Welcome to this edition of prophecy in the news I'm
your host Kevin Clarkson thank you for joining us
I'm going to be working solo today we're
continuing a series I began and rather than
straight through week by week we are showing it
intermittently and interspersed throughout
some other programming with interviews with guess
the topic I'm dealing with is mystery in the New
Testament calling it everybody loves a mystery
and of course we all love a mystery in the Bible in
the Word of God in the New Testament a mystery is not
a who done it for we know who done it God done it
God's behind these mysteries what he's doing
is revealing to us what was there all the time but
you wouldn't have seen until it came to pass and
you would have realized with greater clarity after
the coming of Christ in every case of the
mysteries that we're looking at and there are
nine or ten of them we noticed that you could
have read Genesis to Malachi been a devout
observant Jew in the Old Covenant and you would not
have realized that all the full import of what is
called a mystery and that Jesus first roll this out
when he talked in Matthew thirteen about and to you
it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom
of heaven but on to them it is not given it's a
special privilege it's almost what you'd call
insider information given to the people of God given
to those at the spirit discloses to understand
and reveal the import of these mysteries these
mysteries range from the literal incarnation of
Christ to the second return of Jesus but every
one of them finds its ultimate climax with the
second coming of our Lord We've already looked to
the mysteries and just remind you what they were
we talked about and I'm given them.
Some kind of creative titles if I may because
everybody does love a mystery we talked about
blindness in part is happened to Israel and we
call this the case of the blind guide and the idea
there is that Israel has been our guide through the
stream of scriptural Revelation all the way to
the coming of Christ and Jesus of course was an
Israelite a Jew and he brought the full
revelation and he is the truth in the Revelation
himself but the blind guy the funny thing was the
people who got us there.
They didn't get it.
And Paul lets a sin on the ministry and Romans eleven
when he says that they were actually blinded in
parts in till the time is right for the fullness of
Israel to come in
and so all Israel should be saved
and I'm not going to rehash all that we've
already done a series program on they have but
then we we looked at what I called Vanished without
a trace.
And this is first Corinthians fifteen behold
I show you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we
shall all be changed this is speaking to the people
of God and only to the people of God at this
moment.
They will not all sleep or die but they will all be
transformed so you would have read the Old
Testament and you would have understood very dimly
that there was going to be a resurrection there
something more than a shadow we after life in
show you would have understood job and Daniel
and Psalms of David to indicate there was going
to literally be a bodily resurrection but you would
have grasped very much about it and you would
have even thought maybe to have asked what's going to
happen to that last living generation when it all
sums up will they all just fall over dead and then be
raised with everyone else Paul says No I'm telling
you a new mystery the Lord revealed it
and that mystery is that we won't all sleep but
we'll all be changed every Christian all those who
have died through the ages their spirits with the
Lord but on that great getting up morning the
resurrection their body will be raised you.
United with their spirit and in a just a twinkling
of an eye we who are alive will be caught up and
transformed we call it the rapture but the Rapture is
actually a subset of the Resurrection it really is
it's not it's own independent
and we think the next thing on the calendar of
God The main prophetic event we think is the
Rapture would more properly even call it the
resurrection but for reasons that affect us all
who are alive understand why we call it the Rapture
now the day we come to a third mystery the next two
mysteries do involve the church and this one really
is the mystery of the church and next time and
the mysteries will be looking at the mystery of
the church as the bride
and what our ultimate destiny is throughout
eternity future what a powerful thing that will
be but today just the whole concept of the
church now there's a couple of directions to go
on this that will get us a.
little off balance if we don't stay true to the
Word of God OK One of them is to consider the church
as God's Plan B.
Well God never does need a Plan B.
Because Plan A Never fails with God The church was
not plan B.
In the way some people have tried to explain it
you get the idea that God gave the job to the Jewish
nation they flubbed it up Christ came and mocked up
the mass and said OK I'm going to start with the
church
but that's not really the message of the scriptures
at all and they didn't have the eyes to see it at
the time but it is there imbedded in the Old
Testament you could read Genesis to Molokai in the
Old Covenant living under the old covenant and not
see it but by the time we get to the mystery of the
bride in this next message of the series we're going
to go back and look at three of the weddings in
the book of Genesis
and we're going to see how all three of those
weddings in Genesis actually typify the
destiny of the church.
But the whole thing being brought up to us is here
in efficiency three and I want to.
At a notice as we read these verses in just a
moment I want you to listen because this is by
far and away I think the very best explanation of
the whole New Testament concept of what a mystery
is so if we may will turn to a fish and story if you
have a Bible follow along the words will be here for
you on the screen if Asians chapter three I'll
begin in verse one scripture say as for this
cause I have Paul the prisoner of Jesus Christ
for you gentiles I gotta stop right there and give
you just a little past or a word of encouragement no
matter what you're in today or where you're at
or what's going on in your life Paul didn't say you
know I'm the prisoner of Rome
or I'm the prisoner of Caesar are I'm a victim he
said I'm the prisoner of Jesus Christ what he chose
to realize by faith was that what was happening in
his life and you can say this.
If you're the Lord's child is by the design of God
And so Paul said I'm really here not because
Caesar put me here not because a court system but
me here I really know that Jesus Christ has allowed
and brought me to this place and I'm going to
make the most of it boy that's the attitude of
faith we all need to realize and it's an aside
but think with me for a moment if God had not put
Paul in that prison we wouldn't have this
glorious book of aphasia.
We wouldn't have Philip ians.
We wouldn't have kolache and.
We wouldn't have first and second Timothy and Titus
and Philemon.
Possibly Hebrews.
So here we are seeing that the asides of our life are
moments that God can really use in a great way
God has a far bigger plan in mind than just you and
I in our personal plans and comfort let's remember
that So Paul says you know I'm really here and I am a
prisoner.
But it's I'm a prisoner of Jesus not the Roman Empire
and it is for you Gentiles and off that springboard
of the word you Gentiles he's going to bring forth
this whole idea of the mystery of the church
verse to Evie have heard of the dispensation of the
grace of God which is given me to you word.
How that by revelation he God made known to me the
mystery as I wrote before in few words whereby when
you read you may understand my knowledge in
the mystery of Christ which in other ages was
not made known
and of the sons of men.
As it is now revealed and to His holy apostles and
prophets by the Spirit excuse me.
That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs.
And of the same body and partakers of his promise
in Christ.
By the gospel.
And let's just capture that in his few words as
possible so we can really sink our teeth into it.
Here's the definition of a mystery in the New
Testament verse five something in other ages
that was not made known into the sons of Mian.
As it is now revealed unto His holy apostles and
prophets by the Spirit so even in the Old Testament
ages of God giving revelation Zs mysteries
weren't known but now since the coming of Christ
since the descent of the Spirit upon the body of
Christ revealed unto His holy apostles and prophets
that the essence of what these biblical mysteries
are about
and the specific mystery that we are looking at
today he calls the mystery of Christ and it relates
to the church here we go over six that the Gentiles
should be fellow heirs and have the same body
and partakers of the promise in Christ.
By the Gospel Now that's an absolute mouth.
Full and we need to just get our get our hearts and
our mind around it for a minute first of all into
the meaning of the truth and second what that truth
is to mean for our lives the.
Unit of always lived in this I mean ever since I
was born the church was here on the earth right I
mean the Old Testament was already the Old Testament
the New Testament was the New Testament we weren't
looking for anything else.
But do you realize that when Paul wrote this to
the first generation of Christianity this was an
absolute mind blowing revelation and sometimes
we fail to appreciate that because we have always
lived with it I'm afraid that when the church are
guilty of the same thing we sometimes accuse young
people in our society of being and that's ignorant
of our own history you know we fact that a lot of
young Americans don't appreciate the founding of
this nation and the liberties that have been
won but we treat our existence in the body of
Christ the same way we fail to appreciate and
respect all the centuries of suffering that the
Jewish people went through to preserve the Scriptures
and bring them to us and then waiting and praying
and longing for Messiah to come
and then we just think he summarily scraped them
aside and put the church here but what's
mindblowing about verse six is as wonderful as it
is really as they are the chosen people.
As wonderful as that he is and even them see in their
reading even if they would believe that Jesus was
their messiah they would have still had this old
testament idea not from the Old Testament
but certainly hail to by the ones who taught them
they would have seen Israel and themselves as
superior superior to all the other nations in
Gentiles and that we would sort of be brought along
with them that's great we can follow along for the
ride
but that's not what verse six is saying no we
Gentiles we non Jews now in the church we've
actually been elevated to be fellow where.
Years
and if you go back into chapter two he even says
that we are fellow citizens if you were to
look at me in verse eleven
of chapter two where four remember that you being in
time past Gentiles in the flesh who were called
uncircumcision by that which is called the
circumcision in the flesh made by hands at that time
you were without Christ aliens from the
commonwealth of Israel strangers from the
covenants of promise having no hope and without
God in the world but now in Christ Jesus you who
sometimes were far off are made.
By the blood of Christ I want you to stay with that
thought the cross and chapter two.
Blowers that the really it's at the cross that God
bridges the divide not only between heaven and
earth not only between God and men in their sin.
But he preaches the divide between man to man race to
race humanity to humanity Jew to Gentiles it's at
the cross and the cross becomes the great.
Reconciler it becomes a beautiful instrument of
God bringing everything together
and it says those cross beams meet not literally
in the beam of wood but in the heart of our Savior
who hung there that God brings his holy righteous
self to sinful man and brings us and melts us in
the power of His love and grace and in that same
outpouring is able to take me in who were at enmity
and disagreement with each other and bring them
together that's why I say even in these days of
civil divide in America the only hope for our
nation is a spiritual answer we cannot get
together around social programs around politics
around idiology But if we would all come to Jesus we
could all be brought together that's the only
answer there is and that's why the church.
Is the change agent for the world and we have the
message that is most vital and important and you must
see that well the great mystery the Gentiles now
are not going to be class be citizens of the kingdom
where the Jews were there first.
But they will be fellow Ayers and have the same
body.
Partakers at his promise by the Gospel or an
amazing thing Paul went on in Galatians to elaborate
on this and had basically said in chapter three
there that Christ bore the curse for us
and actually delivered to us in many ways the
blessing of Abraham and that spiritual blessing of
son ship of relationship and friendship with God
but all the other blessings that flow from
that foundational one so we see this great mystery
being unfolding and what is showing us he has some
things about it this is a dispensation of God's
grace it said that earlier in this
passage it said it.
The grace of God verse to the dispensation of the
grace of God It's called the mystery of Christ in
in verse four.
I call it a mystery related to the church but
he calls it the mystery of Christ
and that is because in John chapter one it says
that the Law was given through Moses but grace
and truth.
That came to Jesus Christ.
Verse five mentions that this was revealed by the
Spirit so we see the grace of God First to the
mystery of Christ verse for the revelation of the
Spirit verse five and right there and this
happens many times in the book of visions over and
over and over the Trinity just embedded right there
and you missed it if you're not looking closely
verse for the gentiles and Israel are going to be one
body.
The church now this is not going to do away with a
prophetic plan of God for the nation of Israel let's
realize Paul is talking about us as individuals
coming to sell.
Nation in Christ
and this is what some Christians I think stumble
over they they don't see why so many of us who love
the Lord and love the scripture why we love the
Jewish nation and the Jewish people so much and
they think that you know we're somehow going
against the Gospel not at all the Gospel brought to
fulfillment the individual one on one salvation but
we've been so big about personal relationship in
America you know and in much of western
civilization we it's all about the individual god
has a much bigger plan in this he relates to us not
only as individuals but as nations of the earth
and so many of the prophecies of the Bible
are nationalistic they deal with the nations as
he relates to the nations he has a chose an
instrument that is the leader of the nations and
that's Israel and I defy anybody to look at history
and tell me where Israel hasn't been the leader
they brought forth the monotheistic religion one
god belief in the one God and the moral imperative
out of that the law the commands and they just
devalue a family they did it and have done it better
than than almost anyone I can think of and to this
very day and they were thrown on the ass heap of
history they were destroyed in disbanded and
scattered and yet God has preserved them through the
centuries and now in the last century brought them
back to their ancient homeland given them the
land given in the ancient city of Jerusalem given
them that temple area all things are coming into
place and when these age of the final things begins
Israel is again emerged as a leader in so many ways
and ultimately will be through the millennial
kingdom to God's not done with the nations but that
doesn't do away with the fact that any one of us
not and national Israelite we're not a class B.
Citizen because of the cross and this is this
great mystery we're all here together we're all in
this and in this we've been brought together and
that's what's absolutely so beautiful about.
Debt's let me just let me just tell you.
The very name means prince of God It comes from
Jacob's episode in Genesis thirty two where he
wrestled with an angel all night now I believe this
was the age of the Lord because when the angel
departed Jacob name the place penile which means
the face of God
and he realized he had seen the face of God
Although no man can look at God and live he saw I
believe pre-incarnate appearance of our Lord
Jesus Christ
and that was a fixed fight from the beginning because
since Lord could have won it but he chose to wrestle
all night with Jacob Jacob was in dire straits he
really was he was in a very backed into a corner
place and he was almost ready to run for his life
but he had to think about his two wives and all of
his children.
And so he was at least cowardly in some ways but
not so much just to run at that moment but he got all
alone in it when God got a hold of him sometimes got
lonely get hold of you when you're all alone.
And one of the reason some people don't want to be
alone they always got to have music or noise in the
background they always want to be around a crowd
or out somewhere they're just not comfortable with
themselves and the thought that God might break in.
God got Jacob alone he wrestled with a moment and
as the sun begin to.
Faintly begin to kind of light in the sky the match
came to an end.
And Jacob said what's your name he held on.
And he said Why do you ask my name and he said I
won't let you go until you bless me.
And at that point the angel touched his hip the
strongest part of his body.
And caused the lamp.
And then the angel left.
That's when Jacob realized who he's really dealing
with and it's kind of a not only a real physical
fight but it's kind of an image of what goes on with
a spiritually God has to get us to a point of
brokenness God has to bring us down low that he
might raise us up.
If that hasn't happened in your life.
It needs to and I'm sorry it has to be that way but
we're so stubborn and so full of ourselves that God
really has to break a sometimes to get the real.
Good stuff right into our lives I chuckle as I think
about it Jacob got up that morning and.
Headed back across the valley to were his family
was waiting he's he's dragging that leg now that
he can't use because the hips broken It'll me end
but he'll always walk with a limp but he's dragging
that leg behind him and his clothes are all you
know the shoveled and maybe ripped and his
hair's all wild look in these had a totally
sleepless night he comes over the brow they are his
children that's why I've seen him they were up
daddy daddy and his wives go what happened to you
and I can just see him smile and he said God
blessed me.
It didn't change his life he was no longer Jacob the
supplants or Jacob the deceiver.
He was Israel.
The Prince of God.
That can be the story of all of us if we really
want the blessing of Abraham.
Lincoln also and he is the story of the nation.
The nation would like the nation of Israel they
would like to I'm sure be able to rule and you know
they do in many ways with their with their intellect
and their just obvious blessings of leadership.
But those that God would use the first breaks does
a great thing so let's remember that and now
let's relate this mystery.
To our daily lives for just a few moments OK.
See we don't live in the first century church
anymore we just have everywhere we look around
we go to church some of your in messianic
congregations thank God for you some of you are in
just regular churches thank God for you
but if we don't you know mingle and mix with each
other we forget about the other and we think of what
I mean my way the truth of the matter is God wants to
bring us all together at the cross and for you and
I here's what this means in our everyday life.
We need to accept people that are different than we
are.
Now we don't do that for ourselves we don't even
really do it for their sake although secondarily
ultimately we do it for the Lord's sake you talk
about different talk about the holy Son of God come
into this planet are you kidding me he who never
sinned walking on this soil with such evil
reprobate as us.
Wow what did we have in common.
But he came and he became known as the friend of
sinners.
Birds of a feather flock together and that needs to
be broken up because he loves us all every kind of
bird every Can a speck old hand every ostrich with
its head in the sand he loves us all and we are to
show that same love to everyone maybe a story
will tell it quicker and better than I can explain
it an old deacon this was this was a church on the
West Coast and a young surfer kind of the hippie
culture came into church he was really homeless and
poor didn't even have shoes but he really felt a
pull on his heart and decided to go to a house
of worship on a Sunday morning this was a coastal
church near the near the beach and so he just
simply walked in on a Sunday morning and they
were all there in their suits and fancy cars in
the lot organs playing.
And this kid comes in.
With trousers that are kind of shaggy lookin and
you know he hadn't had a haircut in a long time and
oh look in shirt no shoes went to a restaurant might
say no shoes no shirt no service Well he's got a
shirt on but no shoes but anyway he just starts down
the aisle and people are watching there not see
anything better by arise on him and he can't find a
seat and keeps going when he gets all the way to the
very front pew and you're still no place to say that
I'm glad about it was church so I just crosses
his legs and sits down on the floor at the front.
Well the song ends you know everybody is seated
and the oldest the king in the church at the backs
going on three priests.
Got a little tie and tie change immaculately
dressed and he starts down the aisle and everybody
knows he's going to the front every step that he
gets closer they're thinking yeah I know.
It's sad but you know that kid should have known how
to come in here this is after all a house of
worship
and so they all are go on this is going to be bad
but it's got to happen.
That old Deacon makes his way.
Stands above the young man the young man looks up at
him he looks down at him and smiles.
And with the greatest of effort the old man.
Crosses his legs and lowers and self.
To sit on the floor beside the young man.
So listen to the son.
Because the ground at the foot of the cross is
wonderfully level.
And with that love of Jesus.
We need to reach out and accept everyone.
Even when they are very different from us.
Another truth for your life and mine we must
pursue all this all the people on earth for Christ
as long as we're here.
You know Paul didn't say and even this innate
mystery now let's go close our Bibles and talk about
what fascinating things we know I stopped and then
read verse seven after Paul said here is the
mystery he went on to say whereof I was made a
minister that word means a servant according to the
gift of the grace of God given under me by the
effectual working of his power
and to me who am less than the least of all saints
that I should preach among the Gentiles the end
searchable riches of Christ
and make all man see what is the fellowship of the
mystery Paul was driven he got up every day driven by
this I'm here to make this mystery known so others
can fellowship in it and folks that's really what
we are about you know here profs in the news we love
all things prophetic
but it's not just a scratch and it's of
curiosity.
It's to compel us to persuade man knowing the
terror of the Lord and that he is coming back and
that there is a judgment to come and a hail to show
and a heaven to gain we preach the gospel the
glorious gospel of Christ.
And for Christ I'm going to live to make that
purpose known that's what Paul said that's what you
and I must do what a glorious mystery there is
no class B.
In the kingdom of God We've all been lowered to
the deaths than by the touch of the prince of the
Son of God we have been made children of God It's
our prayer that if you don't know Christ.
That you put your faith and trust in Him because
He gave us life on an old bloody cross it was buried
in a cold day tomb
and rose from the dead so you could have life
everlasting it's also our prayer today that if you
need to be broken by God that you'll submit to that
that you might really win by losing God bless you
and let's keep looking.
