower it's 30 inches wide and it's

heavy duty it features rotating Y blades that

basically pulverize whatever your mowing and can tackle everything from grass to

brush to vines and even saplings Aaron's gonna be using this tool to clear up

gardens but for now we're gonna use it to clean Corral's and prepare for

branding and the first thing we need to do is get the tool on to the BCS I found

that doing this can be a little bit tricky but having your implement at the

same height really helps and a block under it props it up and we're able to

slide the flail mower onto the bcs tractor after it's in place the pin is

put down and we're ready to go easy peasy lemon squeezy the crank on

the top of the mower can adjust your height either up or down from 4 inches

to 1/2 inch then it's time to fire up the tractor

the engine is a Honda GX 390 with about 12 horsepower controlling the tractor is

done with the easy to reach hand controls pull it over the brush selector

on the right along with a differential lock the middle is your gear shift and

PTO switch and on the left your parking brake in your kill switch you can also

adjust the handlebar height to whichever height you need to make it comfortable

for you to look with and the handlebars also swing off

in both directions allowing you to work to the side of the machine if you have

to one of the first impressions that I get from the tractor is that it's pretty

smooth it's not as bouncy as tillers that I've used in the past but the proof

is in the pudding as they say and it's time to test it out by the well house

I'd call that a successful test I will say that if you're used to running a

rototiller there is a bit of a learning curve here and I'm gonna take my time

and get used to it let's head into the Corral's and get

tomalak the sorting alley is a light test but it works well for practice

getting used to turning and maneuvering the machine and getting it close to but

not too close to the edge the BCS with the attachment weighs almost 350 pounds

so getting it out of a tight spot can be a little bit of a chore now it's time

for a bit tougher test weaves that have grown up to over three feet tall thanks

to the moisture that we've gotten lately

one great feature of the BCS is the ability to turn the handle and the

controls to be able to suit your environment working along this fence

line the handlebars touch the fence but that's easily fixed

the Brandon Corral itself needs some attention too and although the flail

mower doesn't get right along the fence it still does a great job of knocking

down the bigger grass and the brush that the mower probably wouldn't be able to

handle

but we need a real test and after searching a bit

I find it out by Aaron's apple orchard clover that's grown to over four feet

tall

this thing's pretty fun but it does take some getting used to steering with the

hand brakes can be a little bit challenging but once you get used to it

it really helps the Machine move in and out of tight quarters

so that things a little bit more fun than I then I thought it was going to be

the good thing is that you get a little bit exercise walking behind it so we're

gonna have a lot more coming from the BCS tractor as we go through all of our

implements Aaron gets out to work in the garden she's going to show you more

features and some more really cool things that can do branding is hopefully

this weekend and I hope that you can join us Sunday as we livestream the

entire branding experience just like we did last year it was a lot of fun and I

hope you're going to be able to be there at least for a little bit it's

livestream week so allow me to invite you to join us Thursday night 7:00 p.m.

mountain time as we get a chance to sit down and take some questions and keep

you up-to-date on the channel itself the ranch and everything in between

please subscribe and if you haven't done so and if you have I want to thank you

for being a part of our community era and I are amazed every day every comment

every email and even those that come up to us and thank us it's very humbling

and I want to thank you for that we'll see you again soon hopefully on Thursday

night and until then have a great week and thanks for joining us in our Wyoming

life

Why Stan is running - Duration: 2:16.

I served as a community college CEO for over 20 years.

Started my career as a faculty member teaching sociology

at a historically black college,

in Jarvis Christian College in Texas,

and then came to California where I started teaching

sociology as an instructor, professor,

at Riverside Community College.

I eventually moved into management

and became a community college superintendent president

in 1988 and served as a CEO for the next 20 years.

I retired in 2008 as Chancellor of the West Valley-Mission.

I firmly believe that I really understand

the role of trustees.

Trustees are there to provide direction.

They're there to provide a evaluation of the chancellor,

and to assure that the college is meetings its goals,

and to assure, what I think which is most important,

student success.

I believe that my experience as a community college

president reporting to a governing board for 19 years

have prepared me for this role

in the Maricopa Community College District.

I also learned that Maricopa doesn't receive

any state funding from the state of Arizona,

which is very sad.

And, I think one of the roles that trustees can play,

working collaboratively with all seven trustees

and the trustees throughout the state,

especially from Pima, and working with

the state legislature, working with the Governor,

to bring back funding to the community colleges

here in Maricopa.

So, I believe I have the skill sets,

I believe I have the knowledge,

and I'm prepared to assume this role

as the next trustee representing District Four.

Stan's perspective on the current state the Maricopa County Community Colleges District - Duration: 2:34.

Maricopa has had nationally an outstanding reputation

as a community college district.

We've had teams that have come over here

because of the reputation of the Maricopa

Community College District.

So, first of all, if I had a vision,

my vision is that Maricopa would be the best

community college in the United States,

the best community college system in the nation,

and the best community college system in the world.

The governing board, there's some concerns.

I attended one board meeting where the board made a decision

to eliminate the faculty's meet and confer.

My concern, if I was a trustee,

if I had concerns about the meet and confer,

I would've directed, or asked the trustees as a group

to direct the chancellor to meet with the faculty

to address those concerns that we had as a board.

So, I think those things are important.

The other one was the elimination of football

after the 2018 season at the four colleges

that offer football.

That's going to have a significant impact on students,

and especially young men and what's going to happen

to their transition.

I think when you take a look at some of the recent decisions

that the board have made, now, not being a board member,

not being on the board, not receiving all the data

and information, I cannot be too critical,

but I think what's important is that we

constantly focus on student success.

And, the impact of elimination of football

will have an impact on student success

and how that will impact a certain segment

of the college's population. As well as meet and confer,

and what has happened to the morale.

I think morale is extremely important

within any organization,

and to maintain that is extremely critical

in terms of delivery of quality education.

And, so the board plays a significant role

in assuring of high quality morale,

assuring of student success,

and assuring that funding is adequate

to meet the needs of the colleges.

Stan Arterberry - June 2018 Full Interview - Duration: 10:26.

I served as a community college CEO,

for over 20 years.

Started my career as a faculty member

teaching sociology at a historically black college

in Jarvis Christian College in Texas,

and then came to California,

where I started teaching sociology

as an instructor professor at Riverside Community College.

Eventually moved into management and became

a community college superintendent president, in 1988

and served as a CEO for the next 20 years.

I retired in 2008 as Chancellor of the West Valley Mission.

I firmly believe that I really understand

the role of trustees.

Trustees are there to provide direction

they're there to provide an evaluation of the Chancellor

and to ensure that the college is meeting its goals,

and to ensure what I think

which is most important, student success.

So I believe that my experience

as the community college president,

reporting to a governing board for 19 years

have prepared me for this role

in the Maricopa Community College District.

I also learned that Maricopa doesn't receive

any state funding from the state of Arizona,

which is very sad, and I think one of the roles

that trustees can play

working collaboratively with all seven trustees,

and the trustees throughout the state especially from Pima

and working with the state legislature,

working with the governor to bring back funding

to the Community Colleges here in Maricopa.

So, I believe I have the skill sets,

I believe I have the knowledge and I'm prepared

to assume this role as the next trustee

representing District 4.

Maricopa has had nationally an outstanding reputation

as a community college district.

We've had teams that have come over here

because of the reputation

of the Maricopa Community College District.

So first of all, if I had a vision

my vision is that Maricopa

would be the best Community College in the United States,

the best Community College System in the nation

and the best Community College System in the world.

The governing board, there's some concerns.

I attended one board meeting where the board made a decision

to eliminate the Faculty's meet and confer.

My concern, if I was a trustee,

if I had concerns about the meet and confer,

I would have directed or asked the trustees as a group

to direct the Chancellor to meet with the faculty

to address those concerns that we had as a board.

So, I think those things are important,

the other one was the elimination of football

after the 2018 season at the four colleges

that offer football. That's going to have a significant impact

on students and especially young men,

and what's going to happen to their transition.

So I think, when you take a look at

some of the recent decisions that the board have made.

Now, not being a board member, not being on the board

not receiving all the data and information,

I cannot be too critical.

But I think what's important is that

we constantly focus on student success,

and the impact of elimination of football

will have an impact on student success,

and how that will impact a certain segment

of the colleges' population. As well as meet and confer,

and what has happened to the morale.

I think morale is extremely important

within any organization,

and to maintain that is extremely critical

in terms of delivery of quality education.

And so the board plays a significant role in assuring

of high quality morale, assuring of student success

and assuring that funding is adequate

to meet the needs of the colleges.

As I mentioned earlier, in my statement that

Maricopa has had a stellar reputation in the United States

in terms of community colleges,

and when we talked about a vision

we're talking about a state that will never achieve

and you're constantly achieving greatness.

So one, would be to further

work with the state legislature

to return funding to the community colleges.

I bet if we take a look at

the decrease in funding from the state,

I bet there's a correlation with increase in property taxes

increase in student tuition.

Now the board is to be commended,

at its last board meeting reducing student tuition

by one dollar, they're to be commended

to providing a stipend to the faculty.

They're to be commended to providing a raise

to the adjunct faculty,

so those things are to be commended.

But when we look at the total picture,

when you look at the total picture is are we striving

to be the best Community College in the district?

And the role that trustees should be able to play

to assure that, and to hold the Chancellor

and others accountable to make us move into that direction

as being the best Community College in the world.

The faculty play an essential role,

all employees play an essential role in community colleges.

Your support staff for example,

usually the first person that comes in contact

with a student is a support staff person,

so that's essential.

Your faculty play an incredible role in terms of

the instruction that is delivered to our students.

They play an incredible role

in ensuring success of our students,

and they should play an incredible role

in the governance of the organization.

All staff should be able to participate

in governance of the institution.

I'm not in the classroom, the faculty are in the classroom

so we have to pay a significant importance

on the role of faculty in the delivery of education,

but that doesn't mean we don't play that same important role

to the support staff that supports the faculty.

It's kind of like at one time I was asked a question

and I said, the support staff is the blood

that keeps the organization running.

They're the ones who open up the door,

they're the ones who clean the room.

And the faculty are the ones

who deliver our education for us,

and they should play a significant role

and a major role in governance and decision-making

within the organization.

Student success could mean a lot of things

to a lot of different folks, in terms of

what is it that the student desires?

We could talk about the student's desire

for continued education,

we could talk about the student's desire

for learning of new work skills.

We could talk about the student's desire for personal growth.

So, a college needs to provide the avenues

for students to achieve their desired goals of success.

We need to have for example students who come,

who are not prepared for college.

We need to have developmental education

that would help that student move along.

We need to have what I like to call a seamless transition

from high school, to Community College

to the university system.

What Maricopa is doing in terms of the pathways

could be a way of looking at that.

So we need to talk about how we're going to help students

achieve the goals that the student come to us with.

And those who come to us not prepared,

we need to have the programs and courses

that's going to help them prepare the transition

onto the four-year school.

Now, after we do those things

we have to measure our student outcome.

And how do we measure our student outcome?

We may want to talk about retention,

we want to talk about persistence,

we want to talk about educational attainment,

academic achievement, student advancement.

All of those things need to be reviewed annually

to see how we're moving forward

in terms of our student success.

Now, what would I recommend at the board's level?

I'm just taking a look today at the board agenda,

and as you look at the board agenda

it has on the board agenda for its board item,

recommendation and justification.

Okay, listen to that.

Recommendation and justification.

So the recommendation tends to spell out

what the staff is asking the board to do.

Justification spells out why. What's missing?

What's missing, there should be a statement

or character part in here that talks about Student Success.

If I was a board member,

and the chancellor brought a recommendation to me,

I would ask the chancellor, if I approve this recommendation

how is this recommendation going to improve student success?

Now, by doing that, we're now putting the greater emphasis

on staff, a greater emphasis on the board

to recognize every decision that the board makes

has to improve student success,

and the staff have to be able to explain to me,

why, they're asking me to approve this motion

and how its impacting student success.

So it takes looking at meeting the students' needs,

evaluating the progress that students made

and then assuring that the board recognize

what they're doing at the board table

impacts student success.
