Under Trump, immigration hawks learn the 'Art of the Deal'

When Congress returns, negotiations over Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals former President

Obamas directive to shield some young undocumented immigrants from deportation will resume

and intensify.

President Trump gave lawmakers a March 5 deadline to codify DACA in some form, but the programs

supporters worry about the thousands of beneficiaries who could lose their work permits if it takes

that long.

The familiar pattern has been for immigration hawks to hold up any bill offering legal status

to a significant number of illegal immigrants until their demands for border security and

interior enforcement are satisfied; legalization boosters point to the enforcement measures

already in their legislation as proof these demands are insatiable and cast the restrictionists

as anti-amnesty absolutists.

Under Trump, the immigration conversation has broadened.

Immigration hawks in Congress are offering to combine elements of bipartisan bills that

would protect DACA beneficiaries from deportation in some cases, even bestowing a more permanent

legal solution  with specific restrictionist policy proposals: limits on family reunification;

penalties for municipal authorities who dont help enforce federal immigration detainer

orders, known as sanctuary cities; stronger E-Verify to add teeth to prohibitions against

hiring illegal immigrants.

Were offering a package that [Democrats] should support and in return theyre threatening

to shut down the government, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said on the Senate floor earlier this

month, describing a compromise as good for those DACA recipients.

Some of the staunchest immigration restrictionists in Congress are willing to support what theyve

previously defined as amnesty legalization, even a potential path to citizenship, of a

class of undocumented immigrants with no waiting period as part of a deal.

No one is eager to deport 690,000 illegal immigrants who are here mostly through no

fault of their own, Cotton said.

They were left in legal limbo by President Obama, and everyone wants to find a good,

durable, long-term solution.

That is a significant departure from the immigration debates that took place between President

George W. Bushs second term and the 2013 Gang of Eight bill.

And it is partly because Trump ran for president challenging the bipartisan immigration policy

consensus of that time period, with an inner circle that includes other high-profile dissenters:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, domestic policy adviser Stephen Miller, and former White House

chief strategist Steve Bannon.

In the Trump era, immigration hawks are willing to make a deal so long as they can take a

page out of the presidents Art of the Deal.

If were going to give legal status to these illegal immigrants in their 20s and

their 30s, we have to recognize there are going to be negative side effects, Cotton

said in his Senate speech.

First, youre going to encourage parents from around the world who live in poverty

and oppression and war to illegally immigrate to our country with small children.

What could be more dangerous and even immoral than that?

And second, youre going to create a whole new category of Americans who could get legal

status for their extended family to include the very parents who brought them here in

violation of our laws.

Cotton and Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., have argued that any bill that offers relief to

those protected by DACA must also address these negative side effects. Trump has

endorsed their efforts.

The president frequently talks about ending chain migration a phrase for immigrants

sponsoring future immigrants based on family ties in his speeches.

He mentioned it as he outlined his national security strategy.

Trump brought it up in remarks at his Cabinet meeting last week.

And the subject came up in his speech to FBI academy graduates earlier this month.

But the political and racial polarization of the Trump era has made compromise on immigration

even more difficult.

And just as some Republicans have moved right on the issue, many Democrats have moved left.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., faced pressure to link DACA and the short-term

spending bill before Congress went home for Christmas.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was criticized from the Left when he panned open borders

during his progressive campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

It was these political conditions that led Obama to create DACA in the first place.

He had previously tried to build credibility for a comprehensive immigration reform push,

including large-scale legalization opportunities for the undocumented, by touting his administrations

record on deportations and enforcement.

And he repeatedly denied he had the power to protect many illegal immigrants through

executive authority alone without Congress changing the law.

Obamas deporter in chief reputation became untenable.

Republicans also face pressure on the Right, where Trumps talk of physical barriers

may resonate more than technical details about chain migration and the most immigration-centric

portion of the base may not be eager for compromise of any kind.

Nevertheless, both parties face a hard deadline on DACA during an election year and Republican

congressional leaders, who are generally less restrictionist than Trump, have said they

are committed to producing a bill the president is willing to sign.

'Russia SOLD nuclear weapons technology to North Korea,' secret documents show - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 4:40.

'Russia SOLD nuclear weapons technology to North Korea,' secret documents show

RUSSIA is responsible for North Korea's nuclear weapons, newly released documents

have claimed.

Documents from the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau reveal that following the collapse of the

Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Pyongyang bought a large amount of missile technology

from Russian scientists, including plans on how to build nuclear weapons.

Kim Jong-un's rogue regime has tested a number of ballistic missiles in recent months

and has claimed to now have the ability to strike US mainland with a nuclear bomb.

US analysts believe the technology obtained from the USSR in the 1990s is directly responsible

for the corrupt nation's advanced nuclear programme.

David Wright, a missiles expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, said: "North Korea

was just recently able to acquire machine tools that were state-of-the-art in the 1990s,

meaning they are still damn good machine tools."

He added: "Once you have the plans, and are able to get your hands on the materials

and the right kinds of tools, you have a real leg up."

Prior to the release of the new documents, which appear to confirm the link between the

USSR and North Korea, it was already believed the countries may have been previously working

together.

Missiles tested by Pyongyang are said to have similarities with those used by the Soviet

Union.

Joshua Pollack, an analyst at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies confirmed

that Kim Jong-un's Pukguksong-1 missile is very similar to a previous USSR missile.

He said US experts believe the hermit state's new missiles are "generally regarded as

derived from the designs of the Makeyev Bureau's R-27".

North Korea is known to have relied on Russian parts for missiles designed and built in the

1980s, however, the information released by that Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau is the first

evidence the hermit state could still be relying on technology they inherited from the USSR.

In late 1992 more than 60 Russian missile scientists and family members from the Makeyev

facility were arrested at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport as they prepared to

travel to Pyongyang to work as consultants.

It is feared that North Korea could have up to 60 nuclear weapons which they may launch

against the South, Japan or the US if a full war broke out.

Tensions between the country's dictator and Donald Trump have been rising over the

last few months as the pair took part in a war of words.

Questions regarding Russia's relationship with North Korea have been raised by the US

over the past year after Vladimir Putin blamed the US for Pyongyang's continued missile

tests.

Earlier this month Russian lawmakers warned Trump that Kim Jong-un will not back down

from building its nuclear arsenal and any attempts to force him to would be like "playing

with fire".

Svetlana Maximova said: "They said they won't disarm, there cannot even be any talk

of that."

Another member of the delegation said North Korea wants to "live normally" but would

not flinch from all-out war.

Kazbek Taisayev said: "They do not want war, they want to live normally.

"But if there is a threat from the United States, then they are morally ready for that

war."

The warnings came after Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said a US threat to

destroy North Korea in the event of a war was "a bloodthirsty tirade" and a "big

mistake".

In a bid to reduce tensions between the two enemy states, senior members of Trump's

administration are reported to have said the US will be "more quiet" in future when

discussing its military exercises in Asia.

The decision from the US follows fears that another North Korea missile test could be

about to take place.

Paul's Revelations Made Him a Better Man; Muhammad's Made Him Worse (PvM 16) - Duration: 5:59.

Someone who's chosen by God for some important task may go through difficult times.

He may become depressed if people don't listen to him.

He may become arrogant.

He may even rebel against God.

But it would be odd for a person to receive revelations from God that have a corrupting

influence on him—revelations that make him a worse person.

How is this relevant to our evaluation of Paul and Muhammad?

Let's find out.

Paul and Muhammad went through some profound changes during their lifetimes.

But they eventually settled into their final views on various topics.

We can get to the heart of their culminating ethical positions by asking each of them a simple question.

As far as ethics is concerned, what's the greatest thing in the world?

We have Paul's answer in 1 Corinthians 13, where he writes:

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding

gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,

and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love,

I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues,

they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.

When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.

Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love.

But the greatest of these is love."

According to Paul, what's the greatest thing you can do?

Love.

Now for Muhammad's answer to the question, "What's the greatest thing in the world?"

Sahih al-Bukhari 2795:

The Prophet said, "Nobody who dies and finds good from Allah (in the Hereafter) would wish

to come back to this world, even if he were given the whole world and whatever is in it,

except the martyr who, on seeing the superiority of martyrdom, would like to come back to the

world and get killed again (in Allah's cause)."

The only thing that would be worth coming back to this world for, after seeing Paradise,

is getting killed while waging jihad.

Sahih al-Bukhari 2796:

The Prophet said, "A single endeavor (of fighting) in Allah's cause in the afternoon

or in the forenoon is better than all the world and whatever is in it."

A single attack by a jihadi is better than the entire world and everything in it.

And we wonder why Muslim mothers send their kids off to join terrorist groups.

They're just doing what's best for their children, according to Muhammad.

Sahih al-Bukhari 2797:

[Muhammad said]: "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is!

I would love to be martyred in Allah's Cause and then come back to life and then get martyred,

and then come back to life again and then get martyred and then come back to life again

and then get martyred."

According to Muhammad, what's the greatest thing you can do?

Die while slaughtering unbelievers in the name of Allah.

In John 10, verse 10, Jesus says: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

If the forces of evil come to steal and kill and destroy, and the pinnacle of Muhammad's

hierarchy of good deeds is getting killed while slaughtering people, but Jesus came

so that people would have life to the full, and the pinnacle of Paul's hierarchy of

good deeds is loving people, whose ethical system would Jesus affirm, Paul's or Muhammad's?

Whose ethical system would Jesus condemn?

If you Muslims know that Jesus would condemn Muhammad, why do you keep telling us

that you respect Jesus?

Hi everyone.

Thanks for watching.

know that it's part of a series comparing Paul and Muhammad.

If you're already in the playlist, you're about to see that, while Paul won converts

through peaceful preaching, Muhammad won converts primarily through bribes and threats.

No Work / Life balance? Here's a different view to consider - Duration: 8:14.

So tired today.

You know apples...

if you eat an apple in the morning,

it is supposed to be the equivalent of drinking a coffee.

Yeah, I actually wonder

if I had three apples,

would that be the equivalent to drinking a red bull.

Hi... I'm Andrew Walsh and this is Toolbox TV.

The only place to be to supercharge

your soft skills and create…

a career that you love….

Now, it's hard to work in any industry

without hearing the words

work/life balance.

It's been a term that I heard since starting my career

and is so over used,

I think it has to be the number 1 career development cliché!

The concept has got so much media popularity

it seems to have been blindly accepted as truth.

But here's the thing,

in many situations, its seriously flawed!

Let me explain why,

by telling you about the first time I heard about work/life balance.

I'd started my career working for a global accounting firm

and was in one of their regular training sessions.

And this particular session…

you guessed it…

was on work/life balance.

The presenter went through the concept

and the importance of achieving this balance

for happiness and well-being.

I can tell you that I went out of that session

with less happiness and well-being

than when I went in!

All I could think about was how am I supposed to do that?!

I was working at least 60 hours a week

and often more...

trying to study,

travelling a lot because I lived far from work

and there was no time left to find any kind of balance.

But the truth was I was fine.

I was doing what I was supposed to do for that time in my life.

Placing my energy and time into work and studying hard.

However, being young,

I thought everything I was told was 100% right

and I must be missing something.

I couldn't have been happy because I didn't have this balance.

Feeling the pressure to achieve balance is common for most building a career.

You maybe even going through that right now!

Well, I am here to tell you

if you feel like that, it's not your fault.

You see, the concept of work/life balance assumes that everyone is the same.

Meaning, we all find happiness and well-being

through spending relatively equal amounts of time in each area of life.

But think of anyone you know

that has achieved something significant in their career.

Did they have this balance across their life while pursuing their goal?

The truth is,

most worthwhile goals require,

at a minimum,

a significant block of time for focusing on achieving that goal.

The consequence is less time spent on other areas of life.

But this does not mean a decrease in happiness and well-being.

If you love what you do and find it fulfilling,

then you want to maximise the time spent doing it.

When you hit this sweet spot you have found the right mix

rather than balance in your life.

I can tell you from personal experience

that my life is not balanced now…

Every day I have to make choices around

what I will do with my time and energy…

what I will spend it on and who I will spend it with…

and I can't do everything…

I mean that's just life.

However, I do look to spend as much time

doing fulfilling work as possible.

And that really makes me happy.

So don't try to do it all.

Attempting to do so would be like

trying to balance 20 people on a giant see saw!

Disastrous!

Instead, shoot for spending as much time

in your own sweet spot!

And doing the fulfilling work you were born to do.

Think of it this way:

Your fulfillment is not dependent on spending equal time in each area of your life

but how much time you can spend doing fulfilling things.

And now the second point,

and something to keep in mind ….

your priorities and focus will change over time as you change.

So right now,

if you feel that you want to spend more time working

because you have career goals you want to achieve,

then that's ok.

Or perhaps it's the opposite.

You're working, but your career is in a hold pattern

because you want to spend more time with family.

And that's ok too.

These choices will change as you do.

Now, whatever you choose,

please don't get me wrong and think I'm saying

you should completely neglect things like your health in favour of some goal.

Your health is important;

without it, you won't be achieving much of anything.

However, you may make a conscious choice

to do the minimum healthy things you need

in order for you to place

the majority of your focus on something else.

And this may be the same for other areas of your life too.

The point is, there's no reason to feel bad.

Now, I know a lot of you out there will be saying

But Andrew, my career and life sucks.

I'm stuck and there's no damn fulfillment to be seen!

I think most of us can relate to this feeling

at one time or another in life…

I know I can.

Remember, most of us aren't lucky enough to start from a place

where we have the opportunity to spend all day doing fulfilling work.

Your current position may not allow you to hit your sweet spot.

And it may not be clear

how to organise your career and life to get there.

This is where playing the long game kicks in!

And the word that comes to mind is "Relentless".

You need to have relentless faith

that if you keep focusing

on where you want to be and what fulfils you,

your mind will then seek it out.

When this happens,

you give yourself permission to act intentionally

and make plans to not only create a career that you love

but a life you love too!

So seek out your own sweet spot and be relentless.

So, I'd love to hear from you!

What things in your life compete for your time and attention?

And how do you decide

how much time to spend building your career?

Put the freeze on career fear - Duration: 7:22.

Hi. I'm Andrew Walsh and this is Toolbox TV.

The only place to be to supercharge your soft skills

and create… a career that you love….

Nomophobia.

The fear of being out of mobile phone contact.

This is just one of a range of modern fears

that's recently appeared in people's lives

as a result of the increasing speed of technological change

and the change in the way people communicate.

What fears do you have?

Have you ever tried to ignore any of them and pretend they weren't there?

Or can you remember a time when you were disappointed

because you let fear stop you from doing something you really wanted?

Today I want to spend a little time talking about clearing

fear roadblocks to your career success by putting the freeze on fear.

Now, the Oxford Dictionary defines fear as

"an unpleasant emotion caused by

the threat of danger, pain or harm

or the likelihood of something unwelcome happening."

In society, we rarely talk about the topic of fear

and in business it's often ignored.

When it is discussed, it can be viewed as a nuisance or unnecessary part of our lives…

However, it really depends on the type of fear you are experiencing.

Did you know there are healthy and unhealthy fears?

Healthy fears originate from your genetic makeup

to deal with immediate dangers to you physically

like being attacked by lions, tigers and bears.

Yes… but unhealthy fears tend to relate to things that don't pose a real threat

and are usually more imaginary

an illusion in your mind that feels real

but doesn't actually exist as a real threat or danger.

Now, I want to share this great acronym with you,

that remind me of what unhealthy fear is:

False

Evidence

Appearing

Real

At the root of this False Evidence Appearing Real acronym,

is thinking we are not good enough.

So for example, the fear of being fired from your job

if you are feeling insecure.

Now, the basic function of fear is to serve as a protection mechanism,

it warns you of impending danger and harm.

This then engages your fight or flight instinct

as a little voice in your head says

"Be Careful!

Be alert!

Danger!"

The problem with unhealthy fear is it doesn't go away

and can compound in your daily life.

This can have serious consequences

because it increases stress levels and causes changes to you physically

like spikes in adrenaline that lead to unclear thinking and sudden fatigue.

Being in this state constantly really takes you

out of peak performance mode

and can have a huge effect on your day to day and your ultimate career success.

Whilst that's an unpleasant thought,

when dealing with unhealthy fears there is an alternative to living with them.

And that's "Dissolve them!"

Since most unhealthy fears come from us thinking we are not good enough.

The first step is to identify if your fear is imagined.

You can do this by asking yourself four questions:

Question 1

Am I in immediate danger?

Real danger tends to come suddenly and vanishes soon after.

Contrary to imagined fear

which feels like danger but never goes away.

Question2

What evidence is there that this fear is real?

If there is no external proof,

the situation may be exaggerated by your own perceptions.

Question 3

Do you feel paralysed?

Imagined fear tends to paralyse you while real fear forces you to take action.

And lastly, question 4

Is the fear making you feel ashamed or less of yourself?

If the answer is yes… then it is definitely an unhealthy fear.

When you know the fear is imaginary

it's important to acknowledge how you feel.

But also acknowledge the feeling comes from a situation that's not real…

Then you can move onto the last part to putting a freeze on fear,

which is to simply say

"I'll Handle it…."

Remember, most imagined fears stem from feeling

you are not good enough,

which often translates into the simple fear

that you can't handle whatever life might bring you.

So whatever it is, commit to finding a way to do it.

You've been given a new task and you've never done it before.

Tell yourself "I'll handle it"

You need to write a report on a tight deadline

Tell yourself "I'll handle it"

It's your first presentation standing in front of your team

Tell yourself "I'll handle it"

Be mindful, having fear doesn't mean

you have to be afraid….

Take your "I'll handle it" attitude

and take action despite your fear.

Soon you will have that fear licked,

more confidence and a career boost

to reward you for your courage.

Now this brings me to today's tweetable.

"Courage is not the absence of fear

but the persistence to move forward despite it."

And now, I'd love to hear from you!

What fears do you have?

And if you could overcome them

how would your life be different?

How to View Your Company Page Followers on LinkedIn VIDEO - Duration: 2:15.

hi there this is Brenda Meller with today's LinkedIn tip if you are the

admin of a company page on LinkedIn you're probably curious about who's

following your company page now LinkedIn used to offer this up on

your company page but a while back they removed that feature well I have figured

out a workaround that I like to share with you so what you do is you go to

your LinkedIn home page and you mouse over on your me icon and click on the

company page so I'm going to go to my company page which is Meller Marketing

and then you see here up in the address bar at the top that LinkedIn has a

pre-populated as LinkedIn comm slash company slash the company number admin

and updates now what you do is you're gonna remove admin and updates and

you're going to type in the word followers in here and I'm gonna go ahead

and do that now and you're gonna see this little workaround in here I'm gonna

go ahead and delete out admin and updates and I'm gonna add the word

followers in here now when I add the word followers you see that it does

gonna bring me back to the page where i can see the 61 followers that I have on

my page now if I scroll down I can actually go through and toggle through

each of these pages and see each of those different individuals who are

actually following my page on LinkedIn I have not figured out a way of looking at

the analytics to see who the new followers are so if I'm gaining

additional followers I have to kind of watch that day by day it doesn't appear

to be adding them to the beginning and an end and I can't quite figure that

part out but I am watching this closely and what I do is I've been grabbing some

screen captures of each of these pages so now I can look through and do a

little bit of analysis since I only have 61 followers it's pretty easy to do but

this is a great technique for those of you who are managing a company page you

might find business development opportunities in here if you're hiring

for employees you might find potential future employees that are in your
