JUDY WOODRUFF: Turkey held its presidential and parliamentary elections yesterday.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a new term.

And, as William Brangham reports, Erdogan is now armed with sweeping new powers, cementing

his status as Turkey's preeminent leader.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Fireworks erupted over the Turkish capital, Ankara, as news spread last

night of President Erdogan's victory.

RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN, Turkish President (through translator): The winner of this election is

democracy, our nation.

The winners of this election are every one of the 81 million citizens.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Erdogan was first elected president in 2014, after 11 years as prime

minister.

On Sunday, he won just shy of 53 percent of the vote, enough to avoid a runoff with opposition

candidate Muharrem Ince, who finished a distant second.

Ince ultimately conceded, but blasted Erdogan.

MUHARREM INCE, Turkish Presidential Candidate (through translator): Turkey has cut off its

links with democracy.

Unfortunately, it is understood that for a while longer we won't depend on rules and

institutions.

We have entirely transitioned to a one-man regime.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development Party lost its majority in

Parliament, but will stay in power with a coalition partner.

Erdogan will now exercise sweeping new powers that were granted to the presidency in a referendum

last year.

Chief among the changes, the position of prime minister is eliminated, shifting executive

powers to the president.

Erdogan will get to appoint many judges and cabinet officials, positions that were previously

elected.

And he will also be allowed to serve for up to three new terms, potentially until 2032.

STEVEN COOK, Douglas Dillon Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations: He can rule essentially

unfettered.

The opposition is quite concerned that he will use these new powers to rule essentially

unchecked to deepen authoritarianism in Turkey.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Steven Cook is a senior fellow for Middle East and Africa studies

at the Council on Foreign Relations.

STEVEN COOK: Without judicial review, without parliamentary oversight, Erdogan can do what

he wants how he wants it in the name of the transformation of Turkish society.

Turkey is one of the world's leading jailers of journalists in the world, going after academics

who have voiced opposition to the government.

A whole range of people who don't agree with the government have faced legal jeopardy as

a result.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Erdogan has already waged a sweeping campaign against dissent, largely

in response to an attempted coup in 2016.

His government has fired or detained more than 100,000 government officials and shuttered

dozens of newspapers and television stations.

Erdogan's record has caused friction between Turkey and the European Union, but Ankara

retains major leverage.

STEVEN COOK: There is one issue that is putting a brake on European criticism of the conduct

of this election, and that is the presence of almost three million refugees in Turkey.

Erdogan and other Turkish officials have in the past threatened to essentially unleash

refugees from the Middle East on Europe.

They may not happily accept this outcome, but, nevertheless, they won't be too critical

of Erdogan and the new system in Turkey.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: The same holds true for the U.S.

Despite heated disagreement over America's Kurdish allies fighting ISIS in Syria, Steven

Cook says the Trump White House will accept the status quo in Turkey.

STEVEN COOK: As long as the United States can continue to fight the Islamic State, I

think the conduct and outcome of Turkey's election are of secondary, at best, concern

for the Trump administration.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: President Trump has praised the Turkish leader, citing their great friendship

during a meeting in 2017.

For the "PBS NewsHour," I'm William Brangham.

Launching A Filmmaking Career With Short Films by Antoine Allen & Lester Greene - Duration: 7:55.

Hey guys!

This is Antoine Allen, award-winning filmmaker.

And my name is Lester Greene and I'm a producer, actor, and published author.

This is Film Courage, diary series.

[Cultivating Success and Building Your Brand in the Film Industry]

Lester: When I first started auditioning for student films and short films and I met a

director by the name of Rickey Waymer and he gave me my first role.

And ever since then I just fell in love with acting.

I just love the idea of being in front of the camera and being a different character,

that's how I started.

Antoine: I started actually in the music business.

I used to manage up-and-coming talent and I also used to do music videos.

And from there it was a great fill-in but I felt limited.

So I wrote my first short film called SPLIT / DECISION and I won my first award and that

was it, that was like the love, love at first sight.

[How we began collaborating]

Lester: Antione has a feature film called LIFE IS TOO SHORT and Crystal Williams introduced

me to him and told me about the casting call that he had so Antione looked at my reel and

he saw one thing that he liked.

Antoine: Just one.

Lester: It was just one thing and he said "Yeah, I want this guy in my movie."

And so ever since then we've just been knocking out films.

Antoine: Yeah…I cast Lester because as a filmmaker and as a writer you want to get

the top-notch talent you can on our level to make your stories come to life.

So he was in my award-winning feature film LIFE IS TOO SHORT and his role was really

powerful and from there I started doing more films.

I always remembered him.

I said "Lester, you could do so much more."

And sometimes it takes someone to see something in you that you don't see in yourself.

And from there we've just been knocking out short films back to back to fulfill our

brand.

Lester: Yeah, he was just telling me that it's so important to create your own work.

Don't wait for someone to cast you in a film or someone to put you in a web series.

And so we just created…what was that…it was the first short film that we did?

Antoine: So far it was like five short films together.

And a lot of people say "Short films are dead."

It depends who you ask.

So four to five short films.

And what I did was I used those short films to build the Antoine Allen brand and we're

all part of the same brand.

[Build Your Brand]

And each short film won awards, we got short films on TV.

Lester: CBS.

Antoine: CBS.

We had short films show nationally and we won national awards.

And what that does is that builds your brand and builds your calling card.

For me I wanted to give back to the film community in a way that it felt like it would be effective.

So I started my own film festival called Validate Yourself Film Festival.

And the reason I call it validate is because I think for a lot of artists they look for

validation everywhere else except themselves.

I went to a few film festivals when I was traveling the film festival circuit and some

festivals I just didn't like how they were treating filmmakers.

Some times it felt like the filmmaker should be honored to even be at the festival.

A film festival and the filmmaker is partnership.

You can't have a film festival without having filmmakers and a filmmaker needs a festival,

so it's a partnership.

It's not lopsided.

I came from the music business and I realized that if you're a hiphop artist, mixtapes

or demos are kind of like your calling card.

So the short film is kind of like your calling card.

You do enough of it, you flood the market.

I tell people all the time "You have to grind like an indie, but move like a major."

Lester: Ooohhh, say it again.

Antoine: Grind like an indie, move like a major.

Lester: …And move like a major…ooohhh, that's nice.

Antoine: And what that means is as an indie you do whatever you have to do.

Anything that's possible, anything that serves you've got to do it.

Move like a major is just because I have a little bit of money, don't mean my film

should look like an independent film.

Lester: Right.

Antoine: Do what you can to make your film look bigger than what it is.

And like I said, working together and find your partner.

Find someone that you can really connect with.

[Tell A Good Story]

Lester: A lot of people don't have a good story.

I learned that from this guy.

It's so important to have a good story because you'll watch films and it will look pretty.

It will look great on the screen and everything but there is no story, there is no substance,

nobody is reacting to it.

And we just finished shooting a short film called RAW FOOTAGE, right?

And it screened at The Schomburg Center in Harlem [New York] through the Omari Hardwick

Real to Reel Tour right.

And people were watching our short film and they were feeling it, they were laughing,

they were joking around.

And then there was another film that aired right…

Antoine: Crickets!

Lester: Yeah…crickets!

No reaction, no audience reaction.

And it looked great.

Antoine: And honestly the film that was getting crickets looked way better than our's.

Lester: It did.

It looked better.

[Your Film's Success Depends On The Audience]

Antoine: Better writing, better camera.

But…there was no engagement with the audience.

So at the end of the day, your film's success depends on the audience.

Lester: Right.

Absolutely.

Antoine: Not the best camera, not the best colorist because that doesn't sell tickets,

the audience member does.

Lester: Right.

Let me give you another example we screened our film MAMMA'S BOY at Necessary Studios,

right?

And we're watching the film and I'm watching the film for the first time and I was crying.

And Antoine was telling me that people in the audience were crying, too.

It was amazing and that very same film is going to be screening where?

Antoine: At the African-American Academy in Africa.

Lester: In Africa!

Africa guys.

That's an incredible festival.

I didn't even know anything about it, Antoine told me it's like the Oscars in Africa.

Antoine: So we did a story in Queens [New York] that traveled all the way to Africa.

It touched someone all the way in Africa.

So you just never know.

[Use Your Short Films To Market Yourself]

This video is really for you to use your short films as marketing tools.

There are only so many festivals you can submit to, so do things outside of a festival.

Do your own screenings, do your own premieres.

There are a few websites out there that you can submit your films to try and get on TV.

One of them is shorts.tv.

Another one for more African-American filmmakers is AfricanAmericanShortFilms.com.

There are a few other ones out there.

[Get Over Fear]

And there are so many different outlets to show your short films.

My journey of how I accomplished so much, first is I had to get over fear.

Fear is one of the main reasons why most people are living a life they are not happy about.

Once I got over that I had to realize this is my own voice and have faith in myself.

God have me amazing talent and I don't want to waste it.

Right now I am 37 years old.

I officially got into the film business (without stopping, without pausing, without tippy-toeing)

at 31.

Right now I am at 37 and so far I've got one feature film under my belt that won 15

awards (domestically and internationally).

I never traveled outside of the U.S. but my first feature film took me to Spain, France,

I went to Africa.

And also I was in a publication book that is now iTunes for the top 100 indie filmmakers

in the world.

I made number five on the list.

And the bigger accomplishment I think I had was helping other people.

When I saw Lester (when he first met me) he was just trying to find his way.

Now he's an author, award-winning producer, award-winning actor, and that's my bigger

accomplishment.

And all those pieces happened because I listened to myself and God.

[Do Your Research And Continuously Build Your Knowledge]

And also to, research sites like Film Courage.

Film Courage is another tool that I use to get information.

Lester: Oooohh…yeah.

Antoine: So Film Courage, they don't know this but for years I've been watching a

lot of their videos.

I've been taking pieces, here and there and there.

And sites like that are the reason why I'm in the position that I am.

Lester: And I've learned so much from just watching those Film Courage videos.

So kudos to you guys for giving us an opportunity to learn.

Antoine: And the funny part about it, I used to watch those videos and be like "I want

to be on Film Courage one day.

I have courage."

And look now…I'm on Film Courage.

Lester: Right, right.

Antoine: Behind-the-scenes diary, original series.

Lester and Antoine: Peace!

🍎 Master English Swear Words (Preview) "f#ck something up" ~ An Able English creation - Duration: 3:28.

"Fuck something up" means to cause destruction

or make problems with something or someone.

To make an error or harm something important

Let's do some similar and opposite expressions for "fuck something up".

I will say each one and pause so you can repeat after me.

Here we go!

mess something up

damaged something

screw something up

hurt something

ruin something

And now, let's do the opposites.

improve something

develop something

promote progress

enhance something

boost something

Now that we know what "fuck something up" means,

let's see the first conversation again.

We'll also show you it but with safe options

"Fuck something up" is a useful phrase

because people mess things up all the time.

However, it is a bit strong because it contains the word "fuck".

If you're talking to a four year old kid who's finger-painting,

it's probably not a good decision to tell them, "Don't fuck this up!"

It's bad parenting and the kid will probably cry.

When all else fails, use one of the safer options.

or, don't say anything at all.

In this lesson, we studied the phrase "fuck something up".

"Fuck something up" means to cause

destruction or make problems with something or someone.

To make an error or cause harm to something important.

🌼 BIG RED ROOSTER Sound Machine BRRC107 (6 Nature Sounds) SLEEP-MASK NOISE REVIEW👈 - Duration: 7:35.

we have a new sound machine to show you today it's the big red rooster sound

machine and it features six natural sounds to help you fall asleep easier sleep

better and it can be used to mask unwanted noise to help you focus on work

or study

so this big red rooster cell machine is powered either by battery 3 3 double-a

batteries or the AC cord and as I mentioned it features six natural sounds

which I would play in a minute all the buttons are on top easy to read easy to

control the unit itself is pretty compact on lightweight I've used a lot

of sound machines over the years so I want to tell you right off the bat what

I like about this one it can be powered by either AC or DC so either batteries

are or I plug it into the wall and many some machines don't offer that option

now you're either battery-operated or you have to plug them in so this makes

it very convenient for traveling if you choose to moving around or you can just

keep it in place - it's lightweight and very compact it doesn't take up a lot of

space so it doesn't have a big footprint and the third thing that I really like

about it is the control buttons they're all on top and easy to reach and if

you've used a sound machine where the buttons are on the side or they're tiny

then you probably know what I'm talking about how difficult it is to control it

when the lights are dim or when it's dark especially if you have a child

asleep or something and you don't want to wake them and you're trying to turn

it up or down or on or off you can't see what you're doing I really like the fact

that the buttons are all on top and the fourth thing that I really like is that

offers the six natural sounds and that's pretty much what you need I'm going to

run through those sounds in a minute I have had other sound machines that

toggle they like each button or switch toggles

between sounds and it gets very complicated hard to find what you like

so this is just very very easy to turn on and off and easy to control so let me

show you how that works here's a button run to the sounds

that rain

and then there's the volume control you can turn it up and down

and the next sound is Brooke gonna strain on the Brooke very relaxing

soothing sound this song will be good I think for meditation or yoga tai chi no

but you have to use these just asleep some people use them a lot to mask

background I definitely have done baby okay there's thunder I personally don't

find the sound of thunder when I examine particularly but some people really do

enjoy that sound

and then there's white noise which is just kind of like

not highly modulated kind of like a fan noise it's really great for sleeping

really great for babies children and this ocean and who doesn't like the

sound of the ocean I think that would also be good for meditative meditation

and there's a summer night

crickets in the back make you feel like you're out camping

and with the windows down

very nice

here's the timer button right here on the top edge to the power button and the

options are 15 30 or 60 minutes course you can just leave it on

continuously which is what I'd like to do overnight so I guess you could say

call this kind of a minimalist design it's at a very efficient use of space

you got the speaker on the front buttons on the top I like to use sound machines

not just for sleeping but to mask unwanted noise or even sometimes if it's

just too quiet and I'm trying to focus to concentrate

to study to work I'll use it for that and I think that the ocean is a good one

or the white noise that's a matter of personal preference as I mentioned at

the beginning what I really like about this sound machine it's kind of its

simplicity really the fact that it can be powered with batteries or what's a

wall plug the fact that it's a light compact the controller buttons on top

easy to reach and then it has the six sounds which is really all you need not

overly complicated you've got the timer everything is lined up on the top so

it's I am definitely going to replace one of the somme machines that I'm using

with this I have to confess I have two sound machines in my bedroom I've got

one of my office and one that I used sometimes for

meditation so I really do see the utility of these white noise and sound

machines and your song machines and I'm going to you

replace one of the ones that I have in my bedroom with this one because it's so

easy to control in the darker and in the near darkness so this is the Big Red

Rooster sound machine please check the description section below for more

information and thanks for watching

nice summer night

Supreme Court upholds Texas voting districts in racial gerrymandering case - Duration: 4:44.

JUDY WOODRUFF: But first: This term, the U.S. Supreme Court was asked to weigh in on one

long-running political debate.

As Amna Nawaz explains, it's all about what is and isn't allowed when lawmakers draw electoral

districts.

AMNA NAWAZ: Over the past year, the Supreme Court in more than one case has tackled gerrymandering.

Today, the court ruled on a case out of Texas questioning whether the state used racial

discrimination when drawing four state district lines.

"The National Law Journal"'s Marcia Coyle joins me at the table to help us understand.

Marcia, thanks for being here.

MARCIA COYLE, "The National Law Journal": Pleasure.

AMNA NAWAZ: So, let's talk about the case today.

It's about a Texas congressional and legislative map, right?

The allegation was that it was challenged as racial gerrymandering.

What did the court say today?

MARCIA COYLE: Well, the court divided 5-4 along ideological lines.

Justice Alito, joined by four conservative justices, led the court in the majority opinion.

And he -- the majority rejected a lower court's findings that Texas had engaged in racial

discrimination, primarily against black and Hispanic voters, in its 2013 redistricting

map.

Justice Alito said that the evidence of discrimination was insufficient to show that Texas had bad

-- the Texas legislature, which drew the map, had bad faith or had engaged in intentional

discrimination.

AMNA NAWAZ: So, is that really a decision about whether or not this was racial gerrymandering?

MARCIA COYLE: Oh, yes, absolutely.

Justice Alito did say that there was one district, though, that stood out as being racially gerrymandered.

And that was a state house district in which Texas had argued, we had to do it in order

to comply with the Federal Voting Rights Act.

And Justice Alito said there wasn't enough evidence to show that they had to discriminate

against Hispanic voters in that particular district.

AMNA NAWAZ: Justice Sotomayor wrote the dissent, using some fairly strong language here.

And part of what she said was that -- quote -- "The court today does great damage to that

right of equal opportunity, not because it denies the existence of that right, but because

it refuses its enforcement."

That's pretty strong language when it comes to something like this.

MARCIA COYLE: It is.

And she is very passionate when it comes to racial discrimination in voting or even in

the criminal justice system.

The dissenters that she led really had a difference of opinion with the majority over what the

lower court found.

Justice Sotomayor said that the majority here today had mischaracterized the lower court's

findings and that there was ample evidence the Texas legislature acted in bad faith and

intentionally discriminated.

AMNA NAWAZ: So, this wasn't the only gerrymandering case that the court considered this term,

though, right?

It was the only one dealing with race when it comes to gerrymandering.

MARCIA COYLE: Yes.

AMNA NAWAZ: The other two dealt with partisan gerrymandering.

So where does today sort of fit into the landscape of the way the court has ruled on this issue?

MARCIA COYLE: I really think it stands alone, because the court has dealt with racial gerrymandering

in many contexts over the years and does decide these cases.

The partisan gerrymander cases are different because the court has yet to come up with

a standard or a test to determine when politics goes too far and violates the Constitution

in redistricting.

So, today, they actually had a case from North Carolina that was a challenge to North Carolina's

congressional map, a partisan gerrymander challenge.

And they sent that back to the lower court, saying, reconsider this, in light of a decision

we made this month in a Wisconsin case.

And in that Wisconsin case, again, the court didn't come up with a test.

All it did basically was say what you have to show in order to get your foot in the courthouse

door if you want to challenge partisan gerrymandering.

So, it offered a little bit of guidance, but not a whole lot.

AMNA NAWAZ: So, Marcia, very quickly now, the central question in this seems to be,

does the Constitution forbid gerrymandering, and, if so, where should the court draw the

line?

Do we have an answer to that?

MARCIA COYLE: No, we don't.

And it's really a question of, when is partisanship so excessive that it violates the Constitution?

And the challengers to many of these maps around the country -- and these cases will

keep coming back to the Supreme Court until it does rule -- are -- the basis of the challenges

are, violates the First Amendment, your right of association, violates the 14th Amendment,

your right -- your right not to have your vote diluted for partisan reasons.

AMNA NAWAZ: Marcia Coyle, thanks for being here.

MARCIA COYLE: My pleasure.

How families of gun owners with dementia grapple with safety - Duration: 9:52.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Now: the intersection of guns and dementia.

Around half of all Americans older than 65 live in a home with a firearm.

And one in three senior citizens dies with some form of dementia.

By one estimate, by 2050, as many as 12 million people with dementia may live in homes with

guns.

That is prompting doctors, researchers and family members to ask how to prevent a potential

tragedy.

John Yang reports on this.

It's part of our partnership with Kaiser Health News.

911 OPERATOR: Nine-one-one.

Where's your emergency?

DEE HILL, Shooting Victim: Hi.

This is Dee Hill.

My husband just accidentally shot me.

JOHN YANG: Dee Hill, distress palpable in her voice, called 911 in May 2015.

911 OPERATOR: He shot you?

OK, where are you injured at?

DEE HILL: In the stomach.

He can't talk.

Please.

911 OPERATOR: OK, stay with me.

We're going to get you some help.

JOHN YANG: Dee's husband, Darrell, was at her side, but unable to help.

So, Dee, what happened that day?

DEE HILL: Well, to start with, this was a hospital bed, and he was in a wheelchair.

JOHN YANG: Two years earlier, the former police chief, two-term sheriff and certified gun

safety instructor was diagnosed with rapidly progressive dementia.

DEE HILL: He was always concerned about his guns.

JOHN YANG: About a year before the shooting, Dee reluctantly took away his car keys.

When he still insisted on driving, she sold the car.

When he wanted to check on their guns, she locked them in their safe in a shed behind

the house and changed the combination.

DEE HILL: He asked me every day, where are my guns?

And I would tell him, they're in the safe.

"Well, I want to see them."

I would get him off on another subject.

And that worked for a while, but then pretty soon he was just almost obsessive about seeing

his guns.

JOHN YANG: Like many with dementia, Darrell had good days and bad days.

After Mother's Day, he was doing so well that Dee relented.

She took out the revolver he used for target shooting and the Glock pistol he carried as

a sheriff, checked to see if they were loaded, and placed them on the table in front of his

wheelchair.

DEE HILL: He reached for the pouch that it was in, knocked it on the floor.

I bent down to pick up the pouch.

And just as I was coming up, I heard the gun go off.

JOHN YANG: She had missed a round that had been left in the Glock's chamber.

It was now lodged in Dee's back.

Darrell's dementia was so advanced that he wasn't aware of what had just happened.

DEE HILL: He didn't realize the gun had gone off.

It just didn't even faze him.

And I convinced him.

I asked him to get me the phone.

And he said: "Why do you want the phone?

Who are you going to call?"

And I said, "Well, I'm going to call the ambulance."

"Oh, OK."

JONEL ALECCIA, Kaiser Health News: He had like six or seven guns at that time?

DEE HILL: Yes.

JONEL ALECCIA: Yes, OK.

JOHN YANG: For months, Kaiser Health News reporter JoNel Aleccia has led a team looking

into the deadly combination of guns and dementia, uncovering dozens of stories like Dee's from

across the country, family members shot and even killed by loved ones suffering from dementia,

as well as suicides by people with dementia, which experts consider an even bigger problem.

JONEL ALECCIA: We have found reports of people who were sleeping, people with dementia sleeping

with firearms under their pillows, and then having to have the guns taken away, because

they were a danger to themselves or others.

JOHN YANG: How widespread is this problem?

JONEL ALECCIA: You know, the interesting thing is that no one really knows.

But what we do know is that people older than 65, about 45 percent of them live in homes

with guns.

And we also know that about one in 10 people older than 65 has Alzheimer's disease.

And so the trajectory of those two numbers shows that there could be some concerns going

forward.

JOHN YANG: In Dee Hill's case, it had near tragic results.

She spent seven weeks in the hospital and had three operations.

DEE HILL: I lost a kidney, part of my stomach, my colon.

The doctor said he took out everything but my gallbladder, and he wish he had done that.

JOHN YANG: Darrell died a year after the shooting, never realizing, Dee says, what had happened.

DEE HILL: He knew I was hurt.

He knew I was sick, but he didn't have a clue why.

And I'm grateful for that.

JOHN YANG: Families with both a gun and a loved one with dementia in the household can

find themselves facing some tough choices without a lot of guidance.

Some find themselves making it up as they go along.

In Eastern Idaho, that's the approach Delmar and Verg Scroughams take as they try to avoid

what happened to Dee Hill.

Delmar is a retired homebuilder, known for his hobby restoring vintage carriages.

VERG SCROUGHAMS, Wife of Dementia Sufferer: "Of course, they did not see my gun and did

not expect me to shoot."

JOHN YANG: His dementia diagnosis came in 2013.

Not long after, he decided on his own that he should stop driving.

Verg began to worry about their guns as his condition worsened, and he showed signs of

aggression, a common symptom of dementia.

VERG SCROUGHAMS: One night, he grabbed my arm.

And if he could have got my left arm with my right arm held in his one hand, he would

have hit me.

I have no doubt he would have hit me.

My husband in his right mind would never lift a hand against me.

Never.

JOHN YANG: And he wouldn't always recognize his wife of 45 years as he sat in his lounge

chair beside a table where he kept a loaded pistol for protection.

VERG SCROUGHAMS: It's the only time it has happened that I woke him up out of a sleep

and he says, "Well, who are you?"

And I said, "Well, I'm your wife."

And then I started thinking about it, that, if he didn't know who I was, I feel that,

with those events happening, that it was safest to take the gun.

JOHN YANG: Together, they agreed to sell or give away many of their guns, lock up the

remaining rifles, and hide the revolver.

DELMAR SCROUGHAMS, Dementia Sufferer: I got a disease that it's going to end up killing

me, and, you know, I had a bad day, and I could hurt somebody.

JOHN YANG: Was there anyone who was giving you advice, guidance on this, a doctor, or

clergy?

VERG SCROUGHAMS: I never thought about the doctor bringing it up, because the doctor

doesn't even know we have guns.

DR.

EMMY BETZ, University of Colorado, Boulder: I think the role of physicians is really helping

families be aware of the issues that are going to be coming.

JOHN YANG: Dr. Emmy Betz is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of

Colorado, Boulder, and a co-founder of the Colorado Firearm Safety Coalition.

She studies guns and dementia.

DR.

EMMY BETZ: So, getting them thinking about all of the issues they need to address, so

firearms, driving, home safety, access to power tools, and the kitchen and the gas stove,

all those kinds of things.

JOHN YANG: Betz says many physicians wrongly believe they're prohibited from asking their

patients about firearms in the house.

DR.

EMMY BETZ: Currently, there is no state or federal law that prohibits health care providers

from talking to patients or asking about firearm access in the home.

As a health care provider myself, I think it's really important.

JOHN YANG: In fact, there are few laws across the nation that deal specifically with the

problem of dementia and guns.

No federal law that bars a person with dementia from owning guns, unless a court rules them

incapacitated.

And just two states specifically mention brain diseases in their gun laws: Hawaii prohibits

someone with dementia from owning a gun.

Texas simply prevents someone with a diagnosis from obtaining a public carry permit.

DR.

EMMY BETZ: It really comes back to, this is something that families are dealing with.

It's not currently something that's going to be fixed by policy.

JOHN YANG: Eleven states currently have so-called red flag laws, allowing authorities to temporarily

seize guns from people deemed dangerous, including those with dementia.

At least six other states are considering similar legislation.

VERG SCROUGHAMS: We agreed in one of his more lucid moments that we should -- that I should

hide his loaded pistol.

JOHN YANG: Verg Scroughams' advice?

Talk about the guns soon after someone is diagnosed with dementia, so that the person

plays a role in deciding what to do about them.

VERG SCROUGHAMS: Have these discussions and make these decisions before your loved one

no longer knows anything, because that makes it more difficult.

And it's more demeaning.

I want to keep his dignity as long as we can, because I love him.

He's my life.

DEE HILL: And that wedding dress was the only one I could find.

JOHN YANG: Dee and Darrell Hill were married for 58 years.

She felt she couldn't do anything with her husband's guns without his consent while he

was alive, but his condition deteriorated so quickly that she never had that conversation.

After Darrell died, she sold the guns.

One is still waiting for the buyer to get a gun permit.

She keeps it in the safe, along with the bullet that lodged in her back.

Do you regret or have second thoughts about bringing the guns out that day?

DEE HILL: No.

I mean, that sounds stupid, but, no, I don't.

He spent darn near 40, almost 50 years in law enforcement, and a gun was always with

him.

And to deprive him of not even seeing them, in my heart of hearts, I couldn't deny him

that, not any longer.

JOHN YANG: It's a dilemma that more families across the country will find themselves facing.

For the "PBS NewsHour," I'm John Yang in The Dalles, Oregon.

ABSURD THINGS OUR BOSSES ASKED US TO DO | Dolan True Stories - Duration: 8:04.

• From shitting on a co-worker's computer to screwing the bosses wife, the Planet Dolan

crew re-enact some of the best true stories from our subreddit about the craziest things

our bosses ever asked us to do.

I'm Nixxiom and today I'll be your narrator.

Number 9 was submitted by Doe-dippitey Hellbent

One time, Hellbent worked at an auto body shop.

While he was working on a car, his boss went up to him, which didn't surprise Hellbent

because he was known to be a lazy employee.

Instead, his boss seemed nervous, saying very quietly, "Will you fuck my wife while I

watch?"

Hellbent politely declined, but watched as his boss went to one of the other guys.

He heard one of his co-workers yell, "Hell yeah!

She's hot!"

Hellbent believes that everyone but him fucked the boss's wife, since his boss would go

to an employee every once in a while to ask.

Number 8 was submitted by Drawkillfoxygamer360 Dean, the Time Wanderer

Dean was working the night shift at a business office when his boss went up to him.

He asked him to shit on his co-worker's computer.

When Dean asked why, his boss told him that he wanted him to quit, and that he would pay

him 700 dollars if he did it.

Since he needed the money, and despite the co-worker also being a friend, Dean did what

his boss asked him to do and took a shit on the computer.

The next morning, his co-worker saw the pile of shit on his computer and immediately quit.

Number 7 was submitted by Idx_K3 Grgak

One time, Grgak worked at an adult video store.

His boss e-mailed him one day, asking him to go to his house and bring him some things.

Grgak thought his boss had been hurt, because he told him to go to grab some bandages, a

bag of pills, and a grocery bag on his stove.

Then he went to another address that his boss gave him, which was to another adult video

store.

When he got there, Grgak was directed to go to the VIP room, which was where his boss

was.

He entered the VIP room and saw a hole on the wall.

It turned out that his boss had stuck his dick into the hole… but found out too late

that it had been 'treated' by a guy.

When he found out, his boss had some kind of reflex, getting himself stuck in the hole.

So, he told Grgak to push it out from the other side.

Not wanting to touch his boss's dick, he went to his boss's side and pulled instead.

It eventually "popped out" and, while doing so, his boss hurt his dick and told

Grgak to bandage it, which he did.

The pills in the bag were Viagra and other pills that stopped erections.

The grocery bag was full of magazines and some weed, too.

It's a job that Grgak now leaves off his résumé.

Number 6 was submitted by FluffyFurry_097 Andiemations

Andie once worked in a restaurant with one of her friends, who worked as a waiter.

One time, he dropped the food on the floor.

When Andie went to clean it up, her friend ran away… and her boss came up and got angry.

He blamed her for dropping the food, and punished her by demanding that she eat the food from

off the dirty floor.

If she didn't, then she would be fired.

Since she was broke, Andie decided that it would be best to obey her boss.

Her boss was surprised that Andie ate all the food that was dropped, and gave her 100

dollars.

Number 5 was submitted by We_girls_game Honeybits

When she was 16, Honeybits worked at Wal-Mart.

It went all right for the first couple of weeks, until one day when her boss pulled

her aside.

Confused, she asked him why he wanted her.

He told her to be quiet and to not ask any questions.

That scared her.

He brought her into his office and told her to sit down.

Her boss proceeded to tell Honeybits that his girlfriend broke up with him, and that

he missed her every night.

Shocked, and thinking he wanted her to be his ex-girlfriend's replacement, Honeybits

yelled and jumped out of her chair… but her boss grabbed her arm and pulled her back

down.

He continued to explain that he didn't want her that way, but instead told her to bring

the female customers into his office so he could have sex with them.

Terrified, Honeybits nodded and left.

She then pulled out her phone and called the police.

Number 4 was submitted by Squeak_Attack Cidius

Back in high school, Cid worked at a taco stand in an amusement park.

A week after he started working there, his boss threw a box of gloves on the counter

in front of him.

He told Cid to fill five with sour cream and five with ranch dressing.

Thinking it was a joke, Cid ignored him, but then his boss came back about ten minutes

later and demanded to know where his gloves were.

Nervous, he did what his boss told him to do.

He tied the bottoms of the gloves shut before putting them in the refrigerator.

It turned out that his boss only wanted the gloves filled so he could squeeze the contents

of each one into the condiment bottles.

Although Cid thought it was a smart idea in hindsight, he still wonders why his boss didn't

just tell him in the first place.

Number 3 was submitted by PrestontheWerewolf14 Derek

One of the craziest things Derek's boss asked him to do was go to the diner next door

and tell the waitress to put her hand in his pants.

His boss offered him 100 dollars to do it, so Derek went to the diner and told the waitress

the situation.

Strangely, it turned out that the waitress was his boss's daughter.

She put her hand in his pants in a heartbeat, and Derek received his 100 dollars.

Number 2 was submitted by 4Corry MKyleM

MKyleM worked for a boring insurance company when his boss came up to him one day.

He told MKyleM something surprisingly interesting.

It was something that probably wasn't too interesting to the average person, but in

a boring insurance office it was cool.

His boss told him that he wanted him to sing to his plants and fish.

Just for singing country music to his boss's plants and fish so they would grow better

and stay healthy, MKyleM got some good bonuses.

boss ever asked me to do?

DOMINION 6.9...

WHAT A FREAKIN' PPV

I KNOW A LOT OF DAYS HAVE PASSED

I MIGHT BE UPLOADING THIS ON FRIDAY JUNE 22ND

THIS PPV HAPPENED ON JUNE 9TH

IN THE OSAKA JO HALL

WHAT A FREAKIN' EVENT

NOT EVERY MATCH WAS PERFECT

BUT THE LAST ONES

I WANNA TALK ABOUT THE MAIN MATCHES LIKE THE TAG TEAM TITLE ONE,

INTERCONTINENTAL

AND THE IWGP WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING GRAND PRIX

LOOK AT THAT OPEN ENGLISH MAN

REALLY THIS PPV SURPRISED ME A LOT

I HAD HIGH EXPECTATIONS BUT TBH THEY EVEN OVERPASSED THEM

LET'S START

THE TAG MATCH. EVIL & SANADA VS THE YOUNG BUCKS

TBH IT WASN'T TOO

INCREDIBLE, BUT IT WAS A WELL EXECUTED MATCH

THE YOUNG BUCKS CAME FROM THE JR DIVISION, THEY WERE 7 TIMES CHAMPS IF MY MEMORY DOESN'T FAIL

AND THEY ENTERED THE HEAVY DIVISION

IT WAS GOOD TO SEE THEM WIN

EVIL AND SANADA DID GREAT, BUT YOUNG BUCKS

EVEN WITH THE INJURIES THAT THEY SOLD VERY GOOD

END UP WINNING IN A MATCH THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW EXACTLY IT LASTED, LIKE 15 MINS.

NO, I DON'T REMEMBER, A LOT OF DAYS HAVE PASSED

I'M RECORDING THIS ON 14, PPV WAS ON 9TH

I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO RECORD UNTIL TODAY... THE JR TITLE MATCH

HIROMU TAKAHASHI

INCREDIBLE

WILL OSPREAY TOO, AMAZING, I MEAN...

AMAZING, AMAZING, HIROMU

ALWAYS KILLING HIMSELF AND HIS OPPONENT

SOME VERY GOOD SPÒTS

LIKE THE ONE WHEN OSPREAY... I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH HE RAN

AND HOW DID HE SAULT FROM THE RAMP

AMAZING REALLY

HIROMU GOT THE VICTORY WITH A

FINALE VERY SIMILAR TO THE ONE ON THE JR. HEVYWEIGHT FINALS

THE SUP. JR. TORUN... NO, WHAT'S THE NAME... YES, BEST OF SUPER JRS.

THE SAME WAY HE BEATED

ISHIMORI, HE USED IT TO

END OSPREAY, WILL WAS A VERY GOOD CHAMP

THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE, JERICHO

NAITO, VERY GOOD MATCH TOO

WE START WITH A NEW LOOKING JERICHO

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, IT'S AWESOME HOW HE KEEPS CHANGING

HE DOESN'T STAY

ON THE SAME THING LIKE IN WWE WITH THE LIST AND ALL THAT STUFF

IN JAPAN WE ARE WATCHING

HOW CREATIVE JERICHO IS

HOW HE CAN...

DO DIFFERENT STUFF AFTER SO MUCH YEARS

OF CARREER, HE FIGHTS SINCE 90'S, HE DEFINITELY

IS THE BITW, TETSUYA NAITO

HE DIDN'T DO SO MUCH AT THE START

THEN HE RECOVERED WITH HIS COMMON MUVES

THEN HE CHOKED HIM WITH HIS SUIT

THAT JERICHO DIDN'T LET HIM TO TAKE OFF

BECAUSE HE KEPT PUNCHING HIM

UNTIL THEY RINGED THE BELL, AND AT THE END JERICHO

ENDS UP WINNING THE TITLE, DISTRACTING THE REFEREE

AND LOW BLOWING TETSUYA AND THEN CODEBREAKER

1 2 3 JERICHO NEW CHAMP, CANADA INVEDING NJPW

NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING

AND WE GO TO THE MAIN EVENT THAT IS

WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT

AND REALLY MAN, THIS

WAS AWESOME, I WOULDN'T LIE SAYING

THAT I THINK THIS IS THE BEST MATCH I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY F'N LIVE, OMEGA VS OKADA

I THINK DAVE MELTZER OVERRATES THEM TOO MUCH

I DON'T THINK THE MATCHES DESERVE 6 STARS

MAYBE THIS ONE DOES, BUT THE OTHERS NOPE

I THINK THIS ONE WOULD OVERPASS 5

THE SECOND MAYBE, THE THIRD MATCH I DON'T KNOW

AND THIS ONE DEFINITELY DESERVES TO OVERPASS 5

ME PERSONALLY, ACCORDING TO MY STANDARDS

NOT DAVE'S STANDARDS

BECAUSE EVEN WHEN HE IS SO EXPERIENCED, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE ABSOLUTE TRUE

I WOULD SAY,

THIS MATCH DESERVES 5.5 STARS

OVERPASSING THE 5 STARS

VERY GOOD SPOTS, KENNY'S AWESOME

AS ALWAYS, KAZUCHIKA OKADA, GOOD RESILENCY

64 MINS OF AN

AWESOME FIGHT, GOOD ENTRANCES

THE OKADA ONE, NORMAL, LIKE THE TYPICAL OKADA ENTRANCE,

THE OMEGA ONE, VERY GOOD, WITH THIS

AVENGERS TYPE SCENE

WITH SOME REFERENCES TO ANOTHER MOVIES, THIS BULLET CLUB LOGO

DISAPPEARING, THIS STORY OF KENNY OMEGA

LOOSING EVERYTHING, BUT REUNITING WITH KOTA IBUSHI,

THIS WAS A LONG AND GOOD STORY

AND AWESOME BUILD UP

I SAW COHERENCE IN EVERYTHING

AND NOT ONLY THE STORY, ALSO THE MATCH

GOOD SPOTS, THINGS THAT

LEAD US TO THE PREVIOUS MATCHES

THIS STORY OF KENNY OMEGA TRYING TO HIT ONE WINGED ANGEL

UNTIL THE 3RD MATCH

WHERE HE DID IT AND WON WITH THE FIRST ONE

AND THIS CONTINUED

DURING THE 3 FALLS, THIS WAS A 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS MATCH

IT REMEMBERED ME JOHNNY VS TOMMASO

BECAUSE WE SAW

THINGS WE'VE ALREADY SEEN, BUT WITH DIFFERENT ENDING

IDK IF YOU REMEBER JOHNNY VS CIAMPA AT CWC

JOHNNY WON AND AT THE END THEY HUGGED

THE SAME HAPPENED AT TO NO

WITH THE ENDING BEING

CIAMPA TRYING TO ATTACK

BUT GARGANO LOCKED HIM WITH HIS OWN KNEE PROTECTION

WELL, WE SAW

A LOT OF THINGS, AND SCENES

THAT WE'VE ALREADY SEEN IN THE PREVIOUS FIGHTS

LIKE OMEGA COLLAPSING AT THE KAZUCHIKA'S RAINMAKER

IN THIS CASE WE SAW

HOW OMEGA COLLAPSED

TRYING TO DO THE ONE WINGED ANGEL

AND THEN OKADA COLLAPSING DOING THE RAINMAKER

NOW IT WAS INVERTED, AND YES, WE SAW A LOT OF THINGS THAT

WATCHING THEM ON THE FIRST TIME, IF YOU

HAVEN'T SEE THE PREVIOUS FIGHTS, HEN YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND THEM TOO WELL

BUT IT REALLY SURPRISED ME BECAUSE

THESE GUYS MADE ME TO KEEP INTERESTED ON THEIR MATCH FOR 64 MINS

I DID NOT STOPPED WATCHING

TV A SINGLE MOMENT

ALSO THAT SPOT OF OKADA TRYING A CROSSBODY

ON THE PART IN FRONT OF THE CROWD

AND OMEGA DOING V-TRIGGER

EXTREME MOMENTS

NOT USING WEAPONS, JUST HARD-HITTING MOVES

DANGEROUS MOVES

IN DANGEROUS PLACES LIKE THE TOMBSTONE ON THE APRON

THE ONE V-TRIGGER I ALREADY MENTIONED

OMEGA'S PLANCHA ONTO THE CROWD'S FRONT SIDE

AND DEFINITELY NEW JAPAN SHOWS US HERE

HOW A PPV IT'S DONE

BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE WWE DON'T KNOW

THEY DON'T KNOW, WE ALL KNOW THAT ON A PPV

THE THING PEOPLE WILL TALK MOST ABOUT IS THE MAIN EVENT

AND BECAUSE OF THAT THE MAIN EVENT HAS TO BE THEIR MAIN FOCUS

THEY HAVE TO DO IT RIGHT

GIVING CROWD WHAT THEY WANT

OR AT LEAST DOING SOMETHING TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE

BUT WWE DON'T GIVE US THAT

AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES A LOT OF PEOPLE STARTING TO LOOK TO OTHER COMPANIES LIKE NJPW

BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE WWE

FORGOT HOW TO DO PPVS

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER WM30, VERY GOOD PPV

GOOD MANAGE AND RHYTM

VERY GOOD OPENER, GOOD MATCH ARRANGEMENT

STARTING WITH D-BRY VS HHH

TO DEFINE THE MAIN EVENT, WITH BRYAN VICTORIOUS AND THIS STORY OF TRIPLE H ATTACKING HIM

HURTS HIS SHOULDER, THEN THEY PUT

AN IMPORTANT MATCH, THE UNDERTAKER'S STREAK

WITH THIS SURPRISE

BROCK LESNAR BREAKING THE STREAK

AND THEN THE WOMENS MATCH, THEN THE M.E.

I THINK IT WAS GOOD, BECAUSE THE STREAK GETTING OVER WAS SHCOKING

AND YOU KNOW THAT MATCH WAS NOT GOING TO BE FAST, FLUID, ENTERTAINING, DUE TO THE AGE OF TAKER

YOU PUT IT BEFORE THE M.E.

AND NOT IN THE M.E.

AND THEN THE WOMENS MATCH THAT YOU KNOW PEOPLE

WON'T BE INTERESTED BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT

A GOOD STORY, AND THERE WERE NOT TOO GOOD WOMEN WRESTLERS LIKE TODAY

AND THEN THE M.E. GIVING CROWD WHAT THEY WANT WITH BRYAN WINNING

THE WORLD TITLE AGAINST BATISTA AND ORTON

IN A... GOOD MATCH

AND THAT MADE WM30 SO GOOD

WITH AN ENTERTAINING M.E. AND ENDING, AND

AND ENDING THAT FANS WANTED

BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WWE FORGOT THIS, NEW JAPAN

GAVE US AN ENTERTAINING M.E.

GOOD DURATION, BOTH WERE AMAZING

UNPREDICTABLE THINGS LIKE OKADA WINNING THE 1ST FALL

THEY WERE FOCUSING A LOT ON THAT, SAYING THE FIRST FALL WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT

THING THAT ALSO PLAYED ON THE FEEL FACTOR,

AND IN HOW PREDICTABLE OR UNPREDICTABLE THE MATCH WOULD BE

KNOWING THIS GUY THAT WERE CHAMP FOR 700 DAYS

WITHOUT LOOSING THE TITLE, WON THE FIST FALL

NOT EVEN DOING

HIS FINISHER

THE RAINMAKER, AND THEN THE OTHER MAN HAD TO BEAT HIM 2 TIMES

AND KNOWING HE DOES HIS FINISHER RARELY

AS I SAID BEFORE, THIS STORY OF HIM NOT BEING ABLE TO DO IT

OKADA ALWAYS FOUND A WAY TO

COUNTER IT, THAT STORY

MAKE US ALL THINK OKADA WAS GOING TO WIN

AND WHEN KENNY DOES THE O.W.A.

AND WINS

INSTEAD OF WINNING LIKE OKADA DID

IN THE FIRST FALL

MAKES YOU THINK OMEGA WON'T BE ABLE TO DO IT AGAIN LATER

THAT'S THE CONSEQUENCE

THAT YOU THINK SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN BUT ANOTHER THING HAPPENS, THAT'S THE SURPRISE FACTOR

IT'S WHAT I THINK MAKES WRESTLING SPECIAL

COMPARING IT TO OTHER SPORTS

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

AND IT'S WHAT WWE IS FORGETING,. THEY DON'T ARRANGE THEIR MATCHES LIKE THEY SHOULD

AND THEY PUT MATCHES THAT

NO, LIKE IN THIS YEAR'S BACKLASH

THAT SAMOA VS. REIGNS WAS THE M.E.

HAVING GOOD MATCHES ON THE EVENT LIKE

SHINSUKE VS. AJ THAT WAS FOR THE MAINTITLE OF WWE

THE MAIN TITLE AND THEY GIVE MORE RELEVANCE TO A GUY THAT PEOPLE

DON'T WANT

VINCE DOES NOT UDNERSTAND

YO GO HOPING TO SEE A GOOD PPV

LIKE THE NEXT MITB

THAT WILL BE THIS SUNDAY

ONCE THIS IS UPLOADED MITB SHOULD HAVE ENDED

YOU HAVE THAT HOPE OF HAVING A GOOD PPV

GOOD ENDING, UNPREDICTABLE,

AND ENDS UP BEING NOTHING LIKE THAT, ENDS UP BEING DISGUSTING

I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE I CAN CALL IT

THE LAST WM HAD GOOD MATCHES TOO AND THE M.E.

RUINED EVERYTHING

CHARLOTTE VS ASUKA SHOULD'VE BEEN A BETTER M.E.

AND IN BACKLASH THE M.E. COULD'VE PERFECTLY BEEN NAKAMURA VS AJ, BUT NO

YOU CARE MORE ABOUT ROMAN VINCE

IF WWE KNEW HOW TO MANAGE THEIR STARS, DO GOOD STORIES,

GOOD FIGHTS LIKE THIS ONE

ARRANGE THEIR MATCHES CORRECTLY, NOT NECESARILY

PUT ROMAN ON THE M.E.

BUT PUT THE MATCH THAT SHOULD BE ON THE M.E.

IF THAT HAPPENED, PEOPLE WOULD BE MORE INTERESTED

IN PPVS

BUT THEY ARE FN' UP MORE AND MORE

AND THEY KEEP HIRING,

WASTING MONEY, BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO MANAGE THEM

BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT WHEN YOU HAVE MUCH TALENT

AND OTHER IS KNOWING HOW TO MANAGE IT

WWE HAS A LOT OF TALENT, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO MANAGE IT

AND WHEN YOU CAN'T MANAGE IT,

IT'S USELESS TO HAVE SO MUCH TALENT

THAT'S WHY I CONSIDER THAT TODAY, NJPW IS 100000000 TIMES BETTER THAN WWE

AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME TO END UP WATCHING THIS, BECAUSE REALLY

IF I WERE A WWE LOVER AND DIDN'T WATCH THIS

HOW MUCH I WOULD'VE MISSED...

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS FIGHT, WATCH IT

THESE TWO ARE, FOR ME,

2 LEGENDS, I CAN CALL THEM

PERFECTLY,

2 OF THE BEST IN HISTORY

THE 2 BEST OF OUR GENERATION

THE ELITE CHANGING THE WORLD

AND THAT'S ALL, I WANTED TO EXPRESS MYSELF

SAY MY OPINION, IT'S BETTER TO DO IT LATE, THAN NEVER

OF THIS PPV, WHY I LIKED IT A LOT

WHAT WWE HAVE BECAME TODAY

AND SEE YOU SOON, GOODBYE

AND KENNY OMEGA IS THE NEW CHAMP PERROS!!!! :v
