X-Men Gold #26-28 Review - Duration: 3:47.

Colossus and Kitty talk while the other X-Men team up for a scouting mission.

Rachel spots Mesmero disguised as an old woman.

He's quick though, and grips her telekinietically.

Nightcrawler bamfs him airborne and Rogue stuns him with a punch.

High above the city, Storm zaps him.

Back on the ground, Kurt checks on Rachel, and it's easy to see she's managed to

get a great deal stronger lately..

Meanwhile, Lydia Nance and her sentinel Alpha walk their facility in the Savage Land.

While they scheme up a nanotech mutant extinction plan, Colossus and the X-Men, um.. men.. celebrate

with his bachelor party in Vegas.

With a lot on his mind, he goes to the restroom but encounters Alpha.

The sentinel swarms him and gives him trouble.

Iceman goes after him but struggles with the super quick robot, and it's able to escape

with Piotr Rasputin in tow.

Kitty and the other X-Men are quickly aboard the Blackbird, heading towards the others.

As Lydia outlines her plan to destroy mutantkind to Colossos, Rachel is able to get a bead

on him.

They arrive in the Savage Land and split up, but Alpha is obviously aware of their presence.

IT attacks them on different fronts while Kitty finds and subsequently goes after Lydia.

Unfortunately it's a ruse to buy time, as her sentinel is able to get the drop on them.

Storm uses her new and very convenient Thor hammer to pull them all outside just in time

to see a rocket taking off.

Alpha pilots the ship skyward to somehow extract the Legacy Virus from Colossus's blood.

Back on the ground, Nance tells Kitty about how re-engineering the virus, they'll be

able to deploy nanites to kill anyone who contains the x-gene.

Kitty decks her out, and after some discussion, as well as some help from Alpha Flight, rockets

into space towards an abandoned Roxxon space-station.

Using some evasive maneuvers, they avoid the stations first string of defenses.

Thanks to Thor Storm, the avoid the rest but one slips through.

As the ship crashes on the station's surface, Kitty phases it through the vessel.

The issue wraps with the X-Men scattering through the station.

With the X-Men in battle, Kitty phases through the floor and en route to her fiance.

What happens next though will have to wait, as this issue is left to be continued.

So recently it was announced that both this book and X-Men Blue will be ending in September.

That's kind of good and bad news to me, because not only has Cullen Bunn's series been pretty

good, this book just so happens to be trending upwards.

Still, it's not all that surprising.

With the recent unveiling of a new, unnamed book coming soon, we can only fill our time

with so many X-books.

I give these an 8/10.

Atrial fibrillation: Weight loss reverses heart condition in obesity sufferers

Australian research shows for the first time that obese people who are suffering from atrial

fibrillation can reduce or reverse the effects of the condition by losing weight.

Published in the heart journal Europace, the researchers found that a 10% loss in weight

along with management of associated risk factors, can reverse the progression of the disease.

They studied 355 overweight or obese people who lost varying amounts of weight.

The research was led by the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders at the University of Adelaide

and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

"This is the first time that evidence has been found that if people who are obese and

are suffering from atrial fibrillation the disease can be alleviated by losing weight

and treating lifestyle factors," says lead author Melissa Middeldorp, PhD researcher

from the University of Adelaide's Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), Australia's most common heart rhythm disorder, is a leading

cause of stroke and can lead to heart failure.

Millions of people around the world are diagnosed with this condition every year.

Chest pain, a 'racing' or unusual heart beat and shortness of breath are all symptoms of

AF.

"AF is a progressive disease in which initial short, intermittent symptoms develop into

more sustained forms of the condition.

Obesity and lifestyle factors are associated with its progression," says Ms Middeldorp.

The number of overweight and obese adults has doubled over the past two decades, with

Australia now being ranked as one of the fattest developed nations.

"The study showed that if obese people lose more than 10% of their weight and subsequent

management of other risks to their lifestyle, they can reverse the progression of the disease.

People who lost weight experienced fewer symptoms, required less treatment and had better outcomes.

Those who previously had sustained symptoms experienced only intermittent symptoms or

indeed stopped experiencing AF entirely," says Ms Middeldorp.

"Progression of the disease is shown to have a direct link with the degree of weight loss.

Without weight loss, there is a progression of AF to more persistent forms of AF."

The Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders is led by Professor Prash Sanders, world leader in

atrial fibrillation research.

"This study shows that weight-loss and treating lifestyle factors is an essential component

for effectively managing AF, in many instances being an alternative to surgery or drug intervention.

Melissa's work has widespread implications for the management of this disease globally

and is good news for people with the condition," says Professor Sanders.

"With record levels of obesity in Australia and in most high-income countries, this study

gives hope that obese people can have a better quality of life as well as reducing their

dependence on health-care services if they lose weight."

 The British Medical Association believes the HPV (human papilloma virus) vaccine should be given to youngsters under nine in an effort to catch them before they have sex

 Girls aged 11 and 12 currently receive the HPV vaccine to protect against cervical cancer

 The virus is also a leading cause of oral cancers.  The doctors' trade union has voted for the programme being widened to include "all school age children of both sexes and administered at primary school to be more effective"

 Lucy-Jane Davis, chairwoman of the Bristol division and a public health registrar, said: "This is about protecting men and women from a particularly nasty cancer that can kill them

"   What is HPV? What are the symptoms and why do girls receive the HPV vaccine on the NHS but not boys?  Teenage girls have been offered the jab since 2008 and recent reports suggest teenage boys will soon be given the HPV jab

 The vaccination is available free on the NHS up until girls' 18th birthday.  It is most effective prior to having had sex

 Dr Davis told the annual BMA meeting in Brighton: "There's really good evidence that the vaccine works better if you catch people before they're 16 but what we really need to do is catch them before they have any kind of sexual contact

 "If we can do that in primary school, then we would have universal coverage."
