April flowers can bring May showers and it may sometimes bring either good or bad things and as the world is growing constantly
Fast things are always happening
With a world that is always moving and today you're on FTD facts
We are gonna talk about some of the craziest things that happened in May of 2018. Hey everybody. How's it going?
Welcome to FTD facts the channel where we usually talk about people cultures and places from all around the world now
Today, we're gonna do things just a little bit different from what we normally do
like I said
We do videos on
Countries and cultures like if that's kind of your thing and you want to learn about other places from around the world
Well, you want to hit that subscribe button hit that Bell notification because that is what we do here on top of that
We're a big channel where we take a lot of recommendations from you guys
So don't feel afraid to leave them down there in the comments section below
But with that being said today, we are looking back at some of the things that happen around the world in the month of May
2018 now one of the reasons we're starting this up because well as we learn about many different places around the world and their culture
We can understand the struggles that they can go through as well
and we think that's very important when it comes to broadening our understanding of the world you get an
Idea of what other people have been through? So yeah. Anyways, let's get rolling with it now first and foremost
we should look at probably one of the biggest stories that happened in May of
2018 and that was the taxes thing with the United States and the tariffs
this was just absolutely ridiculous in America Donald Trump and his government decided to increase the tariffs by
25 percent to countries like Canada the UK the EU and Mexico
Now these were tariffs that were put on products like steel and this one into effect on June 1st 2018
But I'm throwing it in May because it was announced that it was going to happen on May 31st
2018 and because of this whole thing it actually had major
retaliation against the United States and we got countries even like
Canada who's like my country who were usually like? Yeah United States do whatever you want. We'll just go with you
We're actually being like nah
Not happening and for countries like the EU it plans to retaliate by targeting
2.8 billion euros of products coming from the US and put tariffs on them
Now, of course the EU and many other countries are actually ignoring what the a great American mr
Donald Trump is saying and he's basically stating that hey any country that wants to retaliate against this is gonna, you know be punished
I don't know how you're gonna punish another country
We'll wait and see how that finds out especially due to the fact that you know
You can put all the tariffs you want on steel more steel comes from Luxembourg than any other country in the entire world
So yeah now for Mexico
They actually plan to also put tariffs on three billion dollars of US exports and even Canada has started to retaliate by imposing
Similar dollars on the exports that come from the United States and as a matter of fact, it's gotten so bad
I know America has this great new Donald Trump philosophy of make America great again by having American jobs
Well, the downside is is a lot of Canadians here are like now we don't want to buy American products anymore
So good luck exporting it either way one downside is that people are talking that this may actually cause a huge economic
Recession like it did back in 2008 and we all don't want to see that
I mean that was really do more to the housing market and other markets as well
But this could be another one right around the corner. Thanks Trump now on a lighter note
We also had the wedding of Prince Harry and Meg and Markel which happened on May 19th of the st
George's Chapel in England personally, I was looking forward to this and then I totally forgot to watch the thing to begin with
I just didn't really want to get up early and watch the Royal Wedding
I was kind of hoping that they would do it at night
So then the rest of the world could watch it, but you know, they didn't do that and I just missed the whole thing
But either way, I'm a huge fan of royal weddings. I think it's kind of great that these countries sort of do it. Yeah
Sure. I know some people from the UK agree. Well, it's a waste of tax dollars
But hey, it's a nice old-school tradition sort of thing that other countries from around the world don't have they Canada?
We don't have any royalty unless you're talking about. Dan Aykroyd. That's about it
But either way the wedding itself was huge and had a global audience of 1.9 billion people watching
Which is insane if you think about it, that's 25 percent of the world, even if they were watching for one second
I mean like ding. I mean FIFA beats that but still that's pretty impressive just for a wedding. I mean like it's just crazy
They must have made a lot of money off of average. Yeah, that's where the Royal money is coming from all their weddings
They don't need the tax dollars. This is like a Super Bowl, but when it comes to two people
Getting in. Oh, yeah not porno wise. Sorry, of course
This is a happy story where a lot of people are happy for it
And actually according to news outlets Prince Harry and Megan Markel want to have kids right away
But then again maybe ones already on the way, you know honeymoons. Boom Shakalaka. Boom Shakalaka. Boom. Good thing
They didn't record that on another side note
Let's talk about some interesting stories when it comes to the achievements of mankind
Because NASA launched what is called its insight probe to Mars?
which I think is actually a really cool project because this sort of probe is actually gonna drill down into the surface of Mars and
Get some really cool readings
However, when it comes to the insight mission, it's interesting to know that it was originally intended to be launched in 2015
but due to mechanical problems it was postponed to
2016 and then rescheduled to 2018 either way the insight probe launched on may 5th 405 a.m
Pacific Standard Time at the Vanderburgh Air Force Base in California
like I said
what's really fascinating is it's gonna touch down and then it's gonna drill into the ground of Mars and
That's gonna get a lot of different readings. They're gonna get things like heat flow from the planets interior
And of course measure earthquakes that happen on the red planet, of course
They're also gonna try to figure out how the planet like ours wobbles. Just slightly. Mm-hmm. Okay
now this is the part that everybody is waiting for this is the natural disasters that we're gonna talk about that happened in May of
2018 and beginning in May rolling into June was the lower puna hawaiian island eruption
Now this eruption began on May 3rd on the Hawaiian island Kilauea now for scientists
They're actually not sure whether or not this particular
Eruption is kind of a brand-new eruption from this volcano or perhaps it's a continuing eruption from a major explosion that happened on January
3rd
1983 as for this particular volcano
It's one of the more well-known ones of this year as they had lava ejecting up to
300 feet in the air and because of this eruption on May 4th
There was an earthquake of a 6.9 magnitude that ripped through the island
However by May 25th over 20 fissures had erupted lava and over 82 buildings were
Sumed by the volcano's destructive path with over 2,000 people being evacuated from the local region this volcano continues even into June
causing much more damage and
Actually this volcano even got some Twitter love because a man named Jay furred asked if it was safe to roast marshmallows
over of the volcano vent
But of course the United States Geological Survey responded back saying no you do not want to do that
Stay far away from this thing as a funny question
I don't think it was being serious
but
Still now those are some of the big stories. Let's move on to some of the smaller ones that
happened in other countries around the world for example in Ethiopia
There was a major landslide that claimed the lives of 32 people
Now these landslides have been caused by a heavy rains due to a tropical storm
season that hit and with that it's linked ly related to
cyclone cigar which hit countries in the similar region cyclone cigar formed on May
16th in the Arabian Sea and to date it is the strongest tropical storm to have ever hit the country of Somalia
Reaching winds up to 85 miles per hour
Now this hurricane hit countries like Ethiopia
Amman Somalia Djibouti and has so far taken the lives of 55 people until it dissipated on May 20th
2018 and last but not least for all my Indian viewers out there because I know there's quite a lot of you let's talk about
Some severe lightning that happened in the utah pradesh region
Now this is a pretty crazy story
Because there were 33 people who lost their lives from lightning and heavy severe winds on May 29th
the speed of these winds were estimated to be anywhere between 50 and 70 km/h
Knocking over telephones electric poles and wires, but that's not the only thing because on May 2nd
There were also some severe lightning storms that took the lives of people as well
But however, this region has been seeing some severe lightning storms this entire month as a matter of fact on May 2nd
They had lightning storms, which were considered the most lethal lightning storms in over 60 years claiming the lives of 130 people
But what's the reason to this?
well
Of course
Scientists are saying that its global warming that's really causing these temperatures and these severe lightning storms to happen in the first place
But who knows right you guys can just decide for yourself either way, but there you go guys
That's a recap of some of the crazy things that have happened around the world and guys if I missed any stories
